Here is promised thread jessi! Congratulations too Ellasmum and jessi - Ellasmum, my due date will be about 20th July I think. Haven't seen any midwife or doctor yet - trying to remember what I did when last time!

I turn over in curious rolling motion the other way - manoevring over bump using my elbows. Then dp has the gall to say I wake him up. He's still snoring, by the way.

Frogling · 20/06/2003 22:28

Hi everyone, I'm suffering with SPD too, and still have seven weeks to go until my due date. It's so bad now that I have a belt (reminds you to keep your legs together but digs into you in all the wrong places!), a brace and have just been given a snazzy set of silver sticks to help me walk by my physio. DH says I have already become belligerent and have started waving the sticks about and prodding/moving things with them, but you've gotta have some fun when you're in almost constant pain.
I find bedtime the worst - like you, Bron, I can't lie on my left hand side as v painful and takes me ages to move again. On my right it is a little better, but still takes me about 10 mins to get out of bed - not good in the middle of the night when baby is bouncing on my bladder!
My physio says it can take up to 6 months to recover after giving birth, but am hoping to be lucky and have it magically disappear. Am seeing a specialist next week because they think I'll probably have to have a caesarean due to having a big baby last time round and not being able to open my legs very far.
Good luck to you, Bron - not long to go, and I hope it's as pain-free as possible for you!

I hate to have to say this, but my SPD didn't clear up completely at all last time. It did die down to residual twinges, but I had to fight to get some physio for it.

I find if I don't do much mine isn't too bad though - all things are relative. I can walk over to pick up dd from childminder, but one slip or attempt to hurry slightly and everything goes pearshaped.

When I saw the doc a few months ago she said oh it was a pity I had something so rare. It isn't rare, dammit. Loads of us have it!

Frogling · 22/06/2003 00:20

Thanks for the advice on the truss, Bron - will be buying one on Monday. Sod the expense, I want some comfort!
Don't know about the labour thing - I ended up having an emergency ceasar with DD as she was too big to push out (wish they'd told me that before my 48 hour labour!). Fortunately I am being closely monitored by my Obst. this time round, and am having a scan next week to see about size of baby number 2.
I have been warned that SPD can make labour more painful, and having had some Braxton Hicks this week, where the pain runs down my thighs, I am not looking forward to it. Also, how on earth do you open your legs wide enough to get the baby out without causing yourself unbelievable pain? I have been told that, if I can have a 'natural' birth, that it's best not to have an epidural as you can damage your pelvis further because you can't tell what positions hurt. All in all, not a nice thought at all - not sure which is the lesser of the two evils, but would prefer to try and do it naturally if poss.
Agree with you, Motherinferior - it is sooo not rare, it's just a lot of doctors and midwives don't seem to know anything about it or want to acknowledge it exists.
Am going to suggest to DH that he take the sofa for a few nights - would love a good sleep myself!

MaVictoria · 23/06/2003 08:19

Hi again, last post i added onto this thread was last month, i am due this saturday which makes me 39+2 today. Lastnight the babe was pushing down into my pelvis, thought he was going to engage and that my waters would break or something but no such luck! In a way i am glad as the heat is unbearable even with all the rain we had through the night, my bedroom feels like a sauna. My two oldest kids are at butlins with their dad, hope the weather is better for them there. I just have the youngest, my three year old at home and its so quiet and less messy so this last week i am getting the rest i need. Kids are due back Friday, so it would be nice if they came back to meet their new brother. Had a good pregnancy, hardly any probs, only swollen feet and ankles that are a pain. Well thats me again..will post everyday now till due date or even past it!! take care ladies, enjoy the last few days/weeks!!:-)

Lisita · 25/06/2003 18:25

Hello lovely ladies!!

Im so sorry I havent posted for so long!
I havent forgotten you its being too hectic in this front!!
My parents arrived from Argentina 10 days ago, and we havent stopped since!! We have been taking them around, we finished the baby shopping with my mum, and now Karls army mate from New Zealand is staying with us AS WELL since Sunday but he is leaving tmrw so thats ok, he just had nowhere to stay until he goes to Germany (he will be in Elmpt Station like us)
About Lucas, he has been giving me a tough time. Im having contractions and pains that get worse everyday, its quite scary. Im measuring 3 w ahead!! Both my midwives said he is gonna be early but still nothing I saw the obstetrician at the hospital cos ive got a heart murmur, im having an emergency heart scan on Monday and IM BEING INDUCED NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!! when i started to tell the doc about Germany and that the removals are coming 3 DAYS AFTER MY EDD to take most of the stuff from the house, she said "im gonna induce u before your EDD" i couldnt believe she was so keen!! Im seeing her tomorrow and she will give me A DATE!! and she is gonna stretch my membranes (???) to speed things up so my mw said Lucas will probably come any minute now and especially from tmrw onwards, she said he wont be later than this weekend!! So she thinks i wont need an induction at all lol !!
We have been trying to sort as much as we can for the moving before Lucas comes, so basically my life is very stresfull as u can see!!
Hope u r all ok and i promise to stay in touch!!
xxxxxxxxxx

Lisita · 27/06/2003 08:38

hi ya !!

