@OptimusPrime31 my baby literally never burps or farts, I'm there winding for ages and nothing. Weirdly enough her grunting and squirming only happens around 6am onwards and will only stop until she manages to poop herself around 9am. I'm thinking of trying an osteopath who deals with baby osteo.

OptimusPrime31 · 27/07/2023 09:04

@tigerlily0 that sounds really interesting I'd never heard of a baby osteopath. Keep in touch and let me know if it works. We're willing to try anything right now!

Also- in case people didn't know loads of cinemas do baby friendly viewings. I've just found this out and it was a game changer! I've been to a few baby groups but they just hurt my back (and my bank balance!) so I'm going to focus more on activities that i want to do but allow baby to come with me like postnatal yoga and baby wearing dance classes.

RugbyGirl1 · 27/07/2023 09:33

@tigerlily0 we went to a baby osteopath as our little one was sick all the time and baby gavsicon wasn't really helping. She was also really restless but after two sessions she's now all good 👍 luckily she's a super sleeper and been going through the night 9pm-6am now for around two weeks, she's 11 weeks old 🥰

TheBeesKnee · 27/07/2023 18:49

Wow, I thought the 4 hours I was getting were a win! What are you feeding her @RugbyGirl1 ?

Blue2020 · 27/07/2023 20:51

Mine is now 16 weeks (or 11 weeks corrected- no idea if that accounts for anything). He mostly wakes up every 3hours for a bottle, then it takes an hour until he’s back in the cot. I have to keep him upright for 30-50 minutes otherwise he will bring the milk back. He’s been like this since day 1. Very gassy and reflux. Even keeping him upright doesn’t guarantee it but most of the time it works. So I get 2hr naps through the night now which is good. On rare occassions hes gone 5-6hrs but that’s only happened twice so far. 3-4hrs is standard. I’ve completely adjusted to 3-4am it’s the 6-7am that’s hard when he’s fully awake and I just want to sleep.

Blue2020 · 27/07/2023 21:05

Everything is an improvement on those first 8 weeks though. I found sleep deprivation very hard. Now seeing him be more active during the day is great, I love hearing him babble to himself, or smile at the sunflower on his playmat. Also he has some nappy changes and doesn’t cry, that’s a huge improvement. Plus he doesn’t grunt and make sounds when he sleeps anymore, I never knew some newborns could be so loud in their sleep.

RugbyGirl1 · 28/07/2023 15:00

@Blue2020 it is tough but seeing them develop, smile, giggle and change makes it all worth it! Have you seen the doctor about the reflux? They can prescribe the gavsicon and it may be worth trying an osteopath if you have one nearby. On their recommendation we only do natural burping now (no patting or rubbing) which has also helped reduce the sickness. My little one used to hate nappy changes and being naked too but she's got over that!

@TheBeesKnee I know I'm super lucky! She's on Kendamil organic. Tends to eat a little more than the recommended amount but is tracking the 50th centile so I'm not worried. Fully expecting the four month sleep regression to hit hard!

Blue2020 · 28/07/2023 17:20

@RugbyGirl1 I have mentioned it to the doctor and also the hv and when he’s weighed at a clinic/book-in. They don’t seam bothered because he’s doing well with his weight. We do make sure he burps half way through and at the end. I also just hold him upright now and he mostly burps himself. If that doesn’t work putting him on my shoulder works. At the last weigh in the person suggested infacol so I will buy some and try that. He is keeping on track for his weight. I will look up osteopath and see if there are any close by thanks.

raffika · 29/07/2023 21:40

@Blue2020 do you formula feed? If so, do you use a prep machine? I used to and was told they add air which makes gassy babies worse. I swapped to making bottles as a batch, storing in the fridge and re-heating when needed, and there was a real improvement. Swapping to goats milk formula also helped with the wind.

For the reflux, have you tried Carobel or Infant Gaviscon? Carobel thickens the milk so it’s more likely to stay in the tummy and was an absolute game changer, but if it hadn’t solved the problem them Gaviscon was the next port of call. You can add Carobel to formula or give on its own for breast fed babies. It can cause a bit of constipation so we also give a daily probiotic (Optibac Baby Drops) which keeps things regular.

