@Thack I think induction would be next Thursday/Friday so a while yet but yeah I’d hope it happens before that 🫢

@LeeanneD11 well I’ve been in mild pain pretty much ever since, I’ve had ‘contractions’ every 10 minutes for a couple hours now, not sure braxton hicks could be that regular? Who knows! I guess it will either progress or I’ll go bed and wake up with nothing 😂

Katiec1 · 14/11/2023 18:25

@LeeanneD11 congratulations to you 💙

Travellingislife · 14/11/2023 19:07

@LeeanneD11 congratulations!

@DollyGx that sounds promising! How’s it going?

@Mrsrobinsonx the sweep sounds like it did something, hopefully it all kicks off soon.

My baby isn’t engaged so they haven’t been able to do a sweep unfortunately. I’m slowly becoming used to the idea of being induced but I really don’t want to as a I believe the baby will come when it’s ready. It’s becoming increasingly hard worrying about whether I’m doing the right thing for the baby though so I might just agree to be induced to not having to worry about going against their advice.

I’m 41+1 and yesterday I thought something might be going on as I had regular BH’s for hours when I normally don’t, but nothing since and I feel completely normal, soooo frustrating.

PinkPlantCase · 14/11/2023 19:59

If it helps @Travellingislife I’ve decided that I’ll accept extra monitoring from 42 weeks and would consider induction after 43 weeks though I very much doubt things will get that far.

Chlo496 · 14/11/2023 21:01

Has anyone had an appointment with a consultant after declining induction at 41 weeks? I am 40+4 and have my appointment tomorrow with the consultant, just wondering what to expect.

LeeanneD11 · 14/11/2023 21:30

For all the mummy's with a tongue tie baby how you getting on with feeding? , I'm struggling to feed him on the boob he knows it there but won't latch on . And the last thing I want to do is stress myself out and bubba . Xx

foodislife1 · 14/11/2023 21:55

@LeeanneD11
Congratulations on your baby!
I found it tough - was very painful to feed so we ended up seeing someone privately to have the tongue tie cut and it's been much better since.

Travellingislife · 15/11/2023 03:49

@PinkPlantCase thank you, it makes me more confident sticking to what I believe in after seeing you write that. I don’t hear many women declining induction and that also puts the pressure on.
Is this your first? Have you been induced before?
I feel there is too much intervention now, I’ve read a lot published by Sarah Wickham after a recommendation from you I think! it’s very informative and puts it in perspective.
All the best to you and I’m sure your baby will come on it’s own before 43 weeks 😊
Cramping woke me up now and it is different; regular, stronger and both front at the from and back, so I’m hoping this is the start of labour!

@Chlo496 I’ve spoken to the consultant twice and declined induction, I’m 41+2, he has been good about it, not pushy at all and just told me it’s their policy to inform me about the risks and that he needs to recommend induction. I’ve read a lot of research about induction and know that some professionals will twist the numbers and make it sound like you’re taking a huge risk by not accepting an induction. My recommendation is that you read up on it and ask questions of the consultant. They should accept your decision and not try to push you into having it.
Even though they didn’t put pressure on me directly they do by just mentioning risks and recommending induction, I have been finding it quite hard the last few days as I’m wondering if I’m making the right decision.
Now I’m going labour has started on its own though so hopefully I won’t have to go down the induction route.
Hope your meeting goes well today, let me know how you get on!

PinkPlantCase · 15/11/2023 08:06

@Travellingislife this is my second. My first was born spontaneously at 41+1 this was before the NICE guidance changed. So in 2021 when I had him the guidance was to induce at 42 weeks though I could have asked for it before then. Going to 41+1 last time I didn’t have to see a consultant or anything. It’s crazy how much it’s changed in the last 2 years.

They only changed the guidance to induce at 41 weeks because they realised that with the induction process and hospital staffing it was taking 5 days plus so inducing at 41 means that baby will probably be born before 42. Surely by waiting until 42 they’d be doing less inductions as a good chunk of those women would go into spontaneous labour and would likely have a better experience and there’d be less pressure on their staffing because they wouldn’t need to do as many inductions 🙄

Inductions have their place but so so many of them at the moment are just unnecessary. In a lot of trusts the induction rate is almost 50%.

