I’m so miserable today. Since my diabetes diagnosis my sugar levels are constantly high despite eating well, I’m hungry, I’m not sleeping and feel miserable at 10 more weeks of this.

Given up on the idea of a natural birth and think I’ll just opt for a c section. Really feel like all enjoyment of pregnancy has gone :( just want it over with. When I think back to last week I was so happy and relaxed and now everything is just crap.

Luhou · 06/10/2023 09:18

@Mushroo sorry you're feeling like that. I think it's a naff time anyway. I feel like I've beeb pregnant forever and am really achey and tired and still got a long time to go. Naturally starting to have anxieties about birth and babies arrival.

And I can only imagine your recent diagnosis adding to that.

Can you try throw yourself into something else? Sometimes I find keeping busy doesn't give me time to dwell.

Sorry not much supoort but just to say also feeling a bit bogged down.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/10/2023 09:22

@Mushroo I'm so sorry. It might be that you need insulin or metformin but your diabetes team will advise. Sometimes there's little you can do with diet when the hormones get high (into the 30 weeks) and it gets beyond that. Are your fasting levels okay?

You've got time on the birthing plan decision, and whichever you decide will be a positive birthing experience I'm sure.

Flossiepot · 06/10/2023 09:30

@Mushroo - Sorry no help as I have no experience and don't have my test for a couple of weeks but really hope you're ok xx

Mushroo · 06/10/2023 09:52

Thanks all - I think not dwelling is good advice, going to try and get out and about this weekend to cheer up!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my fasting levels this morning (first time doing them) were slightly over (5.4 when should be below 5.3) so I suspect medication is coming my way 😩

Just needed a moan really, this thread is so nice to just let everything out.

Also suspect I’ll now be having a December baby, so need to buy some ‘my first Xmas’ stuff!

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 09:54

Morning all,

How is everyone?

@Mushroo sorry to hear about the diabetes, hopefully you can find some way to enjoy pregnancy again :(

Onedayatatime24 · 06/10/2023 09:57

@Mushroo sorry to hear you're feeling miserable! I keep trying to think everything is a phase and nothing lasts, doesn't help when I'm super grumpy but does sometimes. Just think in a couple of months you'll have baby in your arms.

Went for my scan this morning as was measuring very big on Monday with the measuring tape. Baby is growing perfectly and actually a little smaller than average (39th percentile) so just goes to show how inaccurate the tape can be. 🤦‍♀️ Nice to see baby again though!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/10/2023 10:08

@Mushroo see that's exciting! Your baby could be here in two months 😍

I think it's just daunting when you're trying to get to grips with a new situation. In a couple of weeks you'll be a pro, and it won't feel like such a stressful faff.

@cossie13 all good here thank you, about to go on holiday this weekend for some sun. I reckon I'll get GD again at my next test so I need to get my travel in now before I'm grounded from flying.

How are you?

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 10:23

@Onedayatatime24 measuring is awful. How tall are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 4ft 11in and every single time i had bump measured it was 90th centile and same in scans too. They kept telling me baby was heading on to be 10-11lb!! Both of mine ended up being under 8lb so I don't trust a word they say about my size anymore 😂

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Oooo how exciting! Are you off to anywhere nice? I'm starting to feel like I need a break but it's just money we don't have at the minute. Might see if I can convince OH a weekend away in this country would be nice! Things are a touch stressful at the moment but I'm plodding along 😊

Luhou · 06/10/2023 10:49

@Mushroo buying first Christmas stuff is exciting. So much cute stuff around but currently no reason to think we won't be January.

If you feel up to it perhaps make a little shopping date over the weekend? Go pick a couple of bits. Might cheer you up a bit!

Onedayatatime24 · 06/10/2023 11:10

@cossie13 I'm 5'4 and overweight but carry all of my weight on my stomach so I think bump was always going to measure big just because I have a big stomach anyway! They said as I'm having growth scans anyway to not let the community midwife measure with the tape again as it'll just flag up and it's really not needed as scans will be much more accurate for me. Just seems a weird way to measure when bumps can be so many different shapes/sizes, even on 'normal' weight people!

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 11:16

@Onedayatatime24 I wish they'd say for me not to be measured by tape! 😂Silver linings though, with regular growth scans, you'll see baby much more often! I had ICP last pregnancy and I was in every week hooked up to the monitor listening to her heartbeat and it made everything so easy to deal with ❤

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 11:17

@Luhou this is a GREAT idea!! I do love baby shopping! Think of all the cute christmassy things you'll be able to get @Mushroo

suz2285 · 06/10/2023 11:28

@Mushroo your numbers for fasting are only slightly over, don't panic too much yet it takes a while to settle down and see what might have an effect on the sugars but the beginning is absolutely overwhelming and just another thing to worry about which does suck! I'd be exactly the same and worried about my test in a few weeks as like you said it'll maybe change birthing plans etc, they won't want baby out asap so if no other issues they'll be trying to keep them in there as long as possible! So it might not be before Xmas, when are you due?

