@Lily124
Thanks for the reassurance! 💜
I don't think it helps that I've seen a different midwife every time I've been, there's surely a good chance they measure differently?
The midwife was lovely but totally panicked me when she phoned the hospital and told them she suspected 'Poly', then when she got off the phone she told me not to Google it and not to panic (which I wasn't up until that point) and I of course left the surgery and googled it in the car! 🙈🥺
I'm really hoping it's just down to inaccuracies, like your friend, as everything else has been fine so far 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Thank you so much! X

Ellora610 · 20/12/2023 19:12

@LeopardLover
Thank you so much!! You give me hope that it's probably just a measuring inaccuracy!! 🙏🏼 As you say, another great excuse to see baby again but I know I'll worry now, until I know everything is ok! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Thank you 💜 x

@Ellora610 Oh BTW, if a different midwife is measuring you every time I'd lean towards it being that! I had this once and they did it in a totally different way 🙈

P.S a friend had Polyhydramnios (picked up about 36 weeks) & there were zero negative implications, she just looked bigger. Perfectly healthy little girl 🥰

SJ456 · 20/12/2023 19:41

I’ve just been diagnosed with GD and genuinely so upset! I hate needles, actually struggle to bleed (poor circulation) and my diet has consisted of carbs!

has anyone else been diagnosed or had previously that can offer some advice?

SLB706 · 20/12/2023 19:53

Hi all, I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while and thought I’d finally join. Due with my first in March and it’s been quite a journey to get here, adding to the reasons why I’ve kept quiet!

SLB706 · 20/12/2023 19:57

@Ellora610 I didn’t want to read and run and thought I’d share my story. At my 24 week midwife appointment I was measuring 5-6 weeks ahead of where I should be. It wasn’t surprising given I’ve been big throughout and I’ve seen pics of other bumps at the same gestation as me and they’ve been much smaller! I went for my scan a few days later and baby was measuring on the 37th centile and there was no additional fluid, I just have a big bump! I had a follow up scan a week ago and baby is now on 50th centile and my bump only went up 1.5cm in 3 weeks. Try not to panic, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything!

@SJ456 hello not GD but I am diabetic, was given this.

@LeopardLover
Thank you! I hugely appreciate the reassurance, it's a comfort to know your friend had Polyhydramnios and still had a healthy baby! 🥰 xx

Thank you! I really appreciate the reassurance and am glad all is going well for you... it goes to show that the fundal measurement doesn't always mean a lot! I def feel calmer after reading everyone's positive replies!! 🙏🏼💜 xx

Ellora610 · 20/12/2023 20:28

@SJ456
I'm so sorry you're having a rough time. I've not had GD but I do understand needle phobias and having to have injections (we did IVF for almost a year). Honestly, I still really don't like needles, but the fear really does subside and it does get much easier. I'm not sure about use in pregnancy, but Emla cream can help if you're worried about pain and an ice pack can also numb the area. I'll keep my fingers crossed you can control it with diet and exercise though. Big hugs x

@Ellora610 just going to add to the comments around how inaccurate the measurements can be!

In my last pregnancy all my measurements plotted right in the middle and despite my saying I was expecting a larger baby (husband and I are both tall, I was over 9lbs and he was over 10lbs) my midwife was adamant my baby would be around 7lbs. I wasn’t even surprised when she was born 9lbs 8oz.

This time round I am measuring 2 weeks ahead (and carrying one extra fat) but nobody is concerned given DDs size.

@SJ456 hello not GD but I am diabetic, was given this.

Thanks - this is helpful to get started before I am seen in clinic! Slightly stressed about how to manage Christmas and all the treats/carbs

OhmygoshREALLY · 20/12/2023 23:43

@Ellora610 also just wanted to chip in and say don’t worry at all about the measurement. It might just be a dodgy measurement from the midwife, you might just have a big bump, but as someone said, the two reasons for measuring over are a big baby and lots of fluid (aka polyhydramnios, which is what the midwife was talking about when she said ‘poly’ - it’s just the posh word for it!). Neither are a huge issue, poly isn’t a problem at all (I work in maternity and see it all the time, just means you’ll have a flood when your waters break!). Big baby also not particularly a problem, plus the fact that scans are educated guesswork rather than gospel truths, so even if they think baby is big it a) might not even be true and b) won’t change much - they might offer you an induction at 40 weeks rather than letting you go over your dates, but you don’t have to take it - you have the right to decline induction (or anything else!) if you don’t feel it’s the right decision for you. But that’s a long way off so don’t worry about it now! And def don’t let it ruin your Christmas 💐

Busylizzie85 · 21/12/2023 10:15

Just had my 28 week appointment and I am also measuring ahead but the midwife was very good at explaining it's not an exact method and that my already booked growth scan will give me a better idea of the size of baby!
Baby is apparently laying breached across my tummy which does not help the measurements.

Glad your midwife was able to give you such a good explanation and hopefully all will be well on your growth scan

we now have extra scans due to GD so I’m looking forward to being able to see little only

WAC1 · 25/12/2023 11:20

Merry Christmas! I can't wait for the next one with baby and hopefully less indigestion 😂

macki · 25/12/2023 15:13

merry christmas everyone. hopefully your oven hasn’t packed in today like ours 😂 have a great day!

Hello, can anyone help me find the facebook group? All the previous links don’t work for me, they open my own facebook home page and nothing else.

KatY9876 · 30/12/2023 21:41

@Caroline88Cici sorry I'm clueless where to get link but I have asked on the chat for someone to help you. X

Caroline88Cici · 30/12/2023 21:57

Thank you @KatY9876 ❤️

Caroline88Cici · 31/12/2023 16:15

Thank you @glasspaw! That worked

PurpleSock · 03/01/2024 00:40

Hi, please can I join? I'm 31+5 and due 1st March

I had a midwife appointment between Christmas and New Year and fundal height measurement suggested static growth (unchanged from 3 weeks before) and measuring below 3rd percentile so was sent for a scan the next day.

Scan was a bit better with slightly bigger measurements but still put baby between 3rd and 10th percentile. I've been referred to a consultant and have another can next Thursday (so 2 weeks since the last one) but I can't get rid of the anxiety/nerves

Both my partner and I were big babies so I'm extra worried as this is unexpected

LeopardLover · 03/01/2024 08:58

@PurpleSock Welcome! My friend had a 2nd percentile baby who went up to 6th percentile and honestly he's the most clever little kid! No problems whatsoever now. I think she had issues with her cord / placenta but you'd never know to look at him, he's so advanced.

It's common to have bigger and smaller babies from the same parents. I appreciate it proper feels a bit scary but hoping the next scan provides a few more answers! P.S I'm 31+1 🩵

Hiddenvoice · 03/01/2024 09:40

@PurpleSock what a worry for you but it’s great they are scanning and checking!
I am petite and had a very large baby over the 97th percentile. When she was born she was 7lbs 5oz so not that big! It was just that she was big for me so if you’re tall it could be the baby is a good size but they work it off of your dimensions too.
