Hi everyone, congratulations on your babies!

We had an early arrival too. Is there a thread for postnatal discussion on Nov babies?

I'm feeling extremely emotional and teary, definitely got the baby blues and struggling to sleep too. Not sure what to do tbh. I am under mental health midwifery team so might give them a call on Monday. Please say it passes? I'm exclusively breastfeeding and milk has now dried out I think. I'm doubting whether I'm bonding well with my baby. With my previous DC, I was breastfeeding and baby was ill so I was very protective and felt intense love, this time it feels different. There's definitely love but that strong bond/pull isn't there. I'm feeling a bit redundant that I'm not needed and worried that baby doesn't know me 😭. As much as DH tries to convince me that she looks at me with puppy eyes, I don't think it's true.

Thack · 04/11/2023 01:52

Congratulations @JoyApple!
You have just been through the most intense physical and emotional roller-coaster. Your hormones will be all over the place and disrupted sleep makes everything heightened on top of it.
Be kind to yourself! This is a lot!

It does improve but please take the support where you can. Call the hospital ward or your midwife if the MH team is not available. You are under their care and they are so welcoming (I had to call the ward day 10 for advice, so reassuring!).

What makes you think there's a problem with your milk?
Baby will be awful night 2 and it can take days /weeks to get match right. Wet and dirty nappies are the best indicator.
Are you in a local BF group online?

You are all baby has known. They are still a part of you for all they know! I haven't gone to deep love right away with either child. This is normal, it comes and they do love and need us.

Post here as much as you'd like, we are here with you x

Psqueak87 · 04/11/2023 02:25

@Thack thank you for the vote of confidence! I’m pretty useless but I’m not too worried, I feel like surely it’ll be self explanatory and if not I will YouTube it 😜

Crazybrowncow · 04/11/2023 03:16

Congratulations @JoyApple!

Hang in there, you are doing great. I had awful baby blues with DC1 & it is something I am dreading with this one, it is such a mental struggle with everyone around you and with the baby. Managing other people's excitement, with how emotional and gloomy you feel at times. I think my baby blues experience has probably tarnished this pregnancy for me I'm sending lots of love and strength, I think it is something that should be talked about more as the blues knocked me for six.

It definitely does pass. It will take time, it took longer than I expected tbh with you, However we had a rough ride with DC1 going back in to high dependency- so the two things collided.

Don't wait until Monday, contact the team tomorrow just for some reassurance, it'll help. Post here, we can all try and help. Don't feel alone with it. Keep your chin up love xx

WriMum22 · 04/11/2023 06:41

@JoyApple first of all, your doing amazing, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. You’ve spent the last 9 months growing your child, you’ve then birthed that child and those experiences can take its toll both physically and mentally, when you throw in the those pesky hormones, it’s a washing machine of emotion.

I struggled terribly with my son four years ago and it’s from there my relationship with the perinatal mental health team began. I can promise you with everything I have, what you’re feeling absolutely will pass and it will get better, but key to that is talking. You must open up to your midwife or health visitor and they will support you fully, especially as they see this all the time. It’s so common to have the baby blues, so don’t beat yourself up about it either.

You’re strong, you’re not alone and you’ve got this. If you ever need to chat, day or night (we’ve got our little babies to feed at all hours) please message me x

PinkPlantCase · 04/11/2023 07:19

How many days post partum are you? @JoyApple

reememberly · 04/11/2023 17:15

Baby girl safely delivered here on Wednesday and we are so relieved and grateful, but has been a tough few days for various reasons.

@JoyApple sorry you’re struggling. I’m def having some blue spells too, especially when the tiredness hits. It’s so common at this stage, so I try to just block out the anxiety and overthinking that comes with it because it usually passes. Go easy on yourself and of course ask for more help if you need it x

Psqueak87 · 04/11/2023 19:12

Probably TMI but did a dog walk this morning, then came back for a nap and woke up a couple of minutes ago needing a pee.

when I pee’d the water was pink. And pink tissue when I wiped. No chunks or nothing. But clearly blood in it as it was pretty pink.

called the hospital, they said monitor for a few hours with a pad. I’m due tomorrow. This happened to anyone?

no contractions at all.

PinkPlantCase · 04/11/2023 19:50

@Psqueak87 sounds like bloody show, its exciting! I’d assume it was pinkish vaginal discharge rather than blood in your wee. Get some rest, hopefully labour isn’t too far away 😁

Psqueak87 · 04/11/2023 19:56

@PinkPlantCase thank you! I always expected bloody show to be mucus-ier. But I assume not everyone’s is the same. I’ve got a pad on now and will see what happens, it’s been on about 30 mins but there’s nothing in it. I just went and tried to pee again a small amount of liquid came out. And I could see in the water that the liquid was light pink as it entered the toilet, but only very light pink. And there was barely any liquid at all.

The nurse on the phone said I only need to be concerned if it’s a UTI. Obviously I’m no expert, but I’ve had many UTI’s and there’s not the classic sting / burn with the pee coming out, so I have to assume it’s not!

LilmissCa · 04/11/2023 20:02

@Psqueak87 exciting !! Hopefully this is the start. My 2nd I lost my mucus plug then during labour had the bloody show, where my urine was pink& clearly bloody. Scared the life out of me cuz I wasn't expecting it, my partner went to show it to the midwive (I was peeing in a container to measure mls).

PinkPlantCase · 04/11/2023 20:02

@Psqueak87 these things are so different for different people! I don’t think I lost anything mucusy last time and my waters didn’t break until I was well into established labour and then it was literally like a flood with every contraction, we found it hilarious at the time 😂 It might be that your waters are trickling slowly as they can also
be a bit pink but if there’s nothing in the pad then that probably isn’t the case.

