How is everyone doing? Had my appointment had John Lewis earlier this week. Highly recommend it. The staff were super helpful and gave me lots of good advice on prams and general tips.

TheBirdintheCave · 09/02/2024 11:52

@KG1244 I'm doing good :D At this point in my son's pregnancy I was in a lot of pain with my hips in bed and with my ribs in general. With this one it's just my left hip and just sometimes so I'm happy with that 😂

I'm busy selling rather than buying at the moment. Sold my son's old travel buggy for £100 yesterday and hoping to get £500 for the pram/car seat system. We need to get that down from the loft, cleaned and photographed this weekend. It takes up SO much room in the loft and I can't wait to have it gone.

I also need to go through all of my son's old clothes and give what we no longer need (due to sizes/seasons being wrong for this one) to charity. That should free up more storage boxes.

I LOVE decluttering. My goal is to move to our forever house in the next three years (mortgage rates dependent) so I want to take as little as possible with us.

KG1244 · 09/02/2024 13:15

@TheBirdintheCave thats good to hear! Are you getting a new pram for baby or do you have a suitable one already? I’ve accepted that 6-9 months down the line I will need to buy a travel buggy as well 😂

TheBirdintheCave · 09/02/2024 13:49

@KG1244 We bought a second hand BabyZen YoYo2 with a newborn and six month pack for £380. Should last the whole couple of years we need it for :) I think all I'm missing is the rain cover and parasol.

KG1244 · 09/02/2024 15:07

@TheBirdintheCave I did look at that in John Lewis. It looks great!

TheBirdintheCave · 09/02/2024 15:32

@KG1244 I wanted one since I first realised our UppaBaby Vista was too big for general usage but it was always too expensive and I talked myself out of it. This is our last baby so I'm having exactly what I want this time round 😅

KG1244 · 09/02/2024 15:55

@TheBirdintheCave do it! And when the time comes and you’re doing with it, I’m sure you can sell it on. People love it! I’ve ended up buying the Bugaboo Fox 3 on their website directly as it’s currently half price so a great deal but think I will definitely need a type of stroller like the yoyo when baby boy is a bit older as the bigger prams are quite heavy. I did look at one of the Uppababy prams in JL - they are so nice!

TheBirdintheCave · 09/02/2024 16:00

@KG1244 It's a gorgeous pram but doesn't fit in the house. Our travel buggy (we had an IckleBubba Globe) slotted so neatly in the cupboard under the stairs.

One unexpected expense is our suitcase set! I hadn't really considered until booking our flights for our holiday in September that we don't actually have enough luggage space for a family of four so they'll need to be upgraded too.

KG1244 · 09/02/2024 16:10

@TheBirdintheCave some of them are huge. Would you recommend the globe?

definitely recommend tk maxx online for suitcases. You can get some great deals.

ASGIRC · 09/02/2024 16:13

@TheBirdintheCave I really like the AIT ones, because then the drying becomes easier! I dont have a dryer in the house, so have to rely on weather to dry, and being able to separate the elements, even if only after washing, to make sure they dry quicker is a godsend!
I was going to buy more, to add to my 20, but have now decided I will wait until she is born, to see how big she is.
Hopefully Ill find some good deals at that time!

@KG1244 All good here! Still having my contractions, but It is what it is... Not much I can do about them, so Im trying not to worry about it!

Have my baby shower on Sunday and gettign really excited about it!

TheBirdintheCave · 09/02/2024 17:51

@KG1244 Yeah it was a good buggy! The travel bag leaves a lot to be desired but I'm sure you could buy something more substantial for it.

Compared to the YoYo, you can see the difference in quality/price (£200 vs £500) BUT the Globe has some features the YoYo doesn't: a footrest, it lies flat plus I found the folding mechanism of the Globe easier.

