@buckingmad congrats 👏 💖

My blood pressure was also a bit low when I last got it checked. I've always had normal blood pressure and definitely noticing a difference with lightheaded and dizziness. 😵‍💫

EL27 · 28/07/2023 16:29

Also been thinking about this today... When are you all planning on going on maternity leave and for how long?

I know it may still be quite early to decide but I genuinely have no idea about it as a first time mum. Help! 😅

buckingmad · 28/07/2023 16:42

@EL27 with first I had loads of holiday so went off at 34 weeks (gave birth at 39) but mat leave didn’t technically start until my 38th week. I took 9 months off and went back part time.

This time round I’m planning on working until Christmas (due 9th jan) so 38 weeks again. I work in tax so lead up to jan is our crazy busy time and I feel bad going off any earlier. Depending on how I feel I might do the odd day between Christmas and new year. And will take 9 months again. I’m contemplating taking the 3 extra months unpaid as DH goes off with work for 6 months literally as I’d go back to work. More likely I’ll see if work will let me go back wfh or maybe use holiday to phase going back. I’ll go back 3 days a week like I do now. DH was making noises about me going back 4 days but absolutely no way am I adding to my workload plus 2 children, dog, cat, horse and house to sort whilst he swans off for 6 months 😂

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/07/2023 16:43

@EL27 If I’m allowed to work from home for the last month I’m going to work up to a week before c-section. I’m probably going to be on maternity leave for 10 months.

Hummusanddipdip · 28/07/2023 16:47

I'm planning on not returning for too long after the Christmas hols, I'm due on the 16th, so am thinking if I go back for the inset days and maybe 1 or 2 school days.

I was bullied throughout my last pregnancy, posted a lot about it under another username and ended up taking 4 weeks holiday before starting mat leave at 28 weeks. Ds came at 37 weeks so technically was only on mat for 5 weeks.

Luhou · 28/07/2023 17:36

Congrats @buckingmad 💕

Work colleague has called their baby name, the baby name I had picked out (they didn't know this) obviously I don't own the name but can't help but be a bit dissapointed 😔

LozzieLoo · 28/07/2023 17:39

I’m planning to go on maternity after the Christmas holidays (due 18th Jan) but use my holiday allowance towards the end and go back in September as it’s the start of the new academic year as I work in a uni and DP will be back to work after the 6 weeks as he’s a teacher.

Does anyone else’s OHs only get 2 weeks paternity leave? I’m a bit concerned as it seems like no time at all to then be left with a new baby (our first)!

Hummusanddipdip · 28/07/2023 17:52

Yup @LozzieLoo dh took 2 weeks holiday at the back end so was home for 4 weeks then went back to work which was helpful. I think he plans to do the same this time.
Tbh, although it is a daunting prospect, a newborn is pretty straightforward to look after, they cry, they feed, you change them and they sleep. Obviously some babies can be a bit more complex with their needs, but for the most part, the first 3 months can be pretty repetitive and easy needs to fulfil.

youaremysunshine03 · 28/07/2023 18:10

We had a scan today too and are also having another girl 💕 DD is really excited and we are too!

My placenta is anterior again like my last pregnancy though which I’m pretty gutted about. Was really hoping I wouldn’t have that again.

Dannic2018 · 28/07/2023 18:31

@youaremysunshine03 I found out that mines anterior again which I was slightly gutted about too. I can’t remember when I felt my son move last time if I’m honest

RG9895 · 28/07/2023 18:36

@buckingmad congratulations 💕

@EL27 I'm due 9th Jan and Im starting my mat leave on Christmas Day and will be coming back early to mid Dec the following year ☺️

My husband will only be taking a week off work as hes self employed but will work from home a few days a week!

@youaremysunshine03 congratulations!! So many of us with girls ☺️

I also have an anterior placenta, bit gutted as at my 12 week it was posterior so heres to hoping it could move again! If not as long as bubba is healthy then thats all that matters

Onedayatatime24 · 28/07/2023 18:56

I'm planning on working until about a week before I'm due (depending on how I feel but I do a desk job and can wfh if needed) and taking 12 months off. Saving lots and lots at the minute to cover bills etc. as I only get statutory mat pay. Really anxious about not getting paid anything in those last 3 months but it's our first and I'd love to have as much time with them as possible.

