Hi all, long time Lurker and first time poster. I’m 37 and just got my first ever positive pregnancy test by IVF, I am 9dp5dt.

I am so excited but of course like most, nervous too of something going wrong.

KG1244 · 13/03/2024 18:24

@Habidy1 ahhh congratulations and welcome! We are all pretty much in our third trimester so if you want to speak to people at a similar stage to you, you might want to find another group but obviously you are more than welcome! Any questions or worries you have, please feel free to share ❤️

ASGIRC · 13/03/2024 18:50

@Habidy1 massive congrats! Like @KG1244 said, were at a different stage here, with due dates coming really fast (mine is being born next week!)
But I know there is at least one thread for October due dates, IVF, and theyll be closer to you, in terms of the experience!

However, anything we can help with, feel free to ask, or share!!! These groups have been invaluable, for sure!

Habidy1 · 13/03/2024 19:08

Thank you guys - appreciate the steer ♥️

Hi all, just want to check this is right….baby bedding! Seems mad but maybe this is right and I just have no idea 😂 so you need fitted sheets for the pram bassinet, crib and cot and waterproof sheets for each as well. Is that right? How many of each are you supposed to buy? This baby will have more bedding than me!

PollywithaP · 15/03/2024 07:19

@KG1244 I never had the fitted and waterproof sheets for the pram I just used muslins instead as I didn’t use the pram for anything else other than a walk a day for a few weeks, then found a sling much easier. Also I used to wrap baby in a blanket too, and I didn’t use the pram carry cot as a bed. Yes to fitted sheets for everything else. So we had 3x fitted sheets for snuz pod (next to me) with 2x little green sheep waterproof matress covers. So it was a sort of wash one use one situation. (We also put large muslins Folded in half under baby’s head to catch any small amounts of sick, we found they tucked in under the matress well and stayed secure.
We have a cot bed so had 4x waterproof matress covers for that, the ones that have strips of elastic over the corners so you just tuck the elastic over each corner of the matress, and 6x fitted sheets. This is because being a cot bed it is still in use by our 4yo and more sheets and waterproof covers are needed for accidents at night when potty training, and when they have sickness bugs. We do have a tumble dryer though, so could wash and dry things quickly if needed. You won’t need to worry about cot sheets for a good few months until baby moves out of next to me, unless you are using the cot from the outset. Hope that makes sense!

thislittlebird · 15/03/2024 08:38

I’m honestly not even sure where to get fitted sheets for my pram carry cot Confused

I’ve got the waterproof and fitted for the main cot, but only fitted for the thing we’re using as a crib. I haven’t looked up if they even sell them that size. We got our waterproof cover and fitted sheet cot set from John Lewis.

TheBirdintheCave · 15/03/2024 08:41

@KG1244 You don't need waterproof sheets. All we have are two fitted sheets for the cot in the bedroom I think? 🤔 I'd have to check the bag of stuff my brother gave us as it's their travel cot we'll be using.

PollywithaP · 15/03/2024 12:02

I suppose the waterproof ones are a choice but I didn’t like the idea of changing the bed after baby had been sick and putting the sheet on a damp matress then baby on that.
The ones we had (have) are very soft and not plasticy to the touch at all.

KG1244 · 15/03/2024 13:14

Thanks all, that’s super helpful @PollywithaP @TheBirdintheCave @thislittlebird xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 15/03/2024 14:27

@PollywithaP Ah! I see. We tucked a folded large muslin around the head end of the mattress and just changed that if our son was sick on it (which was often as he had terrible reflux!)

ASGIRC · 15/03/2024 21:30

I have ZERO fitted sheets for anything!
I do have waterproof next to me sheets (2), the kind with elastic band in the corners, and then I am using regular sheets on top of that, as my mom had tonnes from when I was a baby and buying new ones felt like a waste of money.

I dont have a cot, just a regular low bed, and will be buying waterproofs for that, but its not a priority for now.

For the bassinet, I have disposable pads, but wont be putting in any sheets.

KG1244 · 18/03/2024 22:51

Sorry in advance, I feel like I’m constantly asking for advice on this group!