It's definitely a good budget alternative and I don't regret buying it :)

thislittlebird · 10/02/2024 14:56

@ASGIRC Hope you're feeling ok with the contractions.
I checked today and my GD test is definitely fasting, so I'm glad it's at 8.10am! I'll be ravenous at the end of it.

The cholesterol results were weird, it's still high but's unchanged from July, so clearly genetic high cholesterol doesn't respond to 10kg of extra weight and a lot of cheese and crisps! They're going to check with the maternal medicine consultant for me to

@TheBirdintheCave Thanks, I didn't know there were two kinds, I need to figure out what will be best. Did you try both for your son? I'm wondering if it's worth buying a couple of each to try at home when the baby is here. Interesting about the Globe too, thanks for sharing.

@KG1244 glad you liked the JL appointment! Ours is booked for the 20th, we had to reschedule. Did they show you car seats and prams? I'm keen to try both! Oh, you bought the bugaboo fox, what did you like about it? I like the Nuna Trim Next (I think it's called that) but it seems quite urban and I would like one that copes on grass etc.

We're planning on buying a second hand travel buggy, the babyzen yoyo looks good then I saw it in JL.

Soooo we opened our baby scan sex envelope today...it's a girl! Tbh I kind of thought it would be, after reading that 2/3 40+ men have girls, and seeing no obvious boy parts on the scan, oh and having a boy name (Ivor, a family name) that we were both happy with and not being able to agree on a girl name...so yeah, obviously it's a girl! Can't wait to be on the other side of those teenage years lmao. We'll still keep everything quite neutral though, nursery and clothes wise, just in case it's one of the few cases where they get it wrong!

KG1244 · 10/02/2024 16:32

@thislittlebird ahhh that’s so exciting wow!! Do you feel like it’s more real now?

We booked a 90 minute appointment and they showed us everything. We spent most time looking at prams and car seats. I’m still not sure which car seat to go for to be honest. A lot of people have recommended the maxi cosi pebble to me but I want to do some more research. Bugaboo ticked the boxes tbh and covers all terrains which was important. DH then saw that the fox 3 is on sale on the bugaboo website for £600 with a 4 year guarantee so that kinda sealed the deal! I also liked the Nuna mixx and Uppababy Cruz. Tbh they are all pretty similar!

thislittlebird · 10/02/2024 16:57

@KG1244 I think so??? now I can kinda picture a girl living with us. It's all so strange still! Poor kid will probably have my annoyingly thin hair. But the difficult thing is the name and pretending we don't know to family. I want to use my nan's name, Elsie, as a middle name, but everything I like for girls doesn't sound good with it at all. It's annoying.

We have a 90 min one booked too! I like the Nuna stuff because it's quite light weight, but I think I moved away from the mixx to looking more at the triv because I read it's a good small size, we need something fairly small to fit in our car boot. Did you try the fox 3 in the shop? Was it bulky? I've heard a few of the bugaboos are so I'm not sure if they'll have one to suit us. We have little room in the car and not much room in our hallway, either.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/02/2024 19:13

@thislittlebird Aww congrats on your girl :) I'm jealous 😅

There are lots of types of reusable nappies :) We only ever had two parters as I wanted the best level of containment possible. The ones we have are fabulous. Not a single poo leak in two years of being worn!

ASGIRC · 10/02/2024 21:42

@thislittlebird Yay girl!!! Im team girl as well and its soooo easy to get lost in all the beautiful girly things!

I went for my GD test at 10am, because I am NOT a morning person. And to be fair, the sugary drink made me quite nauseous, so I couldnt even face eating anything afterwards... And then, like an idiot, went on to do other things, and didnt eat, and by the time I got home I wasnt feeling well, as my blood sugar was quite low!!!

Thats good news on the cholesterol at least, that it hasnt increased with pregnancy!

