Thanks all - I'll stick to the urine tests and hopefully won't get GD as have none of the risk factors.
I do have a serious sweet tooth though during this pregnancy!
I can't wait for my husband to by able to feel the kicks, I feel a bit bad about it all going on inside me and he isn't able to experience it yet.

smldnlove · 17/08/2023 13:51

@ThomasinaLivesHere Yeah definitely worth telling them so at the very least they can get your maternity cover sorted and you’re not having to work too hard near the time!! That’s what spurred me on haha.

it’s wild isn’t it! Time really has flown by! I thought pregnancy would drag but maybe that’s 3rd trimester?

Beans1982 · 17/08/2023 15:00

I think I'm due to get the glucose test as well due to my age and history of diabetes in the family.

Possibly a bit of a random one, but has anyone else noticed the colour of their belly button change? or their skin feeling more sensitive than usual?
I've noticed my belly button has become darker over the last couple of days along with some mild muscle ache on the left side of my bump, and skin is sensitive to touch.

SMG1992 · 17/08/2023 15:37

Some people in my office have got covid!
I'm in a separate office with only 2 people but am now feeling very anxious. I can't keep myself stuck away for the next 17 weeks!

99SR · 17/08/2023 15:43

@SMG1992 if it’s any help I have covid atm and thankfully was only bad for one day! Feel like I’ve just got the cold now. Midwife not concerned at all and I can still feel baby kicking away. So don’t worry if you do get it!

SMG1992 · 17/08/2023 16:04

@99SR Thanks that's good to hear.
I'm all up to date with jabs too and had my most recent in January this year so I really hope I'll be OK.
Just another thing to worry about - who'd have thought we'd still be worrying about covid over 3 years later!

Mushroo · 17/08/2023 16:10

@SMG1992 I know! All this talk of a new strain is worrying me a bit. I really don’t want face masks to come back in hospitals.

Definitely going to get the booster.

NoodleQueen90 · 17/08/2023 16:42

Quite a lot of people I know have covid just now so it's definitely doing the rounds again. Some of them are vaccinated and some aren't but all have just had mild cases. I'm obviously avoiding contact with anyone who knowingly has it or is unwell in any way but not changing anything else or going out less.
I've not had any of the covid vaccines so I'm not going to get it whilst pregnant but will get whooping cough one at my next midwife appointment and probably flu vaccine when offered.

VillageFete · 17/08/2023 23:03

I saw the Covid vaccine was being offered at my hospital for pregnant women today, along with flu and whooping cough vaccinations. I won’t be getting the Covid vaccine, but it looks like it’s definitely an option. I’m fully vaxxed and boosted so hope that helps somewhat.

I was given my C section date today - Wednesday 6th December. Feels so very real now.

Has anyone else been given there’s? It seems quite early to know to me!

NoodleQueen90 · 18/08/2023 06:20

Oh that's exciting to have a date @VillageFete. I'm planning a vaginal birth if possible and the not knowing when it might be and how it will go is hard 😂 due 13th December but for some reason I just feel like I'll go earlier than that, I've felt like that from the start.
The covid vaccines were being heavily pushed on pregnant women up until earlier this year. I have a close family member who works in healthcare with pregnant women and she was so uncomfortable with how it was being pushed. They have definitely relaxed now, it's still offered but no big deal at all if you choose not to get it.

Nclktnntt · 18/08/2023 08:13

Does anyone get a really firm section of their tummy where baby is but not the whole thing? I.e. today, sitting on the sofa, relaxed and the mid front and slightly to the right, super firm, but the left, squishy. Sometimes it's one side and not the other.

I've obviously not pushed hard, I'm thinking maybe it's where baby has moved too. Its all squishy again now so assuming they're at the back again. I've been getting it for a few weeks, randomly throughout the day if I catch it, it might happen times I don't realise too maybe. Anyways, just wondered if you guys noticed anything similar?

Also - how's everyone's hips? I finally got a pillow and it's done wonders! Took a while to get used too, but it follows me around the house now, from sofa to the bed 😂

SMG1992 · 18/08/2023 09:10

@Nclktnntt my hips aren't too bad whilst sleeping but sitting in an office chair all day is not great, especially as I want to sit with my legs crossed. I might start bringing my pregnancy pillow to work to see if it can help 😂

I'm 23+2 now and I read the baby is going to pretty much double in weight in the next 4 weeks! That is quite a growth spurt so I think I'll start noticing whereabouts in my tummy they are by the end of that!

My husband felt the baby kicking last night which was so lovely. There was only a couple so timing was spot on but it just felt so nice for him to start physically experiencing them too!

joyjoy23 · 18/08/2023 10:39

@Nclktnntt
I get the same thing! I started noticing this maybe a week ago when I was 22 weeks. Sometimes my tummy feels really firm on one side and a lot softer on the other.
It's not always on the same side and it does seem to change if I move positions or do some exercise, so I assume it's the baby moving about. 🥰 It's a lovely feeling, isn't it?

VillageFete · 18/08/2023 11:22

@NoodleQueen90 Yes, I’m uncomfortable with the thought of vaccinations in pregnancy due to the activation of the immune system obviously causing an inflammatory response, so for me it’s weighing all of the risks up. I’m fully vaxxed and boosted against Covid so I am hoping that provides some protection. I’m happy to hedge my bets and not have the flu jab, but I do take high dose Vit C, Zinc, Vit D etc so hoping that helps. Whooping cough I’m definitely taking, I couldn’t rest with worry if I didn’t, particularly as baby is born in Winter. I’m trying to find a balance that I feel comfortable with. I’m not some crazy anti vaxxer 🤣 I’m just cautious.

