Just got my bfp yesterday and EDD is early April 2024. Anyone else similar and feel like keeping each other company?

@Frankos

Errrr don't know, not having this problem but porridge normally helps soften things for me

15th week before the baby is due.... so 25 weeks pregnant so a bit over 5 months? Possibly sensible to do it before then but you don't have to. I told I think at about 12 weeks with one and a few weeks later with the second.

I work in a special needs school with some children that have some dangerous behaviours so I was thinking of telling them sooner so I can put a risk assessment in place. Do you think it’s a good idea?

Stripes22 · 19/08/2023 08:01

Hi all! I’ve read through, currently 14 dpo and due 27th April!!!!! Already got a toddler who is almost 2. Line progression is going good so far! Only symptoms are being really really hungry and weeing all the time! Last pregnancy I had really bad sickness from 7 weeks until I got antisickness tabs at 15 weeks! Hoping and praying the sickness isn’t too bad this time 🙈

CinderRosie · 19/08/2023 08:02

@Frankos I am also suffering with constipation. I tried a YouTube constipation yoga video last night (I avoided some of the moves which I wasn’t sure if suitable in pregnancy) and also ate some dried apricots. I think the video must have worked as - TMI - things moved on about an hour after 😂

Bugdem123 · 19/08/2023 08:14

Hey everyone, I've been MIA this week, hope you're all doing okay.

@Frankos I've also had this. I've found increasing my fluids and my fibre to be quite helpful so I'm having bran flakes for breakfast , I've also made a bean stew that seems to work quite well and I've been guzzling litres of water but I'm definitely still not going as normal even with all that!

I have already told my work so I could time off for my appointments and incase i started to feel sick and they wondered what was going on. I've only told my immediate line manager and asked her not to tell anyone else. We also have a baby loss policy so I thought it would be good for her to know in advance in case things go wrong.

The tiredness is definitely the worst symptom for me so far, feel like a zombie. I cried to my husband last night as I went to bed at 9pm as I felt like I've hardly seen him.

I've also started feeling a bit yuck the past few days. Definitely not as much as nausea but definitely not normal either. A bit of me pleased as I "feel" pregnant now haha.

Hope you all have a good weekend x

Frankos · 19/08/2023 07:34

Two things:

  1. I need your constipation remedies, I really can’t cope with once every few days…
  2. at how many weeks do you tell your workplace?

thanks!!

@Frankos I usually find prunes rather effective (although I'm currently on iron tablets and the combination of that plus pregnancy hormones means that my GP has prescribed me something stronger... yet to find out whether it helps as it's early days)!

I was about 14 weeks when I told work with my first, 15/16 weeks with my second (ideally I wanted to wait longer but it didn't work out for various reasons) and with this one I think in going to aim for 20 weeks + if I can get away with it (different workplace and I don't want them finding out yet for various reasons... thankfully I seem to carry small and loose clothing will help to cover it up)!
I think the key thing with the "telling work strategy" is to consider what you'd say to your boss/colleagues if something went wrong with the pregnancy (hence waiting until after the 12 week scan in my case as I wouldn't want people knowing about a first trimester miscarriage), plus the impact it may have on your short and long term career.

Poppins2016 · 19/08/2023 08:20

@Frankos just saw your other post about your workplace... in your shoes I'd tell a trusted manager and ask for the risk assessment, that sounds very sensible. I'd also ask them to keep it confidential from other staff until after the first trimester (or whatever you're comfortable with).

olderthanyouthink · 19/08/2023 08:24

@Frankos baby will still be tucked inside your pelvis for a while so quite safe for now but yeah I'd probably go with telling them on the earlier side so long as you don't think they'll be arseholes somehow about it or something

theodora2146 · 19/08/2023 08:30

Thank you @Iamcatmum fingers crossed for you too xx

sugarplum33 · 19/08/2023 08:45

@SurreyPsych I'm so intrigued what your job is! It's good you can work from home after a while, that will make a big difference, especially cutting out your commute. But you'll make it work because mums are superheroes and always make things work! I'm a teacher too so curious about your husband's plans. Is he in effect returning from parental leave for the holidays and then restarting it in September?

@faban The sleeping bunnies is genius! I woke up again at 3 so think I'll be employing that tactic today haha.

@Anonmurph What a brilliant but unexpected surprise! They will just date you from your last period and then adjust that date once you've had a scan.

@Frankos Prunes always worked for DD when she was bunged up. You can get the baby food pouches of just puréed prunes which are cheap and would be fine for adults. Are you making sure you're drinking plenty and your diet has plenty of fibre? Best to try to prevent it before it becomes an issue if you can. If your workplace is inherently risky I would be telling your employer ASAP. I work in mainstream so extreme behaviours are less prevalent but still happen and my team knew early and made sure I was never dealing with the risky situations. I still got booted in the stomach at one point but you need to keep yourself as safe as you can!

