@EL27 as far as I’m aware it’s not very accurate, but I think the main thing they look for is that the speed of growth is not slowing or speeding up too much. So the trajectory should be the same between appts rather than one measurement shooting up. They won’t have referred you for a scan because your first measurement was just above the black line and then the second was also just above so growing at a steady pace if that makes sense.

also first time mum so could be talking a load of shite 😂but that’s how my mw explained it

Luhou · 12/11/2023 17:42

I would take the fundal measurements with a pinch of salt. Even the scans to be honest. My DD was predicted to be lik3 97th percentile kept being told she was going to be 10lb. She was 6lb 7.5oz

@EL27 sorry forgot to tag you.

Mummyme87 · 12/11/2023 19:00

Don’t know a huge amount about these charts @EL27 fundal height is only good if done by the same midwife every time, but still not a good predictor of weight.

I wouldn’t worry about it, but be reassured that it looks like baby is growing consistently.

1992H · 12/11/2023 19:10

@Mummyme87 ahh yes! I forget you get all the actual evidence/see it yourself with work. Must make it all the more convincing/believable to follow your gut instinct then too. I’m intrigued now to see how it goes for you!

I briefly asked my midwife the other day as we’ve booked to go away between Christmas and new year if she’s likely to be late again as the last ones and got more than likely, but you never know. It’ll be fine, but she’s the most lovely, chilled woman I’ve ever met and we then went off on a tangent chatting about something else.

1992H · 12/11/2023 19:13

@EL27 with my last two I measured off the scale fundal height at points, as with this one. My last two were totally normal weights and it wasn’t indicative of them being huge-the biggest of the two was 8lb 10 at 40+11. So whilst not tiny tiny, he certainly wasn’t anywhere near how indicated on based how I measured (& a good lb or two must’ve been his feet-he was long and slender with absolute flippers-still not changed almost 6 years later!)

Mummyme87 · 12/11/2023 19:19

@1992H I’m 37weeks on Christmas Day, planning to drive from south London to Northumberland on 23rd until 27th. I’m just assuming I wouldn’t have a baby come that early based on previous. I did have a woman recently at work telling me about her sister, two previous ‘post date’ babies, 3rd went into labour travelling on the M1 and delivered in the car at 38wks 😬😬😬

buckingmad · 12/11/2023 19:22

@Mummyme87 my mum had 4 children, all between 9-14 days late.

My waters broke with DD at 39 weeks so I’m placing a no travel ban on both DH and me from 37 weeks.

1992H · 12/11/2023 19:23

Just a touch of a drive then! Braver than me-we’re only going just under an hour and a half away 😂

those are the kinds of stories that make me twitch-and maybe contemplate buying some nappies and packing a bag incase I don’t get a homebirth! How did you keep cool to that! 😂😂😂

Mummyme87 · 12/11/2023 19:37

I’ve travelled at 37weeks both times before, first was on my own on the train up north. I do take a small bag with me of emergency bits just in case, and would only go up north to my mam that close where I know there’s a decent level 3 hospital 😬 I refuse to go to Devon to DHs parents after 36weeks

EL27 · 12/11/2023 19:41

@Ttcdcno1 @mummyme87 ahh I see what you mean about the trajectory and consistency of growth. But that makes sense and puts my mind at ease, thanks both!

I am lucky that I have had the same midwife at every appointment so far and she's great, I will make sure to ask her about percentiles ect next time I see her.

I guess I just worry as I was a chunky 10lb baby for my mum and she had complications during birth. She keeps saying he's going to be big every time she sees my bump 🥲

@luhou @1992H wow its interesting to know how much it varied... I guess they're not so accurate then! I will take it with a pinch of salt.

Dannic2018 · 12/11/2023 19:54

My 3rd @Mummyme87 has my worst and longest labour and again he was late, my friend who’s a midwife said 3rd babies are renowned for it so I’m praying my 4th will be easier 🤣

Well it was my 39th birthday yesterday and we had my friends up from Gloucester so we’ve been to Newcastle and Seaham today. By god my pelvis is shot, I walk or should I say waddle like I’ve never known and my bra’s just all need to bugger off, by the afternoon I feel like someone is squeezing my ribs. Never had this with my other 3 so it’s all new to me being in so much pain with still under 8 weeks to go. Christmas this year will be bought online 🤣🤣

MrsJ6921 · 12/11/2023 20:26

Lovely to see some fellow North East people here!

Dannic2018 · 12/11/2023 20:49

Where do you live @MrsJ6921

Hummusanddipdip · 12/11/2023 20:50

OK, I have a movement question. Not reduced or increased, just where 🤣

Ds was engaged from 27/28ish weeks and was a feet in ribs baby, never really deviated from that . This one, however, is all over the place, I'm getting everything from sternum punches and crotch kicks to stretching out across my waist. It's like he is just rolling and flipping around in there, it's really uncomfortable. Is this normal at almost 31 weeks? All google is telling me is as long as moment is in a pattern all is fine...

He measured at 67th percentile when I went for my 28 week growth scan and was engaged the whole time. So I know space wise there's still room for movement, but that much?!?!

