@JD90 totally feel you with the constipation. I'm on medication for sickness and it's made the constipation so bad. Haemorrhoids & all.. didn't get them till the end of pregnancy with my last so praying I don't have them the full hog. Lactulose doesn't help a lot.

JD90 · 20/04/2023 12:08

@LilmissCa yeah I've got meds just to try and allow me to eat, I am managing to eat a bit more but definitely not as I should be. I've also got some prescription laxitives which I finally caved and took this morning so 🤞 just trying to drink as much as I can and hope it helps...

Thack · 20/04/2023 13:02

@Psqueak87 keep an eye out for courses. Your midwife might be able to recommend a few. I had my first DC in lockdown so it was just online, I'll search back to see if they are still running.
I'd never been around babies before but you do muddle through and MW/HVs can be great help.

Yes to insomnia @FfoxRedN !@FfoxRedN ! I have no tips sorry, just solidarity.
Also another for constipation. Pregnancy is beautiful.

Skyla01 · 20/04/2023 13:59

@Mldn glad I'm not the only one with very few symptoms. I had a bit of nausea and tiredness but that is mostly gone now. Don't really feel pregnant at all any more. Especially as with my daughter I was sick as a dog. Scan is two weeks today... Twiddling my fingers until then!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 20/04/2023 14:10

My booking appointment was moved forwards until today. It was so long! I was there over an hour! Lots and lots of tests but I can safely say I was well checked 😂 urine did test positive for leukocytes though, but I don't have any pain to suggest a UTI, anyone have the same?

Mldn · 20/04/2023 14:21

@Skyla01 is it your 12 week scan? The last week I’ve felt way more tired than usual. I’m sleeping like 12 hours a night and still exhausted the entire day. Also look like I’ve seen a ghost, super pale! But other than that just some bloating and that’s all. Hope you’re doing okay x

Mldn · 20/04/2023 14:24

@FlyingHighFlyingLow I was the same - my booking in urine sample showed bacteria but not enough for a UTI. However, I then started to get some pain trying to empty my bladder and they gave me antibiotics for a week.. then I did another urine sample and bacteria was still abnormally high, but less than it was originally. But the GP called and said she won’t give more antibiotics unless symptoms come back! Pregnancy is not glamorous x

TMI2000 · 20/04/2023 14:25

@FlyingHighFlyingLow I just had a call from the Midwives today from my appointment on Tuesday that when they sent it off to the lab it showed some moderate mixed growth and I should repeat the sample, not feeling unwell at all though or have any symptoms of a UTI!

Skyla01 · 20/04/2023 15:07

@Mldn yup that's my 12 week scan. I felt so terrible in my first pregnancy for the first trimester - definitely rest up if that is what your body is telling you to do. 99% likely that you'll feel much better in a few weeks so can get back to normal. I'm trying not to read too much in to the fact I feel ok already, nothing I can do about the outcome either way.

Psqueak87 · 20/04/2023 17:01

@Travellingislife @Spareincoming @MooseWL thank you so much for your advice! Really appreciate it, I got a bit overwhelmed with all the things I see on TikTok that I “need” to buy, but you’ve made it much more manageable!

I would love a recommendation for mums / baby groups from your friend if she has any! Thank you so much! They expect you to know everything already here, on my first Dr appointment (about 6 weeks) they asked me who I wanted to deliver my baby…I was like, errr whoever is working at the time I go into labour?! Apparently I’m supposed to know these things, lol.

as for sling library…never heard of it but I shall look into it!

just had my 12 week (technically 11+5) scan today. Went well, baby finally looks like a baby, measuring 12+2, HR 163. Only problem is she wouldn’t flip over so they couldn’t do the required measurements, so I’m back there in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. This’ll be my fourth ultrasound now which I’m pretty happy about!

think I’m going to tell work today, after a week off sick I’m sure there are some suspicions!

thanks again ladies for all your help!

Psqueak87 · 20/04/2023 17:03

@Thack I’m not even sure if we have a midwife? They asked me at my first doctors appointment if I wanted one; I said I don’t know; do people usually? And they said not really, so I told them I wouldn’t bother then…I really have no idea how things work over here.

I have an apt with my OBGYN in 3 weeks so I will ask him then if there are any classes or something I can go to! Thank you ☺️

Spareincoming · 20/04/2023 17:39

@Psqueak87 I messaged my friend and this is the part of her reply that isn’t us gossiping! Hope it’s useful.