I had another ultrasound today and baby has already moved to the head down position (good news), less joyful news - based on the ultrasound, he currently weighs 4lbs 13 so predicted to be a large baby. They’ve now referred me for the gestational diabetes test and I’m feeling a bit down in the mouth with it all. It’s probably the hormones but I just feel like this pregnancy has not been as chilled as I imagined it might be and if he is going to be 9lbs plus, the thought of a vaginal birth really scares me. Any advice or thoughts gratefully received. DH is trying to be supportive but he just doesn’t really get it.

thislittlebird · 18/03/2024 22:57

@KG1244 the gestational diabetes test is honestly fine, you might just have a bigger baby and no GD like lots of people do. Just remember you do have options and you can discuss those with a senior midwife if you want to.

How come they’ve scanned you so much lately? I have no idea how anyone will know if my baby is breech or not. I think she’s turned somewhat because the kick location is now higher up instead of low down.

KG1244 · 18/03/2024 23:07

@thislittlebird thank you, I really do hope so. DH is 6 ft 2 and asked MIL today what he weighed at birth - 8lbs 9 so maybe in hindsight I never should have expected an average baby…. In terms of options, im so unsure. I think I will wait until my next scan and see how big he is measuring. I had my recent scan cause I went into the maternity day unit with reduced movement and they scanned me and found him to be breech. I don’t know if the scan today for 32 weeks is usual or not. Each hospital seems to vary so much!

TheBirdintheCave · 18/03/2024 23:33

@KG1244 Don't feel badly about asking for advice, that's why we're here! ❤️

If it helps at all my son was estimated to be around 7.5-8lbs but was in actuality a teeny 6.5lbs at a week over due. Scan estimates aren't overly accurate from what I've heard!

thislittlebird · 19/03/2024 12:16

@KG1244 we’re both short arses so I’m hoping for a small one lol

I was going to go in with reduced movement yesterday but then she woke up. Seems to have a day or two of big activity and then a rest day. Always worry about if I should go.

My feet and ankles are so swollen, ugh. I tried some new vans on today for the second time, wanted to wear them around the house. But they’re so tight compared to the first try on my right foot, stupid swollen fat foot.

OP posts:
KG1244 · 19/03/2024 12:40

@thislittlebird I think I just forgot about how tall DH was! I can definitely join you on the swollen front - rings don’t fit and my ankles are swollen. Why does this happen in pregnancy?!

TheBirdintheCave · 19/03/2024 12:48

@KG1244 It's funny, my husband is 6'5" but he was born around 6lbs like me (a diminutive 5'3"). He does make LONG babies though. This one has a 14th percentile abdomen but 90th percentile legs 😂

thislittlebird · 19/03/2024 12:48

@KG1244 how tall are you? I read it’s because the womb grows and circulation gets more difficult? So swollen bits for us! I can’t walk much either because of my foot pain, so I was trying to find some more comfortable shoes and tried these “comfycush” vans because all I can wear are big, chunky trainers right now. The vans might go with dresses etc, but they’re so tight due to the swelling Confused

I’m also having a problem with one large, crusty nipple. Not loving that, that can do one. I’ve started using Lanisoh or whatever it’s called.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 19/03/2024 12:49

@thislittlebird Ah nuts. I'm sorry you're still struggling with shoes :(

thislittlebird · 19/03/2024 12:49

This baby hasn’t been measured in a long time but it had a big head like my dh when they checked :/

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 19/03/2024 12:52

@TheBirdintheCave it really does suck, I want to be more active but my feet aren’t having it. We’re hoping for a few days away next week but I need some arch support flip flops I guess, not sure my feet with tolerate regular ones. Only to a spa hotel though so might be able to get by.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 19/03/2024 12:57

@thislittlebird Ooh a spa sounds heavenly right now. I hope you have a lovely time!

thislittlebird · 19/03/2024 13:26

@TheBirdintheCave we just need to book something first! Have been busy with all this and now I’m watching the hotel rates for a good deal as they seem to come down a few days ahead. If we go to this place it’ll be a bit of a journey south west so probably tiring but the last chance we’ll get for anything on our own for a while, I suppose.
