Thought I'd start a new one as the old one is full!

I'm 37w exactly and definitely starting to feel more Braxton Hicks (they woke me up last night) but they don't seem to be getting more intense/frequent. Also a bit of lower back ache and general bump tenderness, plus I think I've lost a small bit of my mucus plug. Think this is probably normal at this stage and just my body gearing up for labour but am quite nervous as have a c section at 38+3 and hoping to last till then! Second pregnancy but last baby arrived at 36w so feels like uncharted territory!

How is everyone else feeling?

@Kelvie103 ftm and 37w2d but I don't think I've had them either. My bump feels tight in the evening but no tightening and releasing sensation which I've been told is BH. My consultant said not everyone gets them and that you can just go straight to contractions then labour. I have had a tiny bit of dried colostrum but I am not putting pressure on myself to express/harvest before baby is here. I am having a c section and I just have to trust that when my baby arrives my body will know what to do to nourish her.

Whentwobecomesthree · 30/05/2023 09:40

@Kelvie103

I have had tonnes of Braxton hicks in this pregnancy but had zero in my first pregnancy. I genuinely just think every pregnancy is just different!

Re colostrum harvesting. I tried really hard with my first pregnancy from 36 weeks, couldn't get any. Midwife tried for me. The pressure she used was much much greater than everything I had been doing myself. Not sure it'll work but don't be afraid to be a bit more forceful

tigerlily0 · 30/05/2023 10:13

@Kelvie103 I had lots of BH for weeks and now as I'm basically full term tmrw- there's literally no signs lol

@Fredthespider I can imagine that being so annoying, iv had pretty much no signs of Labour, have a growth scan booked today and I don't want to have a check or a sweep so I might refuse it. Hard decision regarding whether you should bring kids back as it's an hour away. It's so confusing isnt it

pippabg · 30/05/2023 11:09

@Kelvie103 I'm not having a good time with colostrum harvesting either. I'm 38+2 and being doing it over a week and got nothing more than a slightly glistening nipple and a tiny droplet that was too small to put in a syringe! Sometimes absolutely nothing comes out. Been told to persevere and I suppose the act of doing it can stimulate production and even encourage labour.

BobbySD345 · 30/05/2023 11:14

@Kelvie103 with my 1st i had none until 3 days before my waters went. Had loads this time, like literally constant these days. Just shows every pregnancy is different. Hope this helps ease your mind xx

DrinkingAllTheGin · 30/05/2023 11:21

I've not been trying yet as I didn't want to encourage Labour until after the Bank holiday.

38 +1 and today we have a growth scan. I half expect to be kept in.

Hlc86 · 30/05/2023 12:09

With my fist pregnancy I didn't have any braxton hicks, no loss of plug or anything before I went into labour. But this time I'm getting really bad hicks and everything and anything sets them off, my tummy goes so tight it looks like you can see the out line of her (it actually makes me feel really queesy to look at, proper alien feeling 👽😂) I have a presentation scan today to see if she's moved but I can feel her head on one side and bum on the other so pretty sure she's still transverse 😢

C1umsyGiraffe · 30/05/2023 13:01

@Kelvie103 I'm 36+5 and I haven't had any either! Had exactly the same period cramps/back ache you've described but no tightenings at all, I feel the same worried she'll be late 🤦‍♀️ but we'll just have to wait and see! I am managing to squeeze some colostrum but have tried collecting it yet.

Kelvie103 · 30/05/2023 13:01

Thanks for the replies, its reassuring to know its normal not to have any signs then, especially with first babies it seems. I've been told I'll probably be induced around my due date and have heard a couple of horror stories this weekend about inductions so really hoping I go into labour before then!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 30/05/2023 15:01

Congrats all x

Yes DD is doing great. She's still on special milk from pharmacy and we changed her bottle teats this week as the latex ones she's squashing with her mouth and struggling getting milk out. Now got the Nuk 0-6 medium silicon ones and she's taking milk much better. She's now 5lb9 and 8 weeks, 9 on Thursday. She's only now just into tiny baby clothes. She's feeding every 4 hours during nights.

tigerlily0 · 30/05/2023 15:32

After some advice really. I'm 40 weeks tmrw, I have general growth scans due to having hypothyroidism. Baby has been a consistent 50th centile. Had a scan today placenta and blood flow are absolutely fine, water levels are also fine, baby is moving fine. The only thing consultant said to me was growth has slowed down - should be 20g a day and is now 11g a day.

Consultant said I have to advise that you should consider induction. I have rejected it for now and I have triage on Thursday to check baby is ok then next Tuesday I'm back to speak to the same consultant and he said I would consider induction then if u haven't had baby.he asked if I wanted a sweep today with a MW- again I said no because I had this with my son and it didn't help and was just awful.