@Stripes22 Congratulations!

SurreyPsych · 19/08/2023 08:57

Welcome and hello @Anonmurph and @Stripes22

@Frankos I’d tell them as soon as you feel comfortable. Good idea to do the risk assessment.

@sugarplum33 my husband’s school has no HR over the summer (which I find strange because surely the support staff are all still working and may need assistance…) in September we’ll see whether this is possible, but if he is on shared parental leave between May and January, I hope that means he will have accrued leave for May half term, summer, October and Christmas (approx 10 weeks). He won’t have been paid his salary during this time, he will be on the lower rate of SPP so fingers crossed (if this plan works) he can then take his 10 weeks of accrued leave plus Feb half term, which means he will be back on full pay January to mid March. Maybe. I hope so 😁

SurreyPsych · 19/08/2023 08:58

How are you today @CinderRosie ?

PigPug · 19/08/2023 10:18

Yesterday I was posted about horrifically sore boobs, tears and nausea occasionally but today I feel nothing. Boobs feel less swollen. Hard not to worry but worrying won't help anything! I know symptoms come and go.

sugarplum33 · 19/08/2023 10:39

@SurreyPsych Is he in a state school? I've never heard of accruing holiday like that in state schools but it could be very different in academies and independent schools. Ten weeks paid holiday would be amazing though and you'll need to let me know if HR have positive news and there's a holiday hack I'm missing out on!

@PigPug Symptoms can definitely come and go, I remember a lull last time before they really ramped up again. My boobs are only a little sore at 5+0 today and my only other symptom is insomnia. Try not to worry.

olderthanyouthink · 19/08/2023 10:54

@faban re sleeping bunnies: I fell asleep on the sofa this morning with DC2 floating about being an toddler far too early and then woke to him trying to mop up the wee he'd done on the sofa and the duvet I was using 😩 I dont recommend actually sleeping!

CinderRosie · 19/08/2023 11:10

@SurreyPsych I’m good so far today thank you. Just completed parkrun again, I took it nice and easy as it’s very warm today. How is your nausea?

SurreyPsych · 19/08/2023 12:00

Blimey @CinderRosie! You seriously put me to shame :( glad you’re feeling well. Nausea was unbearable yesterday, but today I’m managing. Still not showered and ready but managing to work on the sofa, so I’ll take that :)

@sugarplum33 oh no! You’re probably right. How unfair. So, if you take mat leave as a teacher you just lose the annual leave? I suppose it’s different working term time Vs actually having 13 wks annual leave entitlement.

WanderingthroughWildflowers · 19/08/2023 12:07

Hi everyone 😃I'm a complete newbie to Mumsnet, but thought I would pop in here and say hi as I'm currently 15 dpo and due 26th April 2023, all being well! It will be my first and I have no idea what to expect! I'm sure I can learn a lot here, especially from those of you for whom it's not your first! So far I have no symptoms apart from an excited/nervous fluttery feeling, but I think that's just psychological 😂I hope everyone is keeping well xx

WanderingthroughWildflowers · 19/08/2023 12:12

Oops, meant 2024! xx

CinderRosie · 19/08/2023 12:17

@SurreyPsych don’t worry I was really slow and had to keep walking instead. I’m paying for it now though I need to clean the house as have family over later but I cba! Glad you’re feeling a bit more ok today.

@WanderingthroughWildflowers welcome and congratulations 😊

WolfMother326 · 19/08/2023 12:25

Hello all may I join? I'm on another similar thread and recognise some of you from there. I'm 5 weeks today. I have a 2 year old DS. Delighted and nervous to be pregnant again!

CinderRosie · 19/08/2023 12:48

@WolfMother326 I recognise your name from one of the ‘waiting to TTC’ threads! Congratulations, I am also 5 weeks today.

Christmascrazyalways · 19/08/2023 12:50

Hi all!! I’ve been away from this thread for a while - I am 7 weeks 3 days today!

I caved and had an early scan at 6 weeks 1 day… everything ok so far but had 2 MC at 7 and a half weeks so can’t relax until then.

The sickness is next level, with my DD I felt absolutely fine until 7 weeks when I couldn’t get out of bed until week 12. No sick just a horrendous nausea feeling whereas this time round this nausea has hit from day 1 - it’s not as bad as DD but it’s soooo draining. A constant hangover with none of the fun!!

hope everyone else is doing ok x

WolfMother326 · 19/08/2023 13:13

Hey @CinderRosie nice to reconnect, congratulations. Glad we've both managed to make it to this point. How are you feeling?

Sangels267 · 19/08/2023 13:16

Hello Again! I was 6w yesterday, had a scan on Thursday due to some bleeding/spotting and we could see the heartbeat.

I've tried to join the Facebook's group but my request is always declined 😔
