I’ve done my mat b form and have arranged Mar leave - not going back until 2025 with holiday accrued added on to leave!
my cover starts this Friday too as need a long (3 month) handover. It all feels real now, I can’t believe I’ll be at home with a little one instead of going to work!

Mushroo · 27/08/2023 18:18

It’s all starting to feel very real! Some friends dropped off their next to me crib for us today.

In my head, September is just the countdown to Xmas, so I have a feeling these next few weeks will go very quickly!

I need to actually buy some stuff I think. We’ve picked a buggy (bugaboo dragonfly) and car seat (maxi cosi 360 pro). Need to be brave enough to press ‘order!’

Charlielechat · 27/08/2023 18:30

I'm going to start maternity leave at 36 weeks on 1st December as it means I'm still only taking 31 weeks maternity leave, and I'll hopefully be able to relax and enjoy the build up to the due date and Christmas! Would love it if baby comes before the due date to have a little Christmas baba!

I've only bought clothes too @Mushroo and a second hand bouncer! We have picked our pram bundle and crib but going to hold off ordering for another few weeks. I don't know why 🙈

Mushroo · 27/08/2023 18:38

@Charlielechat agree, having baby here for Xmas would be amazing!

I keep reading how oxytocin induces labour and I LOVE Xmas so now worrying I’m also definitely going to have a Xmas day baby.

Im the same, I’m scared to commit on ordering things and similarly have no valid reason as to why!

Charlielechat · 27/08/2023 18:50

@Mushroo Omg I'm the same - both with the love of Christmas and the researching oxytocin 😂 Yeah I don't want a Christmas day baby (more so because of their future birthdays) but would love it if they came maybe a week beforehand!

Mushroo · 27/08/2023 18:55

@Charlielechat definitely! Anytime before 24th would be great.

Knowing my luck I’ll have to wait until the 14 Jan 😂

smldnlove · 27/08/2023 21:15

Thanks all for the info on maternity leave forms etc. I still need to get my matb1 form too so will call up tomorrow so I can pick up this week.

Have just bought clothes too @Charlielechat @Mushroo but we’re picking up some bits on Facebook marketplace tomorrow (brand new snuzpod 4 and a little green sheep Moses basket) got them very cheap and definitely recommend having a look. Will probably just get brand new mattresses for both. What bouncer did you get @Charlielechat ?

Charlielechat · 27/08/2023 23:57

@smldnlove I'm also going for the snuzpod4. And love those Moses baskets! 😍 I agree Marketplace is great.
I got a Baby Bjorn bouncer on marketplace. They're so expensive brand new! I just washed the cover. I'm contemplating buying a spare cover if I can get one on sale, as I've read that baby Bjorn bouncers are renowned for being "pooping chairs" 😂 Must be something to do with the recline on them. So might be handy to have two covers!

I have been AWOL as was my wedding at weekend just checking in to say hi hope you are all doing well!

Undercoverunicorn · 29/08/2023 05:52

Congrats @wannabemum38 hope you had the most amazing time

bookbathnap · 29/08/2023 10:16

@wannabemum38 congratulations! Did you have a wonderful day? 2023 is certainly a big year for you 🥰

I’ve been feeling very mixed up these last few days with mood swings and crying episodes. I feel shattered and just want to hide under the duvet. Just trying to get through today and then I am working from home tomorrow so don't have to see people.

How is everyone else feeling?

VillageFete · 29/08/2023 10:22

@bookbathnap I am just exhausted. I’ve had a bloody viral chest thing going on for 3 weeks and I just want to stay in bed and watch horror movies 🙈 Absolutely can’t though as I have 2 other children to see to (Although one is a teenager and does her own thing)

I was working until 2am last night, my house is a mess and I just feel overwhelmed. I feel like I really need rest.

In terms of sleep - how is everyone sleeping? Are you all sleeping on your sides now? I am, but always wake up more on my tummy than i’d like and worry I’m harming her! I’m also awake multiple times per night, either needing to pee or just some kind of weird pregnancy insomnia.

RG84 · 29/08/2023 10:23

@wannabemum38 congratulations on your wedding, wishing you all best. Hope you had a fab day.

