Abnormalities on 6 week scan :(

According to my LMP I should be 6 week today. I have done 4 pregnancy tests (including one today) and all are positive. I had a private scan today and the scan/report findings are are follows…

seen within the endometrial cavity as spherical cystic structure measuring 5.2mm in diameter. Adjacent to this, an irregular shaped structure see, which is suspicious of sub-chorionic haematoma.

she did not mention seeing a gestational sac etc.

i have had no pain or bleeding etc. The Sonographer tried to refer me to the EPAU but was told I’d need a GP referral as I am not bleeding, which will likely take some time. It looked like there was two black sacks on the screen, I asked why there is two, she said she thinks it is one and collapsing down the middle to look like two.

This wait is going to kill me. Has any one experienced anything like this? What does it mean and what was the outcome? I done a clear blue test over a week ago which said 2-3 weeks.

Do you have a EPU near you? They should be there for you in the early stages and offer a scan to check things are in the right place/ progressing okay

Dan521 · 23/03/2023 21:15

Thank you for getting back to me. I had the private scan today, the Sonographer tried to refer me to the EPAU but they told her I can only be seen if I am referred through a GP. They said I can not be seen as an emergency/walk-in as I am not in pain or bleeding.

I was told to watch out for signs of ectopic pregnancy as they could not see any thing in my uterus other than what is described above.

My head is wrecked I just want to know what is happening :(

Can you self refer? Our early pregnancy unit you can submit a form online and then they phone you with an available time.

Lsmummy1 · 23/03/2023 21:52

I can't comment on the lack of gestational sack, but at my 6 week scan they also found a sub-chorionic haematoma. I'd had a little bit of spotting so wasn't a big surprise. The consultant warned me it could cause miscarriage but my body just absorbed it back and it had gone by the time I had my 9 week scan. Best of luck

Dan521 · 24/03/2023 00:00

Thank you I will call them in the morning and see what they say. In the meantime I’m wondering if any one else has had a similar experience and had a positive outcome.

@Lsmummy1 she didn’t seem quite sure what it was. I initially thought it was twins when I seen the screen because I seen two black sacs both with something in. She said it was likely to be one sac collapsing down the middle which made it look like two. What she thinks is a haematoma she described as an irregular shaped unknown with what looked like it had debris in it. I’m expecting this to end in miscarriage I’m also just baffled by the findings I’ve never know this to happen to any one. I will call the EPAU in the morning, hopefully they will shed some light on it. I should be 6 weeks right now, I done a weeks indicator test today and it said 2-3 weeks.

I’ve contacted the EPAU this morning and read the report findings to them. They have booked me in for a scan next week and said it may just be that the pregnancy is earlier than I thought and it’s a small implantation bleed. I will keep this post updated incase anyone else is looking for answers in the future.

I have just come across your thread - hoping everything went ok and you had positive news xx

Dan521 · 27/03/2023 14:56

@TheBabbaCrunch thank you!

i have been back for a scan today and I still don’t know what is going on. it said GSD measures around 7.3mm but a viable pregnancy has not been confirmed. Currently awaiting blood results and will be scanned again in a weeks time. They have suggested I may be around 4-5 weeks and it is too early to see any thing but I done a clear blue on the 14th March which come up as 2-3 weeks, so 4-5 weeks now would mean i conceived around the time I done the test.

OP posts:
Dan521 · 27/03/2023 15:28

Just had blood results which are 4562, this means something should have shown up on the scan. I’m due to go back in 2 days for re-test.

Wishing for the best outcome for you 🤍

Dan521 · 29/03/2023 13:16

@amummyy thank you, I’m currently waiting for the second blood test results. The lady who seen me today looked at my scan pics and notes and said everything looks normal for an early pregnancy of about 4-5 weeks, which is impossible because I done two weeks indicators tests (the first was 14th March) and both come back as 2-3 weeks. if I was 4-5 weeks now then that would mean I would have conceived around the time of the first test.

