The NHS are very strict on no children at any scans and have been for years. When I lost a previous baby at 19 weeks we were rushed for a scan to confirm no heartbeat and we didn't have childcare for our dd, even then they wouldn't let her in so I had to have it confirmed baby had died on my own whilst dh looked after dd in the corridor.

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/05/2023 11:08

And dd was too young to understand what was going on so that wasn't the reason. They just have a blanket ban on no children

Soundbathfan · 31/05/2023 11:16

On the topic of NIPT tests, do these need to be done before week 14? Thanks for replies previously around what happens at the 12 week scan!
Scan is Friday but then I am away for 2 weeks... just wondering if I need to book a private one to get it in before the 14 week mark...
I may even be 13 weeks by Friday so potentially even tighter if NIPT does need to be done...

Smileyface32 · 31/05/2023 11:21

@FlyingHighFlyingLow thank you..will double check the letter 😊

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 31/05/2023 11:23

@Smileyface32 I wouldn't just check the letter, I'd ring them. You don't want to turn up and find they won't let you in.

@Soundbathfan Combined test must be done before 14 weeks, after that the quad test is the free test. NIPT can be done at any point I believe but will need to be done privately unless you get a high risk result on one of the other tests.

Smileyface32 · 31/05/2023 12:05

@FlyingHighFlyingLow just checked and it said no children. My husband will wait outside with her so should be ok. Really wanted my daughter to see

Justanothercyster · 31/05/2023 13:22

I can't make sense of that scan @Marvelmommy but trust the sonographer!

Aww yay @DaisyMay25 glad it went ok.

@Farcry66 sorry about the bleeding :( hopefully it was a one off

@Smileyface32 we've been told we can't take children for the nhs one

@17caterpillars1mouse I'm so sorry you had to go through that on your own 💔

I think my sickness has finally eased, but I've not been brave enough to not take the cyclizine first thing in the morning yet 🙈 11+3 today and it feels like torture that I have to wait until the 14th for the nhs scan 🙄

@Justanothercyster I keep thinking my sickness is better. I've stopped my tablets to see if it has or it was them and I feel much better than I did two weeks ago but still have bad episodes. Being out and about is the worse for me. I'm only 10+1 though so hopefully it's only gonna get better!

FirstMondayInMay · 31/05/2023 15:34

Just got back from my scan, measuring at 11+6, so only 8 days in front of what I thought after probably ovulating late. Mentioned the dizziness I’ve been having and the high BP yesterday and have been started on a low dose of meds to try and stop it spiralling later into the pregnancy.

hope everyone’s doing well today!

This is probably going to come across harsher than I mean it, but these are medical scans and really aren't a place for children. Unfortunately some people find out at these scans they've had a MMC or their babies have possible abnormalities and are getting referred to fetal medicine or are unlikely to survive to term. They don't want a child present when they break that news. It could even be another woman that finds out her baby girl is unlikely to survive and has to leave the room and see you with your little girl, seeing what could have been.

If you'd like your daughter to see the baby I'd encourage you to book a private scan once the NHS medical scans have shown all is OK. They're much more family friendly than the NHS scan which was very much medical and matter of fact, talking about looking for cysts, haematomas etc.

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2023 16:08

@FlyingHighFlyingLow I echo everything you just said. The sonographers at work have too much to look at and children can distract, my son certainly would make it difficult.

Private scan we went to last night was great though, even had toys in the scan room and she was answering all his silly questions!

Strongly reccomended one for little ones to get involved and try to understand.

Thanks lovely, biggest relief today when we see little peanuts heart beating. The back pain is still bad, but they've said it's the uti, so I'm feeling a lot more hopeful.

I hope you're doing OK and looking after yourself 💙

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2023 18:37

@Georgia31 that's such good news! UTI's can be awful and back ache sounds like maybe kidneys too. Try and drink loads to flush it out can't be too careful with kidneys!

RG84 · 31/05/2023 18:56

@Georgia31 that's great news! So glad everything is fine, what a relief as I know the feeling.

I hope everyone is doing okay.

I had my booking appointment today (10+5) they did the usual blood tests and urine.
They said the screen is only done on the 12 week scan which will be on the 14th June at 12+5.

Did everyone else have there's on the 13 week scan unless you went private?

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2023 19:03

@RG84 what screen do you mean?

RG84 · 31/05/2023 19:06

@DaisyMay25 apologise I mean the screening blood tests.

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2023 19:08

@RG84 ahh yes this is standard. Basically for it they need to make sure you're in the correct measurements for a combined test as well as able to get an NT measurement. If they cannot get the NT measurement or you're further along it'll be a quad test. They have to write the info on the form that gets sent with the blood.
Hope that makes sense
(I take blood for these tests 😂)

RG84 · 31/05/2023 19:15

@DaisyMay25 ah thank you so much for the info. Understood :) Roll on 14th June!

I'm debating whether to get a private scan done before the 14th to ensure all is fine. By the time I decide it will probably be the 14th!

DaisyMay25 · 31/05/2023 19:16

@RG84 we've only got two weeks left to wait, doesn't feel that long ago I said 23 days and now it's 14, it's coming round quickly! This second trimester can't come quickly enough 🙌🏻

RG84 · 31/05/2023 19:25

@DaisyMay25 gosh time really is flying when you say it like that. 14 days, 2nd trimester!

I have been suffering the worst headaches, in the heat and whilst pregnant. Thankfully I work from home but even still 😭

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/05/2023 20:17

14 weeks today and pretty sure i just felt the flutters of baby. Seems early though, with my other pregnancies the earliest I've felt movement is 17 weeks, plus pretty sure my placenta is at the front this time which makes movement later and not as strong (had the same with youngest dd). But it was in the right place and definitely felt like a flutter, not gas

midnights0 · 31/05/2023 21:02

I’m 10+1 today and I just had my tooth removed at the back earlier on today. The tooth was causing me insane amount of pain and grief, wasn’t sleeping or eating. I literally wanted to jump out the window 😢 thank god it’s out! Now the numbing is wearing off it’s starting to ache lol not as bad as the toothache, but still hurting me. When will it end. 😂 at least my morning sickness is gone

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/05/2023 21:40

@midnights0 I had a tooth removed after a bodge filling when pregnant with dd2. I still remember the pain, I swear it was worse than childbirth and I was induced on a drip with just gas and air lol. Truly awful tooth pain. I remember it did still hurt for a few days after removal but was fine very quickly. Fingers crossed it'll feel much better in a day or two