I’d have thought the same as you and would expect a UTI to come with some other symptoms!

JoyApple · 04/11/2023 20:16

@reememberly @WriMum22 @Crazybrowncow @Thack Thank you so much for all your reassuring messages and kind words ❤️ For those of you who have had baby blues, when does it go away?

It seems to kick in when I'm very tired in the evening (I've been up and about during the day) and we've been having guests round, which makes it even more tiring. Thankfully no more guests now till next weekend.

I will contact the perinatal team 1st thing on Monday and I'm due a visit from them on Thursday but maybe they can bring it earlier. I also have a therapy session on Tuesday but my therapist is young and hasn't had children, so I'm not sure how much she can support.

@PinkPlantCase I'm 8 days post partum ... Is this just baby blues and will pass or is it PND? This is my worry.

WriMum22 · 04/11/2023 20:24

@JoyApple My blues started and then did turn into post natal depression. But what I would say is don’t focus on when the blues will go, or worry about PND. Focus solely and yourself, baby and family. Set little goals for yourself, things you like to do. For example, I’ve just booked to have my nails done at the end of the month, it is something that makes me feel good so knowing that, that little pamper is booked in, it really lifted me. I also set myself a goal yesterday to have a shower and wash my hair and when I achieved it, it felt so lovely. Just take little baby steps whilst you recover mentally and physically and focus on that.

LeeanneD11 · 04/11/2023 20:33

Hi everyone for those of you who have a c section

What would you recommend I take with me and to help with pain & trapped wind,

My last c section I didn't suffer with trapped wind .
But I want to prepare myself this time round

I hope your doing well for those of you who had a baby recently

I can't believe I get to meet mine in 10 days I'm so excited 💙💖

JD90 · 04/11/2023 21:11

@LeeanneD11 not had a csec but had multiple lots of abdominal surgery over the years and the most helpful things for me have been mint tea, peppermint capsules and chewing gum.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 04/11/2023 21:18

@LeeanneD11 last time I had bad trapped wind, where I pressed the buzzer convinced I had shoulder tip pain and was internally bleeding … I used peppermint tea then, which helped slightly, but I have since read that this can reduce your milk supply, so I didn’t want to take it this time round.
I bought Rennies Deflatine tablets, but I didn’t need them as I didn’t get trapped wind this time.
I hope you manage to escape it, as it was awful when I had it.
I would fully recommend you getting on the fybogel now! I took it in the run up to my c section to prevent constipation, but haven’t kept it up since being home and I am struggling now!

Ooo thank you I'll give that a go, yeah I'm hoping to BF this time round as couldn't with my last 2 , as they was tongue tie & lactose intolerant.

I'm hoping to pass it this time but I'm not holding out lol 😂 so want to be prepared this time just in case .

I'm nervous on where to start with the whole breastfeeding process. I am 37 weeks and have midwife Friday . But is there anything I can do if I don't have the syringes or I do need them xx

Thack · 04/11/2023 21:38

@JoyApple on DC1 at around 2-3 weeks a felt a shift in baby blues.
Sleep has made a huge difference this time. I know that's not the easiest or best advice but try to get some rest in.

Your hormones crash after about a week and you find yourself randomly crying at nothing. You are not losing your shit- it’s just Mother Nature taking the piss x

Crazybrowncow · 04/11/2023 22:50

@JoyApple it was definitely past a week for me and definitely longer than suggested which I found difficult as it made me worry about PND. I hope it lifts for you soon, sleep will help massively & getting outside if you can just to sit if walking is difficult. I really feel for you. Glad it sounds like you have the support you need, they will be able to help too. I remember a midwife saying to me she could see the hormones catching up with me, just her acknowledging it helped, I found everything was going on around me and somehow I was a bit separate to it. Say no to visitors if you don't want them, they will understand. You've got this. I'm sure many of us will be awake tonight so keep messaging if you need to. x

GreenAventurinee · 05/11/2023 00:15

@LeeanneD11 I took peppermint tea but didn’t use it and luckily didn’t need it.
I would really recommend taking dulcoease tablets to help you go to the toilet. I started taking them in the evening of night two, and by night three I had the urge to go and easily too. I was super pleased with myself 🤣

My baby hasn’t pooed in 24 hours now. Is this a problem does anyone know? She’s quite windy but is taking her feeds as normal, if anything slightly more often. She’s five days old.

(Just realised this is a very poopy post)

WriMum22 · 05/11/2023 00:24

@LeeanneD11 I bought some Colpermin Peppermint tablets in a couple of weeks ago but luckily I haven’t needed them as been ok with wind up to now, touch wood. I also stayed away from anything fizzy for the first few days and primarily drank water.

PinkPlantCase · 05/11/2023 09:01

@LeeanneD11 my midwife gave me a pack with colostrum syringes in at my 37 week appointment so maybe they’ll give you some too if you want them hope you aren’t too achey too after your fall!

@JoyApple like other have said I think hormones crashing a week or so after birth is pretty normal but it’s great you’ve got extra support in place just in case and that you’re so on it! I A lot of people can find it really hard to recognise. Have you got much practical support from friends and family? Having a newborn is hard!

@GreenAventurinee is baby breasted?

GreenAventurinee · 05/11/2023 10:15

@PinkPlantCase no she’s formula fed, I still havnt had any signs of milk coming in.

She’s had a dirty nappy now. Think she is just getting into the swing of things x
