Uh oh , I think I got a crier... I'm hoping he will settle once my milk comes in 😳

BMK · 03/08/2023 12:06

@DomesticElf oh no I hope you haven't: that was my last baby and it was rough...however he had a tongue tie and couldn't feed properly but joone noticed for 3 weeks and I think the crying was from being constantly hungry or with wind and this affected sleep cycles and so I had a problem with not sleeping for a lonng time from that.. unlikely it's the same but just in case!! Hopefully he settles. I remember though the ward being relatively quiet and my baby wanted to constantly be picked up/fed or would cry the place down. I kept missing my meals and couldn't sleep myself with him..

@Paintandpots no no no- that's not OK. You cannot be minding a toddler by yourself when all you're fit for is sleeping, resting and not much else. Is your husband without option or without engaged understanding/being caveman??
Forget cleaning flat as baby will only ever be in cot, basket or your arms etc for next few weeks/months and the cleaning will take care of itself in due course- to thy mother's with thee immediately and crawl into bed!!!

RGxo13 · 03/08/2023 12:20

Congrats @DomesticElf ! 💙

we’re finally home! I’m waiting for my milk to come in too. Feeling a bit useless as partner keeps rushing for formula bottles as he’s convinced baby isn’t getting enough from breast/colostrum. Know he is just concerned but I’m worried about babies tummy stretching and not really standing a chance at breastfeeding.

RGxo13 · 03/08/2023 12:44

Wanted to add that the peri bottle has been an absolute life saver and also lactulose has helped me finally go to the toilet today. I was so worried that my womb was going to fall out but can confirm that it didn’t haha!

Amme18 · 03/08/2023 16:36

Agree with @RGxo13 peri bottle has been invaluable - kept my stitches lovely and clean and soothing too! Use it every toilet trip. Also has first poo and was fine!

@RGxo13 just remind him babies tummy is tiny! Google for an imaging, I’m sure it’s like grape size!

Spiralout · 03/08/2023 18:03

@DomesticElf oh no! Hopefully he will settle once your milk is in. Mine has been a bit fussy the last day or do as my milk has come in, the midwife reckons his digestive system getting used to the change from colostrum. 🤞🏻

BCxx · 03/08/2023 18:32

Made my first attempt at getting some colostrum out today and not a single drop to be found. It definitely adds a less relaxing element to it when you’ve got a toddler pulling things out of drawers and throwing things at the same time. My plan was just to see if I could get even a tiny drop out then start trying to collect it from Monday for 10 days when there was maybe a more substantial amount there to collect but things aren’t looking great 😬 going to have to rewatch all the videos

BMK · 03/08/2023 21:46

@Amme18 when did you have the baby??

Amme18 · 04/08/2023 07:01

Amme18 · 30/07/2023 19:58

Baby Eliza born at 7.07 this morning at 39+2 afte my second sweep yesterday! ❤️ It was a ridiculously quick labour which my body knows about! Contractions started at 2.45am, went into hospital at 6.15am and was pushing at 7am.
FYI for anybody that wasn’t aware you can tear forwards too 🤢
8lb 9 and both doing well, hopefully home in the next hour or so! Had to stay 12 hours as had meconium in the waters.
Breastfeeding like a champ! Xx

@BMK Sunday! Had to go back and check I’d definitely shared the news 🤣 We’re getting so many births now it’s hard to keep up! Xxx

BMK · 04/08/2023 07:14

Oh sorry- I had actually read that but not sure I processed it long-term! We were both due today I think ! Thry turned my baby successfully on Wed and was discharged yday only for my waters to go an hour later and back in since, however contractions which started, stopped ; really frustrating!!

HRSC · 04/08/2023 08:16

@BMK good luck! Hope the contractions return and you have your baby safely in your arms soon! 💖

sommeliermama · 04/08/2023 08:47

@BCxx I got almost nothing on my first three goes, the tiniest little speck of something wet but not enough to try to syringe. But the past few days I've gotten a little bit!

It's very slow to come out, honestly I have to try for an hour plus and only get 0.1 to 0.2ml in one sitting. So it is an effort and might not be easy with a toddler running around!

BCxx · 04/08/2023 08:49

@sommeliermama glad it is eventually working for you now. I’m going to try each day in the bath and try all the different techniques and see if I get anywhere with it. I keep seeing people’s pictures/videos with bags full of syringes and wonder how on earth they’ve managed it 🙈

sommeliermama · 04/08/2023 09:45

@BCxx I'm so jealous when I see that people can fill a whole syringe or several syringes in a session. Seems impossible right now!

