Thought I'd start a new one as the old one is full!

I'm 37w exactly and definitely starting to feel more Braxton Hicks (they woke me up last night) but they don't seem to be getting more intense/frequent. Also a bit of lower back ache and general bump tenderness, plus I think I've lost a small bit of my mucus plug. Think this is probably normal at this stage and just my body gearing up for labour but am quite nervous as have a c section at 38+3 and hoping to last till then! Second pregnancy but last baby arrived at 36w so feels like uncharted territory!

How is everyone else feeling?

Feel so disheartened. She's checked me after 6hrs of the gel and I have been getting contractions 5-10 min apart. She's checked and said iv barely moved from 1cm but my cervix has effaced and thinned.

I really regret agreeing to induction now and if it wasn't for them scaring me about baby growth tapering off I never would have done it. I understand induction can take a while but didn't expect to get all this pain for nothing. Actually so sad about it just had a big cry. Missing my other 2 kids too and now it seems I'm going to be away from them even longer.

BobbySD345 · 07/06/2023 17:13

@tigerlily0 Aw I hope you are OK. How long have you been in for? I have heard mixed things about pessaries vs the drip and who needed what to get started. Don't be disheartened as your body might just jump into action over the next couple of hours ! Can you facetime your little ones ? X

Belami · 07/06/2023 18:38

@tigerlily0 hope you're okay lovely 😞 that sounds so tough, is your birthing partner allowed to stay with you?
Xx

tigerlily0 · 07/06/2023 18:54

I was in at 7.30 had gel at 9.45. I understood that induction can take time and the gels sometimes don't work in the first instance. But I didn't expect to be getting 5 min apart contractions only for no dilation. Had a good cry and just feel really upset, I think I'm just fed up. This is so diff to my other 2 spontaneous labours. DH has to leave at 10pm which is the other anxiety I have.

My niece is going to bring my other kids now for an hour or so. Don't really want them to see me that upset but I think itl make us all feel better.

BobbySD345 · 07/06/2023 19:19

@tigerlily0 glad you are having some visitors and hope they cheer you up 😊 I was saying to DH earlier I think it's more difficult in a way when you have other pregnancies and births to compare this one to as you symptom watch and have certain expectations. I understand where you are coming from. I hope things get moving for you soon x

tigerlily0 · 07/06/2023 19:38

Thanks guys. My dd Labour was 24hr from start to finish but because I was at home I carried on with chores and sorting my then toddler, I think being in this restricted environment is not helping, I get it now. Both my other labours once in active phase literally progressed swimmingly thru the night and I had them both by morning. So I didn't expect to be held back like this. Not sure whether to even get the second gel this evening as hubby won't be here and also il end up with more pain thru the night . Might ask for it in the morning now.

Ally1992 · 07/06/2023 20:37

@tigerlily0 I know how you feel after being there 3 weeks ago. I would ask for the second gel in the morning so you could get some sleep, are they doing observations every 4 hours? That’s what got to me in the end as they wake you up through the night.

Introducing matilda born 10.20am at 37+5 and weighing in at 5lb , she's perfect and feeding like a champion. I'm up and about, catheter out and hope to be discharged tomorrow lunch all being well

Congratulations @Hlc86 she's beautiful 😍

I really hope those of you in early labour have made some progress now.

After my contractions started on Monday last week they were stop/start all the way through to Wednesday evening when they ramped up and didn’t stop. I went from every 5 mins whilst watching TV to every 2 mins bringing tears to my eyes once I stood up. That was 10pm and my boy was born at 1:30 so the last bit was quick thankfully.

C1umsyGiraffe · 08/06/2023 07:17

Congratulations @Hlc86! She's absolutely beautiful 💛

Sorry to hear that @tigerlily0, I hope you're visitors helped and you feel better this morning!

BobbySD345 · 08/06/2023 08:11

@Hlc86 Congratulations. She is so cute!!! 😍

Well we had another evening and overnight of "should we ring the unit??" after using one of those contractions apps and it constantly flashing up "go to hospital" because they were averaging every 6 mins for over 2 hours. Decided to try and get some sleep. Woke up at 2am with pains but the tightenings had slowed to 20 mins. It's clearly hicks rather than proper contractions but I always thought they were more one or two here and there, not constantly all day yesterday and getting closer together. They're still happening this morning every 5 mins. You'd think if they were the real deal they'd have escalated by now though? Tricky to know what to do. My waters went first with DS so we knew where we stood re needing him out in 24 hours. Is anyone else in a similar situation? X

