Great news re:schools @Amme18 and @Rowanandremy . You must both be so pleased.

DS has been handful today unfortunately and I’ve had to take a really hard line with him, confiscating things he’s been misusing mainly. Got genetic counselling Wednesday morning on Microsoft Teams. Not got anyone to look after him so he’ll have to be around. Fingers crossed he behaves a bit better.

Nic2908 · 17/04/2023 21:48

Hi everyone, I haven’t read everything since I last posted but I am sure that you can forgive me for that. I hope you don’t mind me jumping on, I just really wanted to pop on and say hello really. And to tell you all that I think of you all a lot and it’s really strange to miss a bunch of women that you have never actually met. I went back to work this week, so slowly things are starting to resemble normal life well as much as possible. Anyway, much love to you all and I hope that you are all really keeping well. Xxx

Rowanandremy · 17/04/2023 22:21

@Amme18 Yes! So pleased for you! That sounds like a lovely school, ours is the easiest to get to and also within walking distance if it were necessary. Dw said it was low birth year a few days ago which gave me a bit of hope, I dread to think what the intake will be like for everyone next year but I’m betting it’s a lot higher than this. We have dd in a private nursery close to the school she’s gotten into so hoping that some of her friends are going with her.

@AnnieApple123 oh no! That’s kind of typical when you wanted to focus on him. I’m so sorry I’ve forgotten but how old is he? My dd is nearly 4 and she’s been a bit difficult lately too and we’ve had to take a few things off her that she’s misused or taken advantage of mid strop. Hoping he behaves super well for you on Wednesday and that the appointment goes well.

@Nic2908 Not at all! It’s lovely to hear from you. How are you doing? (I know that’s probably a daft question!). We’ve been quite an active thread from day one with so many on here, I don’t think it’s odd at all to miss people you haven’t met. I’ve not really joined forums before but the support and knowledge on here has been invaluable to me. I’ve been thinking of you and wondering how you were doing, thank you for coming back on here.

DesertSnow · 18/04/2023 08:33

Good news about the schools @Rowanandremy and @Amme18. Interesting about the birth rate per year affecting it. I'm now wondering if this year will be a high birth rate - I know last year was a record year for marriages (I contributed to that haha) so thinking there might be a fair few babies born this year, which down the line might affect school places... but far too early to start worrying about that!

@Nic2908 hello, lovely to hear from you, thanks for checking in. I'm glad you're taking things slowly, I hope you've been doing ok and looking after yourself.

I had my 25 week midwife appointment yesterday and it took her 15 minutes to get baby's heartbeat. I wasn't worried this time as she said straightaway she could feel baby moving. She was just running away from the doppler every time it got near her! The midwife didn't flag anything of concern (though she was surprised I haven't been told to get my whooping cough vaccination yet), but later when my notes from the appointment uploaded I looked at the GROW chart and it looks like I'm measuring only just above the 3rd centile... Anyone have any experience to share on this? Don't know if it's possible cause for concern or if it doesn't really mean that much.

OP posts:
Spiralout · 18/04/2023 08:50

@DesertSnow is that based on fundal height? My midwife told me the measurement has a 2cm error margin as it’s quite an inaccurate measurement. Looking on the chart, 2cm is equivalent to the difference between 50th percentile and 10th percentile! Scan measurements are much more accurate and if they were concerned they would get you in for an extra growth scan.

DesertSnow · 18/04/2023 08:53

@Spiralout ah yes, sorry I should have said, yes it was the fundal height measurement. Thanks so much, that's reassuring. I'm sure if she was concerned she would have said something.

OP posts:
Spiralout · 18/04/2023 09:21

@DesertSnow glad that helped! It would be good if they added that on the charts though I reckon! There’s so much to get anxious over in pregnancy, I though I might be able to relax in the second trimester but now I’m just concerned about whether there is enough movement!
Booked for a 4d scan on 6 May and can’t wait!

sally16 · 18/04/2023 11:38

@DesertSnow our trust don't check fundal height until 28 weeks and do growth scan referrals from 32 weeks so I wouldn't worry :)
She measured my bump for fun at 22 weeks and said 'yup second baby syndrome.. big bump!' 😂

allgoodthings84 · 18/04/2023 13:01

@DesertSnow I had to have 2 growth scans with my daughter because of fundal height but was fine when scanned. She did come out smaller than the scans predicted but was still within a weight where they aren’t concerned. My bump this time round is small too. I think it looks even smaller than I did at this point with my daughter when I look at pictures but I was scanned last week and although small she’s over 10th percentile so not a concern. Some people just carry differently. I fully expect to have to have growth scans this time too but I won’t be worried before having the scan this time round. I do wish I had a bigger bump though

DesertSnow · 18/04/2023 13:25

@Spiralout Yes, that would definitely be good to put on the charts! You're right, this is just such an anxious time. I'm also worrid I'm not feeling much movement, but the midwife said she is the most active baby she's come across in a while - so even if you can't feel it, may well be plenty of movement going on!

@sally16 Thank you, I'm trying not to worry. Just would feel more comfortable if my bump was a bit bigger!

@allgoodthings84 Yep, with you on wishing my bump was bigger! (I think I still just look like I've put on weight). It may be how I'm carrying - at the 20 week scan she was just under 50th centile on the chart so was just a bit concerned that her growth may have slowed for some reason... but I'm sure they'll measure again at the 28 week appointment and if need be book me in for a scan, so I'll try not to worry about it till then.

