Question about meat.... my family are cooking roast beef today and cooking the beef medium.

I'm 8+6 and normally that would be fine with me but I know you have to be careful in pregnancy, I'm also not telling the family until my 12 week scan 🤦🏻‍♀️

Is medium cooked beef safe to eat?

hopefulmum46 · 24/09/2023 09:34

@theodora2146 it would be better to have it well done, there is a risk from toxoplasmosis from rare beef, not sure whether medium would be cooked enough to kill it.
Could you ask for the slices at the end of the joint? They'll be more well done than that in the middle.

sugarplum33 · 24/09/2023 10:26

@theodora2146 Tricky one as I would agree that medium probably isn't cooked to a high enough temperature to eliminate the risk. Will it be plated up for you or do you serve yourself? It's a good idea trying to get the end bits as they're likely to be more well done. If not maybe plate up loads of veggies and sides and then offer your beef at the end to your DP saying you're too stuffed to eat any more. Such a shame though with a lovely bit of roast beef 😋

Heya! I wouldn't worry too much about this: I work in food and you'd be surprised just how rare beef would have to be to not register 65°C on a thermometer (the temp where almost all bacteria are killed off). Unless you're in a fancy restaurant where they really go for a rare medium, most home cooked roasts would be well above the safe temp even if they look a little pink. If you're worried just go for the edge pieces and try to reserve the end bit!

sugarplum33 · 24/09/2023 12:09

@SeasideSunshineSussex That's reassuring, I assumed it had to be nearly incinerated!

theodora2146 · 24/09/2023 13:03

Thanks for the advise everyone! I've asked for the edge pieces, hopefully they don't cotton on 🫣

theodora2146 · 25/09/2023 09:39

Turns out the beef was over cooked anyway 😂 saved 😅

sugarplum33 · 25/09/2023 10:53

@theodora2146 The only time you've been relieved to see a piece of overdone beef! 🤣

Hello! I'm due on April Fools Day Grin

Is there a group chat or Facebook group?

I'm 12+6 and had my scan this past week - is anyone good at guessing nub theory?

congratulations! Here's the link to the fb fb.me/g/p_tP1KfVKJmn4dfoqE/dpi6ax1C

theodora2146 · 25/09/2023 16:28

Nausea and heartburn is literally the worst combo 😣

I'm trying to eat healthy but the thought of eating fresh veg such as broccoli which is my favorite is really off putting. I use to eat almost 2 heads of broccoli a week now I'm lucky if I get one portion 😅

Mrsttcno1 · 25/09/2023 17:07

@theodora2146 I’m exactly the same, I used to eat loads of fruit & veg, easily 5 a day. Now I have an apple & grapes for breakfast, and then sometimes manage some veg with tea. But currently typing this while waiting for my mcdonalds order to arrive 🤣 salty food is the only thing I really fancy atm, even my usual favourite meals like pasta bake, risotto I don’t fancy! X

I've been having smoothies and some fruit and yogurt at breakfast, trying to be better with lunch and go for veggie soups with bread and butter but then the afternoon lag hits, nauseous, tired, heartburn, and all I want is salty stuff as well 😂

Misty84 · 25/09/2023 18:00

@Mrsttcno1 Ive been having McDonald’s cravings and temptation stares me in the face every day as I walk past one coming home from work!🤦‍♀️ I’ve succumbed 3 times so far 😛 Oh and I ordered Dominos on Saturday. Usually I’m pretty healthy but salty food is sooo what I fancy at the moment! Ps. Your usual favourites are my usual favourites too😂

Pinkstuffs · 25/09/2023 20:04

Does anyone find their sickness peaks in the evening and not the morning? By 6pm I’m feeling nauseous and by 7.30pm I’m crawling up to bed, that’s where I am right now, laying still and trying not to vomit 😂

Yep, mine often peaks late afternoon or evening. Apparently it's more like to occur early in the day, but to be honest I think it should be called "pregnancy sickness", not "morning sickness"!

sugarplum33 · 26/09/2023 06:37

@Pinkstuffs Yep mine is worse later in the day, in fact first thing in the morning is the best time of the day for me.

@Poppins2016 I think medical terms are starting to catch up, when I was doing some reading I saw a lot of references to 'pregnancy sickness' and a new term I hadn't seen before- NVM (nausea and vomiting of pregnancy). I think it's really important language around it starts to change as if you've never experienced it then it's easy to think that it's just feeling a bit peaky or being sick upon waking then you feel fine. In reality it's very often feeling rough all day, every day and even that is fairly mild in comparison to what some experience. I do wonder if men had to go through pregnancy and keep on top of their job, raising older children, maintaining the house etc that medication would be much more effective and readily prescribed! It really is punishing and even though this pregnancy has been far easier than my first I've still found myself in tears multiple times because I'm just so drained by feeling icky and constantly having to eat crap food to feel a bit better, it feels like a mission getting through the day sometimes.

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 09:23

Does anyone else have like stretching/very light aches in the bottom of their tummy/pelvis? I wouldn’t say it’s a pain, and not all the time, I’m aware everything is stretching down there so don’t want to be a drama queen and ring the midwife, but is this normal? X

Yes I've been getting this, it's not like period cramps and I'm not bleeding so I've tried not to worry and put it down to stretching.

I have a private scan later so hopefully all is still well, I'm 9 weeks today.

Ek21 · 26/09/2023 09:45

Hi all, I know I am prob being silly, but is it ok to take paracetamol for a headache? I am 11 weeks now and woke with a headache at 3am and it hasn't eased at all. I don't want to take pain killers unless I have to, but this headache is really bothering me. Anyone else had this and took paracetamol??

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 09:48

@theodora2146 I’m glad to hear it’s normal then! I had a scan on Friday last week and all fine, and also no bleeding, so I think it is just stretching I’m just a worrier! Good luck for your scan today🤍xxx

@Ek21 Yes you can take paracetamol for a headache no problem! I checked this with my midwife at my booking app, paracetamol is actually the recommended first choice pain killer for pregnant women. She said to avoid ibuprofen though xx

Ek21 · 26/09/2023 10:20

@Mrsttcno1 thank you! I am due my first appt next week so it's great to get that reassurance from your appointment!

hopefulmum46 · 26/09/2023 13:10

@Ek21 yes, paracetamol is fine in pregnancy but avoid nsaids such as ibuprofen/naproxen/aspirin (unless prescribed low dose aspirin by a doctor)

Yes I’ve had this since the start of my pregnancy, I find it reassuring! Like things are happening in there 😂 My 7 and 9 week scans were fine, and I’m 11.5 weeks now if that helps lessen your worry!

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2023 14:01

That’s amazing @Misty84 thank you! I’ve had scans at 7+3 and 9+4 and both were fine, I’m 10+2 now so not long until my nhs scan! Now that you’ve said that I think it is reassuring actually, it definitely feels like something is stretching down there! X

Misty84 · 26/09/2023 18:04

That’s great @Mrsttcno1😊 So excited for the 12 week scan and hopefully finally starting to believe that this is really gonna happen!
