@Mldn and @Travellingislife congratulations on the scans today!

Where I am there isn't an app but I was shocked to receive a text 20 mins after my booking in appt (at 10 and a bit weeks) with my 12 week scan appt date. I've got a quick scan this Friday before intralipids and having NIPT bloods done then too. Got my nhs one next Friday. Had a bit of brown spotting yesterday but trying to not worry! I've had 4 mc so can't help but overthink it all.

Mldn · 19/04/2023 18:03

I got my booking appointment & my 12 week appointment about 10 days after I self referred at the beginning of pregnancy. At my booking in appointment they booked my 16 week appointment. Really feeling for everyone still waiting on appointment dates. I am amazed how well my trust have done, I’m in north London so really expected it to be very overran x

Psqueak87 · 19/04/2023 18:06

@Travellingislife I have been doing weekly accupuncture for my nausea but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference! I still think accupuncture is the only reason I got pregnant though so I will believe in its abilities until the end of time.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 19/04/2023 18:40

@Travellingislife I'm glad it went well for you.

I had my booking in appointment at 8+3 yesterday private scan dates but was 7+6 by period date - they said they don't take the private scans in to account. I'm hoping I don't get an appointment that would technically put me over 14 weeks by the private scan date.

Last time I think it took about a week after the booking appointment to get a letter for the 12 week scan so assuming I will get something next week.

Have booked my NIPT for 10th May x

Thack · 19/04/2023 20:34

I had a letter with scan appointment last week (approx 10 weeks). It'll be at 12+6.

Hopefully we'll all have dates soon.

38andtrying · 19/04/2023 20:56

10w+2 today, this evening I've started to get like period cramps, it not sore just uncomfortable, is this anything to worry about? Just extra concerned as my nausea subsided this week also

JJ2023 · 19/04/2023 21:20

@Mldn @Travellingislife congratulations on your scans today 💕

Mldn · 19/04/2023 21:25

@JJ2023 thanks so much xx

@38andtrying easy said than done.. but I’d try not to worry! I’ve said a few times (broken record I know.. but the fear was real!) that my symptoms vanished over night at 8 weeks. I every now and then get period type pains. Just the dull ache in my tummy, back & legs that I’d usually get when I’m due on. And it’s worrying but has so far proved to be nothing! My midwife said unless you are in painful cramping or have red blood.. try not to worry 🤍

Psqueak87 · 19/04/2023 21:36

A department store here is having a huge sale on baby stuff, I’m just trying to stop myself buying things as I’m thinking 11+4 is too early for this?

I live more than 6000km from friends and family and it’s starting to worry me. I don’t really have any friends here in Canada, and the one I do have is very anti-baby. Her husband has had the snip they’re that anti-baby, I feel like it’s going to be very lonely, and I have nobody to tell me what to do. I’ve never been around babies at all. I don’t even have the tiniest idea what I need to buy before baby is born, I’ve been watching some TikTok’s of newborn baby advice stuff but there’s just so much info, I have no idea where to even start!

can anyone advise me of anywhere I can find a list of what to buy, things I really need to have before baby is born.

thank you

madeofcodes · 19/04/2023 21:48

Hello! Hoping I can hop back in to this thread. I deleted Mumsnet for a while because all the info was quite overwhelming and just wanted to get a few weeks ticked off. I had an early scan and measuring at 10w today, we have our 12w scan booked in on the 8th May. Anyone else got theirs that week? So lovely seeing all of your posts with how you're progressing! X

Spareincoming · 19/04/2023 23:40

@Psqueak87 Whereabouts in Canada are you? I know when I was living in BC there was a thriving mom and baby group network at the libraries across the province- I taught paediatric first aid to a number of groups and was really impressed with the free groups and resources available.

ProseccoBee · 20/04/2023 02:37

Thought I would join in to to say I’m currently 9 weeks and also havn’t heard about my booking in appointment! I filled out a referral
form and someone rang me
back to say they’d received it and midwife would be in touch soon but I’m still waiting. Are you in the uk? I’m in the north east and getting slightly worried about it all now ! Hopefully we will hear soon x

ProseccoBee · 20/04/2023 02:39

meant to tag @BabyBabyBaby123 in that least message.

Psqueak87 · 20/04/2023 03:29

@Spareincoming I’m in Edmonton, AB, but that’s really great to know, thank you. Do people join these before or after they give birth do you know?

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 04:35

Is anyone else struggling with insomnia? I am waking at about 1am every night and just laying there. I've tried reading, watching rubbish TV (this has always been a sure way to get back to sleep) changing pillows. I just can't get back to sleep and then I'm up at 5am for work. Any tips you've found to be useful?