If you want to try a colic drop, Infacol can be counter productive as it’s orange based, so quite acidic. Dentinox is a cheaper alternative which isn’t acidic. Colactase might also be something to try, in case the issue relates to lactose.

Blue2020 · 29/07/2023 22:04

@raffika he’s formula fed. He did have 6 weeks of breast milk (tube then bottle fed) and was similar with that. he was premature though so I wondered if it was an immature digestive system. No we don’t use a prep machine, we use the Nuby rapid cool, and when out its readymade. I think there is some air introduced when making the milk which doesn’t help, so we try to leave it to stand for a short period to reduce it. Thankyou I will look into those alternatives.

raffika · 29/07/2023 22:24

@Blue2020 definitely could be an immature digestive system - I saw above you said about seeing an osteopath so that could help. My baby had some minor issues from being a c section baby rather than having the squeeze through the birth canal, and the osteopath really helped - his head centile reduced, he stopped hiccuping and was less mucousy. Hopefully you get sorted, a windy and refluxy baby is so hard.

Did anyone else's baby become an absolute nightmare at 8 weeks? All of a sudden just not sleeping, constant crying. Feeding fine but just not settling? I've read about an 8 week sleep regression but this is ridiculous! 😭 No temperature so not ill. She's just moving all the time!

What kind of cry is it? Have you checked out the Dunstan baby language? Did it coincide with vaccinations? The rota virus really upset my little one's tummy and he was very unsettled for a few days.

The constant moving could be new energy - are you getting in lots of tummy time etc?

Appleby11 · 31/07/2023 17:48

@TheBeesKnee she's not booked in for them yet until she's 10 weeks. The GP didn't have any appointments for them.

She's alright with tummy time. Not happy about it as she's incredibly nosy so can't see everything from the floor and has real FOMO 🤣

I rang the GP as she's not been feeding brilliantly today. They said to go straight down. They've prescribed gaviscon and think she's teething 😳 brilliant. Just what we all need!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 01/08/2023 11:18

Hi all, nice to hear updates.

Our wee girl is 12 wks tomorrow

Sleeping is going okay - she needs a lot of support to nap during the day but I know that's normal for her age. She has started doing longer blocks overnight between 3 and 5hrs. Hard to get her back in bassinet past 6am though!

Feeding can be tough. She's formula fed. Struggles to eat enough so she's quite wee. She gets bad acid reflux so is on omeprazole. It has helped but not 100%. She has some days where she throws up/possets lots and some where she doesn't. We have carobel on hand but haven't used it yet.

Personality wise she is all smiles and loves to play. However, acid reflux often happens when on her back and ruins it! She's recently become much more receptive to tummy time.

tiantian1005 · 24/08/2023 15:35

How is everyone doing?
Cant believe my daughter is nearly 15 weeks!! Would be lovely to hear some updates from everyone!

lmw88 · 29/08/2023 07:19

@tiantian1005 Lily is turning 15wks this week. Starting to become a little character. And really finding her voice. Of course daddy gets instant smiles even if he vaguely looks her direction lol. Starting to make some attempts to roll. Still exclusively breastfeeding and going well.
Lily has always been a really good sleeper. We're doing roughly 9pm/10pm-6am/7am.
How is your LO doing?

TheBeesKnee · 29/08/2023 11:24

This thread /has/ gone quiet!

Baby is 16 (?) weeks old and I think going through a sleep regression. I've had a solid week of waking up every 2-3 hours to feed and I am exhausted. Like @lmw88 I'm exclusively breastfeeding as well and he ends up in bed with us most nights after the first first wake.

I've been to exactly one baby group (pilates) and while I had a good time, I don't want to drag myself out of bed after a shitty night's sleep to go hang out with a choir of crying babies. DP/SIL/HV/everyone seems to have a problem with this and keeps haranguing me to go.

Anyway. Baby is also spending a lot of time chewing his fingers and shoving his hand in his mouth, gagging, looking offended/shocked, then starting the process again 😂

Hates tummy time but is always trying to sit up.