I'm not overly concerned as all stats and baby is moving fine, has anyone else been through this?

rllrsk8 · 30/05/2023 16:16

@pippabg I haven't had much luck with colostrum harvesting either, have managed a little every few days but I found watching different YouTube tutorials really helped - everyone just has a slightly different way of explaining it and eventually, with much perseverance - 1.5 hours in the bath last night - I got about 3/4 of a syringe. Friend had a lactation consultant as she was struggling and was told she wasn't getting quite close enough to the nipple, but when she corrected that it flowed pretty easily, and I found that helped a bit, too.

Belami · 30/05/2023 16:28

Sorry if I've asked this before ladies but it's really playing on my mind as I get closer to my due date.

Does anyone know if it is possible to ask and get granted an ECS instead of induction if it came to it? I'm wanting a spontaneous natural (with pain relief haha) labour ideally but I do not want an induction after all the horrible stories I've been told.

I asked my midwife at my last appointment if this would be possible and she said I'd just have to turn up to my induction date and ask for a caesarean on the day...I'm sure she knows her stuff but that doesn't sound quite right to me?

DrinkingAllTheGin · 30/05/2023 20:55

Had a growth scan today at 38+1 and bubs is now off the scale big. So we have been reccomended to have an elective c-section rather than risk induction. So all booked in for next Tuesday! Scary stuff.

Dewintergarden · 30/05/2023 20:57

@DrinkingAllTheGin ooh good luck! My ELCS is next Tuesday as well! Do you have a time yet?

DrinkingAllTheGin · 30/05/2023 20:58

@Dewintergarden no, I have to go in at 8am, so I think fairly early.

BobbySD345 · 30/05/2023 21:56

Just spent half hour trying to syringe and got 0.5 😅 A lot of effort, I hope she appreciates it !

BobbySD345 · 31/05/2023 06:34

@DrinkingAllTheGin Why is it they have suggested avoid induction? Because baby is big and they're concerned you wouldn't be able to deliver naturally? They're saying our girl's belly is off the scale and that was at 36 weeks. I'm due to see the Consultant on 9th so I wonder if they will say the same to me.

BobbySD345 · 31/05/2023 06:36

@Belami I thought you could elect as part of your birthing plan at any stage but I could be wrong. Maybe have a look on NHS or get a second opinion? I thought the point of electing is that you get a date and time and its a plan for you and your medical team to work towards. Is that what you mean or have I misinterpreted your question x

Belami · 31/05/2023 08:15

Thanks @BobbySD345 yeah that's exactly what I mean! I've got a midwife app today so I'm going to ask again.

Maybe they won't book one in advance though as my preference is to have a spontaneous vaginal birth first? Just don't want inducing 😒 It wouldn't really be a planned cs if I have to just turn up on the day I'm meant to be induced and beg for it, also don't really want the stress of that.

Anyway hopefulllllly I'm forward thinking too much and baby boy will just come.

How're you doing?

BobbySD345 · 31/05/2023 08:39

@Belami Ah yes so your first plan is to deliver naturally but if not then c section? You would think they could still plan for that by saying, for example, 39 weeks rather than an induction date they give you a c section date. Not sure! Bit a bit pushy with the midwife today and ask questions. I'm useless at that and come away wishing I had asked something and so last time I took a list and literally reeled them off lol.

Belami · 31/05/2023 09:20

@BobbySD345

Yeah, I've just heard so many bad things about inductions leading to a lot of ECS anyway and I'm just exhausted from having SPD for so long that I think a planned one would be the best course of action if it comes to it.

Thank you for the advice ❤️ I'll be 38+5 today so do you think she'll want to start discussing inductions or will that be next week? If she just fobs me off again is there anyone else I can go to does anyone know?

DrinkingAllTheGin · 31/05/2023 09:44

@BobbySD345 essentially yes. They don't want me to go over 39 weeks due to my age (40+) and I'm only 5ft tall. With bubs abdominal measuring off the scale at over 95th percentile and still a week to go the consultant said that induction may not work for me and that they would prefer to plan a c-section at this point.

rllrsk8 · 31/05/2023 09:47

I've been nervous about being induced too, but I googled positive induction stories and found plenty - it's not all doom and gloom! There's plenty of positive outcomes and happy mums too, just that the scary one are the ones that tend to be shared.

I'm booked in to be induced at 40 weeks on Friday this week, trying to stay positive and keep an open mind - I may have changed my mind if asked again next week but at the moment am trying to believe in power of positive thinking!

BobbySD345 · 31/05/2023 10:08

@Belami So in our area we don't have a midwife specifically that we can contact, we have to ring the community midwife office and there's usually someone manning the phone and a duty midwife there to help. If you have something similar you could try them, call and explain you feel a bit deflated after your appt and wonder if you could ask a few questions?