Blood results are back hcg has gone from around 4500 to 5182 in 48hours so they’re considered slow rising. I’m booked in for a scan on Monday.

Dan521 · 01/04/2023 22:17

@Olivia199 thank you, it’s been a long wait 😔 I’ve mentally accepted that this is not going to end in a viable pregnancy. I just hope it can be over with quickly if that is the case.

I don't mean to be alarmist in any way but have the considered a molar pregnancy? I went for what should have been an 8 week scan and was told I was only 6 weeks. I knew this couldn't be true as it would have meant I ovulated at the time I got my positive pregnancy test. Long story short I got fobbed off until my 12 week scan when they confirmed I'd had a missed miscarriage. I had a D&C as a result and it was at that stage they realised it was a molar pregnancy.

Your situation may be completely different but the point you make about your dates takes me back so I would definitely ask them if that could be a possibility.

To put your mind at rest, it took me about 6 months to get back to normal HCG levels but I now have a happy, healthy 2 year old so if it does turn out to be the same story then please know it will all be ok in the end.

Dan521 · 01/04/2023 23:42

@MLN89 thank you for sharing, a molar hadnt crossed my mind. I will research it and ask questions when I have the scan.

Hi lovely,

I had 2 early miscarriages and then I got pregnant again all within 4 months without a period inbetween. I got my positive on the 24th april went straight for scans and bloods got told they weren’t sure then it got better and confirmed a positive news. Then 3 weeks later i began to bleed. I went straight back there and they could see where the bleed was coming from and told me strictly bed rest as any big gush of blood could bring the pregnancy with it so that’s what I did.

at my scan on 6 week 4 days i had a small circle looking thing and a little bean but my due date got moved 3 times before from the 4th to the 30th to the 1st a few days here and there can be missed but ofcourse not that many.

it might just be too early you could’ve had a late or early ovulation… I know this feeling all so well and it’ll never be easy but what I can say is try and get some
rest. Do something or anything you can to make time pass quickly and pray for good news. If it doesn’t go that way. You will try again when your ready and succeed❤️. I really do hope the next few days are easy on you and we are all here if you need us.

Ask everything you need to and ring the unit if you neeed to.

please let us know how you are over the next few days and things

Twoinapod · 02/04/2023 11:54

With my first I had a regular 28 day cycle and got a positive the day at was due. At the 12 weeks scan I was measuring 2 weeks behind at 10 weeks. Which would have worked out that i conceived the same time I got my positive which is obviously not possible. The growth never caught up those 2 weeks but she’s now 11 years old. No idea why she measured 2 weeks behind but she’s perfectly healthy.

Dan521 · 02/04/2023 15:18

Thanks every one, I’ve got some cramping today but it’s not painful enough to stop me in my tracks or to take pain killers. Every slight pain I get im like this is it 😑 had trapped wind the other day and was ready to phone an ambulance 🙈 I just want it to be over one way or the other. The unknown is killing me.

I'm sorry OP and I hope you're okay, the waiting in limbo is terrible.

I have a blighted ovum a few years ago which meant there was a sac but it was empty, the wait between scans was horrible and you just want to be told one way or another.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow

Dan521 · 03/04/2023 11:16

Thanks everyone, been for the scan today there was no progress. It is pretty much an empty sac. They’ve given me different options to consider for a managed miscarriage.

Didn't want to read and run OP. So sorry xx

AnotherStory23 · 03/04/2023 12:38

Hi OP. I was also watching the thread as like @MLN89 I also had a molar pregnancy and was wondering if this is what you might have had too. I'm so sorry you going through this. I had an ERPC for the molar last year and though it was scary it was really good to know they got everything. I hope you manage to get through it all okay and know that there are a tonne of people with you.

Dan521 · 03/04/2023 16:12

They told me to go home and think about my options of how to manage it. I think I am going to go with a D&C to just get it over with. Thank you for all your support every one.