I think we're on the brink of moving from 1-3 to 3-6 month clothes 😭

DP is already talking about a second baby 🥴 help

CatMad22 · 17/09/2023 11:28

@TheBeesKnee We’re in the midst of the regression too and it’s so hard! I feel like it’s been non stop the last few weeks, teething, regression, the hot weather and now a cold. I’m also BF and up every 2 - 3 hours. With you on the hand shoving too 😅 My husband makes jokes about a second one and I honestly can’t think of anything worse than being pregnant now with how exhausted I am!!!!

Edited to add that you shouldn’t feel pressured re baby groups, I’ve been taking my LO ad hoc for a while and just signed up for swimming too but there’s also value to staying at home or going shopping/for a walk instead. The groups are good but it’s hard if you’re looking for mum friends (like me) and people don’t really seem to want to do anything outside of the group. I mean, I haven’t asked but I just get the vibe.

TheBeesKnee · 17/09/2023 11:49

@CatMad22 oh bless you, it's so hard!! Everyone keeps saying that it'll pass but WHEN?!

Have you seen any teeth yet or are they still en route?

I do wonder if the next2me cot is uncomfortable? It feels pretty hard and he's approaching the weight limit!

Mine has made a few jokes about a second as well 🤔 I think the men are having a great time. I'm shattered.

We had one night where baby slept for 5 hours. I felt like a new woman! Another night he slept for 4.5 but unfortunately I was awake and stressed thinking he was going to wake up any minute now... for 3 hours!

I have started going to a local baby group now for DS. He's a very sociable baby and loves seeing other babies. He doesn't show much interest in the toys, so I'm going twice a week for his sake. I think he learnt to sit up and support himself with his hands by watching another baby, which is wild.

I have been making an effort to chat with other mums, I think asking what their plans are for the rest of the day is a good, low-pressure way to guage if they're interested in going for a coffee etc.

@lmw88 how are you and Lily getting on? I bet she's rolling all over the place now!

@tiantian1005 how are you getting on?

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl how's the acid reflux going? Is it any better?

@Appleby11 have you seen any teeth yet? 👀

OptimusPrime31 · 17/09/2023 12:56

We went on holiday last week with the parents in law. It was a godsend having an extra pair of hands (especially in the morning!) But she was definitely out of routine and was waking up really unsettled for the entire week(I felt lucky to get a solid hour sleep). So we are sticking to a routine like glue now with the hope she will sleep better!

CatMad22 · 17/09/2023 13:33

I know 😩 He’s 18 weeks so I’m praying it’ll only last a couple more weeks. He used to fall asleep wherever I put him in the day but now he cries and moans before every nap which is so exhausting. No visible teeth yet but his gums are definitely hard - I think the teething pain might have stopped for now 🤞🏻

Sleep is such a lottery! I felt so good when he was sleeping well so I know exactly what you mean. I should probably check the cot as well, he seems to have filled it up pretty quickly now. Mine will sleep in at night but not during the day!

Well done on the baby groups, mine is so fascinated he just spends the whole time looking around 😅 I reckon he’ll be more interactive next time I take him.

TheBeesKnee · 22/12/2023 00:19

Soooo how's everyone doing? Looking forward to Christmas with our babies?

Janch13 · 22/12/2023 08:32

Hi everyone. We are doing good although baby just getting over a cold/cough which made his usual happy self very miserable and also massively impacted sleep 🫠🫠🫠 we are also very out of routine because we’ve been doing lots of Christmassy activities (we have a 4yo as well) but it’s all in the name of festive fun so we’ll get back into sync after Xmas.

Weaning is going well, he has loved everything he’s tried although definitely has a preference for the baby led approach rather than me feeding him purées with a spoon - in fact he grabs the spoon off me so he can dispense it himself. Which is fine just v messy! 🙈

We have a holiday to Tenerife in Jan as well, which we are looking forward to. We took him abroad at 3m and it was all smooth so hoping for the same ☀️

Hope everyone else is doing great and look forward to reading some baby updates! We will be 7m on Xmas day 🎅