I have found that keeping a hot water bottle on the other breast to keep it warm helps a bit, lots of massage, and also I have to squeeze down on the nipple for a couple of seconds to really get anything out (which I've not seen recommended in any videos). Think it just takes a bit of time to find your technique, and I'm sure the closer you get to labour the more you can get out.

Keep going with it, I've got my fingers crossed for you it happens soon!

BCxx · 04/08/2023 11:59

@sommeliermama I think this is the same as what happened to me last time and I did eventually get single drops after a shower but when I put them in a syringe I didn’t ever end up with enough to actually save so thought I’d have a few trial runs first this time! I only managed any last time while I was still warm after a shower or bath but will try the hot water bottle too

HRSC · 04/08/2023 16:38

Has anyone had a CTG or non-stress test before? I have a vague idea of what it entails but interested to know if there are others who have had it done and what it was like. I’m to have one on Monday

Recoba · 04/08/2023 17:19

@HRSC I think CTG is what you get when you go in for reduced movements? So stretchy straps around your tummy and then monitors placed on them (the straps hold the monitors in place) which monitor baby's heartbeat and a button to press whenever they move?

They get a continuous track of the heart rate of baby which comes out of the machine next to the bed (and pushing the button for movement should associate with an increased heart rate as baby moves).

I generally take a book, as there's nothing else to do and you can't move (and they want to see a continuous record for a long time, so if baby moves too much they have to reposition the monitor)! Also a drink and snacks.

But not sure if that's what you mean! Hope yours goes well on Monday.

HRSC · 04/08/2023 18:17

Thanks, @Recoba at my last doctors appointment, at 34wks, my dr said that I’d have this test before the next appointment (Mondays one, at 37wks). I sort of forgot about it but the clinic rang earlier to confirm Mondays appointment and said to come 20mins earlier to have the CTG test before seeing the dr. My baby is a real wriggler and I haven’t (touch wood) had to go in for concerns over reduced movements yet during my pregnancy. Was just wondering what the test would be about.
Thanks for letting me know what will happen. I’ll bring my book (not that I have had any concentration to read recently - have the concentration span of a gnat these days!)

BMK · 04/08/2023 19:07

@HRSC I have had one a day at least for last 3 days and about 8 last week. It is literally nothing except a graph that's generated on a screen of the baby's heart rate and it can also measure contractions.. it's really nothing! Just a small circular monitor on your tummy over where baby's heartbeat is. A second one can be put to measure any contractions

BMK · 04/08/2023 19:08

@DomesticElf any joy re reduced crying!?

HRSC · 04/08/2023 19:47

Thanks @BMK ! That’s great to know 😊

JT2021 · 04/08/2023 23:07

Hi everyone - fantastic to hear so many babies have been born! 💝Hope all new mums are recovering well and can’t wait to hear about all the incoming babies too!

I’ve been pretty quiet on here as it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster week… I’m currently being induced so I’ll definitely be meeting baby some time soon which is exciting!

I had a funny turn earlier in the week which led to 13 hours of being stuck in A&E (would NOT recommend!) and still not much further forward with what actually happened. Umpteen blood tests later and there’s something wrong with my liver. Hence why I’m being induced - they’ve gone between a few different diagnoses but as I’ve not had any other symptoms of anything, I think it’s something to do with cholestasis? Tbh they’ve said so many things to me, I can’t actually remember much of what was said! 😩

Really hoping baby is born safely this weekend! Anyone else gone through induction and any tips to get through it?

BCxx · 04/08/2023 23:24

@JT2021 sorry to hear you haven’t been well, hopefully whatever it is either sorts itself out when you’re no longer pregnant or they can treat it quickly. Good luck and enjoy meeting baby 😊

BCxx · 04/08/2023 23:28

Colostrum harvesting attempt 2 tonight in the bath.. decided I wasn’t putting any pressure on myself to actually save any of it and I just wanted to see if any would come out. I was at it A WHILE but I managed to get 0.3ml in total, drop by tiny drop! I think I’m going to try it twice a day, if I end up producing a lot I think il maybe get the haaka collection things since you can do them with one hand. I was noticing just as I got the technique right and started getting some out I would have to drop or the drop would run down me and be gone so being able to collect with one hand would be a lot easier
