@MumDaisy1980 I'm still waiting 😔 23+6 got my midwife appointment on Friday so will get some more details hopefully and maybe an extra scan 🤞🏻

MumDaisy1980 · 26/12/2023 22:17

@chlo299 🤞🏻

CB23CB · 27/12/2023 17:37

@MumDaisy1980

I think I've finally started to feel a few kicks. 24 weeks now, midwife appointment next week at 25.
My first pregnancy too so I'm not 100% sure but I think it's finally moving around in there!

BuzzybeeMum · 27/12/2023 20:42

Hello, everyone! I’ve lurked for a long time so I thought I’d post and say hello. I’m 25 weeks + 2 - feeling regular movements and kicking so that’s nice ☺️
Has anyone started buying things for the baby yet? It’s my first baby and all I’ve bought so far is clothes and have had some kind hand-downs from family members. Hope you’re all well!

theodora2146 · 27/12/2023 21:19

MumDaisy1980 · 26/12/2023 21:50

hows everyone baby movement?

just that recently I would feel one side poking out a lot. Then calm down. then maybe move to lower abdominal and poked out. Then gone back in. Then sometimes as poke out as close to my stomach. And when press on the poked out part is harder than other parts.

I just wonder if it’s pretty common. I don’t feel pain or anything so won’t take it as any emergency needs.

It’s my first pregnancy so still exploring what’s all about!!

thsnks!!

22+1 and have a very active boy in my tummy 🥰

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 28/12/2023 05:01

@BuzzybeeMum we've started buying stuff now. I'm at 22+4 and we got the pram just before Xmas as it was on sale.

Got some clothes and bottles too and DPs sister is getting us the bassinet in a week or two.

Probably won't get much until February now when I'll get the feeding stuff (steriliser, breast pump) and then we'll just take it from there.

Not getting a proper cot until after she's here (getting next to me crib off MIL).

Thanks all!

@CB23CB what a good news!! Likewise that I aren’t sure too in the beginning. Takes time indeed.

@BuzzybeeMum thanks! …And not at all!! Didn’t buy any baby stuff. But research and bookmarking anything we like. Basically making a list and then the plan is to get all in one go in Feb.

@theodora2146 wonderful!

ZB86 · 28/12/2023 10:10

@chlo299 me too. I am 24+1. I called MAC yesterday and they sent me to antenatal unit where they checked heartbeat which was fine. They've referred me for a scan on Friday so hopefully that will provide some reassurance. Hope your appointment goes well x

chlo299 · 28/12/2023 10:12

@ZB86 oh that's good fingers crossed it goes well tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a referral for another scan tomorrow from the midwife x

SummerOak · 28/12/2023 18:03

@BuzzybeeMum Hi! I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and we only bought 3 outfits so far 😅
I was supposed to make a list of everything we need last week, but got sick so didn't. I'm hoping to get most of it by end of February.

I would love some recommendations on prams, that's my main worry that I'll get a wrong one. I don't need something big as we don't have a lot of space in our flat.

ASGIRC · 28/12/2023 19:33

@SummerOak There is no right or wrong... Prams are all about something that suits YOU and your lifestyle. Our reccs might not be good for you!

I got a cosatto pram, cause I love the colours. Its pretty big though, and would struggle to fit it in a small car boot. You need to go somewhere where you can look at prams and try them out! Its the best way!

Ive bought almost everything.
Big ticket items are all bought apart from the bed for the nursery.
I have loads of clothes, mostly from hand me downs, but some presents and a couple that I bought.
Ive started doing up the nursery.

Dont have bottles or anything of that kind yet. People are starting to ask me what I NEED and I have no idea, need to check what I have and make a list, and then distribute it!

Butterfliesandroses · 28/12/2023 20:17

@SummerOak my only advice regarding prams is to look into individual features that will benefit you and think longer term for your family if you plan to expand it. With our first we just got a pram we liked the look of and was a good price. With our second we realise that some really important features (to us) were missing on it including the ability to fold small with the seat still on the chassis. If you want to expand your family then you might want one that has the option to convert to a double, or one with a built in buggy board. We've had to buy a different pram this time so I'm keen to help others avoid our mistakes!

As for car seats, with our first we just got the one that came in the pram deal.. This time we know better and would recommend everyone checks the ADAC rating before buying a car seat if safety is important to you, too x

sugarplum33 · 28/12/2023 20:35

@SummerOak I agree with @Butterfliesandroses, it's one of the most expensive purchases you'll make for baby and it's worth really thinking about what you want from a pushchair. Ignore the lovely designs and patterns and fabrics as they won't matter if the practicalities of the pushchair drive you mad.

If you'll need carry the pushchair up stairs then look for something really lightweight. If you'll be using public transport then definitely something you can fold one handed whilst holding baby. If you'll be using a car more then you might want something you can attach a car seat to (although babies shouldn't be in car seats very long I did find this useful if quickly nipping into the shop with a sleeping baby in the car seat). If you plan to have two close in age then look for something that converts. If you or your partner are particularly short or tall then consider the handlebar height to ensure it's comfortable to push. Equally if you're tall and baby is likely to be too then consider the seat size and maximum weight so they don't outgrow it too early.

We have an uppababy vista which is fantastic and an absolute workhorse. Very big though so probably not practical for your needs. We bought a cheaper spare pushchair for travelling and the difference in pushing them is immense. Definitely try to go somewhere you can try them out but also read lots of reviews as swishing an empty pushchair around the smooth shop floor is very different to pushing a heavy toddler and bags over bumpy pavements.

