I am waiting my bloods from NHS it is a worrying time especially as I'm 42. We wouldn't be able to afford 500 for a private NIPT test as got wedding to pay for so I hope results come back OK enough to satisfy me.
I did have a yoga class booked but was sick this morning and really tired so gave it a miss. Hoping to go swimming tomorrow.

FirstMondayInMay · 03/06/2023 12:19

My sickness has returned with force! Excellent timing, I’m going to see Coldplay tonight and can’t keep anything down so far today😪

Nclktnntt · 03/06/2023 13:39

Hi everyone,

I’ve just come across this thread and mumsnet, knew it was a thing but never been on. Never been a mom. We’re due 31st Dec - estimated from the booking appointment. Scan is scheduled for 26th June, I’ll be 13weeks by then (going away next week for 10 days which will take me past the 12 week mark)

I’m placed in the low risk category which I think I’m happy about as I’m 39 this year. I have been struggling with feeling sick and being sick - for weeks 7,8&9 pretty much every mean or part of it would come back up, but this week I feel like we’ve turned a corner, Tue was bad but wed was not so bad and the last few days - heaving but no sick 😊 long May this continue. The hunger though !!! Oh my life, about an hour after eating I feel ravenous 😂 I have to eat roughly every hour to avoid heaving or being sick.

I have a question around bras - what are you all doing, I’m no longer fitting in any of usual bras, I’m not gifted in that area (usually a b) but non of mine fit anymore. Do we just need to buy bras relentlessly now or are there any special bras that adjust with us? (My husbands idea)

final question - where do I find translations for the abbreviations all over mumsnet? DH, DD, DC are the main ones I see but then there’s loads of others too.

thank you guys and I’m so happy for all of you getting your scans. I share similar pangs of concern as I’ve seen mentioned when it comes to waiting for the scan, especially as my sickness seems to be subsiding or I’m strangely worse at the beginning of the week vs the end for some reason (still working that out) and boobs arn't as sore this week. Still tender but they stopped being so tender last week.

Ty 😘

wannabemum38 · 03/06/2023 14:42

@FirstMondayInMay oh so jealous of you going to see them. Hope your sickness dies down prob tried all the usual things of ginger biscuits and dry crackers etc but drink plenty of water aswell and try have fun!

SMG1992 · 03/06/2023 16:42

@Nclktnntt welcome and congrats!
re bras I’m just wearing non wired sports bra type things at the moment which work for me as I don’t have big boobs and it feels like I have some room to grow into too

SunSparkle · 03/06/2023 18:18

@FirstMondayInMay i really feel for you. I’ve had an awful sickness day too. I wa sick in the street outside the post office which I’ve never been sick in public before. I felt mortified. And I’ve not managed to keep anything down today so I just feel weak and blah. Hoping tomorrow is better as today has been the worst.

Just wanted to share that I did private NIPT yesterday. It came with a compulsory scan which was wonderful. I had another scan at 8 weeks and I couldn't believe how much the baby had grown from a bean to a real person in 4 weeks. They showed us feet, leg, hands, fingers, heart, brain, blood flow and even rib cage. Mind-blowing!

The baby was ok and super active moving around. At one point both DH and I saw him/her waving at us :)

The scan brought me 3 days forward so they told me I am actually 11+6 instead of 11+3 based on LMP.

Now, all I have to do is wait for NHS scan and combined test on 12th. NIP result will take around 10-14 days so I don't think will get the result before my NHS NT.

wannabemum38 · 03/06/2023 21:24

@Nclktnntt I'm going to look at JoJoMaman Bebe tomorrow as they have 2 for 1 on nursing and maternity bras. Mt sports bra is getting too snug now and making me sweat.

Pitstop1986 · 03/06/2023 21:32

I got some from amazon called "Lemef nursing sleep bras, wirefree maternity breastfeeding bras"

Wore them during pregnancy, during breastfeeding, then just in general because they were so comfortable. A pack of 3 cost £20.99 so very reasonably priced too!

Highly recommend!

Sairrrxx · 03/06/2023 22:16

Thank you all! It was soo lovely seeing he/she wriggling around, even done a somersault 😂 took a while to complete all measurements as they didn't want to move positions, the sonographer even told me which ovary I ovulated from at conception which was interesting, I never got told that with my first.

