I’m asking this as I had a nasty 3rd degree tear last time and just not sure what to choose this time!!

Petris123 · 15/11/2023 10:55

Lovely @XenaTheWarriorPrincess , hows it going?

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 15/11/2023 11:00

Well I can safely say I do not like pregnancy @Petris123 😅

First trimester was awful, now dealing with total lack of stamina, migraines and the round ligament pain beginning. All is well with baby so far though. Had gender scan and it's a girl, picked out a name and actually starting to get excited now! Feels more real than it did before. Also I'm already bloody huge, probs because I was overweight before pregnancy and I'm short.

How have you been so far?

OP posts:
Petris123 · 15/11/2023 11:38

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess ha I don't like it either! I'm still feeling sick and have a lot of food/drink aversions, but no pains or significant migraines so far. But I'm dealing with anxiety (going to start a thread with a question if i work out how to do it 😅)
How have you already found out the gender? i need to wait for the next scan in December.
I'm quite big too, can't wear jeans anymore and struggling even with a pair of loose trousers i have 😅 so it def feels more real for me as well 😊
Are you keeping the name you picked a secret? Have you told all your family / friends yet?

Cora24601 · 15/11/2023 11:45

@Misty84 thank you! Congratulations on your little boy! It's so exciting! Aww it's nice to hear about your cake reveal as well! It's just what we are planning just close family and lots of tea and cake! Very excited to see everyone's reactions like you say! yep! Agreed, celebrating the shit out of it I totally encourage! It's all about the memories and enjoying it as much as you can (although the constant terror is still there 🙈) x

Cora24601 · 15/11/2023 12:03

@SummerOak It probably does depend on the sonographer but honestly just ask them if you need to 😊 Our hospital seems to only have the one sonographer so fingers crossed you have the same one and a fab experience! X

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 15/11/2023 12:09

@Petris123 I booked a private scan. One near me does gender scan from 14 weeks so I booked when I was 15+4, didn't want to wait for the anatomy scan and then nit even find out if baba wasn't cooperating. The private scan guaranteed an answer (they just rebook you if they're really struggling to get the images).

Told dp's mum the name and she'll probably pass it along to the rest of the family, I'll also be telling my dad when I see him. I don't imagine anyone will openly disagree with the name choice tbh, we don't really know anyone like that. And if they do I don't really care, we love the name and that's what matters.

I've already bought some maternity clothes as nothing was fitting anymore 😅

Sorry to hear about your anxiety struggles, it can be quite common in pregnancy (especially if you already had anxiety) but there is support and help out there if you talk it through with your midwife.

@Cora24601 @XenaTheWarriorPrincess It’s so nice knowing the gender and the name! I’ve told my family the name (when they asked). Definitely have anxiety and that’s completely down to previous failures. Trying to have faith that by this stage the odds are overwhelmingly on our side. It’s just very hard to trust that my body can do this right, finally!!

SummerOak · 15/11/2023 14:51

We'll know the gender next week. We have several names we really like if it's a girl, but we're struggling with boy names. And I think it's going to be a boy. There's also the issue with the name having to work in 2 languages 🤔

How did you all decide on a name?

Mrsttcno1 · 15/11/2023 15:14

We had a little gender reveal for our family last week with a cake, just at our house and it was lovely!

I was certain I was having a boy so we had a list of boys names and not a single girls name, so now we know she’s a girl we’ll have to start thinking🤣🤣

Petris123 · 15/11/2023 15:49

@SummerOak we're also struggling with boy names. And our names also have to work in 2 languages, the other one being Italian

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 15/11/2023 16:18

@SummerOak had a list started from when we started trying, went through it and vetoed any exes names, names that could have nicknames we really didn't like and just had a think about other names.

We started using different names to refer to baby, to see if anything felt right, it didn't.

Honestly, I was just sat drinking my morning coffee pondering names and it just came to me, told dp and he loved it too. Just felt right, like it felt like that just is her name.