24 weeks and should be feeling stronger movements however still very light kicks and movements. Hope that's normal? Have my consultant appointment on Friday so really hope he is able to give me a date.

Mushroo · 29/08/2023 10:33

@RG84 Im 22 weeks and movement is still quite faint. It was strong end of last week for one day only and I got excited, but straight back to generic vague flutters. Frustrating as I keep thinking in the back of my mind that I should go get checked out, but she moves enough that I talk myself out of it. It’s just a low level worry!

SMG1992 · 29/08/2023 12:59

Congrats @wannabemum38 I hope you had a fantastic day!

I'm also feeling shattered. I started taking the spatone sachets last week in the hope it was my iron but it hasn't improved much.
I've been sleeping terribly - getting up to pee around 3 times a night!
I also get so tired after walking/gardening... feel like I've overdone it but the level of activity is so low compared to pre pregnancy.
I find it really hard to relax when things need doing, but I need to try harder!

NoodleQueen90 · 29/08/2023 13:24

I'm also in the shattered and emotional club 🙋I have a cold too and the coughing is keeping me awake at night. I emailed my boss Monday morning to ask if I could WFH both because I was shattered but also to avoid spreading the cold further and she emailed back and said no, I either had to go in or phone in sick...I literally cried like a baby for half an hour before pulling myself together and heading to the office. Historically they have been very relaxed about it as we are 50/50 between office and home but there's no part of my job that I can't do from home so it's just a bums on seats exercise. Apparently some of the other teams have been taking advantage and regularly not doing their 50% in the office without informing anyone. Part of me felt like going off sick as a matter of principle as I was actually unwell but I genuinely have so much to do hence why I did still want to work but from the comfort of home with ugly pyjama bottoms on 😂
Sat in the office all day in an absolute huff and went to my bed at 18:30 last night!

99SR · 29/08/2023 13:56

I’m feeling tired & emotional too! Go on holiday to Spain later on this evening and couldn’t have needed it more!! can’t wait for a week relaxing with my book - even if the weather is supposed to be a bit cloudy lol.

movement is quite faint for me still too! Sometimes feels super low down which makes me anxious if it’s normal or not. I’m 24+3!

Pitstop1986 · 29/08/2023 14:10

I'm 25+5 and my movements have become less enthusiastic, but still there, so I'm not worried. I tend to get little wriggles and kicks just before lunch, late afternoon, then at about 9.30 at night (just as I'm wanting to go to bed!)

I'm also exhausted! I'm napping when my daughter naps and I'm propping myself up with sugar when I'm not asleep! We got a cleaner when I first got pregnant as I was struggling to work, maintain a house and look after a toddler. She comes once per week for 2 hours and she's a lifesaver!

Charlielechat · 29/08/2023 15:35

I've had it relatively easy the last two months as I work term-time so I've been off for summer, but back to work tomorrow. I am dreading it! I'm sure I will be joining the shattered and emotional club soon 🙈

Congrats on your wedding @wannabemum38 Hope you had a lovely day!

andpeggy1 · 29/08/2023 15:38

How have I only just found this thread now! I was starting to think no one was due in December this year 😂🙈.

I'm currently 24 + 1 (flo app tells me 24 + 4)

High bmi, but things going well so far and no negative interactions with any healthcare providers.

Due 15/12 fingers crossed they become my rainbow baby after 3 losses

Beans1982 · 29/08/2023 17:51

Congrats on your wedding @wannabemum38 👏I hope you had a great day and you were able to relax, take it all in and enjoy your day together (I remember mine last year, the day flew past so fast!!).

I'm feeling shattered and anxious/annoyed. *Warning, bit of a rant here - I feel like my MIL is over stepping and taking away some of the enjoyment away from me and my husband. Initially, she said she wasn't going to buy anything for baby but instead gift us money so we could purchase baby bits we actually need and like...she called the other day, first asking if we'd give her the go ahead to buy things (we said please don't, let us buy), next thing she wanted to show us just one item she'd bought...the one item turned out to be a full box of things she's already bought (30+ items, many of which are teethers and pram toys).

