@lou9393 I had this and midwife said to keep drinking more. 8 glasses a day. I’d gone to 2 glasses a day due to nausea and it made my blood pressure drop. Also eating.

good luck

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 07/06/2023 18:58

@Vikki7 oh love the watery brown as other have said sounds better than thick brown/red. I hope tomorrow flies by and Friday gives you the positive news you deserve!

@lou9393 like lucy said, keep drinking, try drier foods like unbuttered toast and crackers, also I found flat cold lemonade really helped, so the fizzy variety, open it up, put the bottle in the fridge and have a glass of it instead of from the bottle, somehow the lack of fizzy helps to settle my stomach (this may be a hang over from when I was a child, when I was sick my nan fed me cola bottle pick n mix and that helped settle my tummy)

So pleased you got to see your little beanie @Dannic2018 as others have said, all of these scans are making me want to book a private one too!

@Muriel84 I hope the dreaded covid passes quickly!

LondonNQT · 07/06/2023 19:53

Just booked in our NIPT test @Lilothblos and @Firsttimerugbymum for straight after the 12 week scan.

I’m doing it as a private patient at our local hospital (St Georges, they call it the SAFE test) as at £350 it’s a bit less dear than most of the private companies. They don’t do a separate scan nor do they tell you the sex, so might not suit everyone, but worth knowing about.

That's not too bad a price though. Tbh it is a bit of an odd way to find out the gender and would almost want to do it at a scan!

FirstT1meMum · 07/06/2023 20:22

@JaffaCake123 @Mummyme87 thank you so much, feel less alone 🙈 wish I'd have realised earlier than now and had been taken my higher dose sooner but midwife didn't seem too concerned 🤞

MimosasInFrance · 07/06/2023 20:58

Can't tag you guys for some reason but I'm also doing NIPT/Harmony. I'm a "Knowledge is Power" kind of person and would prefer to have all the facts as soon as possible and we're fortunate enough to be able to afford it. We're doing it at the Fetal Medicine Centre in London - £400 I think and includes a scan and gender. Weirdly haven't even given the gender a second thought!

My booking appointment is tomorrow. My first baby so I don't really know what to expect! I've had a million scans at this point though because of the bleeding 😅

Lilothblos · 07/06/2023 21:14

@MimosasInFrance that’s how I feel too. @Firsttimerugbymum I have been trying to think of ways to get the gender rather than just reading it on an email, you’re right it seems like it could be a bit of an anticlimax (although obviously isn’t the main point of us doing the test)!

Onedayatatime24 · 07/06/2023 21:22

@FirstT1meMum yes exactly the same! She told me not to take the aspirin until after 12 weeks. I was also a bit scared of high BMI but she was really nice. She did say I'd be consultant led but that nothing really changes other than I might talk to a consultant a couple of times on the phone.

One odd thing she did say was that they recommend slimming world as a 'healthy eating' plan to follow which I thought was strange as although I do have a high BMI, it's not super super high. Anyone else had this advice?

FirstT1meMum · 07/06/2023 21:26

@Onedayatatime24 yeah she mentioned I'd be under a consultant but would probably only see them a couple of times and it would be her I saw regularly.

I had similar that I would be asked to go to a 'lifestyle' appointment (or something to a similar name) but didn't go into much detail about it! I've already changed my lifestyle when we were ttc and I can only really stomach carrot and cucumber sticks anyway so not too sure what they will tell me 🤣

Glad your experience seems to be a good one too! I was absolutely terrified of what they'd say 🙈

Mummyme87 · 07/06/2023 21:37

@LondonNQT 👋🏻 I work at St George’s.

Onedayatatime24 · 07/06/2023 21:46

@Onedayatatime24 me too, you hear so many horror stories! Ironically I was losing weight at the start of this year to help us conceive next year, ended up doing it by accident anyway 😅

Yes, she mentioned the lifestyle appointment thing to me too actually but didn't seem too pushy, just that I might be offered it, so maybe just a standard thing they have to tell you!

LondonNQT · 08/06/2023 02:31

I had wondered that @Mummyme87! We became very well acquainted with the Pret during my first labour… 😍

That’s not bad at all @MimosasInFrance- the ones I was looking at last time were upwards of £500.

@Firsttimerugbymum I guess you could always do a mini sex reveal party if you wanted? We didn’t find out the sex last time (as the pressure for a girl was a lot) and we won’t this time either (just personal preference).

My top tip would be to lie about your due date - whack on a couple of extra days/weeks. I found it took the pressure off a bit at the end, when the ‘are they here yet’ questions from family became a lot for NCT friends!

sashastuck · 08/06/2023 05:22

@LondonNQT I’m also delivering at St George’s!

