If you were told the baby was really large

When did you deliver and how big was he/she in reality? Especially if told over large AC?

I’m in this boat now and being induced Monday (40weeks). Last baby I was told would be tiny and she was over 9lbs so this time being told she is big I can’t really dispute an induction😂 last baby was delivered at 40 weeks 6 days spontaneous Labour.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 01/12/2023 20:32

I was induced at 39 weeks because my son was measuring big and they thought if they left him in much longer he’d get too large for me to deliver vaginally. He was born 7 lbs 4 and was actually slightly below average. Being induced was not nice so it’s quite annoying that it happened for no reason. But my son is healthy and that’s all that matters.

Vvvvvvvvvvvvvv · 01/12/2023 20:36

Me - had NHS and private scans, a c-section on due date because the baby was meant to be really, really big ( I am petite but husband born over 4kg and very tall). My son was born at just over 3kg (although he is tall which I understand affected the measurements). I massively regret the route I've taken.

BurningBenches · 01/12/2023 20:40

I was told my 4th was already 9lb at 37wks, so on target for over 10lb at 40wks and over 11lb at 42. I was offered an induction on my due date.
I accepted because I always went 2wks over and then was induced anyway.
He was only 9lb5 at 40wks.
My 5th was allegedly average at her scan and was born 9lb at 41wks.
My 3rd was 9lb10 and the easiest of all 5.

Changingforever23 · 01/12/2023 20:42

Got induced early with my second at just over 39 weeks as he was measuring large. Turned out only 8lbs 6oz

Newnamesameoldlurker · 01/12/2023 20:42

39 weeks (c section) and 10lbs

DandelionPockets · 01/12/2023 20:42

DS was supposedly large, 95th percentile for everything. Came out 39+4 (induction for cholestasis) at 7lbs 13oz. He grew very quickly once out though!

ny20005 · 01/12/2023 20:44

I knew I was having a big baby but was dismissed by midwife. Induced at 41 weeks & first midwife who examined me, said baby was big. 10lb 4 ! Planned cs for next one & measured 10cm bigger than dates. Cs at 37 weeks & baby was 9lb 3. Was told they'd have been over 11lb if I went to term Confused

Farcry66 · 01/12/2023 20:49

My girl was born yesterday, I'd had lots of growth scans because I'd had BIG babies before. She was tracking on 50%, then went up a bit, final predicted birth weight of 9 1/2lbs. When she weighed in yesterday she was 10lbs 11oz!

My friend was told she was having an 11lb baby and scared her into an induction, baby was born 3 days later at 7lbs.

Goneback2school · 01/12/2023 20:51

I opted for c section anyway because Dr said ds's head size was 99th percentile. But I was scanned at 38 weeks due to pains and they brought forward the section date because they estimated his weight at 9lb 11oz. He was 8lb 11oz when born the next day. Did have a very big head though!

Azandme · 01/12/2023 20:52

I had GD and was induced at 39 weeks because my scan showed she was big - they estimated 10lbs...

She was 6lbs 7.5oz - and long. She was so scrawny 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣.

princesspeachx · 01/12/2023 20:55

A bit different, was told mine would be no more than 2lbs. Was left to go 15 days overdue (12 years ago this was quite rare) he was nothing like the growth scans predicted and was 6lbs. I gained 11lbs in total and they were worried about my size so let him cook as long as possible. I have friends who had much smaller babies but scans didnt indicate this for them.

BiscuitLover3678 · 01/12/2023 21:09

This is crazy - such a range of sizes! How can we decide what to do? 😭

This is what I can’t understand! How it can be so wrong.

My Midwife went to a home Birth of a baby who was over 100th centile on the chart. They had no idea. All was fine no issues.

My Best friend 5'1 had 4 babies at home all 9lbs-10.5lbs. She achieved this with being upright and moving a lot. Gravity and Hypnobirthing.

It is upto you what you want to do. Just look at the pros and cons and the realities. If you have been diagnosed with a small pelvis then maybe not worth the risks. Most women have normal sized pelvis and have fully movable ligaments to accommodate.

PeeBeee · 01/12/2023 21:20

Induced at 39 weeks for ‘big baby’ (no gd or health concerns for me or baby) and had her at 39+2, emcs as failure to progress, she was 8lb 5oz

MixedCouple · 01/12/2023 21:20

They told me my DS was small told them to Buzz off. (Radiographer and with BIL who is an OBGYN) DS arrived at 39w 5D at 6lbs perfectly normal and went into labour naturally.
I trust my gut as I have a strong intuition and medical knowledge. They don't know for certain. Estimates at best.

Zapx · 01/12/2023 21:24

Was told 10lbs at 41 weeks, born 9,9 at 41+6

Fleur405 · 01/12/2023 21:25

First baby induced at 39 weeks as estimated to be big (for me, I’m very small) and as a result of growth scans they discovered I had undiagnosed gestational diabetes. He was 7lb 2. So pretty average.

Second baby induced at 39 weeks because they were concerned she was small. Had 11 growth scans. All consistently said she would be sub 6.5lb at term. She was 8lb 6. So larger than average.

Honestly it is an educated guess. But still a guess as far as I can tell!

mondaytosunday · 01/12/2023 21:26

37 weeks and 10lbs 4oz. Then 38 weeks and 9lbs 14 oz. Sections for both.

Ripleysgameface · 01/12/2023 21:26

Induced at 36+5 after two whoppers. I won't say exactly as outing but the sort of weights that make the newspaper, two sumos.

He was a teeny tiny (for me) 8lb 5oz

Kirstylvsya · 01/12/2023 21:27

Late diagnosis of GD @ 36 weeks told me he would be over 11lbs. Born 37weeks 10lbs 9oz not far wrong!

boomboom25 · 01/12/2023 21:29

I was told my DS was measuring big from about 30 weeks - was told there was a chance he could be near 10/11lbs Shock induced a week early and he weighed 9 lbs 3oz

Rowgtfc72 · 01/12/2023 21:31

I had GD. Told me dd would be 10lb at term. Induced at bang on 37 weeks and she was 8lb 6. Doubt she'd have got to target weight.
She was always going to be big, dh is 6ft 6. At 16 dd is 6ft tall with size 9 feet.

ColleenDonaghy · 01/12/2023 21:31

Measured big all along, and we were both big babies so fully expected the baby to be big. Also I'm short.

Scanned at 10lbs and induced at 41 weeks so she didn't grow any more. She was 9lb 7oz, couldn't descend because her head was above the 99th centile and was born by very relaxed EMCS. She was so crammed in they had to use forceps in the section.

Second was also big all along, and transverse. They had to do an extra incision in my uterus to manoeuvre her to deliver, she had to be resuscitated and I lost a lot of blood (we were both fine). She was 9lb 12oz.

There was no way I was getting those babies out without the surgeons!
