Hey all 😊

When did you all announce your pregnancies on social media? And what was your reason for doing so at that time?

Thanks so much!

25 weeks and still haven't yet. Think about it a lot but just can't quite bring myself to do it! Not sure why, it's very much a wanted baby but we suffered the loss of our first at Xmas and I didn't post about that so now don't want to be the person that only posts the 'good' updates... if you know what I mean.

MariaVT65 · 03/08/2023 13:52

Maybe not helpful, but social media doesn’t know my child exists, so never! Partly because of family issues I have, but mostly because I don’t post much on fb, and anyone who is in my life would be told by call/whatsapp/in person anyway.

My friends have been a mix of no announcement until birth, or announcing at the 12 week scan.

Congrats :)

olderthanyouthink · 03/08/2023 13:54

Never, announced the births though. There's just not photos of the bump but photos of me from behind or boobs up etc

mymeatballsmymeatballs · 03/08/2023 13:54

I posted mine at 12 weeks. I considered waiting longer but I was excited so I just did it. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer though, just personal preference.

Pollywoddles · 03/08/2023 13:56

I didn’t, I didn’t see the need. Those who I’m close to knew, those who I’m only ‘Facebook friends’ with don’t know I even have a child.

JenniferBarkley · 03/08/2023 13:58

I didn't, but I don't use it much. I posted an announcement a few days after they were born, and then photos maybe once or twice a year.

It's very personal though, and I was delighted to see an announcement from a friend at 12 weeks recently.

massivesalads · 03/08/2023 14:00

I didn't announce it with ds1 I just uploaded a photo of me with a 7 month bump which gave it away 😂 currently 12 weeks and hadn't really thought about social media, Just telling people I know as I see them.

ShadowPuppets · 03/08/2023 14:05

You'll get a lot of people saying they didn't but my SM is quite locked down to friends and it made sense to 'announce' on there.

First pregnancy - announced at 12 weeks, purely out of excitement! Glad I did as we went into lockdown a couple of weeks later so I'd have missed the boat for F2F annoucements if I'd waited anyway.
Second pregnancy - announced at about 15 weeks as part of a 'merry christmas from our family (which will be slightly bigger next year)' sort of thing.

SparkyBlue · 03/08/2023 14:10

I never announced a pregnancy on social media. I did announce the births though.

SockQueen · 03/08/2023 14:14

Never, because when we struggled to conceive, pregnancy announcements were the most painful thing on SM.

I think with #1, DH mentioned something in a post of his when I was about 32 weeks. Don't think we ever properly "announced" #2 on SM. There may have been photos of me with a bump, but not a proper bump photoshoot or anything. Both times posted after the birth.

Whataretheodds · 03/08/2023 14:17

I'm not planning to, and all my SM settings are private.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 03/08/2023 14:19

I never did and didn't post a birth announcement either. Plus, I don't do social media. Family and friends aren't allowed to post pics of the kids either or mention them.

QuinnofHearts · 03/08/2023 14:19

When she was 2 days old!

Merrz · 03/08/2023 14:19

I never did, until baby is here and well you can't take anything for granted. I was too scared to announce it so publicly incase something went wrong, think how painful it would be EVERYONE asking about your pregnancy/baby

Summermeadowflowers · 03/08/2023 14:20

I knew hardly anyone would 😂

20 weeks for me.

DuploTrain · 03/08/2023 14:20

I didn’t exactly - I did a post about starting maternity leave and that was it.

evtheria · 03/08/2023 14:21

I didn't, I just one day posted a pic of baby wrapped up, maybe 2 months down the line.

ChoresSuck · 03/08/2023 14:27

On social media alone no one knew I was pregnant.

mumtotwox · 03/08/2023 14:30

At 12 weeks both times and will do the same again 😊

Nottodaty · 03/08/2023 14:32

I didnt. People who I wanted to know we told.

TakeMe2Insanity · 03/08/2023 14:32

When the baby was born!

mimoo1 · 03/08/2023 14:33

I think I posted something when I was 12 weeks with my first. I didn't bother second time round.

Emmamoo89 · 03/08/2023 14:33

After the 12 week scan x

PurpleChrayne · 03/08/2023 14:34

Never.

So vulgar and attention-seeking.

flowerchop · 03/08/2023 14:34

About 31 weeks - I'm a teacher and I put some last day pics up and said "let the mat leave begin" and everyone who didn't know was like whaaaat. I find it too awkward to directly announce it so had to be blatantly subtle 😂
