@Muriel84 Yes! That's exactly it! They said it sat just below baby and could be a pool of blood that gathered from womb lining or another pregnancy that didn't take which would then result in the same pool of blood but no way of telling which. They said it might come out as a mini period or it might be reabsorbed by my body which could explain the pain. But I've not actually bled so I'm hoping that's a good sign! Thank you for your experience, that put my mind at ease for sure!

I agree with certain things on the NHS but with both previous pregnancies I literally went with everything in moderation. Apart from one time when I craved peanuts with DS and demolished a family sharing bag of salted peanuts to myself! I feel like if you want smoked salmon, a small portion wouldn't hurt, just perhaps don't over indulge! 😂

Muriel84 · 21/06/2023 10:26

@cossie13 ah that’s so interesting! I saw a consultant and she said they think it’s probably caused by the implanting placenta hitting a blood vessel. She was so reassuring tho and said there’s no increased risk of miscarriage but they’ll keep a closer eye on me later on because it can affect growth. I already am at risk of that anyway for various reasons and my son was unexpectedly very small. I’m 9 weeks today and would love a scan to see what’s going on right now but my DP is the same. Also the window to the womb place near me wasn’t a great experience last pregnancy. I have had four scans already I should probably chill out.

I’ve already had quite a lot of smoked salmon this week before I checked the nhs page 🙈 I didn’t know you’re not meant to eat peanuts?! I’ve had them too.

Mummyme87 · 21/06/2023 10:40

I’m craving carbs still. And pineapple. I had a carbonara from M&S at work for lunch yesterday, wow it hit the spot. Tuna sandwiches aswell… nom nom. Not feeling sweets and chocolate. Love a packet of crisps aswell. With my two boys I craved satsumas first time and daim bars second time.

my nuchal scan is 6th July, so two weeks to wait. We get bloods done at least a week before so they can give you your combined results on the day.

Gremlin84 · 21/06/2023 11:08

Peanuts are fine - guidance changed on that a few years ago.

Smoked salmon is because there’s been higher levels of reported listeria from uncooked smoked salmon the last few years. Stick it in an omelette or something though to cook through and you’re fine.

Gremlin84 · 21/06/2023 11:09

@Mummyme87 now I’m craving pineapple 😂

ThomasinaLivesHere · 21/06/2023 11:44

@Muriel84 Nuts are fine. I eat them every week. The advice not to eat them is from a while ago. I find often you get advice off people from when they had children as they’re not aware it’s changed.

cossie13 · 21/06/2023 11:52

I genuinely think advice on what to eat and what not to eat changes on a yearly basis! When I had DS the advice was to not eat eggs with runny yolks. Now they're ok if they're the British standard lion eggs or something like that! All to do with salmonella I believe

Kalodin · 21/06/2023 11:54

It also depends on countries too! I remember I had such a hard time arguing with the in laws when we visited France about what I didn't feel comfortable eating and drinking

Mummyme87 · 21/06/2023 11:58

Most of this advice changed before I started my midwifery training which was 18th are ago. It’s outdated advice on websites and from older relatives that keeps filtering through. There’s very little you are recommended to avoid and a lot of it is just use common sense.
i eat rare steaks but only from somewhere decent, not the local Wetherspoons as an example. I don’t eat pate because of the vitamin A, that’s my only strict thing. I eat far too much Brie at Christmas from Pret… the Brie baguettes are immense 🤤

we had a listeria case years ago at work, it was from an M&S sandwich, none of the stuff recommended not to eat

cossie13 · 21/06/2023 12:14

@Mummyme87 That is extremely useful advice! Thank you 😊

Flossiepot · 21/06/2023 12:16

Wow yes @Mummyme87 very helpful.
Crazy how much they warn you off.
I also read that nuts everyday in pregnancy is good to help avoid nut allergies - not sure how true that is but quite enjoying my cashews every day 😹

Mummyme87 · 21/06/2023 12:18

@Flossiepot yeah not sure about that. I know when weaning introducing nut products straight away is advised. Mine always loved peanut butter on toast in the early days.. reduced sugar obvs 😬😂

LondonNQT · 21/06/2023 12:44

Wait, on the proper labour ward @Mummyme87 at Georges? Not just on the Carmen Suite?

Will be crossing all my fingers and toes it’s free when my time comes!!!

cossie13 · 21/06/2023 12:48

I have to say, it's lovely seeing people from similar areas that will be in the same hospitals! Is anyone here going to be in Telford hospital?

Panapan · 21/06/2023 13:21

Kalodin · 21/06/2023 10:05

Yeah @Flossiepot This is my 4th pregnancy that's made it this far along.

Definitely a bump there, it stays consistent throughout the day and can see it slightly bulging even when laying down.

DS1 bloody asked today "mummy is there a baby in your tummy at last!" In front of all the school mums 😳 I didn't want to lie so I paused for wayyyyy too long and said "another baby would be lovely wouldn't it"

Ah children can always be trusted to say what they think can’t they?! My 6 and 3 year olds started dancing round the kitchen the other day singing “mummy’s got a giant belly” and “is there a baby in there”? It’s fair to say that at 12 weeks I must be showing!

Mummyme87 · 21/06/2023 14:16

@LondonNQT yes a pool on labour ward! Just installed, got a load of health and safety stuff to get through but should be good for us in January!!

Kalodin · 21/06/2023 14:28

Found something that helps my nausea and sickness! Fruitella Fruit Drops!

Me! I've had one at Telford before. Plus one at Shrewsbury and one at New Cross. I know Telford has (understandably) had a lot of bad press but my birth there was great and I was very well cared for.

Oh damn! I used to live near there.

youaremysunshine03 · 21/06/2023 15:45

Ooh just on the pool on the labour ward.. my hospital has one too! I used it during my first birth when all my plans for using the midwife-led unit went out the window on the day 🙃 it was such a lovely room and didn’t feel like I was on the labour ward!

Kalodin · 21/06/2023 15:49

I've got my bloods and booking appointment at the MLU, going to ask right there at the booking about if there is any way they'll support a pool birth for a VBA2C at their unit. I mean.... it's literally adjacent to the theatres and the Consultant led unit

ItsAJourney · 21/06/2023 15:55

Got my booking appointment date come through today for next Friday. Feeling incredibly anxious and stressed again which in turn is making me worry more about what harm I could be doing, so it’s nice to have a date to work towards.

I’ve had two VBACs and both times I was told I could use the pool (but both times it wasn’t available). This time I’m at a different hospital though so it may be different rules.

Kalodin · 21/06/2023 16:17

Thank you @Panapan With previous 3 I've been told no about the pools but oddly been allowed to use a bath instead!?

I was classed as "high risk" as waters went early with previous 3.

Really want a VBAC as looking back at DS1, if was so over medicalised and I knew barely anything about labour prep and birth positions so there was just a cascade of interventions that led to forceps delivery. With DS2 and 3 they were EMCSs due to signs of sepsis so I do not disagree they were needed. But with all 3 babies, I did go into spontaneous labour.

buckingmad · 21/06/2023 16:25

@cossie13 the last few weeks with my daughter I was OBSESSED with Skittles. I would literally eat a family pack a day. My jaw actually ached from chewing them. Then soon as I gave birth I didn't eat another pack. God knows what that was about, I was convinced she was going to come out bright orange or green from all the colourings 😂