BuzzybeeMum · 28/12/2023 21:51

This is so helpful, thank you! It makes me feel better knowing we’re exactly the same in terms of what we have. Really hoping to breastfeed but still think having the pump will be essential!

On the movement… my little girl has spates of moving around a lot and then not much activity during the day sometimes! It could just be that I don’t notice her moving around as much when I’m out and about and busy. I’ve just started to get big enough to move onto maternity trousers now, I think! 😂

Pinkstuffs · 28/12/2023 22:19

We’ve just started decorating the nursery but it needs quite a lot of work so starting early! My main problem is my DH is also mid-way through a kitchen renovation and I’m loathe to take his attention away from that as I’m not keen on having a newborn and no kitchen! We visited family over Christmas and MIL has bought loads of clothes, mainly in bigger sizes. I’m still unsure how much newborn and first size to get in case baby is big.

MumDaisy1980 · 29/12/2023 06:44

@sugarplum33 thanks for sharing! Such useful advice!

sweetdreams23 · 29/12/2023 11:26

@Pinkstuffs my daughter was pretty average weight at birth 7lb 7 and personally I found we got longer use out of newborn and 0-3 month stuff than we had anticipated. Think her dress for her first birthday was 6-9!! Personally I find baby clothes came up bigger than her age if that make sense! But until baby is here it’s so hard to tell so just have a mix of newborn and some 0-3 (they are surprisingly bigger than newborn)

Ttcmumma · 29/12/2023 12:53

It's so hard to say with baby clothes sizes, my son lasted about 2 weeks in newborn 🤣 he was 7lb at birth. Once he got to about 3 months old he was always 2 sizes bigger than his age. He is currently 5 and in 7-8 clothes. Skinny boy but very tall, big head hands and feet lol. A small variety of sizes I think is always best and lots of basic clothes like vests and baby grows x

sugarplum33 · 29/12/2023 13:26

@Pinkstuffs It's hard to know with clothes sizes until they're here. You could make a guess based on how big you and DH are now and your birth weights. If you're both fairly tall it's unlikely you'll have a tiny baby and vice versa but of course there are plenty of exceptions to that rule. My growth scans were predicting that DD would be huge and so we skipped buying newborn sizes and sure enough she was born a week early at nearly 9lb and didn't fit into anything newborn sized. She's consistently been 1-2 sizes ahead of her age ever since.

As @sweetdreams23 said there's a huge difference between newborn size and 0-3 and I doubt many newborns fit into 0-3 clothes straight away. Look out for 'up to 1 month' clothes which are in between these sizes and what my DD went straight into. Newborn size tends to be up to about 7.5 pounds whereas 0-1month tends to take you to around 9-10 pounds and more suitable for bigger newborns. 0-3 months is presumably onwards of 10 pounds which would be very big for a newborn.

It's also hard to know how many of each size to get. My DD was incredibly sicky and could easily go through 6+ full outfit changes a day whereas other babies might get a whole day out of one sleepsuit. I'd maybe start with around 5-10 sleepsuits and vests in each size and see how you get on. Thankfully baby clothes are fairly cheap and easy to get hold of so you can easily grab more if you need them. Don't go mad buying proper outfits in these first sizes, sleep suits are far easier and more comfortable in the first few weeks and months. I remember trying to dress newborn DD in a dress with buttons up the back and getting in a complete pickle trying to hold up her little floppy body whilst buttoning up her dress 🤣

SummerOak · 29/12/2023 17:36

@ASGIRC @Butterfliesandroses @sugarplum33 thanks for your answers, there's lots to think about when choosing the right pram for us. We'll definitely be going somewhere to try the prams in person. I'm hoping to find something with adjustable handlebar as I'm quite short but my husband is very tall.
Also good shout about the car seat, I was planning on getting it in a bundle, but might buy it separately if there's difference in how safe they are.

Mrsttcno1 · 29/12/2023 18:22

We have all our nursery furniture and pram ordered, due to arrive over the next couple of weeks so have spent all of yesterday and today painting the nursery ready. Crazy to think in just a few days we’ll all be able to say “we are going to have a baby this year”! Also if anyone hasn’t already looked, Next have a sale on baby/children’s clothes, we went to a store today and literally have got 25+ items for less than £75 so definitely worth a look! X

Hopefulfirstround · 29/12/2023 18:40

Anyone struck down with the flu ? I got vaccinated but i am so so so sick with it . Just trying to keep up fluids are resting . 27 weeks tomorrow , due on the 1st of April so only just about a member of this crew !!! I’m looking at nursery furniture , hoping to get a changing unit that I can just have as a chest of drawers and a cot that converts to a bed, anyone have any recommendations ?

Pinkstuffs · 29/12/2023 19:09

We bought a full Mamas and Papas nursery set for £70 on Facebook, just need to get a new mattress. It looks practically brand new, so quite pleased. Currently sitting in the garage until we get a new carpet down in babies room!

CB23CB · 29/12/2023 20:08

Ahhhh heartburn! Anyone else suffering, it's a new one for me!!
Any recommendations on what is safe to take? Might pop the pharmacy tomorrow!

Mrsttcno1 · 29/12/2023 20:45

I’m also suffering with it @CB23CB ! I don’t think I’ve had it more than maybe once in my entire life until the last 10 days ish when I have literally had it every single day and all through the night. If you find anything that actually works let me know because I have tried everything I can think of and nothing has touched the sides! X