We decided on Eleanor.

My top choices were alexandra and georgina but alexandra was dp exes name and I dislike Gina as a name so decided against georgina just in case.

SummerOak · 15/11/2023 16:30

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess that's some good ideas. Both of us just making lists and then vetoing them. But I'm hoping it just comes up to me one day and we both like it.

Eleanor is lovely name 🤗

@Petris123 we have to make it work in Croatian and English, it's a struggle. Maybe you'll have a girl and then it will be easier to choose.

Cora24601 · 15/11/2023 18:02

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess our girls name we had picked if baby was a girl was Eleanor! Lovely! 🩷 Are you going to shorten it if you don't mind me asking?

Cora24601 · 15/11/2023 18:03

@Mrsttcno1 aww beautiful! Just what we are planning! So looking forward to it 😊

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 15/11/2023 18:12

Most likely @Cora24601 but not decided on a nn yet. Ella, Ellie, el, nell, Nellie are all options. Just gonna wait and see what comes out my mouth when she's born 😅

Had a scan this week , almost 21 weeks:) not finding out the gender but baby is looking lovely and healthy , predicted birth weight in and around 7 and a half pounds . Anyone else ramping up (or trying to ) their anti stretch mark routine. I realise this is probably not avoidable but I’m trying to minimise as much as I can . I’m not usually someone who moisturised so starting from there 😂 starting to get back a lot of energy which is great ! I’m in the hunt for some nice maternity pants for work , any recommendations ? We got a buggie this week second hand so the excitement is building

Petris123 · 16/11/2023 10:59

@Hopefulfirstround there's an anti stretch mark routine? 😅 i better start reading up! 😂 I'm on the hunt for any trousers as i work from home and at the moment the only comfy things are pyjamas and 1 pair or loose joggers I got from Next 😊

SummerOak · 16/11/2023 10:59

Happy your scan went well @Hopefulfirstround 7 and a half pound baby doesn't sound too bad, sounds manageable 😁 I decided to order Fantastic Skin Elastic Serum from My Expert Midwife for the stretch marks, hopefully that does something. No idea for maternity work wear as I work for home and live in loungewear.

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 16/11/2023 11:05

I already have stretch marks @Hopefulfirstround from getting a bit podgy during covid, so not something I have to worry about thankfully 😅

I am on the lookout for a good soothing cream though as my stomach has started getting itchy now

OP posts:
Cora24601 · 16/11/2023 14:46

@Hopefulfirstround I'm still in that podgy, have you just eaten too much cake phase but I have been sporadically using bio oil and the palmers cream for stretch marks (it's got a pregnant lady on it) they seem to be quite highly rated affordable options. Once I start getting a proper belly il do on in the morning and one at night in the desperate attempt to curb the stretch marks. But honestly, I think genetically I'm doomed 😂

Bizjustgotreal · 16/11/2023 15:29

Stretch marks - I recommend bio oil. I'm using the bottle I bought from when I had DC1 still. Not a single mark.

Ttcmumma · 16/11/2023 16:10

With my son I just used extra of my usual cream on my belly twice a day. I use cocoa butter or something similar everyday anyway, didn't get a stretch mark on my belly, only on the sides of my bum/thighs but not much. Probably doing the same again this time and hope for the best though I'm 6 years older this time 😅

sweetdreams23 · 16/11/2023 16:56

Yes last time I just popped normal moisturiser on my tummy twice a day. Didn’t get a single stretch mark so am doing the same this time. :)

ASGIRC · 16/11/2023 19:27

As stretch marks are mostly genetic, when the times comes, I plan on just using my normal moisturiser as well, to help the skin!
I dont have a bump just yet, despite being 20 weeks.

I chose my name quite early on, and as soon as I found out I was having a girl, I shared it with any and everyone. I havent had one single bad comment about it. which is nice!
