Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

Haaka breast pump was good, I also had a Tommee Tippee electric one which was ok. It always massively varied how much I got with either though. Sometimes loads, sometimes very little. I remember throwing it across the room once after I pumped for about half an hour and got about 10 mls 😂 Defo going to try and pump again though, it does give a bit of flexibility/freedom to be able to give some bottles.

BeaKind · 11/07/2023 22:15

@OrionNebula I feel your pain! I never got much pumping last time. Would take me about an hour to get enough for one feed. Then I would be so annoyed if/when baby didn’t have it all or it got spilt. I have a friend who gets looooads pumping really quickly. I’m so jealous!

I’ve seen the Elvie stride recently and like the look of that. It’s wearable, so I’d be able to do stuff while it’s going and then if I only get 30ml in half an hour I’ve not had to totally waste my time being tied to the sofa 😅

My midwife told me this week to keep an eye out for patterns of movement. I'm 25 weeks and only started feeling tiny movements at 23 weeks due to an anterior placenta.
There isn't really a pattern atm and it still just feels like flutters that I sometimes wonder if it's just wind travelling through my body.
Sometimes I feel it in the morning when I wake up and then again when I get into bed at night.
I am feeling it right now but didn't this morning and I was on my feet all day yesterday and hardly felt anything.
I feel quite stressed that I need to be looking for a pattern so early.
She told me that if I don't feel it I need to be monitored.
Anyone else struggling?

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 12/07/2023 10:53

@Onethingiwantfor23 it’s really really hard to find a pattern with anterior placenta because you never know if they’re just kicking the placenta where you can’t feel it! I’m almost 27 weeks now and am just getting to grips with a bit of a pattern (6.30am and 11pm are both popular times for bump) but please don’t stress. You also won’t notice the bumps if you’re on your feet, partially because baby is soothed by movement so kicks less when you’re on the go!

Onethingiwantfor23 · 12/07/2023 11:01

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween Thanks for that. That's reassuring. I was just really put off by the having to go in for monitoring if I don't feel much when I already don't feel much.
I'm having extra growth scans (first one at 28 weeks) so that'll be helpful I guess.

I'm also guessing I'll feel more the bigger it gets as the movements will be stronger.
I don't know anyone who's had an anterior placenta so nobody in real life can advise me.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 12/07/2023 11:04

@Onethingiwantfor23 happy to help! I was lucky in that one of my close friends had one so have been able to ask her when I’ve had questions and my midwife has been very straightforward about explaining what I might experience with anterior. Please ask away if you have any questions!

Onethingiwantfor23 · 12/07/2023 11:17

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween Thanks so much 😌

Sagittarius25 · 12/07/2023 11:27

@Onethingiwantfor23 im 24 weeks and have my 25 week appointment next week, so will see what midwife says but she previously mentioned they don't ask for pattern monitoring until 26-28 weeks when pattern is more likely established. However yes I am already finding the thought of monitoring movements stress inducing! I think a lot of people do. Luckily I feel baby boy alot of the time because of posterior placenta, however still worry already if he has a quiet few hours!

ES1986 · 12/07/2023 14:06

@Onethingiwantfor23 I’m 24 weeks and there’s some kicking, but it’s not a consistent pattern. On Monday I was nervous cos I didn’t feel anything until nearly 7pm, but then the baby seemed to be shifting about all evening!

Most says the baby will kick after I’ve eaten at night and I’m just watching TV, but during the day there’s no predicting whether it’s active or sleeping.

peonygirl · 12/07/2023 14:48

I just came back from the hospital where I was to meet with a consultant. They kept me waiting 2h and then consultant's assistant saw me and asked me why did they schedule my appointment today :S seriously, I am exhausted again, for nothing. Literally I reported on all movements, indigestion, sleeping pattern and she was making notes! No sign of the consultant, they'll see me at 28w - I haven't met the consultant in person yet, just a phone call. I am a bit disappointed because they hyped me up so much about being pregnant at my age and how I need to be monitored, but now they seem to think I am totally fine on my own (which is true but then don't panic before you meet me no?).

I can confirm that regular movements are not something you can observe before 26w ( I am now 24 weeks) as I specifically addressed this issue and was told not to worry, as long as I feel him morning/evening it is fine. She actually sympathised with me as my boy starts kicking at 4am - he's been quite regular between 4-6am every day for about a week now.

