Whooping Cough Vaccine 2023

Princess2022 · 22/03/2023 12:38

Hi ladies

Since the past few days I been thinking so much about whether to take the whooping cough vaccine or not.
I read so many things like women had stillbirths and felt less fetal movements in their pregnancy. This vaccine isn't tested on pregnant women either.
If I don't take it and my child suffers from Whooping cough I will regret and If I get the vaccine what if something goes wrong. I already suffered a miscarriage, I don't want to take any risk.
I'm going to go crazy thinking about what to do. Midwife asked me if I will be doing it I told her I will think about it.
I seen videos where Newborn are suffering from the cough and its really scary. But I don't want to lose my baby no matter what 🙁.
Can anyone tell me if they had reduced movements of baby after taking it or stillbirth?
I'm struggling to decide what to do.
Please be kind 🙏

I had mine at 20 weeks and didn't think twice about it due to how ill the baby can be with it.

I've also had 13 miscarriages before this pregnancy so I'm anxious about everything however I'm not 32 weeks with a healthy baby!

elm26 · 03/04/2023 23:39

@VictoriaBlossom I'd take all of those "possible" side effects over burying my baby.

Hmmmm I wonder WHY whooping cough is rare in the U.K… maybe JUST MAYBE it’s because there’s a well established and safe vaccine. Fucking madness on this thread.

Exactly this!

@SillyOldBear3 I’m not sure polio is as mild as you think. A relative of mine had it as a young girl and she was unable to attend school until she was 11, so severe were the effects. She walked with a stick as a young woman but most of her life was in a wheelchair.

Because she spent so much of her life compensating for the use of her legs with her hands and arms, in recent years she developed arthritis and carpal tunnel, making it difficult for her to feed herself, dress herself or go to the toilet.

She died last month, and frankly it was a bit of a relief, to have her out of pain and family members not worrying they’d find her collapsed on the floor.

MissConductUS · 06/04/2023 16:23

I've seen "vaccine skeptics" minimize the risk of smallpox, so handwaving at polio doesn't surprise me.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 06/04/2023 20:42

About 25% of people who contracted polio have any symptoms at all.

Looking at serious complications, about 1% had meningitis and (depending on strain) about 0.05-0.5% had paralysis, which could be fatal.

There is also a post-polio syndrome (usually does not appear until 15 years has passed) which is characterised by rapid muscle wasting.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 06/04/2023 20:43

Source of that, BTW, is CDC.

@Princess2022 I only got to the first reply about autism and MMR. If there is that level of misinformation (there is NO evidence that MMR causes autism) I would read that with a high level of cynicism.

Agreed. You also have no idea if the post on Netmums was genuine, and even if it was, it's an anecdote, not evidence. Millions of women have had the vaccine in pregnancy. If there were a genuine risk, it would have been noted by now.

Princess2022 · 10/04/2023 16:10

Yh that's true. My vaccine is booked for this Friday but I'm worrying every day coz I'm scared. I haven't felt baby's movement yet either. I don't want it to affect my baby. But I want to protect my baby too. I'm just gonna go through it.

Good for you. Newborns have very low immunity. Getting the jab will mean that your baby will come into the world with protection. Pertussis is an absolutely ghastly illness.

Hi @Princess2022

I too was very hesitant, I opted to have it as late as possible and it was absolutely fine.

In hindsight I actually wish I hadn't had it with my first, as the amount of people she came in contact with before her 8 week jabs was basically no one! And anyone who she did was vaccinated.

I will definitely be having it for the second as the first is in nursery and we will need to be out and about in the world much quicker.

When people talk about 'risk assessment' that's the sort of thing I think about. Not necessarily black and white.

It will be absolutely fine, but I understand your concern. X

VictoriaBlossom · 01/04/2023 14:55

@SillyOldBear3 are we both on October babies?

I won't be vaccinating til I've done my reading, I'm currently reading a book called "am I allowed" it's British which I really like

I also steered away from the covid jab. So enjoying my clean blood lifestyle

Clean blood lifestyle, jfc. People with nothing better to do than spend their time trying to encourage people to not get vaccinated are both sad and dangerous.

And netmums is as far from a reliable source of information as it gets.

MissConductUS · 10/04/2023 18:28

I know, "clean blood lifestyle", as if having antibodies against communicable diseases made you common and dirty somehow.

OrionNebula · 10/04/2023 21:48

Good decision OP.

VictoriaBlossom · 10/04/2023 22:11

@bossonext
When you lose your best friend to a blood clot, age 34, 3 days post 2nd booster, your close family member some how goes from clear smear to stage 4 cervical cancer in 5 months and consistently see coverage of people "dying suddenly" you'd understand why there's a statement about being clean blooded.

I am not anti vax, I am anti unnecessary pharmaceutical

No, still don't understand. What does clean blood lifestyle even mean?

VictoriaBlossom · 10/04/2023 22:27

@bossonext it means free from spike proteins

But where does the lifestyle part come in?

VictoriaBlossom · 10/04/2023 22:53

@bossonext it's a piss take.

The two tells for an undercover anti-vaxxer I've seen consistently on MN are

  • they say they are not an anti-vaxxer
  • they personally know someone who died from a vaccine-induced blot clot.
The fact of the matter is that only the J&J vaccine was known to cause blood clots, at a rate of 5.8 per million doses for women and 2.2 cases per million doses for men. Assuming her best friend was a woman, the chances of her getting a blood clot from the J&J vaccine were 6/1000000, or 0.0006%. As we all know, the J&J vaccine was discontinued in April of 2021. Blood clotting has never been reported for the mRNA vaccines. Call me skeptical.
