@ThomasinaLivesHere I’ve been thinking this too, I had a cold pretty much constantly from October last year, it was awful.

My GP text me to say I’ll be eligible for flu jab (and whooping cough from 16 weeks) so I’m definitely going to get booked in.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 09/06/2023 15:53

Bear in mind some cold symptoms could be hayfever. Tree pollen is coming up at the minute, and extra grass pollen following the end of no-mow May.

Clucket87 · 09/06/2023 15:57

I've used this for my hay fever and it was fab.

It's suitable in pregnancy! I spent forever in the store reading all the labels.

Hi all!

Had a short break as we got married on Thursday so been a bit off radar! Had the most amazing day, now back in baby mode! Quite glad to have more time to think now tbh…Our 12 week scan is on 16th next week, so excited. I keep questioning if there is even a baby in there in between scans and getting myself in a spin so it is really needed right now.

Random question also, is anyone still sleeping on their backs? Or has everyone now migrated to sleeping on their side? I’m struggling to find a comfortable position atm - although no bump at all yet.

Charlielechat · 10/06/2023 09:05

Congratulations @smldnlove lovely news!!

I'm still doing a bit of both really, fall asleep on my side but sometimes lie on my back at night too. I think it's more later second trimester you have to worry about it but I could be wrong!

RG84 · 10/06/2023 10:21

@smldnlove congratulations, I hope you had a wonderful day!!

I am between both, lying on my back and on my side. I'm more comfortable on my side though as normally I sleep on my side in general.

Rainbowdust557 · 10/06/2023 11:02

@smldnlove Congratulations! I hope you had a lovely time!

Had my 12 week scan (finally) I really timed the water wrong/drank too much beforehand. OMG I've never needed the loo so much in all my life! 😂 I could have hugged the sonographer when he said let's do a quick scan and then you can go to the toilet and come back. 🤣 Measuring slightly behind so due date of 17/12. Baby was bobbing around happily! Feeling like I can get excited now! Telling family today 🥰

Hope you're all doing well and hope those of you who are feeling rubbish feel better soon. The pollen count is really high at the mo so that's probably not helping. The nose bleeds have started for me - pregnancy has so many little gifts! 😂

Rainbowdust557 · 10/06/2023 11:04

@smldnlove I think it's after 28 weeks that they say not to sleep on your back. I'm tossing and turning all over the place at the mo! x

SMG1992 · 10/06/2023 11:25

I’ve started sleeping on my side to get used to it.
I’ve got a pregnancy pillow which helps with uncomfortableness
I bought some baby clothes today!! So exciting that I can do that now! X

DaisyMay25 · 10/06/2023 12:55

@smldnlove congratulations!

I'm a front sleeper so no issues yet but I remember last time when my bump was too big to front sleep I really struggled getting comfy!

@SMG1992 I daren't get my pregnancy pillow put, husband hated it last time 😂
I'll probably buy some stuff after my scan on Wednesday

I woke up at 2am last night and my heart was raving and I was having cramps, rushed to the toilet expecting blood but none.
Had a few cramps this morning I'm still paranoid, convinced myself my heart was racing as result of losing baby last night. Only four days til scan though.
I know realistically it's probably my IBS and it's hard to identify where the cramps are coming from. I hate early pregnancy so much.

smldnlove · 10/06/2023 13:07

Thanks all for your congratulations! ✨

I’ve got a pregnancy pillow actually so will start using it now and see if it helps. I’m tossing and turning as well, some positions really aren’t comfortable now. We’re going away tonight to Morocco for a few days so hoping to get a better rest on holiday.

@DaisyMay25 Oh gosh that sounds quite unnerving, but I’m glad there was no blood and all seems good today. Scan will be a huge relief for you! Early pregnancy is such an emotional rollercoaster!

wannabemum38 · 10/06/2023 13:21

@smldnlove congratulations hope you had a lovely day ours is in 11 weeks time can't believe it!
My best friend said pregnancy pillow is the best thing to invest it so comfy but her partner hated it haha
We have told ppl now about baby feeling very real and getting a bit bumpy!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 10/06/2023 19:30

@smldnlove congratulations!
I’m still sleeping on back. Last pregnancy as soon as I heard about sleeping on side I started doing it and then only read the details about it only being necessary at a certain stage and by then I’d passed it. I’m putting off changing as much as possible as I started to get fed up of doing it last time.

wannabemum38 · 10/06/2023 22:59

Anyone know what I can put on insect bites I get them really badly and usually only strong insect bite cream and antihistamine tablets work. They come up in lumps and I've already got 1 bad one on wrist which won't shift but literally all creams they say we can't use. I've tried vinegar and ice cubes and all sorts but still.itch like mad!