I’ll stop ranting now 😂

2023novbaby · 15/11/2023 08:10

Anyone have any tips for engorgement!? My milk is coming in thick and fast and breasts are so painful during the nights

BabyBabyBaby123 · 15/11/2023 08:29

@2023novbaby are you breastfeeding? If you are just keep feeding and feeding!

if you’re not, I’ve heard that decongestants can dry your milk up if you’re breastfeeding, and should be avoided, so that’s what I’ll be using when I am ready to stop and want to reduce my milk - but these are only safe if you don’t have high blood pressure.

Cabbage leaves in your bra are meant to help too …

2023novbaby · 15/11/2023 08:37

Thank you, yes I’m breastfeeding

Travellingislife · 15/11/2023 08:44

@PinkPlantCase I had my son in 2020 and went to 42 weeks without seeing a consultant, my midwife booked me in for induction at 42 weeks but I went in to labour the day before!
I agree with everything you said re induction..

reememberly · 15/11/2023 10:54

Congratulations @LeeanneD11 - hope your first night went well.

@Travellingislife - did the cramping carry on this morning?

@2023novbaby - engorgement is so awful. Savoy cabbage in your bra, out the fridge, is super weird but it is soothing. Apparently helps the inflammation although I didn’t notice a huge difference. If it’s really bad the swelling will make it hard to get the baby latched on well, so a warm compress and some hand expressing just before you feed can help soften things up enough to get them on a bit better. But mostly it’s just time that helps. I am through the worst of it, but not fully and still trying to heal the damage done to my nipples even though I was using all these tips. Hope it’s mild and passes quickly for you!

Travellingislife · 15/11/2023 11:06

@reememberly I’ve still got contractions but they’re not that long, around 30-40s every 6 ish minutes, or painful, but they don’t seem to get worse. I hope it ramps up soon as I’d like to get on with it 😅

PinkPlantCase · 15/11/2023 11:12

@Travellingislife tonight could be the night!!

reememberly · 15/11/2023 11:17

@Travellingislife - seems wrong to be wishing more pain on you, but hoping it gets worse for you soon!!

LilmissCa · 15/11/2023 12:31

My wee man was born yday afternoon.. got my waterbirth was buzzing! He came super super quick and still has some fluid in his lungs so been in NICU on oxygen. Longest night ever without him 😔 hoping & praying he get off it later tonight & back to me 🙏🏼

Congrats to the other new arrivals

TMI2000 · 16/11/2023 06:12

Sorry for any TMI! Think I may be in early stages of labour 🤞🏻 have been losing mucus and mucus plug in bits over the last 2/3 days but it seemed to ramp up yesterday with there even being some in my underwear on two occasions (thought it could’ve been waters but not had much since and more of a mucus consistency) and then I’ve had on and off sharp cramping throughout the night. Still pretty irregular with hours in between some and not massively painful but I should know more at my sweep this morning. 🤞🏻

Thack · 16/11/2023 06:58

@LilmissCa congratulations! That sounds like a brilliant birth, how is little one doing?

Finger's crossed @TMI2000 Wishing you a soft open cervix!

To anyone who needs to hear this right now (all of you?)... PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISE
(I need reminding. I am not doing well!)

LeeanneD11 · 16/11/2023 07:00

Hi does anyone have advise please , I'm on day 2 with baby. And each time he latches on it hurts, my breast hurts too and have engorged, is it suppose to hurt? This is my first time doing something like this xx

Mrsrobinsonx · 16/11/2023 07:15

Hi ladies, well my sweep on Tuesday worked!
had contractions all day after it, husband made me go to hospital at 1am yesterday morning and our third little girl arrived at 3.30am! Would have been quicker but they realised her head was looking sideways so had to wait for her to rotate it 🤭
very in love, after pains horrific but I did expect that with my 3rd.
congratulations to the other new mamas xx

Does it hurt when he first latches on or for the whole feed? Especially this early on it’s normal for it to hurt when they first latch on but it shouldn’t be too bad for the rest of the feed. It does definitely take some time for your nipples to get used to it and harden up a bit.

There are people who say it shouldn’t hurt at all but I don’t think that’s realistic, it was painful for me near the beginning and nothing was wrong with the latch or tongue tie or anything my body just had to get used to it, and it did!

Lansinoh nipple cream is really good too.