@Onethingiwantfor23 try not to worry too much, as long you can feel the baby every day they should be ok. You will fill them more as they grow and then don't be surprised when they kick you so much you feel nauseous :) I have experienced that twice now - I am hoping he can be a pro footballer so I have my pension secured😂

doeandfawn · 12/07/2023 14:52

24+2, fundal placenta and I feel baby some days only for a short 20 minute interval in the evenings. Trying to not worry about it until 28 weeks.

cruciverbalista · 12/07/2023 15:10

@peonygirl what a pain! I had my 28 wk growth scan and consultant meet yesterday. It was very anticlimactic. Was meant to be about my fibroids but the imaging wasn't good and I only spoke to the consultant for 30 seconds. They were worried about possible infection in my urine sample and barely mentioned anything else. I guess that means everything's going fine? Looking forward to catching up with my midwife about it next week as she at least always has time for me.
Bab is looking good though, getting big and kicking a lot at 27+3. His femur length was 10th percentile, but again, they didn't seem worried about it.

peonygirl · 12/07/2023 15:34

@cruciverbalista I see you have a similar experience. I will just take it as "everything is ok, so enjoy it" moment :) I am just upset that I am wasting time and I get so tired in that overcrowded waiting room. Let's see what week 28 will bring but reading your experience I won't expect too much - I still have midwife and glucose appointments before that.

NSx · 12/07/2023 16:13

I will mimic what a lot of ladies have said in here.

My midwife advised that I only need to start following a pattern for the baby kicking around 28ish weeks.

she also advised if I don’t feel anything to have a cold drink, biscuit or lie on my left side for an hour.

She also gave me this leaflet which I’m happy to share with anyone who’s interested. 🤍

WhatTodoALL · 12/07/2023 17:18

@cruciverbalista I have my 28th week growth scan on Friday. 4 weeks ago all was 50th percentile. Now I am worried what will new scan show 😬 Did they set up more growth scans for you?

cruciverbalista · 12/07/2023 17:47

@WhatTodoALL Just one at 36 weeks to check position. I wouldn't worry about percentiles too much-- they can't all be perfectly average!

Sagittarius25 · 13/07/2023 08:15

Anyone else getting kicked in the cervix? 😩 it's happened a couple of times and then yesterday evening there were a couple that actually gave me a lighting crotch sensation. I've now just spent the whole car journey to work feeling like my cervix was being used as a trampoline - really not the nicest sensation! Slightly scared how much worse the cervix kicks will get as he grows! 😂

Smiffette · 13/07/2023 10:54

@Sagittarius25 just last night he did twice and it made me jump! Not pleasant!

I'm feeling super tired today.... honestly could just go fall asleep in bed. I am not a napper normally and actually had a good night sleep. This little guy is just sucking the energy out of me.

26+2 today! My app tells me 13+5 to go and that gets me super excited! Especially how quick time is going at the mo! And I realised too that it means only 11 weeks left of work!! will be in single figures before I know it! 😃 I really can't wait to meet this little guy ❤️❤️❤️ feels like baby no 1 all over again!

ES1986 · 13/07/2023 12:45

@Sagittarius25 baby’s kicking me everywhere it feels like at the moment, cervix included.

I feel a bit dodgy from last night’s tea as well as a bad night’s sleep I think, and the kicks aren’t helping!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 13/07/2023 13:05

@Sagittarius25 Ouch! Thankfully not cervix so far but I have been kicked (or punched?) in the butt a couple of times! Mines been super active for the past few days - at quite funny times as well so it’s felt a bit like they’re replying to conversations 😂

Sagittarius25 · 13/07/2023 13:08

I've had kicks all over really, 25 weeks tomorrow and have had episodes of kicks up around and above my belly button, but then he seems to have days where he's low again/limbs are low which are now delivering the painful blows below!

And yes I've also had some kicks to my butt which is again an odd sensation 😂

Summer022 · 13/07/2023 16:18

All of the kicks I have had so far have been super low down. He’s been so active lately and I absolutely love it 🥰 25 weeks today and 15 to go. Does anyone else feel like time is absolutely flying right now? Compared to the first trimester at least!!! Trying to work out currently when to finish work. Does everyone plan on finishing slightly earlier or working right up until near the due date? Xx

monsteramunch · 13/07/2023 16:30

I'm working until a week before my c section @Summer022 😬 The joys of being self employed - everyone thinks I can swan off whenever I want... I wish!!

I completely agree it's absolutely flying, I'm 26 weeks now and can't believe how quickly it's going Flowers

Sagittarius25 · 13/07/2023 16:32

@Summer022 I'm going at 36 weeks, using two weeks holiday and then maternity starting

kingfisher168 · 13/07/2023 17:50

@Summer022 in the same boat, 5kme is flying so fast now!

I'm taking a week and a bit off before DD, though have originally planned to work right up to it. Lots of women said they were so glad they took a week off before, just so that you can get all relaxed and ready. And you never know, they might come early..