@38andtrying just to say I've had cramping on and off, early this week it was quite bad but now has eased off. I'm sure it's just everything adjusting down there. Your scan is Friday isn't it? Xx

38andtrying · 20/04/2023 06:29

@FfoxRedN yes scan tomorrow, I have proper scanxiety, it's hateful, my husband has it too, really hoping and praying all is ok

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 06:32

@38andtrying we are both the same too, going back to the EPU brings up so much anxiety it's almost like PTSD. I really hope everything is ok xx

Travellingislife · 20/04/2023 06:47

@Psqueak87 sorry to hear it’s not working, it must be awful not being able to do anything about it, I really hope you’ll start to feel better soon. I do believe in Chinese medicine and I do reflexology as well, I think that helped me conceive!

In regards to mum groups, definitely try and find one, I love my mummy’s group and we’ve had so much support from each other, we were in the same NCT group from about 6 months pregnant.

What I wish I had known before having my son was that babies don’t need much! I bought way too many clothes and “gadgets”. I however LOVED our Snuzpod, Babynest, Swaddle up swaddles and Ergobaby carrier. In the Snuzpod the baby will be next to you but safe in their own bed and my boy slept really well when he was swaddled in his babynest. I wouldn’t buy a large changing table either again as it just takes up space and I’ll just have a changing mat on a bed or on a set of drawers. Many people love them though.
I didn’t change clothes on him as often as I thought so wouldn’t buy too many outfits and I would only buy a few of the newborn sizes. Stock up on lots of nappies and baby wipes/ cotton wool. Muslins are a life saver, they can be used for everything, I took them everywhere.
A approved car seat and a buggy.
I hardly used my buggy as my son didn’t like it, I took him everywhere in the Ergo carrier and I found it much easier than trying to get a buggy around the shops for example. It was nice to have a buggy on walks though.
Bottles and a steriliser might be useful if you’re not breastfeeding or if it doesn’t work to start with.

Travellingislife · 20/04/2023 06:49

@FfoxRedN I do, right from conception I’ve slept badly, I wake up between 2-4am most nights. I’m trying to avoid my phone but it never works so I end up scrolling through social media or reading, I know it’ll make it worse but I can’t just lie there. I also go through my body bit by bit from my toes and up, and relaxing every part, sometimes this works and I go back to sleep. With my son I think my insomnia stopped around 20 weeks.

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 06:53

@Travellingislife I used to do that in yoga had totally forgotten about it! Will give it a go thank you x

Travellingislife · 20/04/2023 06:57

@38andtrying aw I understand your worry. The statistics are on your side, that’s what I’m telling myself when I get anxious. Hope you’ll get reassurance from your scan tomorrow.

MooseWL · 20/04/2023 07:09

@Psqueak87 ah sorry you're feeling like that but what I would say is when you have a baby/child it's really easy to get chatting with other parents as you straight away have something in common! Do you have baby/ toddler groups around? I didn't know anyone in my village really before I had my son and I've made so many friends through baby groups etc.
I'd echo what was said above. Babies actually don't need that much!
You'll need a car seat, somewhere for them to sleep (agree that a Next to me style bed is great for the first 6 months or so) I defo didn't need a big cot before my baby was born he ended up in our bed a lot and if I hadn't pre bought the cot I'd have gone for a floor bed (though at 2.5 he is now in the cot!)
A pram or a sling - slings are great in the early days - do they have sling libraries in Canada?
Baby grows, vests, muslins, nappies/ wipes (Would really recommend reusable wipes!)
Cellular blanket. Washing up bowl/ baby bath -unless you have a big sink!
Then depending on how you're planning to feed, bottles if you don't plan to breastfeed.
Honestly that's about it. Plus these days it's so easy to get things delivered next day you can just order things as you need! But newborns actually need very little other than you!

Spareincoming · 20/04/2023 09:25

@Psqueak87 Friends of mine have just (well, Christmas time) left Edmonton and gone down to Calgary; she definitely took her boys to mum and baby stuff, I’ll message her for her recommendations!
I know she’s finding Calgary doesn’t have as much for toddlers as Edmonton did.

JD90 · 20/04/2023 10:59

I'm really enjoying the side effects of nausea, vomiting and food aversion... horrendous constipation 😭 keep getting pains and having to remind myself it's actually my bowels because all of a sudden there is next to nothing getting that far. Urgh!
How's everyone else feeling today?

BabyBabyBaby123 · 20/04/2023 11:45

@ProseccoBee I am in the UK. 10 weeks today and still heard nothing, not even an acknowledgment of receiving my form.
the receptionist at my GP said the midwife is only in on Wednesday, so I am assuming she got my 2nd form yesterday, but I’m not really sure how long I am meant to give it to hear back.
I have picked a different hospital this time round compared to my 15month old, because it is closer to home, but I am really considering changing back to that one cos I had already had my booking appointment and knew the date of my 12 week scan by now with that hospital in my last pregnancy.