KG1244 · 10/02/2024 21:42

@thislittlebird People don’t use their middle name that much so I wouldn’t let it stop you choosing a first name you like. I’m also going with a family name for the middle. So the fox 3 is discontinued now, they only have the fox 5 in store but I think the 3 is very similar. It’s also half the price of the 5 😂

thislittlebird · 11/02/2024 09:48

@TheBirdintheCave I'm rooting for a surprise girl for you!

I think I'll try both kinds of nappy and see how we get on.

@ASGIRC well that's just typical lol. I'll get up early and get out if it means I get to eat sooner! Do you just sit around for 2 hours? I'll bring a book. They tested my blood sugar at the same time as my cholesterol so I'm hoping I'm fine on that front.

@KG1244 yeah, it's just tough because it all feels too vowel-y. I'd like a nice rhythm to the two names.

Half the price of the 5 sounds ideal!

I saw these lilac baby dunagarees (now I know it's very likely a girl) and wanted to buy them: https://www.marksandspencer.com/pointelle-frill-dungarees-7lbs-1-yrs-/p/clp60616910?color=SOFTLILAC#intid=pidpg3pip48g4r6c4 - would it be ok for a 0-3 month or 9-12 month year old? I want to buy it but my baby will be those ages in summer 2024 and spring 2025 and it looks quite spring summer. Feels like 0-3 months is very much sleep suit/baby grow territory so maybe the biggest size for next spring.

OP posts:
ASGIRC · 11/02/2024 09:54

@thislittlebird yup... Sit around for 2h... Here they take your blood before you drink the thing, then 1h after and 2h after, which checks how your pancreas is dealing with the sugar.

You can definitely get those dungarees for the summer. There will be times you'll want to dress her up a bit more.
I know mine will only be in sleepsuits to sleep 😂😂😂

thislittlebird · 11/02/2024 14:02

@ASGIRC I'll make sure to bring a book!

I bet ours will be in sleep suits a lot because I won't go out a ton probably. I can't decide whether to get them for when they're a small baby or wait until older, I'm sure I'll find another pair for this summer when they're a little baby. Stuck on the H&M website now browsing all the cute clothes!

Oh god this ONS data release saga is a joke, now they're saying April at earliest! See here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/baby_names/4883569-ons-2022-predictions-thread?reply=132942595

It will be interesting to see what effect this has on names chosen, maybe, but generally it just seems a mess. Not sure why they've lost the plot quite this much, was it because it was the census data year?

You guys are mostly further on than me. I’ve been feeling the baby move daily for a few weeks now but nothing yesterday and today. When should I start to worry or seek advice, do you think? I’ve tried the ice cold water and lying on my left thing but might try again before bed. I’m 25 weeks now.

(I managed to post this on the ONS thread in error 🫠)

ASGIRC · 12/02/2024 22:55

@thislittlebird Honestly, if I was concerned, Id go get checked out, regardless of what is supposed to be normal.
Ive had days of less activity, but never nothing.
Obviously, now it is a constant ass kicking from the inside, but I figure it doesnt matter. If worried, get checked out!

CollsR · 13/02/2024 08:03

@thislittlebird Im now 28 weeks and had times where I thought I’d gone a day or two or three without feeling movement. My placenta is to the back so I feel less movement & I think my baby doesn’t moved much overall. If I’ve been busy at work or a friend visits for the day… I don’t tend to notice/register the movement so I’m never really sure.

For peace of mind, I would just get it checked out.

PS - The thing that usually makes them move is a sugar rush so I’ve been told by ultrasound tech

thislittlebird · 13/02/2024 08:32

@ASGIRC @CollsR thanks. So last night we tried all the things, the cold water, had ice cream (possibly felt something very, very small with the ice cream), tried jumping, and tried shining a torch at my belly, and the torch resulted in a jump or jolt. My husband felt it, but it’s the only movement I’ve felt I can probably identify. I’m hoping it’s ok, but I’m going to call the maternity unit at 9 anyway and tell them I’m a bit concerned. My sister in law is a midwife and she thinks baby could have turned and be kicking placenta, I hope it’s that.
