Hello all. Here is a fresh thread to fill up with lots of chitchat and milestones. So sorry if I’ve missed anyone out or got the EDD wrong. I tried to look back through but there were so many messages 😅 I’m sure I must’ve missed some people out. Many apologies, it wasn’t intentional. Sending hugs to all. 🥰🌈👶🏻🤰🏻

Hello ladies. 👋🏼 I’m currently wide awake and have just caught up on your messages. I’ve been waking every morning at 2 am and struggling to get back to sleep. So I’ve given up today and decided to put a load of laundry on 😂 if it’s not the heat keeping me awake then it’s the heartburn. I’m 38+4 today. I went for my GTT yesterday and failed. 😭 got the phone call while I was at my baby shower and it really made me feel like I wanted to cry. I have an appointment to go in this morning and get my blood monitor and speak with the team about putting a birth plan in place. I feel my intervention free water birth is slipping away. If I have to have an induction at 40 weeks (as they seem to be recommending) then it is what it is, but I’m really going to try to advocate more for myself this time. DD1’s birth was a long drawn out induction. I felt so out of control and out of the loop. I’d really hoped for a more natural labour this time. We shall see…. Also GDM means no more dates for me I guess. 😳 but I will try to keep up with the raspberry tea and curb walking in the hopes of getting things started naturally. 🙏🏻 baby seems very cosy in there though. I haven’t been having much braxton hicks or twinges or anything.

I'm so sorry to hear that your infection is still raging. @Houseelf90 That sounds so awful 😥 I can’t believe they’ve just let it carry on without more investigation up until this point. I really hope your appointment today goes well and you get your kidney scan soon to give you some answers.

I really hope your baby comes soon @R184 I have heard that an uncomfortable sweep can sometimes be the ones that get things moving.

Aw bless you @Goneaboutthiswrong 😢 the last few weeks are such a marathon mentally and physically. Your upcoming sweep with the reflexology and oils sounds like a nice combo. Let’s hope it does the trick. 💗

Has anyone tried the miles circuit? I’ve heard that can be good to kickstart labour or restart a stalled labour. Supposed to be done daily I think, so I will try that this week. And I need to try colostrum harvesting again as baby will need her blood sugars monitored after birth and her feeding will be very important. But I haven’t had much success with it so far. Sending hugs 💐

So another failed sweep this afternoon, the midwife said my cervix was slightly open but still long so she felt it would be too uncomfortable for me and not do anything - well, I guess the “failed” sweep did do something as my waters have broken!!
Just waiting for my other half to get home from work (he’s left early and on his way!) and then we are off to the hospital! 😬😬😬 now having the panic of what haven’t I packed 😂🙈

log51 · 12/09/2023 21:23

Good luck @Houseelf90 !!!

Houseelf90 · 12/09/2023 21:43

@log51 thank you!!! Have been moved to a delivery room - it’s huge!!! She’s going to come back in an hour to do some more monitoring, internal exam and then induce me! 😬😬 yikes!!!

kl1999 · 12/09/2023 21:48

@Houseelf90 oh my goodness!!! Best of luck my lovely, we’ll all be waiting for further updates (no rush or pressure of course!) thinking of you and hope all goes well 💗💙

@CaliGirl47 waking up and struggling to get back to sleep is one of the many banes of my life atm - so I can fully relate lol. I’m sure I’ve read online before that other Moms have managed to have a water birth even with GD, so hopefully that’s the case for you. No matter what happens, just ensure, as you say, that you advocate for yourself and your preferences the best you can my lovely 💗

@R184 like the others have said, uncomfortable sweeps seem to end up being positive in the grand scheme of things. Hope your little one arrives soon xxx

CaliGirl47 · 13/09/2023 04:34

this is so exciting! Best of luck @Houseelf90 🎉👶🏼 Your baby will soon be in your arms. 💗💗💗

@Skw11 Thanks hun. Sorry to hear that you can relate to the sleeplessness but at least I know I’m not on my own. Maybe it’s our body’s way of preparing us for the sleepless newborn nights 😆 I have been reading some really positive birth stories with GDM including some that involved birthing pools so I felt confident speaking with the consultant yesterday.

