I have suddenly become extremely weepy - to the point of embarrassment - midwife at clinic this morning said that that, coupled with bad period pains in the night and niggling back ache could mean imminent birth! Hurrah! Except it can't be today - Friday 13th! Motherinferior, are you getting nervous yet?

Dahlia · 13/06/2003 13:15

Happy Spider, where are you? What's happening????

Dahlia sounds like you're next! I also keep checking for Happyspider.
I had an antenatal appt and scan today(37 wks)the baby is 7lb approx. which is great as Dd wasn't growing properly at the end.
Now as well as some days feeling really emotional (me and dd watching disney cartoon yesterday I'm in tears and she's laughing) I'm also starting to get really scared about labour/birth. Is this just the reality sinking in?

motherinferior · 13/06/2003 16:51

My love, I have been nervous for the past nine months. Actually I don't think I'm likely to drop for the next couple of weeks - officially I've got four...but wow, good luck! mixxxxxx

Hi all
I am finally able to get on mumsnet!
James was born on Tuesday night at 7Pounds and is gorgeous.
Started with induction, but since the little one did not want to come out at all and was showing signs of distress, the consultant decided for a c section. I won't go into the gory details, just enough to say that it was all worth it!

Had the time to bond with baby at the hospital for the last few days, he's such a little cutie and I love to hold him after he's had a feed and he snoozes off and looks like a little angel.

Sometimes dh and I have to pinch ourselves just to make sure he is here sleeping in his little cradle by our bed as it seems to good to be true.

Thanks all for the words of support, Dahlia and MotherInferior, not long to go for you... good luck to you two. The feeling of achievement afterwards is amazing.
KMS, James was born at the same time as your posting last Tuesday: how spooky is that?

I will keep posting whenever I can, maybe next time at 3:00AM as James as a good habit to stay awake at night and checking on you ladies.

whymummy · 14/06/2003 22:25

happyspider · 14/06/2003 22:25

Sleep deprivation, now I know what they mean by that!

AliP · 15/06/2003 08:53

Congratulations Happy Spider - I'm so pleased for you (and so jealous!!)

we're now 40+4 and have tried curry (dh made it from scratch and it was v. nice!), fresh pineapple, champagne (good excuse to have a glass or two!) and sex (even though it made us laugh!) Any other ideas????

Spent all yesterday with contractions but very irregular in pattern, had back ache etc so just hoping that something happens soon.

motherinferior · 15/06/2003 09:05

Happyspider - how wonderful!

AliP - best of luck. It will come out, you know...

Appear to be getting practice contraptions here, mostly at night (and viciously upset stomach) but I expect they'll just go on another month or so. Or more.

kaz33 · 15/06/2003 09:37

Huge congrulations Happyspider.

Enjoy, the time flys by. My little bundle is now 16 days old...

Marina · 15/06/2003 19:32

Well done Happyspider! Welcombe James. how spooky I was thinking of you at that time!

I have been suffering pubic symphisis pain+++ over week end. Doc said today "at least you only have 5 weeks left" which was V. helpfull! Anyone got any suggestions? Am finding it very hard to run around after 5yr and 3yr boys!!

motherinferior · 17/06/2003 07:58

KMS, I'm afraid the only thing that stops the pain is not moving, or at the very least 'keeping your knees together'. Which isn't very helpful in your case - I'm sure you're doing this anyway (I find the hardest is sleeping with them jammed together, myself, particularly in this hot sweaty weather). I think paracetamol is probably in order. If - IF - your doc referrred you to a physio you might be able to get a big elastic belt, and some people find those help but personally I didn't (just squashed my tummy, not to speak of ripping my pubic hair out on its velcro). Pupuce recommends osteos WITH experience of working with pregnant women, and I'm sure that's a good idea if you can find one. Sorry to be so despondent. I have come to the conclusion SPD is really quite common and that doc are totally hopeless on it!

motherinferior · 17/06/2003 07:59

oh and there is also a website - check Pie's post about horrible backache, it's linked on there. Scary leaflet you can download about not giving birth in water (ignore that bit).

Thanx Bron and Motherinferior- finally got hold of my m/w today and she made me call docs and ask for emerg referal to phisio. doc has afternoon off (lucky him!) so will find out more tomorrow.

Sleep is very hard. turning in the night is agony. I do have a v shape pillow and many others to try and get comfy but this bump just gets in the way! what's comfy for the bump isn't for the SPD. someone at school said husbands belt around pelvis was as good as anything, so will try that, and walk as if i have a £5 note between knees at all times. Looks strange but does help until 3yr old makes a run for it!!