Husband told her that she's taking away the enjoyment we want to experience when we start to buy things (haven't bought anything yet).
Writting this here, I appreciate I come across as ungrateful, but it's just really wound me up that she's bought so many things, a lot of which I don't like/too many of the same item.
We also made it super clear that we don't want to spoil our child but she brushed it off by saying she's going to spoil her baby no matter what (pretty certain I'm the one having the baby, not her).
She's also trying to influence the name we'll choose for our baby when I've already had a previous convo with her where I said we won't share the name until our little one's arrived safe and sound.
My husband says she's just very excited, which I get and glad she's excited, but I would like her respect our wishes.

Also not sleeping paticularly well at the moment, I keep waking up at 2am every night and last night I was woken up by kicking at 4am (this I didn't mind so much), I'm also experiencing vivid dreams - last night the theme was others taking control...🤔

Nclktnntt · 29/08/2023 17:59

Welcome @andpeggy1 I know a few people personally who are due December too, it's a popular month round here 🤣

Congratulations @wannabemum38 I hope you had a lovely time!

Im sometimes shattered so not sure if it's just I've worked too hard that day or if it's pregnancy or both mixed together (probably the latter)

Im feeling bumps regularly now, no set patter yet but I def in the evening and morning when I'm having breakfast and normally every time I turn over at night I get at least 1 knock from baby - probably not happy about now being upside down or something 😂 I sleep on my side anyway so I'm a side sleeper, I occasionally wake up with my shoulder on my back but my legs are still sideways - so I twist, like that yoga move 😂 I'm up at least twice in the night for a wee, which I'm still getting used too lol. Most knocks I get are soft but today I had a couple fairly strong ones.

I almost called triage on Sunday, I'd not really felt them all day, I wasn't sure and I've not had anything that faint in a good week now so I was starting to worry slightly but at around 10pm they let me know they were ok, so I settled, they were having a rest a day given it was the weekend I guess.

Im seeing the midwife tomorrow I think this is when she'll start measuring my bump? Im 23 weeks tomorrow. It's my 24 - 28 week catch up but she's away next week and I'm away for 3 weeks after so we chose earlier meet up otherwise it's be at 29 weeks 🙈

Nclktnntt · 29/08/2023 18:27

Oh @Beans1982 I'm sorry to hear that about your MIL, especially as you guys haven't brought anything yet. I get that!

Obviously she is excited too and wanted to buy something - which I also get, and I'm sure you do too, but dummies and stuff like that I think is more personal preference and you guys should have the say one which kind etc.

My MIL has said she wants to pay for the pram we choose. She asked my husband last week if we'd seen this and that and he started laughing saying you've done more research than us (we plan to do research whilst away in September and visit placed in October) I know she won't just buy anything though she's helping us research.

However, his nan is my concern. His uncle (lives with the nan) joked about her sending us a 30kilo case full of baby things to which she replied 'no I'll take it myself' now, I wouldn't put this past her - she sends 30+ kilos of food and things abroad (to the MILs) ever Christmas before we all descend there. But a couple times I have said - she wouldn't be buying a suitcase full of stuff will she... my husbands response is 'who knows, probably' - my concern is I won't like them, and it'll be a waste of money. We have very different tastes in clothes. Last week my husband said to me 'oh about that 30kilo case' 'yea' 'apparently she'll give it us when we go up in November' 'whose said this?' 'My mom, she told her, you said we're going up, so we can collect it then' his nan is also very opinionated and I'm dreading the day she finds out we've chosen not to breastfeed, but that's a whole other story 😂

So yea apparently we have a case of things to collect 😂🙈 I honestly don't mind, we've brought one thing ourselves, I just hope it's all blankets, baby towels, muslin cloths, bibs, hats, things we'll need a lot of and can't really have too many! and not all new born clothes that they probably won't wear 🙈

Undercoverunicorn · 29/08/2023 19:43

Tired and emotional here too! Work is v full on a the mo, DD not sleeping well, trying to sort out getting the spare room cleared and decorated so the nursery is freed up, and pelvic pain ramped up plus leg cramps at night.

Remind me when the glowing phase starts 😂