HeleneLyon · 11/06/2023 08:22

Hi all!
I'm new to mumsnet, I joined to be able to discuss pregnancy as this is my first one ever!
Baby due 2/12. I'm 37. All good on my 12-week scan (baby wouldn't sit still for photos!) Apart from a small fibroid far enough - they said it wasn't a concern.
First trimester went fine, no sickness at all, just tiredness. This week I had 3 nosebleeds, but I think it's also because of all the constant temperature changes and high pollen count.
Question: how is your bump? Mine is starting to grow, so I need to start looking at maternity trousers and more flowy tops. I'm not ready yet for my students to know (I am a teacher in a secondary school) even though I've told most of close colleagues. Do you have any tips on where to find maternity clothes?

Kaspery8 · 11/06/2023 09:07

@wannabemum38 I was about to recommend eurax crotamiton cream but having double checked it says not suitable for pregnancy, so I must have imagined checking before putting it on a bite myself that blew up to the size of a £2 coin a few weeks ago.
I must now avoid fretting about that mistake (was only the once as it did a great job 😬)
Having had a Google I'll try one of these if it happens again https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/hydrocortisone-skin-cream/
My main issue post insect bites is I either get cellulitis or an infection (thanks body!) not sure if yours is the same.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 11/06/2023 09:33

@HeleneLyon for my last pregnancy I got a lot of maternity clothes from Asda as I didn’t want to spend much money and the stuff I got was decent and lasted well.

bookbathnap · 11/06/2023 10:05

@HeleneLyon welcome and congratulations! We have the same due date and I am 36 so similar age. My bump has really started to show this past week. I’m generally wearing leggings or floaty dresses and have only bought a couple of pairs of actual maternity leggings second hand on Vinted. I don’t believe it’s necessary to buy loads of actual maternity clothes but you do what’s best for you. The brand of leggings I got was LoveLeggings. Wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy x

wannabemum38 · 11/06/2023 11:30

@Kaspery8 ah thank you that's helpful will have to get some
@HeleneLyon congratulations! I've bought a few items on vinted got a practically brand new pair of maternity jeans for 1.50. A lot of my clothes are bump friendly anyway so apart from some leggings i don't need much hopefully!

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/06/2023 12:21

Has anybody else's baby been asleep during the 12 week scan. Our baby barely moved (moved loads on 10 wewk scan). Now wondering if this is really unusual after seeing everybody else's babies being so active (as we're my 3 previous babies on 12 week scan)

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 11/06/2023 12:25

@17caterpillars1mouse same here, very active on 10 week scan, jumping around, hiding etc.

12 week scan, appeared to be napping, trying to cover it's face with its hand, bar a single big hiccup while trying to measure 😂 heart beat was clear and strong though. Must have just caught it a bit sleepy. Sonographer didn't seem concerned.

wannabemum38 · 11/06/2023 13:49

@17caterpillars1mouse Mine was asleep at start of 12 week scan too on its side hands to face. Sonographer lowered the bed to try to get it to move then it was wriggling too much lol
I've had period like cramps just under my bump all weekend now its not painful just uncomfortable but it's there on and off all day but worse at night. I've got backache today too. No other issues no bleeding etc I'm a little hit constipated I think. My mum reckons it's just uterus stretching but my over anxious brain is getting worried.

DaisyMay25 · 11/06/2023 14:35

@wannabemum38 sounds like what I've been having. Good possibly be round ligament pain but it's so hard to not worry

Rainbowdust557 · 11/06/2023 14:59

@wannabemum38 were your pains when you move over in bed? Sneezing for me is a pretty painful experience 🤣 That's round ligament pain. All normal and ok apparently even though it doesn't feel like it! You do get a lot of stretching pains as everything is shifting up. See if resting a bit helps ease it but call your midwife if you're still worried. x

@HeleneLyon I found H&M quite good for maternity clothes (bigger stores only) but I did find maternity clothes quite difficult to find last time round. I think New Look also have a maternity range. Can you tell I'm not really an online shopper?! 🤣 If you have any NCT sales round you they are an amazing place for picking up maternity bits. (You don't have to be a member to go) x

wannabemum38 · 11/06/2023 15:08

@Rainbowdust557 resting does help a bit its mainly when I walk for a while and when I move over in bed. Also when I sneeze hard doesn't like that.
I don't have any details for my midwife yet as not had appointment with her yet. All stuff been done at antenatal clinic at hospital so they say call them or the EPU
