Hope everyone’s scans go well. I’ve still two weeks until mine being that I’m due at the end of December. It’ll be good when we’re in the second trimester as there will hopeful be fewer worries.

Hi everyone!

Has anyone else not gotten their scan appointment yet?

I am 12 weeks pregnant and haven't heard from the hospital yet.

I am in Birmingham.

I have my midwives appointments though xx

Hi @hotpotlover,

I hope your got your date now, if not I saw my date pop up on the app before the letter came through, no address though on there. (I'm Midlands). If you've still not heard, definitely chase that up. It took about a week or just over for mine to come through following my first midwife appointment.

Dancingqueen91 · 06/06/2023 09:14

Hi guys

Got my first midwife appointment today absolutely hate bloods being taken … better get used to that 😩

Has anyone got good stretch mark cream recommendations please ? And is it time to start using them now ?

I hope you’re all 🫶🏼

Mushroo · 06/06/2023 09:51

@Dancingqueen91 ill also take any stretch mark recommendations, I might treat myself to something nice!

10w +3 today and the exhaustion has reached a whole new level. I slept for 9.5 hours last night according to my Fitbit and I’m still shattered. Was tempted to take the day off work it’s that bad but I have a big presentation I need to do.

Hoping I’ll feel less tired soon - bring back week 9 where I felt great!

17caterpillars1mouse · 06/06/2023 10:02

Is anyone stressing about sleep positions yet, I keep trying to sleep on my left side but keep waking on my back / right side as I find my left side so uncomfortable. I can't remember at what stage this becomes an issue? I just remember from previous pregnancies that back and right side sleeping is linked to placenta issues / stillbirth etc

wannabemum38 · 06/06/2023 10:28

@Dancingqueen91 @Mushroo I've just bought Palmers stretch cream was on offer in superdrug. Not too sickly smelling so quite soothing at night to rub into belly and boobs.
@17caterpillars1mouse I've had to start sleeping on side as other day slept on my back and felt dizzy when I woke up. Not great. My MW said from about 14 weeks but I think when you know you know. I'm 13+4 now

OnNaturesCourse · 06/06/2023 11:48

I believe its no back sleeping from mid way thro 2nd trimester. I found with my other pregnancies that by that point it was too uncomfortable to lie like that anyway but did often wake up on my right side. MW assured me that as long as you fall asleep on the left it's OK. DP used to roll me over in my sleep too 😂

Small achievement today I managed to take my pregnancy vitamins today and not heave. First time I've managed to get them into me since I was 6 weeks, shamefully!

SMG1992 · 06/06/2023 12:11

Hi All,
I had my scan today and all is well and healthy, I'm 12+6 so will be in 2nd trimester tomorrow which is so exciting!
I'm so pleased that the scan went well and feel like I can start getting excited about it all now!
I hope all the other scans this week go well!

Justanothercyster · 06/06/2023 12:32

Happy to log on and see positive news about scans :) have to wait until next weds for mine still 😒 12+2 today.

Is anyone still feeling sick after 12 weeks? It's gotten worse again in the last few days and I'm so fed up

Makes me happy and excited to see positive scans and everyone doing well enough xx
Mine is this Thursday, counting down the hours!
For stretch marks and skin moisture, I've always used 'Burts Bees, MAMA'
Smells great too xxx

bookbathnap · 06/06/2023 13:03

@Justanothercyster yes! The sickness went away for a few days at 12 weeks and I was so excited. Then it came back with a vengeance at week 13. Today is better though so fingers crossed. Hope things improve for you too.

NoodleQueen90 · 06/06/2023 13:09

For stretch marks, my expert midwife serum feels lovely but I can't stomach the smell, if you don't like sweet smells it might be ok though, it's kind of lavender-ish with a herby after smell 😂
My little coco smells lovely but dries in all sticky and doesn't feel like it moisturises much.
I'm currently putting on Brazilian bum bum cream after my shower which is not for stretch marks at all but it moisturises, dries in nice and quick and smells amazing!!

17caterpillars1mouse · 06/06/2023 14:00

@Justanothercyster

I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and nausea is still strong. I get it for about 4 hours after eating or drinking anything so I no longer eat breakfast so my mornings are at least productive. Polo mints are helping slightly. My nausea is worst in the evenings.

I had nearly managed a week without throwing up though but threw up dinner last night.