As for the spotting she did say it was common as long as not bright red and getting heavier with pains, but she also said i had a retroverted uterus so that could cause some discomfort during sex and may have caused a little bleed but not 100%
Huge congratulations to everyone else on their scans too, it's so lovely to see xx

Nclktnntt · 04/06/2023 09:59

Thank you for the bra suggestions - going to look into those today 😊

TulipVictory · 04/06/2023 11:40

I'm in a serious predicament, does anyone know what I can do? I would have had my scan almost two weeks ago but unfortunately I had to reschedule as I was away on holiday. So am now back and was meant to be having it tomorrow at 13+4 weeks (was so excited), however, today I've started feeling awful. I'm a healthcare worker so took an LFT and it's positive for covid 😩 I'm not going to be able to go to the scan am I?! And I'm also going to miss out on the down's testing and getting an accurate due date aren't I?! 😩😩 can't phone the scanning department today as they are shut 😩

RG84 · 04/06/2023 12:04

@TulipVictory I'm sorry to hear you have been feeling unwell. Look I know when testing positive for covid it's best to keep in doors but you're right, there is a cut of period on the blood tests. and what is the likehood you will get a positive within a week. Wear a mask, limit your contact and go to your appointment. You'll be out 2 hours tops, personally I would still go.

I had a serve cough and actually still have one. I've had it for 3 weeks and when I want to my gp, they couldn't give me anything because I'm pregnant. I then had my booking appointment last week and I was wearing a mask. I asked the midwife to also wear a mask and she was very happy to do so. She also said cold and coughs are more likely to happen in pregnancy and takes longer to recover.

Ladies no judgement here but this is just my opinion.

FirstMondayInMay · 04/06/2023 12:22

@TulipVictory i’d also go! There aren’t any strict rules surrounding isolation anymore, although it’s not ideal, if you explain to the sonographer and ask them to wear a mask too, I’m sure it’ll be fine!

@wannabemum38 luckily my sickness settled and I was able to eat something before Coldplay and ended up really enjoying myself! I think I’m getting into a cycle of being sick and then not eating because I’ve been sick, which is making me feel even more sick, if they even makes sense😂

@SunSparkle oh no! I hope you’re feeling a bit better today and have managed to keep something down x

Oldermum84 · 04/06/2023 12:29

Sorry @TulipVictory there's no way I'd go to a hospital when I had covid. My appointment letter was very clear not to go if you had any cough or cold symptoms... I felt guilt going to mine with hay fever! Hospitals are full of very sick people and it's unfair to take covid there. Phone them in the morning and ask what to do.

DaisyMay25 · 04/06/2023 13:07

@TulipVictory I work in antenatal and can't go in if I have anything contagious really. Pregnant people are of a higher risks to things so it's too much of a risk.
I personally wouldn't go until you had a negative test. Unfortunately this does mean you can't have NT test just a quad.
This is just my opinion though and what I'd do obviously

TulipVictory · 04/06/2023 13:07

I phoned triage she basically said... that they will contact my community midwife to come to my house and bring me some extra monitoring so they can keep an eye on my oxygen levels 😬 she said I need to ring the scanning department at 9am and see what they say.. she said they may rearrange it for another time or they may gown and glove up but she’s not sure just to ring them then. The problem is my scan is meant to be at 10:10 😬

TulipVictory · 04/06/2023 13:08

@DaisyMay25 what's a quad test? Is it less accurate than the NT ? thanks 😊 x

DaisyMay25 · 04/06/2023 13:09

@TulipVictory that's great they're doing all that for you, they might open at 8 so worth calling them as soon as they do. You're just gonna have to wait until the morning.

DaisyMay25 · 04/06/2023 13:13

@TulipVictory so NT takes measurements from the NT and with that tests for Down's syndrome, edwards and patau. The quad test just tests for Down's syndrome but without the NT measurement so it's less accurate, it can be down until about 16/17 weeks I think with most accuracy

wannabemum38 · 04/06/2023 15:25

@FirstMondayInMay Glad you felt well enough to go. I'm the same feel sick and sick during night then sometimes in morning don't want to eat but makes me feel worse. I think later I eat at night and if I eat dairy before bed like chocolate or ice cream seems to make me more sick. Hoping it eases off soon.

DaisyMay25 · 04/06/2023 18:59

I'm 11 weeks on Tuesday and feel like I can't decide between bloat and baby, this is my second so I knew I'd show early just not this early!

Charlielechat · 04/06/2023 20:37

Does anyone know any alternatives to bonjela that I could use for mouth ulcers? They don't normally go away until I put bonjela on them 😣 but NHS website says bonjela isn't recommended in pregnancy because of the choline salicylate in it.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 04/06/2023 20:41

@Charlielechat can you use corsodyl? Otherwise probably good old salt water gargle! Otherwise speak to dentist/GP?