They’ve booked me in for an induction around my due date and have agreed to let me use the MLU and birthing pool if labour starts spontaneously or if I can have a successful induction without the use of hormones. So I felt victorious in advocating for myself and speaking up and coming to a reasonable agreement. Now I just want to try everything to get this labour started spontaneously before the end of next week. 😆 cue the spicy curries, raspberry tea, curb walking, and becoming a sex pest to DH 🙈

So far no luck with the sweep from Monday, I’m going to ask for another one to be done today, she told me I can now have one every two days… not that I think it’ll work but I desperately want to avoid a medical induction. I am beyond fed up of being pregnant now and each extra day feels like a week!!! Wish me luck 🤞🏼

Goneaboutthiswrong · 13/09/2023 12:00

how exciting @Houseelf90 best of luck! We will be thinking of you x

@CaliGirl47 Well done for advocating for yourself and you really should be feeling accomplished after that, we have to go into this birth thing with a positive mindset 🥳

@R184 I lost my mucus plug 3 days after my sweep, and I totally understand your apprehension about a medical induction. I’m having my second sweep today (5days after the last sweep) and I’m hoping this does the trick because I’m am beyond fed up with waiting now!

R184 · 13/09/2023 13:22

@Goneaboutthiswrong fingers crossed our second sweeps work!!

Houseelf90 · 13/09/2023 14:17

Baby Henry was born at 12.18pm today weighing 6lb7oz. He is just perfect 🥰
I’ll do a proper update later/tomorrow but thank you for all your well wishes!

@Houseelf90 congratulations!! 🩵 What wonderful news, the first baby on the group! Can't wait to hear more updates. I hope you're getting some rest and plenty of scrumptious newborn cuddles.

39+6 now and still waiting here too. Also fed up of the sleepless nights, insomnia has really kicked in. Booked in for a sweep on Friday, so hopefully won't be too long! Currently dosing up on dates and raspberry leaf tea 😂

R184 · 13/09/2023 19:38

Ladies - l had my second sweep today at about 3pm, I’ve been having cramping on and off ever since, back ache and some bloody mucus when I wipe - is this all too soon to be labour or could it just possibly be? 😬 I never needed sweeps with my first two and just went into spontaneous labour before my edd so this is all new territory for me!! I am 40+4 btw! 🤞🏼

Bizzybee900 · 13/09/2023 23:55

Oh wow @Houseelf90 congratulations! Such nice news (: look after yourself and hope you recover well from the birth!

ashz · 14/09/2023 05:58

Baby Aleeha born healthy and happy weighing 8lbs after 35 hrs of labour.
I decided to do my 2nd membrane sweep at 39 weeks and was 3 cm dilated, started having cramps right after. At first I thought it’s just due to membrane sweep but then they were very regular and consistent so we started tracking them. It took 12 hrs and I was having intense 4-1-1 contractions now. We called the nurse and rushed to the hospital. My contractions were so strong by then that I couldn’t breathe or talk through them. But unfortunately when they checked cervix I was still 3cm. We decided to do 2hrs walk to help with dialation but it didn’t worked either. Now I had to two option to either get morphine or take Tylenol just go home and wait. We just went home hoping Tylenol and bath tub will help but nothing actually helps when your contractions are only min apart. After 3 hrs of struggle we just rushed back to the hospital as nothing was working. At this point I was so tired that I was begging for epidural. I got another cervical check and was still 3 cm. At this point I was just thinking that maybe membrane sweep was not a good idea because you never know how much it would take for you to dilate but again it’s difference for every body. Now After 4 hrs of struggle and pain I was finally 4-5 cm and I just went with epidural without thinking. God it was such a relief that I can’t explain I was able to get some sleep now for 2 hrs. My labour slowly progressed and after 5-6 hrs of getting epidural I was fully dilated and effaced. Finally it was time to push and fortunately my active labor only lasted for 20mins and it was all worth the pain. I could hold my sweet little girl and it blurred out all the pain and struggle.
Thank you for this forum it helped me to relate with so many others like me and I just hope everything goes perfect and smoothly for each and everyone of you. And trust me at the end it’s all worth the pain.

kl1999 · 14/09/2023 11:45

@ashz wow - what an experience! Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful girl and thank you for taking the time to break down your labour for us all. Sending lots of love to you and your family. Enjoy every second of this newborn bubble! 💗

@R184 it possibly could be?! My SIL had 2 sweeps with her pregnancy. First one did absolutely nothing but was very uncomfortable. Second one is what kicked off labour for her. I think within 24-48 hours, her waters had broken etc. Every one and every body is different, but it sounds like you are/were possibly heading that way! Keep us posted xxx

Astar21 · 14/09/2023 16:57

@ashz congratulations! 🩷 I hope you're enjoying lots of newborn snuggles. Excited to meet our little one now!