This is by far my best pregnancy regarding sickness though (throwing up all day everyday for 30 weeks with dd1 and 20 weeks for dd2) so trying not to feel too sorry for myself

LittleButtercup · 06/06/2023 14:04

For anyone looking for stretch mark/tummy butter recommendations, the one thing I would say is don't spend too much on expensive stuff! In my first pregnancy I spent an absolute fortune and obsessively applied oils/butters at least 2/3 times a day. I still ended up absolutely covered in really deep stretch marks all over my tummy by 35 weeks 😅
It just seems to be genetic, if you're going to get them then you will unfortunately! I'm just going to use some Palmer's tummy butter this time around to keep my bump hydrated.

Charlielechat · 06/06/2023 14:14

I was given Mama Mio tummy butter and it smells lovely and has great reviews. My expert midwife stuff is supposed to be very good too! From reading reviews it sound like they are most effective when you start using them from first trimester! Any bad reviews I read were from people starting in third trimester!

Pitstop1986 · 06/06/2023 14:39

In my last pregnancy I used L'occitaine shower oil. I had some given to me as a birthday present and you use it like a shower gel in the shower. Left my skin feeling silky smooth and I didn't have to spend ages rubbing on lotions, etc.

When I did use a moisturiser, I just used coconut oil- the same type you use for cooking! Also use it for moisturiser on my daughter when she was born (and still do now)

I didn't get any stretch marks!

I also read that zinc is helpful for skin elasticity and can help prevent stretch marks. If you're taking a pregnancy vitamin, there's usually zinc in that

Standard coconut oil is definitely a good shout. I used that on my daughter when she was born too, it worked wonders!

I've been taking prenatal vitamins that include zinc through both pregnancies (alongside tummy butter/oil from around 5 weeks during my first pregnancy) but I think I'm just one of the unlucky ones that is prone to really bad stretch marks! Oh well, I'm definitely less fussed about it this time around - the damage has already been done 😂

FirstMondayInMay · 06/06/2023 16:15

I picked up the Palmers stretch mark cream in home bargains last week for about £4, my tummy had been really itchy and it seems to have calmed it down for now!

GingerJanee · 06/06/2023 19:11

Hi all!

I took some time away mainly because I was on holidays and had a wedding etc so it’s been a busy few weeks. I haven’t managed to catch up fully on the chat but it’s definitely been busy 😂

Thought I’d update we had our 12 week scan last Thursday where the midwife confirmed my dates were correct (even though baby was measuring 10 days smaller at the private and EPU scan) so they’ve locked on the EDD as 14th December. I’m under consultant care also as I’ve asthma however I was advised this was could change as I progress whether it’s still a risk or lowers. Also, for everyone waiting on their scan I’m so excited for you it was amazing we could see the baby bouncing about the whole time and I couldn’t believe the difference in a few weeks! Hoping everyone is keeping well and the anxiety isn’t too much!

wannabemum38 · 06/06/2023 19:20

@FirstMondayInMay yeah I got that one from superdrug other day. Smells nice too
Well my boss was so lovely about it all today couldn't have been nicer and said work is just work at end of day a baby is an amazing thing. Just me and her know for now ill tell the rest of team when i feel ready. But yeah so relieved and no issue with time off for appointments etc

Charlielechat · 06/06/2023 19:31

@GingerJanee congratulations on your scan! Can I ask is your asthma severe? I'm also asthmatic so just wondering if that means I'll be under consultant care too. Scan and booking appointment are next week!

Thamantha · 06/06/2023 19:33

Is anyone else finding it hard to fit into their clothes already? I am 11+5 but have gained weight through eating g to manage the nausea, and my trousers can no longer do up. I have moved into dresses that have a more forgiving waistline.

GingerJanee · 06/06/2023 19:40

@Charlielechat My scan and booking appointment were together too, take water because I was there around 3 hours all in all and they asked my OH to leave for the bloods and midwife appointment. He was roasted waiting in the car 😂

No I’m on the brown inhaler (haven’t a clue what it’s even called) from January just 2 puffs at night, but I’ve also psoriasis and eczema and they said the asthma just needed followed up with the consultant. I expect it’s because I’m a little overweight prior to getting pregnant and it’s only going to get worse as I get bigger. The consultant could discharge me though after this appointment if they don’t think I’m any sort of risk so fingers crossed!

Charlielechat · 06/06/2023 19:50

@GingerJanee oh that is so long! Your poor OH 🙈 I'll expect the same then lol!
Ah OK! That's interesting - I'm on a steroid inhaler and also have strep B so I'm hoping for consultant led care 🤞 I'm such a worrier so think I'd feel better with that option!
