Couldn't see another and the old one is full. Will copy the list from the last one, the tags are really temperamental though and it definitely has quite a few people missing sorry 🙈

Does anyone have a take on cot bed mattresses? I bought one one Amazon and it’s arrived as is very firm.

I wouldn’t want to sleep on a mattress so firm, but it’s got good reviews on Amazon. Do babies need firm mattresses? It’s not for when baby is 6 months plus but wondered if anyone has an opinion?

LittleAlien24 · 25/11/2023 07:55

@lucya66 me, my DH and one of the teenagers love extra firm mattresses so when me and daughters went to buy a mattress for the baby the teenager obviously chose one that's quite firm and said that be good for baby. I couldn't argue because firm mattress does help my back so would go with it for our baby as well

PartRadish · 25/11/2023 08:41

Please excuse this very self indulgent moan but I am so uncomfortable now 😑 Not too bad in the day but overnight she wedges herself painfully right under my ribs now so I can't sleep and then she stays wedged there until I've walked around enough for her to drop.

My youngest was nearly 8 weeks old at this point and middle I went into labour with at 32+6 (32+4 today). My last term baby was 12 years ago so it is vague but I really don't remember being this uncomfortable at this stage. The thought of potentially having another 7-9 more weeks of growth is 🤯

She seems to like being back to back too so my back is sore too. I feel really guilty for moaning because obviously this is vastly preferable to another preemie but blimey did I take for granted how different being heavily pregnant as a fit as a fiddle 23 year old was 😆

Yes the mattress needs to be firm. The Lullaby Trust recommends a firm, flat, new mattress to recuse the risk of SIDS.

Matildahoney · 25/11/2023 09:48

I think we're going with this one https://www.johnlewis.com/kub-cool-ecoflow-fibre-cotbed-mattress-140-x-70cm/p5786108 cot is being built today and pics going up in the nursery! Then once baby is here we'll get curtains and lampshade as we don't know what we're having & want to brighten the room up a bit with something!

TunnocksTCake · 25/11/2023 13:42

@Luhou thanks, good ideas I need to restock my craft box! none of my mum friends are still off on Fridays but maybe a playgroup or something where I don't need to get involved... she always wants to stay in her PJs on a Friday and is so hard to get dressed and I just don't have the energy to fight!!

I'm all alone for the next 24 hours so going to make the absolute most of slobbing around! Started washing baby's clothes too which is exciting (and a bit late!!)

Luhou · 25/11/2023 14:19

@TunnocksTCake my DD does a ballet class which is really good as you just watch. Gives you 45mins of peace. Also sometimes in the afternoons we find ballet on youtube and she's happy following the instructions. We're making paperchains on the sofa thie afternoon. B&M had loads of Christmas activity packs.

Sometimes it's just a case of bribery for an easy life at the moment. Put your own shoes on and you can have a chocolate coin 🤣

LozzieLoo · 25/11/2023 14:48

I’ve also started washing baby’s things this week and going to pack my hospital bag. All feeling very real.
The health visitor turned up today with no notice, apparently should have received a phone call or letter. Thankfully the house was in a reasonable state!

suz2285 · 25/11/2023 14:53

@PartRadish omg I hear ya! I had my hypnobirth course this morning, was 5 hours of sitting in a really hard chair with the baby wedged in my ribs! It was getting so uncomfy I had to stand up and move but by the end it was causing cramps and actual pain! I was getting a bit worried tbh!

Luckily when I came home, lay down and moved a bit he must've moved and the pain went away but jeez! It was actually painful, ironic that I'm learning about labour and then leaving thinking I'm in pain now 🙈😂 so now I'm like jeez if that was painful then labour isn't gonna be fun at all 😂😂😂

lucya66 · 25/11/2023 14:54

@Matildahoney @Inmydreams88 thank you for the help :)

Lightningrain · 25/11/2023 15:24

@Mushroo My thoughts are the same at the moment that I’d rather avoid induction if I can. I had wondered whether it might be suggested if I look like going overdue. I don’t really fancy the recovery from a c section either so hoping I go into labour naturally!