@R184 sounds promising! 🤞🏼 how are you doing, any progress?

Why are the days slowly starting to drag now 😂

R184 · 14/09/2023 17:04

@Astar21 @kl1999 Not much change really, been on and off mild irregular contractions since yesterday afternoon, I did lose all my mucus plug about 4/5am this morning, it’s just frustrating that the contractions aren’t amping up to anything!!

Daisy155 · 14/09/2023 19:02

@ashz and @Houseelf90 congratulations to you both 🥰🥰 how wonderful!

I never gave an update baby Ayla was born at 36 weeks and she is now almost 3 weeks old it’s been a rollercoaster 🎢 but feeling incredibly blessed and grateful to finally have my rainbow 🌈 after what happened last year 💕🥹

Goneaboutthiswrong · 15/09/2023 18:27

Massive congrats to @Houseelf90 @ashz and @Daisy155

I also had my baby boy! Born 14/09/23, 7lb4oz. I had my second membrane sweep on 13th in the afternoon and started to feel very mild contractions later that evening, they were very sporadic and hard to tell how long they were lasting but i managed to go to sleep just fine. Labour was so quick - I woke up to my waters breaking at 5.40am then went to the hospital where they examined me and I was 4cm at 7.05am. I had a water birth with gas and air and had him at 9.37am 😳
He needed oxygen but was fine in the end. I then needed some stitches - not a bad tear but I had a blood vessel that wouldn’t stop bleeding so I had to be away from the baby for like 3 hours 😫 he was bonding with his dad and only cried for mummy once.

I am very much in love with my little cherub. Can’t wait for the rest of the group to experience this baby bliss. Sending you all who are near to the end some special love!

Houseelf90 · 15/09/2023 20:15

Thank you everyone and congratulations @ashz @Daisy155 and @Goneaboutthiswrong

So I had a failed sweep at my midwife appointment on Tuesday, she said she could do it, but as my cervix was still very long she did not feel it would work! Booked further sweeps for Friday and next Tuesday!

Less than 4 hours later, at 6pm my waters broke and contractions followed very shortly after! Partner came home from work and we headed into hospital.
The first 12-13 hours wasn’t the best, I was examined at 1cm, the midwife attempted to induce me with the gel but said she couldn’t as I wasn’t dilated enough and then I basically left to it. I was in agony with contractions, asking for pain relief etc but nothing was done.

Day shift started and I was examined at 8cm dilated….I should have had an epidural at 4cm due to an existing heart condition!!!
Then, 2 emergencies at the same time meant I still couldn’t get my epidural 😩
By this point I could feel my body wanting to push, so the midwife was happy for me to push. We weren’t really getting anywhere so a doctor came to check, and there was a lip of cervix in the way, plus a quick scan showed baby was back to back and getting stuck when I pushed! I was given the epidural and an hour to push him out; else off to theatre we were going!
So an hour later my epidural was topped up and we prepped for theatre - to try forcep delivery first and then c section if that didn’t work! The team in theatre were amazing! The doctor managed to turn baby and he was delivered by forceps! Apparently I was smiling the whole time in theatre, something they don’t see often! Well, why wouldn’t I! My baby was being delivered and I felt nothing! After a night of horrendous pain and being left to it I was relieved for some pain relief and help! We came home last night and have had a great 24 hours at home so far!

R184 · 16/09/2023 11:20

I also have an update….

We had a baby boy yesterday morning! Hard to know if my sweep Wednesday helped or not but I guess we’ll never know! Labour was pretty good, first contraction at 1.30am and he was born at 10.46am! A very healthy 9lbs 5oz 😬 we came home about 8pm last night and are enjoying our little baby bubble as a family of 5 🩷🩷💙