Is this your first baby? My due date is 13th December too! But as I say, they’re taking me a week early for a section. It’s lovely because my Consultant delivered my son (4 year’s ago) And she’s pencilled me in on 6th as she’s working then as she wants to deliver this baby. Apparently I could have chosen a day or two either side of the 6th. She’s also sterilising me!! I have an almost 14 year old DD, then my 4 year old son and then my unborn daughter- I’m definitely DONE! Although it took me many years to get my 4 year old and obviously this baby. It’s been a struggle.

SMG1992 · 18/08/2023 11:47

@VillageFete "I’m trying to find a balance that I feel comfortable with. I’m not some crazy anti vaxxer 🤣 I’m just cautious." - This is me too!
It's hard to explain you don't want particular vaccines without people assuming you're anti all vaccines!

NoodleQueen90 · 18/08/2023 12:03

@SMG1992 @VillageFete yip I'm exactly the same, it's just weighing up what you think the risks are yourself. My OH has never had a vaccine in his life but his 2 kids still got theirs. He's not actually anti-vax at all but his Mum was and now he doesn't see the point/is a bit scared to get any himself as he's never had them 😂
Yes this is my first (OH's 3rd) so I'm pretty nervous about the whole birth part...sort of just hoping it all goes ok but also won't beat myself up at all if all plans go out the window. There's really no way of knowing until I give it a go!

wannabemum38 · 18/08/2023 12:04

@SMG1992 @VillageFete I'm same I've had my usual covid plus 2 boosters obviously a while ago now but won't get a booster if offered just feel uncomfortable being such a new vaccine and me getting pregnant and currently 24 weeks is a miracle. But I've had the whooping cough and have my flu booked cos i got flu nasty last year even though had just had the vaccine so don't want to feel that ill again.

VillageFete · 18/08/2023 13:03

I’m glad to know i’m not the only one who approaches the vaccinations with a little bit of trepidation. I completely understand and appreciate not everyone feels that way, and we are so very lucky to have these options when it comes to vaccinations. I just never want to come across as a “weirdo” for erring on side or caution.

There’s a book I really like called “Brain health from birth” The author is a scientist and her first book “It starts with the egg” Is what I credit for helping me to complete my family. She’s offers a very balanced perspective when it comes to vaccinations, and it opened my eyes to actually doing a little research myself and deciding, ultimately, what I think is best for me.

I keep staring at the December portion of my calendar. I can’t believe I already know the date that she’ll be born! I plan on watching non stop Christmas films and eating cake for 2 weeks post birth 🤣

Nclktnntt · 18/08/2023 13:17

@VillageFete watching all the Christmas films sounds like the most amazing my thing! Definitely my plan too. Christmas we normally visit my husbands family in Italy but this year obv will not be so I'm excited as it'll be with my family and with a tv I can control 😂😂

VillageFete · 18/08/2023 13:38

@Nclktnntt Oh that will be lovely for you to just relax at home. I usually host every year, we are always mad busy on Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing day. This year, we’ve said we’ll still pop to the family event at our local pub on Christmas Eve with our older 2 kids and the baby and our friends and their kids. It’s only on 1pm to 3pm but it’s so lovely. Hoping i’m ok post C section for this!

We are eating out Christmas day, only somewhere local and having a 2pm sitting. No way am I bothering with cooking. That’s as exciting as it gets this year! Besides that it’ll be loads of time at home, relaxing and eating 🙈

Has anyone else thought about Christmas plans? I feel like I need to be organised this year with having 2 older kids.

Oh also, they’re sterilising me during my C section. Seems a bit strange given I have fertility issues and it’s taken 8 years to complete my family but we are DONE, and knowing my luck, I’ll suddenly become super fertile 🙄

Mushroo · 18/08/2023 13:50

I’m so jealous of everyone getting their babies before Xmas!

Im not due until the 30th - would love her to come a bit early (not on Xmas day though!).

Either way, I’ll be relaxing and watching Xmas films.

Xmas day is just the two of us (in theory) so were planning to have a massive breakfast, then just eat ‘party food’ for the evening e.g cheese, nice bread, a cooked ham etc. We did it last year and it was great.

We then normally go to the in-laws Boxing Day for the full dinner. Really hoping I can go as the food is normally incredible.

I keep reading how oxytocin induces labour, and I love Xmas, so I’ve semi convinced myself Xmas day is going to be the big day 😬. Maybe I need some stress planned.

Nclktnntt · 18/08/2023 14:03

Im with you @Mushroo due just before 27th, I plan to break up from work Saturday 16th and hopefully have everything babywise built and ready so I can just relax. I need to be way more organised this year with gifts than I normally am though, just in case baby comes early or my body isn't capable of too much walking and carrying come December.

@Nclktnntt ah I finish the 15th so we’re in the same boat! I’m going to aim to do Xmas shopping in October / November and if needs be, everyone is getting vouchers 😂

VillageFete · 18/08/2023 14:10

@Mushroo Your Christmas sounds idyllic!

Yes, I definitely need to be organised gift wise. I’ll get sorted in October.

I’m also absolutely delighted that i’ll be able to have a glass of fizz on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, plus all the camembert, pate etc… Will have to start a healthy eating regime come January 🙈

SMG1992 · 18/08/2023 15:45

I'm due 13th so hoping he's on time and am definitely also planning a relaxed Xmas with films and food - looking forward to some brie and camembert!
I'm hoping our in-laws might bring over a Xmas dinner as neither of us fancy cooking/cleaning up. I'm really looking forward to the baby bubble... Just hope he isn't late and on Xmas day!
think I'm just going to do vouchers for Xmas presents this year, Xmas shopping stresses me out anyway.