LS888 · 18/04/2023 16:49

How do you know which percentile they are in? Just wondering as this hasn’t been mentioned to me yet. And what do you mean by charts? I haven’t seen any on the app they use in my area- is this something that starts when they measure the fundal height! 🙈

allgoodthings84 · 18/04/2023 17:22

@LS888 I think it’s dependant on the trust. I don’t have charts I just know baby is over 10th percentile as the sonographer said so at my 20 weeks scan

ChloeN · 18/04/2023 17:45

@LS888 I asked my midwife today because I had an appointment! She said they often don’t mention at your 20 week scan the centile as they’re so small there’s no point, and that they’d start plotting on the chart once you’ve had your bump measured at 28 weeks! Might not be the same everywhere tho xxx

LS888 · 18/04/2023 18:43

@allgoodthings84 @ChloeN thanks ladies! I have my 25 week appointment on Thursday so I might mention it then.

So after the 25 week appointment is the next one 28 weeks? Then do they become more regular? Thinking about it I have a growth scan booked for 28 weeks so they might tell me percentiles then hopefully 🤞🏻

allgoodthings84 · 18/04/2023 18:55

@LS888 if you’re having a growth scan they will likely plot it on a chart then. I saw my consultant yesterday and she said if I need any growth scans from 28 weeks the growth will be plotted on a chart.

LS888 · 18/04/2023 18:59

@allgoodthings84 this growth scan is because I went to Cape Verde just before getting pregnant so risk of Zika. So booked in as a check. If it’s ok I don’t think I need more. The midwife said it was measuring ok at the last scan so probably just precautionary 🤞🏻

ChloeN · 18/04/2023 19:16

@LS888 yeah I think it’s 28,31,34 then every 2 weeks after! Don’t think you get quite so many if it’s not your first baby xx

Amme18 · 18/04/2023 19:51

@ChloeN I thought the same cause that’s the recommended but my midwifery team see us exactly the same amount of times regardless which is lovely!
Although she skipped my 28 because I have GTT and scan at 28 at the hospital, and she said 28 weeks is for bloods which they’ll do with my GTT.

I thought they started measuring fundal height from 24 weeks too but my midwife said they do it from 28 so must be different trusts!

ChloeN · 18/04/2023 20:00

@Amme18 oh that’s so good, I think it’s unfair to get less just because it’s not your first! Where I live you defo get less so I’ve got that to look forward to on my next baby🤣 it’s annoying how all over the place stuff is isn’t it, why aren’t they all just the same 🤦🏻‍♀️

DesertSnow · 18/04/2023 20:13

@LS888 My grow chart appeared on my Badger Notes app last night after my appointment yesterday. It doesn't have a number, just I can see where the 'x' is plotted on it. And she didnt't say anything at the appointment so wasn't expecting it. It's just given me something new to worry about! Sounds like it massively varies from trust to trust.

@ChloeN Yeah I asked at the 20 week scan about centiles and the sonographer said baby is still so small at that point they don't talk about centiles then.

I have my GTT tomorrow and am dreading it! Plus DH is away so I can't moan to him 😂After what feels like weeks of no contact, this week I've had my 25 week appointment, my GTT and then my whooping cough vaccine on Thursday.

BCxx · 18/04/2023 20:33

@DesertSnow yeah definitely don’t worry about it just now.. mine showed up small from my first measurement at 28 weeks but at my hospital you’re sent for a growth scan from 28 weeks and I think growth scans all need to be within 48 hours of your midwife appointment (or they do there) so she was like ‘no that’s nothing to worry about’ while lifting the phone to phone the hospital and book me a scan for the next day. I came away and phoned my husband like don’t panic but I don’t think this can be great 🤔 turns out everyone seems to end up needing at least one so I’m going to just appreciate the extra scan if it happens this time! I had a big baby in the end!

EsmeSusanOgg · 18/04/2023 20:34

I need flying advice! I have a UK flight next week with EasyJet, seems I should be fine as I am below 35 weeks (currently 22+4). But a couple of weeks later I'm flying with BA for a short European holiday. They like to have a letter confirming EDD, and whether it is a single or multiple pregnancy... And that there are no complications. Thing is, I have gestational diabetes. So there are complications - but midwife/ doctor are not concerned about me flying. How do I get around this requirement? Do I? Will they let me fly? We're using my airmiles and my companion voucher for the flights.. so if I cannot got, neither can my husband and son.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

sally16 · 18/04/2023 20:39

@EsmeSusanOgg is there a reason they need a letter of below the 35 weeks?
I wouldn't bother, I flew heavily pregnant last time 4 hours and no one's even looked at me twice 😅
A lot of drs etc won't give fit to fly if before 35 weeks too xx

BCxx · 18/04/2023 20:40

@EsmeSusanOgg i haven’t flown pregnant so far so no advice sorry. Ive got a BA flight within the UK next week but I think I’m just going to wear something to hide my bump and not take a letter 🙈 I’m seeing the midwife tomorrow but assume I won’t need one at this stage for a quick flight

helpmechoosepls · 18/04/2023 20:54

@EsmeSusanOgg I have flown many many many times throughout all stages of pregnancy, majority of those flights were with BA. To date, I've never once been asked for a letter from BA or any other airline confirming due date or that there are no complications. I told someone else on here the same thing, she flew and confirmed that BA also didn't bat an eyelid or ask for any sort of letter.

I'll eat my hat if they ask for anything from you