Im a bit disappointed and fed up. Yesterday i saw the consultant at the hospital. After an internal, she said my cervix is not favourable for an induction (its close tight) and that the baby is not ready at all. His head is not even engaged! (its is into my pelvis though). She explained to karl and me that there was a 40 % risk of a cesarean if i had an induction next week given this circumstances, and that id probably need forceps and ventouse and that the induction might not even work or take up to 3 days!!!!!!! It was up to us to decide and we agreed we didnt want it. She advised to wait anyway. She will reasess me next Thursday and see how things are by then. She said that the fact that im getting so many pains and contractions is positive anyway, that it might change things from one day to the next. But she doesnt rule out the possibility that Lucas might be LATE!! i cant believe it. Im really stressed out now, cos my parents are supposed to be leaving on july 13 th (my EDD is the 11th) although of course they would stay if he is not born by then!! and the removals are taking most of our stuff on the 14th!!!!! not to mention that Lucas will be HUGE by then... and ill probably need a cesarean anyway!! (even the doctor said that) So next week we will decide wot to do maybe i can have an induction if things do change by then. Im having my heart scan on monday as well.

Ive put on lots of weight (i couldnt believe it when they weighed me yesterday), im swollen like a balloon, i cant stand my pains and hard tummy everytime i walk or stand up, i cant sleep at night, IM SOOOO FED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, hope u r ok, sorry for moaning but im very very disappointed. I thought i would have my baby next week and now everything is very uncertain. I cant believe both my mw and the same consultant got it so wrong until yesterday!!!

Lots of love

xxxxxxxxxx

musica · 27/06/2003 09:13

Lisita, sorry you're feeling disappointed - but they are right, that if you're not ready, then an induction probably wouldn't work, but you would then be stuck in the hospital - this happened to a friend of mine who was in hospital for 4 days before even going into labour. Is this your first baby? Lots of first babies are late - and if you can go into labour spontaneously that would probably be better anyway. But, I know how you feel - a week feels a long time at this stage, doesn't it!

OP posts:
musica · 27/06/2003 09:15

Also, he may not be too huge - I don't believe they can tell by the size of the bump - they reckoned ds was really small, but was nearly 10 lbs, and another friend was told she was having a 10lber, but had a 7lb. Good luck, anyway!

mears · 27/06/2003 09:47

Lisita - I think it is really good that your consultant has been up front and honset with you. Too many women get induced with no idea that it might fail and they could end up with a C/S. It will be so much better for you in the longrun if you go into labour yourself. I often hear women say that they wish that the doctor would just section them anyway because it is likely that is what they are going to end up with anyway. Then they actually come in in labour and deliver normally.
This is such a difficult time when you are so close and so uncomfortable. If you had an unecessary section, you would have a longer recovery in amongst your move.
Try and be positive - all the pains you are having is nature sortening the cervix getting you ready for labour. As a midwife I have learned over the years NEVER to tell a woman I think she is going to go into labour before her due date - it is impossible to tell and it is really demoralising when it doesn't happen.Try and take it easy as much as you can and relax while you can. Best wishes, mears

Thanks for your support all of u!!
Yes this is my first baby hence the anxiety lol!!
Hows everyone doing? how long now??Im 38 w + 1 d i know i still have 2 w to go but my 2 mw and the doctor have been telling me Lucas was gonna be early for weeks and i got my hopes up, now it seems he is not quite ready yet
Anyone in my stage could please tell me HOW R THEY COPING?? I cant stand it anymore Raspberry leaf tablets, pineapple, etc. dont seem to be working AT ALL!!!! :0
Lots of love have a nice weekendxxxxxxxxx

colette · 28/06/2003 10:24

Lisita
I can understand your frustration- and the pressure of moving. I am 39 +1 and am feeling really fed up some days and ok others. As I was induced with 1st I would really this one to come on it's own.
As mears said they don't always tell you all the options and outcomes.
Try and keep yourself distracted - I know it's almost impossible

kaz33 · 28/06/2003 17:54

Lisita

Gosh I remember how tough the last couple of weeks are, when you feel like a bloated balloon. You have additional stress by the sounds of it.

