@Clueless13 thank you

I haven’t done a hospital bag yet but as I’m almost 23 weeks and my daughter arrived @ 25 I probably should. Though I’m hoping to get much further this time!

I hadn’t been buying anything due to nerves but I did buy a nappy changing bag in the Amazon Prime day yesterday.
I still have a lot of stuff from my daughter but again, out of fear of jinxing anything I’ve not gone through it yet. Though a lot of it will be redundant since I’m having a boy

Total power to everyone who's buying baby stuff and packing their hospital bag. Just wondering if anyone else like me hasn't bought anything at all for baby yet?

I've been super anxious about buying anything in case I jinx it so the only thing I have is a bedside crib I got a good deal on from FB, but I don't even have a mattress for it. I've not got any clothes, bottles, hospital stuff for me. No carseat, no pram. I've not started decorating the nursery either. I'm now 22+5 and panicking that there's not enough time.

Anyone else done nothing or do I really need to get over myself and buy some stuff?

Kelb79 · 12/10/2023 11:13

Eeek! I hadn’t even started to think about hospital bag!! I’m so disorganised, I’ve hardly thought about the birth (I think I’m putting it right at the back of my mind out of total fear 🤣🫣)
I guess I really need to start getting my shit together 😳
I’ve spent so long just crossing my fingers tightly that this pregnancy even carries on that I haven’t made plans for when it does 🫣🫣 im 21 weeks today and I still can’t believe it!! 😳😳😳
is anyone else still in this place??

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/10/2023 11:18

You have so much time. I didn't buy anything until 30 weeks plus last time out of fear of jinxing. Probably won't do it again this time - things arrive so quickly. Plus you need a fraction of the stuff they recommend! So we waited u til baby was here for a lot of it (outside of pram, cot, car seat)

Mangotango39 · 12/10/2023 11:19

Oh ladies it's so tough
I don't think you can jinx anything but I get that thinking - it's such an anxious time.

I am prepping quite a lot now as we are going to be super busy november/December and have visitors staying with us for 6 weeks!!!!! So by the time January rolls around I guess I'll be knackered!

I think just do what works for you and what your comfortable with, we are all different after all and like in general life, some people are planners, organisers, some more go with the flow! 😆

amyg1985 · 12/10/2023 11:20

I'm in the same place @LavenderSweetPea and @Kelb79 - not quite ready to buy stuff yet. It's been a long time TTC for me and my husband, and finally got there with IVF. Don't quite believe it's real and don't want to curse it by buying baby stuff. We'll get there - there's always next day delivery!

LavenderSweetPea · 12/10/2023 11:34

Thanks ladies, glad to hear it's not just me. Totally feel what your saying @amyg1985 I think going through infertility makes it hard to really believe this journey ends in a baby. DH and I started trying over two years ago now, we didn't get anywhere except an ectopic with ovulation induction and we were waiting to start IVF when I finally fell pregnant. I just can't really get my head round the fact maybe it's actually happening.

Cheetocat · 12/10/2023 11:43

I can't believe it's real either. Last year I got pregnant first try on valentines day and had a MMC at 11 weeks, it really rocked us but as soon as AF was back we started trying again using ovulation tests. I'll be honest, it was very stressful and caused tension between us, we didn't want to give up and then I finally fell pregnant again at the end of May after a whole year. I'm still in shock that it's real and that my son is moving around in there. I don't think it has set in yet that I'll actually get to hold him in my arms in a few months. We haven't made any preparations or bought anything at all yet and I don't know when we will. Maybe we should start soon.

DmcinT · 12/10/2023 12:28

Same as a few others I haven’t bought one thing yet. I’d a MC in April this year so Im similar to others, I just can’t picture this ending in a baby. I hate that those experiences kind of rob you of the excitement. There’s still ppl I haven’t told yet as I constantly feel like I’m going to jinx it.

I do think I need to start realising that a baby is possible in Jan/feb and start getting things organised. Im lucky that I’m the last of my family to have kids so everyone has so much equipment to give me, I just need to go through all the stuff and pick out what I’ll use. The hospital bag I will prob leave until Jan though

Mummapenguin20 · 12/10/2023 12:43

Sorry if I’ve made anyone feel uncomfortable with all my planning and buying ect, my mum died in March I found out I was pregnant in June and instead of greiving I threw myself into buying Christmas and baby stuff that and my second baby was a premie so I just wanted everything sorted just incase xx

LavenderSweetPea · 12/10/2023 13:22

@Mummapenguin20 you've got nothing to apologise for! It's incredibly sensible to get organised. As @Mangotango39 has said, we all just have to do this stuff at a pace that makes sense for us.