I had this with my first, I didnt know it was a thing but it went on for about 4 or 5 nights unfortunately ! I would be up all night timing and thinking this was it and then wake uo having passed out on the sofa with zero contractions, eventually it did progress. I don't know if linked but my daughter was in the "back to back" position so this might have been something to do with it. It's considered "early" labour but not active/ established labour. Very frustrating but it is a good sign. I did go in a couple times because I had a lot of back pain with it and they gave me Painkillers, hope it progresses soon for you! X

Congratulations ! She is beautiful, trying not to get jealous of all these gorgeous babies ! X

@Rlt8990 This is so helpful thank you ! Last night was the 3rd night but this morning does feel a bit "different"/bit more painful. I'm going to keep an eye on it but I've got DS today so monitoring belly and a 3 yo will be a challenge !

It's frustrating but it does sound more than braxton hicks to me so fingers crossed for you xx

tigerlily0 · 08/06/2023 12:14

Update on my induction- after my first gel and not progressing in terms of dilation (my cervix is effaced and softened a lot more ) I had a rest thru the night. The mw has checked me now and said I'm still only 1cm, she couldn't get 2 fingers in. She's given me the second gel and I just know I'm going to have 5min apart contractions for the next 6 hours and nothings going to change. She said she thinks it's because of baby's position and baby is quite high up. I'm having a debate with my DH that no matter how many gels I get or if I even get to 3cm enough for them to break my waters, baby is probably stuck in this position and won't move so I should cut my losses and after this just opt for c section. I'm tired, fed up and had enough. DH is totally against c section and trying to be positive. But it's pissing me off now cos I want him to be more supportive of what I decide and I think I should book a c sec. Really upsetting as iv never wanted c sec and both my other births were spontaneous and pretty straightforward but I have made my peace with it that every baby is diff with diff outcomes. Sorry for the long post just disheartened and trying to do what's best

BobbySD345 · 08/06/2023 12:53

@tigerlily0 It's good to involve your DH in the decision making process but ultimately it is your body that goes through all of this. Hopefully he comes around to your viewpoint but even if he doesn't, it's ultimately your decision and you know what's right.

tigerlily0 · 08/06/2023 13:03

@BobbySD345 yea he won't have a choice once I decide. But he doesn't understand how physically and more so metally exhausted I am. Keeps saying cmon let's go for a walk ( and I am) but a walk is not going to solve everything. And I'm getting such bad contractions pains with no pain relief and with no progression. It's mentally breaking me

BobbySD345 · 08/06/2023 15:45

@tigerlily0 I'm so sorry you're having such a tough time of it all. My Husband described feeling very helpless when I was in labour with our Son so maybe he's just trying to help in the only way he knows how. If you're in pain, nothing he or anyone else says will help, let's be honest ! Maybe when things get moving you might want to consider an epidural as it sounds like you're going to be exhausted.

tigerlily0 · 08/06/2023 15:58

Yea I know he means well, I can't get an epidural because I'm not getting to the second stage , need to be 3cm. I'm getting contraction pain with the gel but no dilation progression😔. Will be having a discussion with the consultant soon to see what my options are

hannahplym · 09/06/2023 08:57

40 weeks today...no sign of baby. Hoping for a successful sweep at my midwife appointment today then if not I'm in for an induction on Sunday (GD). Come on baby let's beat the induction!

AngelBlue12 · 09/06/2023 13:39

Been booked in on Monday morning for ECV and managed induction- she’s now transverse so I’ve been told to go straight to hospital over the weekend if I have any kind of contraction pain!

BobbySD345 · 09/06/2023 14:44

Saw the Consultant this morning. Cried 3 times 😒 Information overload and then she did a stretch and sweep and my god was it painful.
I was already 2cm and baby is engaged. They've booked induction for this afternoon but bed space may mean it's over the weekend. Tightenings are definitely now turning into contractions since she stretched me and becoming quite painful !

ireneadler101 · 10/06/2023 05:45

Hi everyone, we welcomed our baby boy on Monday afternoon, after I went into labour two days before my c section date (I wasn't sure if it was just strong Braxton Hicks but I was in for monitoring as baby was measuring small and blood flow through the cord was elevated, and they examined me and confirmed that it was early labour). They brought my c section forward to that afternoon no questions asked.

Despite all looking well on the monitoring they had been doing, baby was, to everyone's shock, born unresponsive. They did, however, get him breathing within a couple of minutes and after a night in NICU he was discharged back with me in the postnatal ward. Safe to say that it wasn't the birth we had expected and it was a scary experience, but we are feeling very grateful that our little man seems to have suffered no long lasting effects.