I know it is hard but do something for yourself, whilst you still can - go swimming, go to the cinema, get a manicure. I had three weeks as a lady of leisure - going to the cinema, meeting friends for lunch... and the memory of a normal life has got me through a few tough nights.

Good luck - curry worked for DS1 and sex worked for DS2 !! Maybe you could combine them....

Lisita · 28/06/2003 20:39

Cheers girls for your support... sorry if i seem to be a moaner (i must be i suppose lol) but its just too much on my plate at the mo!
Colette, would u mind telling me more about yr induction? Its just that an induction is not yet ruled out (Lucas is quite big for me- im measuring 2 weeks ahead) so if things change by Thursday when they reassess me, they are still considering an induction cos if he is overdue i might need a cesarean anyway because of his size!
Im trying everything- raspberry leaf tablets, pineapple, walking, sex... nothing is helping AT ALL!! Any more suggestions for a desesperate BALLOON?????? (thats wot im reduced to now... i dont feel human anymore ooooooooooooh)
Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

KMS · 28/06/2003 22:26

Lista- sorry you are having a bad time of it. i was induced with my first but i was 2 wks over so was obviously more ready than you. all went well and just 5 1/2 hrs, but I have read loads about long, drawn out labours that take days to start and can end with lots of intervention because the baby is just not ready! best to let him come of his own accord if you can.

A sweep worked with my second but that was at 40wks.

really sorry I couldn't give you anything more positive. Adrenalin can stop labour so i have heared. (goes back to fight/flight responce and too dangerous for baby to come?) so try to relax if you can and he will come when he is ready.

Good luck hope it all works out. Still 2 wks for him to be "early".

colette · 29/06/2003 11:23

Lisita
Hope you're feeling better today. Being induced was fine - I had pre-eclampsia and Dd wasn't growing well ,so it was the best thing. It took a while to get going and then it was very quick and I think there's more monotoring /chance of intervention,
This time I am happy to say I am having a much bigger baby(ouch)
So I don't want to put you off an induction, I would like o this baby to decide what day it is born and it all to happen a bit more in my control. But I will go with the flow and take necessary advice .

mears · 29/06/2003 11:29

Can I say that big baby does not mean C/S - even for a small woman. Do not worry about size at all, scans are not that reliable for weight at all.

colette · 29/06/2003 11:46

Mears
I have had about 4or5 growth scans this time so I am wondering how inaccurate they can be? With Dd they thought she was about 5lb and she was 4lb 11oz. They said there was about a 10% leeway usually.
I'm not too obsessed about the weight as I know I have been so much healthier this time and am huge ,due to eating at every oppurtunity.

mears · 29/06/2003 12:03

Growth scans are done to show the differential between scans to indicate growth. So therefore growth can be demontrated but the actual weight itself is not very accurate. Yes there is a 10% leeway, but that is acually quite a bit when it is a big baby. They can be a lot more inaccurate than that, so that is why they are not a good indicator of actual weight.

motherinferior · 29/06/2003 20:32

Also it's a projection, isn't it? DD2 was on course to be over 8 pounds. But that was at 40 weeks. At 37 she was under 7, much like dd2!

motherinferior · 29/06/2003 20:32

Sorry, mean just like dd1. Obviously need little lie-down now.

KMS · 01/07/2003 23:11

Hi all. Anyone having regular braxton's? had them every 15mins all night! and this morning but they weren't strong enough to "do" anything. all stopped now. this happened with DS2 at 34wks and ended up in hosp to have them stopped but won't go in this time as 37wks and want to have this baby soon!! Mears- I asume this wont do any harm to baby?

mears · 01/07/2003 23:17

No harm at all. Think of Braxton Hicks as baby massage. At 34 weeks there would be a concern that the BH would develop into full blown contractions. At 37 weeks this is not a problem - except perhaps to you getting tired out with them. Try and ignore them as much as possible. You will know if they have developed into contractions if they stop you in your tracks and alter your rate of breathing. Keep positive thoughts - contractions at this stage are eworking away softening the cervix getting ready for labour. The downside is that they can go on, on and off, for weeks. I remember lying awake at night 'timing'contractions thinking 'this is it', only to waken up disappointed in my bed the next morning.
My dad used to always say 'when the apple is ripe it will drop'. Sound advice
