@Luhou I had some diarrhea around 6-8 weeks but I was told it was due to the muscles in digestive tract relaxing. Don't have much problem now.

Regarding the mat leave, I was told by my HR that my mat leave can't start before delivery. So if I need to take time off it has to be from annual leave. For those starting mat leave before due date, is it your company policy to let you start mat leave sooner? I already WFH so I am not too worried of going in labour at work. But I had hoped to not work 1-2 weeks before the due date.

Mummyme87 · 29/07/2023 09:09

@MrsSBG is that in the UK? I don’t believe that is correct. https://www.acas.org.uk/your-maternity-leave-pay-and-other-rights it happens in the US because they have minimal mat leave if any at all.

thought my vomiting had settled, but woke up this morning and vommed, the nausea immediately settled though so not all bad. 16weeks today.

In Center Parcs this weekend, so got to try and fit in to my swimming costume shortly 😬

@Luhou the pin prick is maybe just heat rash from the bath? If you’re feeling otherwise well and you’re still having diarrhoea on Monday call the GP, they may take a stool sample. If it’s a lot maybe get some diarolyte to keep your electrolytes up

Luhou · 29/07/2023 09:23

Thanks @Mummyme87. I'm feeling better now and rash has gone so thinking it probably was a heat rash.

Enjoy centre parcs. I squeezed into a swimming costume last week only to bump unto my work colleague at the swimming pool 🙈 (this was before I'd announced too)

EL27 · 29/07/2023 09:27

@buckingmad thank you, that's a relief, I want longer off with the baby but financially don't know if it will work so it's good to have options if I want to go back to work earlier 😊

@Luhou no I have had the opposite problem (constipation) 😬 having an upset stomach isn't nice though!

I'm not sure about the rash have you used any new products in the bath that could've caused a reaction? If it lasts a while or is itchy I'd call your GP just to check.

Inmydreams88 · 29/07/2023 09:42

I’m due 3rd of Jan, but I’ll probably be taking my maternity from the 6th November. I have a 40 min commute either way and I know I won’t want to be driving that far in the dark nights. I can’t work from home unfortunately or I might have worked till Christmas. I won’t be returning to work afterwards anyway so it won’t really matter. I will use the time to get the babies room ready and get everything sorted.

Flossiepot · 29/07/2023 09:44

Gosh I've missed so much in 24 hours. I was just under the idea I would work right to the end but you're all definitely making me think now. 🙈
Hope you're all doing ok!
Gender scan tomorrow for us 🥰 Can't wait!

PartRadish · 29/07/2023 09:53

Just had our gender scan to confirm nipt results. Still a baby girl! 💗

I woke up in the night for a wee and it was a bit stingy/uncomfortable. Still is now so just trying to work out who best to ring, midwife or 111? Assuming I'll need a sample dipping and antibiotics?!

lilluce95 · 29/07/2023 10:11

@Flossiepot I work from home so I'm thinking about working all the way until the end 😊 it's personal preference really!

My partner only gets 1 week paternity too so that sucks. He's currently saving up his annual leave though to take some additional time off which is sweet.

No idea how long I'm going to have off work! Thinking between 6-9 months and maybe going back 4 days a week instead of 5

lilluce95 · 29/07/2023 10:11

Congrats on all the gender results too! So many girls 🥰🩷

lilluce95 · 29/07/2023 10:12

@PartRadish I'd probably ring 111 and they may tell you to drop a urine sample off at the hospital x

MrsSBG · 29/07/2023 10:31

@Mummyme87 I am in the UK and funnily enough my US counterparts can start their mat leave upto 4 weeks before their due date.
Thanks for the link. I will bring it up with my HR.

sashastuck · 29/07/2023 10:50

@PartRadish aww delighted for you!💕

Matildahoney · 29/07/2023 11:05

I'm due the 4th and plan to finish for Christmas around the 20th or whatever the closest Fri is to it.

Ttcdcno1 · 29/07/2023 11:57

Had our gender scan this morning and we’re having a boy 💙over the moon there’s so many girls in the family on both sides

@MrsSBG You can take maternity leave earlier than the birth at my work although it’s a personal choice. There’s a limited number of weeks you can take before but can’t remember what they are. It does seem rare to not allow someone to take it earlier.

Mummyme87 · 29/07/2023 12:48

@MrsSBG you are definitely allowed to take it earlier, it is the law.

sashastuck · 29/07/2023 15:12

@Ttcdcno1 another boy woohoo! Congratulations 💙💙

Ttcdcno1 · 29/07/2023 15:20

@sashastuck thanks! So excited🥰 feels so nice to be able to say he and him rather than baby and it 😂

OP posts:
Kalodin · 29/07/2023 15:24

Congratulations @Ttcdcno1 💙

If you can get hold of MWs this weekend maybe go through them first, if not do give 111 a call, best to nip any infection in the bud isn't it @PartRadish Hope it passes quickly

That's definitely not right @MrsSBG Are you in the UK? With DS1 I took my maternity leave at 36 weeks (ended up giving birth at 37wks)

My plan for maternity leave this time;

This time I'm really hoping to make it till 38 weeks at work, I'd rather work as late as possible. Hopefully mat leave can start 15th January. Although I think work will pressure me to leave work before Christmas.

Hoping to go back Mid-september. That way I'll be around to do childcare for 6 weeks holiday and can be there for DS3's first few days starting school.

Bims2019 · 29/07/2023 15:52

Congratulations @Ttcdcno1!

With mat leave I'm hoping to finish before Christmas at around 37/38 weeks. Then a bit unsure about how much time to take, financially I think we could manage a year off if I can save enough but the last couple of months unpaid might be a bit of a stretch. I don't want to miss out on the time with baby though as won't get that back...

Might be speaking too soon but ladies, think I might have finally had some of that second trimester glow at 17+4! Woke up today feeling good after the first decent sleep in ages, then had the energy for a nice long walk in the sunshine. I'm sure it won't last long but enjoying it while it lasts 😂 and of course now I'm also worrying that I have even less symptoms than before.

sashastuck · 29/07/2023 16:03

@Bims2019 don’t worry! From the research I’ve been doing it’s completely normal and expected. There’s a reason why they say it’s best to travel in the second trimester etc.

I’m glad I’m not the only one worrying about potentially taking the year off. I’m not great at saving but I really don’t want to regret not having those extra few months with my baby. It’s so tough!

Does anyone know if when you stop working at a school in July, they pay you over the summer hols? I’m going to assume they won’t? Trying to work out what would be best for leaving/finding a new school etc after Mat leave is finished.

Bims2019 · 29/07/2023 16:20

Thanks @sashastuck, I know you're right and I should just enjoy feeling that elusive glow! Speaking of travel, is anyone planning on going away on a 'babymoon' or holiday before babe arrives? We have a friend's wedding abroad at the end of August, then are trying to fit in a week away just the two of us in Sept/Oct before third trimester comes around.

You're definitely not the only one on the mat leave, it's a difficult decision to make! And there's also nursery spaces to consider which is blowing my mind a bit.

Dannic2018 · 29/07/2023 16:46

How much caffeine are you all having a day please ? Absolutely knackered today 🥱

Ttcdcno1 · 29/07/2023 16:52

@sashastuck it depends, are you a teacher or a ta?
if you don’t return to the job after Mat leave, you won’t qualify for all of OMP so think it depends if you’re in the same council but that could get quite complicated if you’re wanting to start at a new school. Sorry if that’s a bit garbled, hard when you only know some of the facts if that makes sense.