“Tell her to check into the actual libraries, there’s always things going on and usually free. Amazing for the cold weather hideaway days. The Y also have baby classes like yoga and gym - you need to be a member - we got our monies worth with (name of child).

I’ve found this blog post that might be up to date or might not be.

justanotheredmontonmommy.com/2018/01/free-drop-in-play-groups-young-kids-around-edmonton/amp/

I guess the stroller-size exercise classes are still going - they were at community centres and run by very enthusiastic instructors.

Mommy connections is a company that do pre baby courses. I removed them being north Ed but might be wrong. As well as post baby classes as well. Not for free and I thought it looked a bit twee but might be worth a gander as I know a few Mommas who liked the whole gig.

Baby stuff wise if “once upon a child”
still have decent stores, the one near us here is poor, they have preloved stuff and saved us a boatload on clothes”

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 20/04/2023 17:52

Thank you @Mldn @TMI2000 , that makes me feel a lot better!

Glad your scan went well @Psqueak87 , annoying in bad position but you get to see baby again!

Houseonthehills · 20/04/2023 17:54

Hey ladies, just been to midwife im just over 9 weeks and she suggested that I start antisickness medication. Has it worked for any of you guys? Would you recommend it?

Fairylight102 · 20/04/2023 18:25

@Houseonthehills I started taking cyclizine about a week ago. It’s hard to tell if it’s working to be honest because I have still had some really bad days since taking it, but I’ve also had 2 days which have been pretty mild.

Houseonthehills · 20/04/2023 18:32

Thank you for sharing. Hope it starts to improve for you really quickly

NatGee · 20/04/2023 19:02

Seems like I missed a lot of updates from all you lovely ladies - I had been wondering why the notifications stopped ! marking my place now, will catch up when I have a minute :D
I'm 10+5 today and the nausea has certainly eased off big time, Ive continued going to acupuncture as Ive now grown to like it. The therapist is really good too

At my booking in appointment, I had bloods and urine samples taken for a whole host of tests so to those who haven't had theirs yet, make sure this is being done and ask for any others you think are relevant. I wanted a Vit D, sickle cell and toxoplasmosis ones done so I asked.

My 12 week scan is coming up next week and I asked to have a NIPT instead of the combined test so I'm waiting to hear back, otherwise ill book myself one privately.

I'm very much taking an "you don't ask you don't get" type attitude with the NHS and also putting everything in writing just in case (I got hold of a handful of email addresses at the hospital) Worse that can happen is being told no.

NatGee · 20/04/2023 19:07

@Psqueak87 sorry to hear youre so far from friends and family, by the sounds of it everything sound so foreign to you, and me! Personally, im not buying anything for baby yet, although i got some 2nd hand maternity trousers off of ebay because my regular ones don't fit anymore! Maybe focus on learning how the antenatal care works in Canada and on looking after your body particularly as it youre still in the very critical period that is the first trimester. Glad you're here, and glad to see our babies are all growing :)

Spareincoming · 20/04/2023 19:11

I am so sick of these headaches now! I seem to get them most days and suspect it’s both hormones and mild dehydration at times but I am so sick of them!
I had them last time but not this much. Ugh!

FfoxRedN · 20/04/2023 19:45

@Spareincoming same here! Everyday, it's relentless!

AngeloMysterioso · 20/04/2023 19:46

Joining the thread! Am 9+5 today with DC3, EDD at the minute is 18th Nov Grin

Psqueak87 · 20/04/2023 19:52

@Spareincoming thank you so so much for passing all of that info on. Im gonna look into all of those on my next break and see if I can find something close by to me! I really appreciate it ☺️

Spareincoming · 20/04/2023 20:00

@FfoxRedN Solidarity! I’m trying to avoid taking paracetamol but the last few days I’ve had to just to get through the working day. Ugh!

flowerlover1990 · 20/04/2023 20:57

@Houseonthehills Just sharing my experience with Cyclizine. I'm on my third week taking it (now 8 + 3) it has definitely taken the edge off. I'm rarely being sick now, I just continue to feel a bit nauseous during the day. Before I started it, I was completely bed bound with sickness and it was awful. I think they also make me a bit sleepy but I'll take that over throwing up anyday! Hope things get better for you!

MeganC104 · 21/04/2023 06:27

Today is my dating scan and first time seeing bubs! So many emotions this morning but mostly excited 😁