@Luhou I've been feeling the same the last few days, yesterday I just did f all and cried a lot, feel a bit better today! Like you I'm starting to be a bit anxious about what the birth might be like! Where as before I was quite chill about it 🙈 and also anxious about how it'll change everything and what it'll look like for us next year! I'm already feeling lonely and thinking about how I'm gonna meet people near me so I don't spent mat leave miserable!

@Onedayatatime24 blooming tape measure, hate them 😂🙈 so irritating!

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 11:36

@suz2285 thinking about what you just said about feeling lonely, I don't think people realise how lonely a time pregnancy is. It's definitely worth perhaps trying to find a bump and baby group near you if there is one? They've all gone in my area 😭

I think I've asked before so forgive me if I have, but where is everyone from? Is anyone due to have their baby in Telford?

Luhou · 06/10/2023 11:44

Regarding lonliness, I think you've just got to try and keep busy. Obviously recover, and enjoy baby at home. But then try find baby groups etc. My now best friend I met after I was feeling crap one day and needing to get out the house, so went to soft play one morning just me and DD and we bonded over a coffee, been best friende ever since.

Redpanda21 · 06/10/2023 11:51

Back from my appointment with the consultant regarding my abnormal uterine Doppler readings and high BP in pregnancy.
There’s a 50% chance of growth restriction which would be the main concern as baby might need to come out but might not depending on growth curve. Goal is to get to 37 weeks.
High BP leading to pre eclampsia could be helped with tablets so less of a worry as having fortnightly checks.
Everything will be closely monitored and I’ll have growth scans at 28, 32, 36 and 39 weeks. I will see someone after each growth scan so plans can be updated if needs be.
So really a see how things go over the next couple of growth scans kind of situation.

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 11:52

@Luhou That's so lovely! I met my friend through one of those groups and our boys are now 8, in the same class at school and still really good friends!!

Mushroo · 06/10/2023 11:52

Thanks all! I had my normal midwife appointment this morning and I feel a bit better. She said we can go through it all at 36 weeks regarding birth choices, but no reason I can’t be midwife led unit if sugars are good so see how we go.

@Luhou shopping is a great idea, luckily I feel fine so can have a nice day out.

@suz2285 my post breakfast reading was good so I’m hoping im getting the hang of it / on the right track now. Due date is 1 Jan so pre Xmas very feasible haha.

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 11:53

@Redpanda21 Oh wow, that's intense but really good you're being closely monitored

suz2285 · 06/10/2023 11:59

@cossie13 yeah there's lots of groups here actually, our nhs classes are all online still which is annoying! But i hope we get a chance to talk to people from those? I also joined a webpage and sent a few emails to local mums but no replies yet so I dunno if anyone even uses it! There's a local mums fb page too but it seems to be all adverts and no one actually talking about anything useful 😂

I don't have many friends as it is and those I do have all had their kids ages ago and are permanently busy 😂 but I do have some pals who are retired or work part time so I can go see them maybe!

@Redpanda21 hope you're doing ok, glad they're keeping an eye on it though!

@Mushroo wow, 1st Jan, so yeah might be Christmas after all! I'm glad midwife helped and that you're getting your head around it all 😘

@Luhou That's so lovely! I met my friend through one of those groups and our boys are now 8, in the same class at school and still really good friends!!

So nice, I never felt like before that I had a best friend just circles of friende She'll now be my go to for having DD overnight when I go into hopsital this time!

I did also have a lot of "mum friends" who friendships fizzled out with after maternity leave. But I see that as just one of those things.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 06/10/2023 12:16

I really liked Bump and Baby also, there's a real social element to it and they create a WhatsApp group. With my first, anyone who was free met up on a specific day of the week. So for cafe, pub, picnic, baby class, art gallery etc. Drop in so no effort.

I joined up again for this baby, just for the social side. Otherwise all my friends will be at work, so it's nice to have a group of people to meet up with. And also chat to about any issues, want advice, swap baby clothes and nappies and toys etc that don't work for our children

MrsJ6921 · 06/10/2023 12:18

@cossie13 I’m due to give birth in Telford 😊

cossie13 · 06/10/2023 12:38

@suz2285 that's so good that you do have a lot of those groups! I'm absolutely gutted there's nothing near me anymore.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Bump & baby was amazing, I even did a paediatric first aid course through them! Groups are a god send. I'm absolutely signing up for baby sensory again, it's not overly cheap but I found it 100% worth it

@MrsJ6921 Aaaah I remember asking now! It seems so long ago! How strange would it be if we ended up in there at the same time??