@Mummyme87 thank you. Good to know that a water birth might not be completely off the cards. The first doctor I saw put the blood pressure down to white coat syndrome, so to me it would make sense to try and make the environment as relaxing as possible. I’ve borrowed a blood pressure monitor to check it at home and averaging about 100/70 whilst on the medication (some readings are bordering on low) so it definitely just seems to be a problem when it’s taken at the hospital. The community midwife was a bit concerned about it going too low so I’m keeping an eye on it and any sign of dizziness etc I’ll call triage. I see the consultant again the week after next when I go for the 36 week scan so I’ll ask the questions then.

They initially seemed like they were going to pass me back to midwife led after the first appointment but then backtracked and said I’d see the consultant again but no scans. Everything fine at the next appointment but he called me afterwards as I was getting in the car to say he’d changed his mind and was going to book me two scans just to be on the safe side. It seems to be a recurring theme as I’ve had the same with two doctors having different opinions on prescribing aspirin (one said to take it as I’m over 35 and the other said I didn’t need it as guidance was for over 40’s) and now the blood pressure. They can’t seem to agree between themselves! Hopefully it’s a bit easier agreeing a birth plan!

We’re having another decorating weekend and then next weekend might try and put up Christmas decorations. I don’t think I’ve had a surge of nesting energy just yet although the baby things are pretty much sorted now with clothes washed and put away.

Lightningrain · 25/11/2023 15:26

@suz2285 I’ve had a couple of occasions in the evenings where baby seems to have got into an uncomfortable position. The only thing that helped was going to bed so that I could get comfy with the pregnancy pillow! It’s a bit worrying that there’s another few weeks of growing to do when they’re already struggling for space in there 😂

buckingmad · 25/11/2023 17:10

Boy oh boy I’ve overdone it today. Trying to do a deep clean of one room a day at the weekends between now and baby coming and today was my room. Feel mentally a lot better for it but my body is broken! Just been to aldi to stock up on biscuits, yoghurts and nappies (both toddler and newborn!) and the braxton hicks were ridiculous. Literally take my breath away.

Im a week off how pregnant I was when I got
married. I remember being a bit tired by midnight but otherwise I was fine! I wouldn’t even manage an hour at a wedding now 😂

Mummyme87 · 25/11/2023 17:53

Also very uncomfortable and I’ve just had my lunch break at work, has been very hectic. Inhaled my food so even more uncomfortable. Only 2
more hours of work then 4 shifts to go! I’m so done, just want to sleeeep

LittleAlien24 · 25/11/2023 19:39

Yay 3 weeks of chiseling done 😁 most of the rooms have 1st cleaning done. Now 2 to 3 weeks for the ceiling so hopefully we can get Christmas tree up for Christmas.

I feel so uncomfortable as well. Yesterday i don't know what way he was or why but i just couldn't stand for longer than few seconds in one go. Today im sore down below and my back is in bits again. Plus i don't is it strong kicks or what but im suddenly getting shooting sharp pains on my lower belly, bad enough that i have to grab my belly or crunch 🤔

EL27 · 25/11/2023 22:33

I'm planning on getting hospital bag ready in the next few days! I am packing a bag for me and one for baby. Possibly might take an extra bag to leave in the car with extra clothes, nappies, sanitary products etc (just in case we're in for longer) as we live about 40 mins away from hospital.

Speaking of what do people prefer - pads or disposable underwear and does anyone have any recommendations? Also love to hear thoughts on different nappy brands as I haven't bought any nappies yet apart from freebie pampers I got.