Also sorry about the loss of your mum 😥 that must be hard

Mummapenguin20 · 12/10/2023 13:26

@LavenderSweetPea thank you it’s been a tough year xx

OP posts:
Kelb79 · 12/10/2023 15:23

@Mummapenguin20 absolutely!! Definitely don’t apologise 🙏🏼❤️😘
I actually need people who are more organised than me and who’ve done this before to help me know what to do next so thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️

@amyg1985 @LavenderSweetPea @Cheetocat @DmcinT Yep… me too… IVF, MC and 4 years TTC makes it so hard to believe and enjoy the experience ☹️ but every ligule wriggle and kick is cementing my faith a little more ❤️❤️❤️❤️ big love to you all xxxx

Cheetocat · 12/10/2023 15:27

@Mummapenguin20 I think preparation is great, we all feel ready at different times x

I think once I hit that 24 week milestone things are going to ramp up and I'll begin preparing.

Mummapenguin20 · 12/10/2023 15:30

I think for me having a plan makes it real, gunna do my baby clothes shopping in a few weeks pram I’ll order in January xx

Hayley0203 · 12/10/2023 15:59

I haven't done any prep at all, but I also moved house 4 weeks before my first baby was born so quite used to the chaos haha - we didn't even have or use a nursery for quite a few months! My baby slept in a NextToMe thing so she basically lived in our room for 6+ months

CheeseAndCrackersx · 12/10/2023 16:21

The only big thing we have currently is the travel cot type thing with a changing unit attached to the top of it.
I really liked that idea cos I currently live in a 1 bed flat so he won't have a nursery just yet so his nappy changes would probably happen in the living room and I didn't want to get a Moses basket for him to lay in either so best of both worlds really for that.
My partners mum bought that for us. But that's in a box in the cupboard till jan :)

I still need to get his bedside crib, carrier and bath seat. Which won't be till about December.

My mums getting the pram in January.
It's her first grandchild so she's wanted to buy that. And she's bought his bottles etc.

My Nan used to make up like a basket of baby essentials when other family members had babies so my mums doing similar for me as sadly my nan is no longer here to do so for me.

I've bought clothes, I bought those after 12 weeks and I couldn't wait to buy boy stuff after we found out. I'm mostly buying from Asda and Morrisons as lovely stuff and good prices. But he still needs a lot more like a coat etc.
and I can't decide if I have his coming home outfit or not yet 🤣

novamama · 12/10/2023 16:43

@LavanderSweetPea I also haven't really started. First baby item I bought was this weekend as hubby and I found the cutest come home outfit so we just could not resist.

However, as I read a several books about pregnancy and labour, watched videos and things, I ended up buying a Frida labour kit (it was on offer at boots), so I suppose I made a start for me but not for baby.

Thank you to everyone who wrote about their choices of car seats and prams. I also didn't know John Lewis advisory sessions were a thing, so we booked that and hopefully it will clear some overwhelm!

Ihatewinding · 12/10/2023 17:10

I'm starting to make a list, though have a lot of stuff from first baby that we need to go through.

Basically doing the list then will go through it when it's Black Friday sales on as seems a good time in terms of not too early, not too late, and hopefully get some stuff on sale!

I don't think we got the pram until I was 31 weeks last time. I do recommend trying prams out first as I'm short (and weak) and the super discounted expensive prams with good suspension, etc. were just too bulky and heavy for me to wield comfortably. So ended up going for a less bells and whistles pram but one I could actually push properly 😅 even if it didn't look as amazing and not 800 quid off haha.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/10/2023 17:38

@Mummapenguin20 I'm so sorry to hear about your mum

Mummapenguin20 · 12/10/2023 17:58

I honestly belive mum sent this baby in her last weeks chatting I told her no more babies for me and she whole heartily laughed…. At her wake my uncle said never say never. 3 months later and we stood and laughed at the test 🤣 xxx

Is anyone else planning on bottle feeding?

I haven't discussed this with my midwife yet and she was really judgemental about me declining vaccinations during pregnancy so I'm guessing there will be more of that to come when she finds out I'm not breastfeeding.
