Couldn't see another and the old one is full. Will copy the list from the last one, the tags are really temperamental though and it definitely has quite a few people missing sorry 🙈

Thank you everyone 💙

His stats were stable last night but still on CPAP, doing a lumbar puncture today to test for sepsis and meningitis but hopefully comes back negative and he’ll be out soon🤞🏼

Hope everyone is keeping well🤍

Bims2019 · 12/12/2023 09:04

Congratulations @am3017! Glad he's stable and hopefully you'll both be home soon x

Matildahoney · 12/12/2023 09:34

Congratulations @am3017 keeping everything crossed for you.

Does anyone have any experience with remifentanil? Midwife I saw last week said she would advise that for me, I just wondered what people's experiences were and if anyone knew the reason why they might sway that way? Having read a couple of the affects it could cause on labour pains.org I'm not that keen on it.

Dannic2018 · 12/12/2023 09:34

Aw congratulations @am3017 hope you’re doing ok? Must of been a bit of a shock. Sending love ❤️

Gremlin84 · 12/12/2023 09:40

Congrats @am3017 here’s hoping once all the checks are done you can head home together with minimal delay

Mummyme87 · 12/12/2023 09:50

@Matildahoney my friend had it in labour and loved it but they stopped it when she was pushing for unknown reasons which was horrific. We don’t use it at my trust routinely, it’s offered to those who cannot have an epidural (which is few and far between). You can’t mobilise with it as in between contractions you’re so knocked out, oxygen levels often drop which often means you need oxygen on, most women use gas & air with it. Very hit and miss drug, wouldn’t be a first choice

TunnocksTCake · 12/12/2023 09:53

Oh wow @am3017 what a surprise! Congratulations and I hope you're out of the hospital soon. 💕

Matildahoney · 12/12/2023 10:15

Thanks @Mummyme87 as far as I'm aware I can have an epidural, they haven't said I can't, just that it was just an option which she said she would have suggested for me. But if no clear reason I don't like the idea it could affect babies breathing when it comes out, and I don't particularly want to be on oxygen for it!! It's such a minefield and so helpful having you in this group! X

Mummyme87 · 12/12/2023 10:26

@Matildahoney some units just have it as an option. Some anaesthetists tried to bring it in as a routine option at my trust but we pushed back against it because of side effects/poor pain relief

Matildahoney · 12/12/2023 10:29

@Mummyme87 so birthing pool or epidural then are best options?

Mummyme87 · 12/12/2023 10:38

@Matildahoney depends on lots of things. Wouldn’t say there’s a best option as everyone feels differently. I’m hoping to use TENS, gas&air and pool this time, but previously pethidine and epidural were a life saver as I was induced and exhausted.

Matildahoney · 12/12/2023 11:08

@Mummyme87 she said she absolutely wouldn't recommend to pethidine for me.
I'm potentially being induced due to my age, baby's size, apparently I'm high risk for some things but she didn't specifically say what & put me down as normal risk, told me I have to be on labour ward to be monitored but it may not be continuous monitoring. So up in the air really! Hopefully I get some decisions Tues or this baby hurries up and comes out on its own! It's far more fidgety the last couple of days, belly feels quite tight, no idea what to expect re going into natural labour though, What's normal & what to look out for!

Mummyme87 · 12/12/2023 11:29

@Matildahoney unless you have a medical disorder like sickle cell or epilepsy, you can’t be recommended against pethidine. Specifically on personal opinion. It’s commonly used with IOLs, it sounds more like she just doesn’t like it. First time I had it I hated it, second time it gave me the hour or two sleep I needed. Important thing is knowledge and having all your tools ready, basic paracetamol, codeine, oral morphine, tens machine, hypnobirthing/breathing techniques, music, your birth partner knowing what they’re going to offer to help (squeezing hips, light touch massage, hard massage/pressure on lower back).
With pain relief, you just don’t know until you get to it, have it all ready and the knowledge in your head and try it all out.

Luhou · 12/12/2023 11:38

@am3017 congratulations! What a suprise.

PartRadish · 12/12/2023 11:54

Not really sure what I should be doing here...

Husband's Nan passed away suddenly yesterday. She was elderly but had seemed fine Sunday and just didn't wake up yesterday 😔 Husband was essentially her unofficial carer and he's understandably heartbroken.

Since we found out I've been having on and off tightenings. I'll share a screenshot of last nightnight. They did settle over night and have been totally irregular today. Just went to the loo and had a teeny bit of spotting (fresh red, not mucousy, really we're talking a couple of spots) when I wiped though. I dont feel like labour is imminent but I'm worried maybe the tightenings are maybe putting pressure on the stitch and obviously there is the risk of tearing 🤮 I feel awful dragging husband to triage right now though if it's literally nothing.

Oh sorry forgot the screenshot. Not that it means much because they're not like this now, totally irregular now!

@PartRadish no advice I'm afraid but sending my condolences. Maybe ring midwives to see what they say? I don't know if proper labour contractions can get less frequent rather than more?
Hope your dh (and you) are ok, take care of yourself x

Mummyme87 · 12/12/2023 12:45

Oh @PartRadish I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
if the tightening have settled then I wouldn’t worry, it takes a lot for a suture to tear the cervix the spotting may just be irritation. Paracetamol, warm bath if you can and put your feet up (if you can). See how it goes. Fingers crossed they stay away

Hummusanddipdip · 12/12/2023 14:35

@PartRadish I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you and your husband are ok, such horrible news for you!!!
No advice on tightening, but @Mummyme87 has you!

Take care and try to relax xx

Mushroo · 12/12/2023 14:44

I’ve been a bit quiet on here and have missed loads! It’s a quick moving thread 😂

No major updates other than I’m really trying to manifest a pre-Xmas birth.

Unlikely I think seeing as she’s showing no
signs of moving and my bump is still quite high.

My only ‘symptom’ is increased bowel movements 🙄