Mummyme87 · 12/11/2023 20:56

@Dannic2018 in my head this is like second birth after having a CS for first (even though I laboured to 9cm 😂) so trying to get out of my head the third baby thing! Probably wishful thinking!!!

@Hummusanddipdip I’m getting movement everywhere aswell, top, bottom, sides, middle… he’s very active!!!

Mummyme87 · 12/11/2023 20:57

Also I’m from the north east, Newcastle, some family still live there but my mam is Alnwick now. I’ve been in London since 2005!!

Dannic2018 · 12/11/2023 21:09

@Mummyme87 well you’ll know a 32 week pregnant woman walking all around Metro centre then from Newcastle centre down to the Quays, along to the millennium bridge and back to The Gate in the centre was stupid 🤣🤣 god my pelvis is shot 😩

Mummyme87 · 12/11/2023 21:27

@Dannic2018 yes! That’s quite some walking. I did far too much last night walking from Lee valley velopark to Stratford station and getting lost in Westfield, then between central and northern line at Bank station. Today was a battle for my pelvis, not helped by sitting on the floor alot

Dannic2018 · 12/11/2023 22:10

I don’t know if it’s just me but if I sit i between the walking I seize up and it hurts more ? Sometimes it’s just easier to keep going but the waddle is something else 🤣🤣. Bless you @Mummyme87 think we push ourselves too much sometimes and forget that we are very pregnant now

ps she’s been wild tonight, feels like such a strong little thing already, think she has enjoyed the Toby carvery and birthday cake today!

MrsJ6921 · 13/11/2023 03:53

@Dannic2018 I grew up in East Boldon, South Tyneside! But I now live in Shropshire after moving to the midlands for Uni 7 years ago. All my family still live in the area 😊

suz2285 · 13/11/2023 08:48

@EL27 i had 2 measurement's exactly the same as yours and here that triggers a growth scan (as it's above the last solid black line) Growth scan says he's on the black line... so around 85-90th Centile. From asking around i'm told this is nonsense so i'm taking it with a pinch of salt. I'm dreading another measurement as I don't want any more scans/stress about it. Not a fan of fundal height at all!

@Mummyme87 I'm also planning to drive 3.5 hours away for a few days over Christmas, at 37 weeks also! But going to mums and she's a midwife, so taking the car seat/baby bags and hoping to not go into labour at her hospital, though I wouldn't be mad if I did, just logistically might be harder to get us all home!

Anyone else getting more uncomfy and heavier all of a sudden? my hips and back are achy and the other night I was having on and off crampy feelings, not sure if it was just constipation but I was panicking as I've got nothing in place still at work and I was just hoping it wasn't going to go anywhere. Which it didn't but gave me the fear to get my work in order this week, i've been procrastinating!

I also started and mostly finished my Christmas shopping so thats good 😂

Mummyme87 · 13/11/2023 09:02

@suz2285 yes I wouldn’t fancy driving 6hours down the A1/M1 with a few day old baby!! We will be travelling home at 37+4, and if any niggles prior we will just come back. It will be all fine I’m sure.

I’m starting to feel mildly more organised. Christmas presents starting to come together, although as usual, DH is a nightmare as he wants nothing. I can usually find something but when my mam and sister are asking for ideas it’s a challenge! The house is coming together bit by but also, also this weekend gone was our last full weekend when I’m not working and we don’t have plans before NY!!! I’m hoping that kicks DH in to action with the few bits which are solely his issue.

also sold a load of stuff on Vinted which is exciting. Once I have the cash, it will pay for my new sling and I’ll have some left over to go towards pram etc

suz2285 · 13/11/2023 09:40

@Mummyme87 same, we decided if any niggles or baby looking like early or anything we'll just stay home 😂 but I'm hoping not!

Me and DH don't do presents for each other which is easier as we both never want anything 😂 he sorts his fam and I sort mine... Vinted is fab for selling and buying! Most of my list has been baby stuff this year I don't want anything for myself at all!

TunnocksTCake · 13/11/2023 10:05

Another one who is nowhere near ready here 😅I moved in with my mum for 2 days this weekend so DH and his friend could decorate - decided (foolishly?) to do our bedroom at the same time. Came back Sunday and they had finished the little boys room which looks lovely but ours still needs another coat on 2 walls & the wardrobe did not come apart very well so stuff everywhere until we can put that back together safely! I slept in with DD who kept poking me in the eye and DH was on the sofa!! Hoping to get a quick coat on tonight then we can be back in our bed tomorrow. THEN I can finally start washing the baby bits. Not going to get a cot in there until he actually moves at 6ish months, so we can use it for guests / DH on bad nights until then.

Im feeling like this one will be early too and already decided im going nowhere in December! DH is taking DD to his family 2 hours away at the end of the month so I will have a nice peaceful weekend to myself :D

Ive had great success selling DDs stuff on Vinted but find its much better if you do little and often when you upload rather than a big batch all at once, keeps you on peoples feeds more I think. I think Ive made £100 altogether so far ans 2 bags still to go. Plus my maternity stuff Im growing out of!