How did the pizza trip go @Mummyme87 ?

OP posts:
Mummyme87 · 08/06/2023 06:14

@sashastuck it was okay actually. I forgot to bring a snack so was starving but yesterday wasn’t a bad day

@LondonNQT ah yes, PRET! Need a bloody second mortgage for that

RaspberryTime · 08/06/2023 06:51

@Eirlys1986 Thanks for that about the lavender…think I need to stop catastrophising!!

How’s everyone feeling about screening? I’ve started to feel quite anxious about it over the last day or two.

Eirlys1986 · 08/06/2023 08:59

@RaspberryTime you’re welcome, there’s always something to worry about during pregnancy, lavender included!
I actually declined nhs triple screening as it partially uses age to calculate risk and I’m 37 now so don’t want to get an inaccurate high risk result, we are going to pay privately for a harmony test which we had last pregnancy which is pricey but much more accurate and covers more conditions 👍🏻

RaspberryTime · 08/06/2023 09:06

@Eirlys1986 That’s really interesting - I wondered if age would be taken into consideration (I’m 39, will be 40 by due date). This is my first so have no idea about any of this and feeling increasingly anxious about a high risk screening outcome.

suz2285 · 08/06/2023 09:49

@RaspberryTime yeah i'm the same, the age thing always bumps up the risk factor, i looked at the harmony tests too but if the NHS screening gives you as high risk they'll do the NIPT test anyway. But yes, really worried about that as well! Still just worried about getting to that point at the moment still for me... few weeks to go!

My BMI is teetering on the edge of 30 and no doubt at the doctors scales it'll be higher, so i'll be in the same category there too, from what i read the lifestyle thing can be declined it's just offered. I'll be declining if need be, i already eat healthy and exercise! I really am hoping they don't go on about weight, its something I hate talking about, and my mums a nurse midwife so she's been whining about it for years at me already to make sure i'm healthy etc etc! Lost a load of weight in 2019-2020 but it's slowly crept back on again... though not back to where I was before still more than i'd like!

Eirlys1986 · 08/06/2023 10:19

@RaspberryTime of course the screening situation is an anxious one, my cousin received a high risk Down’s syndrome result at a higher age and then paid privately for NIPT as it isn’t offered locally on nhs for us and she didn’t want amniocentesis and that test was then entirely normal. Whilst I could do the triple screen on nhs then get the harmony if needed after I just felt like I don’t even want to potentially receive a high risk screening result as I am the kind of person whereby if I then got a normal harmony result I would still feel anxious about it thus why I decline the nhs screening. It’s all a personal decision though.

Mushroo · 08/06/2023 10:29

I’ve got my NIPt booked for next Saturday when I’ll be 12 weeks. (Annoyingly the place I’m using had no slots for this week when I’m 11 weeks).

Turns out my NHS scan will be two days later, so it seems a bit silly having both so close together but it is what it is! Hopefully they both come back low risk and I can relax and tell people.

I’ve a natural worrier and already agreed with DH if we get bad news I’m booking a luxury long haul holiday to somewhere with Zika, as I’ve been avoiding anything like that for about a year and we’ll try again in 2024.

cossie13 · 08/06/2023 10:57

Morning all,

I feel like I've missed a lot in 24 hours! Hope you're all doing ok?

RaspberryTime · 08/06/2023 11:38

@Eirlys1986 @suz2285 @Mushroo There’s so much to think about isn’t there. I think if money wasn’t tight then getting the NIPT/Harmony is something I’d do in an attempt to ease the anxiety. As it stands, DH has just found out he’s being made redundant so I’m at the mercy of the NHS on this one. Think I’ll be spending the next few weeks in worry-overdrive 😫

Misspotterscat · 08/06/2023 11:39

I had my scan today. Measuring 6+4, so a day behind where I thought I was, saw baby’s heartbeat. They said everything looks ok ❤️

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/06/2023 11:49

@RaspberryTime sorry to hear about your husband hopefully he finds something soon.

Since there’s no time limit for the NIPT I’m just waiting to see what the NHS results are as I don’t want to shell out money and then have the NHS do the same test for free. I get that if it’s bad news i’d be a few weeks further on but it would be unpleasant no matter when.

I have wondered about the sex reveal on the private NIPT as I’ve read from others that it is a bit odd to read it on an email but then if I pay for the test it is included and basically 100% accurate and scans although rare can get it wrong. So I’m not sure what to do. I don’t know if there’s an option to receive the sex separately. It’s our last baby and we never found out the sex last time so I do quite like the idea of getting a scan and going home with some gender reveal item to find out together in a fun way.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/06/2023 11:49