Dannic2018 · 25/11/2023 22:48

I genuinely think this baby is trying to escape 🤣 never have I known such a wriggle bum. Once she starts there is no stopping her for ages, she moves everywhere or at least moves every limb, it’s like the Mexican wave constantly then hiccups in the mix and braxton hicks, it’s all fun on a Saturday night 🤣🤣

Onedayatatime24 · 26/11/2023 00:04

@Dannic2018 I was just coming on here to ask if baby can move too much 😂 he wiggles for a good hour-90 mins from about 10.30pm most nights, so much so that it makes me feel queasy sometimes! I never had morning sickness so I'm not loving this motion sickness type feeling whenever I get in to bed... Although can't complain at baby moving! Maybe I should reduce my sugar intake or something 😂

buckingmad · 26/11/2023 00:20

@EL27 personally I love the aldi own nappies and their wipes. They’re such good value and the only leakages I’ve ever had honestly wouldn’t have been contained by anything.

I’ve also used sainsburys own which are good and her nursery have recently switched from aldi to Asda.

Wipes wise I really like the M&S and Aldi ones. HATE Huggies wipes with all my soul. They just rip as you pull them out. Pampers wipes are a dream but pricy.

what am I doing awake at this time you ask? Just finished stripping the bed after DD has projectile vomited across it. She’s had a high temp/fever with this cold and she woke up an hour ago absolutely scalding but was too soon for next dose of calpol and I think she’s drunk way too much water and upset her stomach. I’m hopeful it’s not an actual stomach bug but I suppose the next few hours will tell 🫠

and now for a sleepless night watching her breathe 😴

Mummyme87 · 26/11/2023 07:20

@buckingmad hopefully she’s had a good night and slept the rest. The bugs are rife right now. I’ve been awake since 6 which has annoyed me as I’m tired. The bloody dog was crying at the kitchen door also for unknown reasons which woke the kids up 😖

waiting to hear if rugby is cancelled this morning, fingers crossed it is. The ground was frozen yesterday morning so likely will be the same today.

Luhou · 26/11/2023 07:44

@EL27 another vote for aldi nappies and wipes, although I found sometimes as my DD grew she went through phases of them fitting well and not so much so we use to switch between these and pampers. Newborn phase aldi though.

I did a mix of disposable knickers (always discreet) and pads. I like the sainsburys maxi pads. No wings and they're thick which means they kept their shape, so not to irrritate stitches like the thinner ones. Going to try the boots cooling pads this time too

Luhou · 26/11/2023 07:45

@buckingmad hope your little one feeling better @Mummyme87 hope rugby cancelled and you can have a chill morning!

Mummyme87 · 26/11/2023 08:05

I’m a massive advocate for cloth wipes, I do cloth nappies aswell but for my first I just used the wipes and they were elite. Soooo much better than any disposable wipe, 100% recommend.

and also, big cotton knickers with boots maternity pads. I’m not into the ‘nappy’ style disposable ones, you need to put pads in them anyway.

all rugby called off this morning 🥳🥳 so chilled morning. I may attempt to write my lists for hospital bags and what else we need to get.

also going to see Santa tonight and do a festive light trail 🎅🏻 🎄

buckingmad · 26/11/2023 08:18

@Mummyme87 @Luhou thank you! She wasn’t sick again and is a normal temp again. Woke up asking for her favourite film and chatting to me. Weird cause the cold she’s had has really been quite mild. Today is definitely going to be a stay inside day (minus sorting the horse out quickly and taking dog for a walk of course 🙄) I’ve got a loooooot of washing to do now.

Dannic2018 · 26/11/2023 10:07

@Onedayatatime24 🤣🤣this is what she’s like she can be so active for so long and is a little strong thing. I genuinely can’t see my stomach stretching another 6 weeks, it’s already got that skin shine 🤣.

@EL27 I’m going to try Aldi newborn as I’ve heard good things, I used pampers with my ds and tbh the bigger nappies I do prefer pampers. I’ve bought Aldi for nursery and they aren’t as absorbent but this is against a toddler who drinks a lot.
Wipes wise I love Pampers sensitive, but only the ones that’s not 100% plant based as they are still thick and wet so you don’t need as many. But if you have a asda near you, I’ve stock piled on their own brand newborn wipes, they are in a 4 pack and currently scanning at £1 so you can’t go wrong for 25p a pack can you?