Hoping I can use my holidays for the first 6 months I'm back to do 4 days a week but get full pay. Then I'll probably have to go back 5 days which I want to as I enjoy my job and don't want to miss out of progressing my career but am already worrying about missing so much of baby/toddler time! Already feel guilty about it and they're not even here yet 🤦‍♀️

MrsJ6921 · 28/07/2023 19:06

I’m going off from 15th December. I’m due 5th January however I’m a Police Officer (CID without exposing myself too much) so it’s one way to get Christmas off 😂. All jokes aside I’m on a fast track two year programme so I can’t really take anymore than 6/7 months off. I don’t feel too guilty as she’ll grow up seeing a hard working mum doing what I believe is a very rewarding and important job and also I work 6 days on and have 4 days rest so I’ll not miss too much.

sashastuck · 28/07/2023 19:44

@youaremysunshine03 congratulations on your little girl 💕 so many girls so far!

I’m planning to work up until the end of term (21st Dec), due on the 4th Jan. People I’ve told think I’m mad but I really don’t want the Christmas holidays to be used as part of my mat leave. The problem is I drive 3 hours a day, I work quite far. So that is probably going to become an issue in the third trimester 😢 do you think it would make sense to get the train when I get further along? Will shave off about half an hour travel time and there’ll be more people around if any problems occured or anything.

sashastuck · 28/07/2023 19:46

Oh forgot to add the detail that my mat leave will then start the day after baby is born, as he’s due during the holidays. If he comes late, I’ll start my mat leave from the 8th which I think is the last day of the hols! A bit cheeky

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/07/2023 20:25

@LozzieLoo My husband only had two weeks paternity for our first pregnancy but he was able to use annual leave to make it up to five which really make a difference. You’re right that two weeks isn’t very long.

Mummyme87 · 28/07/2023 20:42

I’ve got about 2 1/2weeks annual leave to take still so will start that around 11th December and may leave will be 18th maybe. And due 13th Jan, but will be induced week before. So not much mat leave before baby is born

LozzieLoo · 28/07/2023 20:53

@ThomasinaLivesHere I’m lucky in that I’ll have family who can support but 2 weeks will fly over! DP is a teacher so I don’t think there’s any flex in the 2 weeks available.

Mummyme87 · 28/07/2023 21:08

2 weeks just isn’t enough, I think OH will do 2weeks then my mam now retired will come down, then maybe he can take a week annual leave

LittleAlien24 · 28/07/2023 21:18

Congrats to everyone who found out the gender
Im a stay at home diy mum (trying to fix the house up 😁) so luckily don't have to worry about maternity leave etc OH was planning on coming home after Christmas and going back around beginning of February but now while im pregnant he's coming home for Christmas and said will see how im feeling after my csection. If needed he'll stay home February as well. Plus I've my then 17 and 18 year olds here as well who can help

youaremysunshine03 · 28/07/2023 21:56

I’m thinking of taking annual leave in the run up to Christmas if I have any then start mat leave on the 27th when I’ll be 38 weeks. My DD came at 38 weeks so hoping this one doesn’t come that early too!

FirstT1meMum · 28/07/2023 22:18

My plan is to work up to the Christmas hols if possible so think my last day in school would be the 22nd Dec (due 7th Jan). Then would plan to return Jan 2025 so have a year. That's the hope anyway!! I think DH also only gets two weeks as standard which is annoying but he works from home 3 days a week so knowing he will be in the house is helpful!

EL27 · 29/07/2023 00:39

Thanks really helpful to hear what all your plans are!

I'm due 5th January and my job is quite physically demanding, busy and stressful over the Christmas period, so I think I'm going to try and take as much annual leave as I can in december then start maternity at around 38 weeks.

Does anyone know if once you have put your plan in to place, you can change it? For example if I say I want the full 52 weeks off but then decide want to come back sooner is this possible or is it like set in stone?

buckingmad · 29/07/2023 06:37

@EL27 no you can change it. I think they need something like 8 weeks notice officially but eg I think if you wanted to come back sooner, no employer is going to say no! Might be more difficult if you wanted to have longer so I’d maybe say you want the full year and then half way through if you’re sure then say you’d like to come back earlier.

Luhou · 29/07/2023 08:17

Anybody struggling with diahrea? I feel like the last two mornings I've woke up with awful awful stomach cramps and an upset stomach. After being poorly this morning I've got in the bath. (Reasonably warm but not mega hot one) and now I've come up in a pin prick rash all over, do you think I should be concerned?
