Whooping Cough Vaccine 2023

Hi ladies

Since the past few days I been thinking so much about whether to take the whooping cough vaccine or not.
I read so many things like women had stillbirths and felt less fetal movements in their pregnancy. This vaccine isn't tested on pregnant women either.
If I don't take it and my child suffers from Whooping cough I will regret and If I get the vaccine what if something goes wrong. I already suffered a miscarriage, I don't want to take any risk.
I'm going to go crazy thinking about what to do. Midwife asked me if I will be doing it I told her I will think about it.
I seen videos where Newborn are suffering from the cough and its really scary. But I don't want to lose my baby no matter what 🙁.
Can anyone tell me if they had reduced movements of baby after taking it or stillbirth?
I'm struggling to decide what to do.
Please be kind 🙏

@thelma57 there was an outbreak in 2012 because it is contagious, they then offered a vaccine before that but only offered to pregnant women after the outbreak, with very little trial.
We had less and 50 cases in the uk in 2021 and less than that last year.
It's only like the convid thing.

captncrunch · 23/03/2023 09:03

I had my babies in Australia where they actually recommend not just the mum gets is but ANY caregiver who will have contact with the newborn. So dad's, grandparents etc. I remember being really touched when my best friend turned up having had the vaccine without asking/ telling me. She went and got it because she wanted to be able to visit newborn.

There were a number of infant deaths several years ago which are fresh in people's minds over there. One was a little boy called Riley whose parents did a lot of campaigning for the vaccine and really did a great job raising public awareness.

thelma57 · 23/03/2023 09:04

Yes @VictoriaBlossom there was an outbreak
in 2012 and babies who’s mothers hadn’t been vaccinated died, even if it was only one baby (it wasn’t) it isn’t worth the risk. But if you think it is, you do you, it’s your baby and body. But I wouldn’t be able to live with myself should anything happen.

We’re so lucky to live in a world with options.

TheRookie · 23/03/2023 09:05

The thing is, most women get the whopping cough vaccine so realistically, some of those women will have fewer fetal movements and stillbirths as that is sadly what happens. It's awful but not necessarily linked to vaccine.

PurplePansy05 · 23/03/2023 09:06

OP, I had 3 miscarriages before having DS and when pregnant with him I had the flu vaccine, whopping cough and also covid vaccine. No issues whatsoever after the last two, I felt poorly for a day after the flu vaccine but fine afterwards.

Whopping cough vaccine has been extensively tested for years and it's offered to you in pregnancy to protect you and baby in case you were to have it later on in pregnancy or baby catching WC as a newborn before their own vaccinations (due to antibodies). It's there to protect and it does not cause miscarriages or stillbirths. These things happen sometimes for unrelated reasons.

I believe most people are getting the jab. I would get it aswell but I know myself I will be worried throughout my pregnancy if baby is ok or no. Just need to be positive about it.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts

No vaccines are tested on pregnant women.
Other countries have been vaccinating pregnant women for whooping cough way before 2012. And continue to do so.
It can be given from 16 weeks up to delivery, but usually offered around twenty weeks for logistical purposes.

BackOfTheMum5net · 23/03/2023 17:45

I’d be less worried about the effects of dead vaccine and more worried about the effects of live whooping cough infection.

Each to their own. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Littlelighthouse · 23/03/2023 20:04

I would personally never say no to a vaccine that could save my child's life. I lost my first son at 33 weeks of pregnancy (not related to any jab, caused by an inherited genetic condition). I had the whooping cough vaccine with my rainbow daughter, as well as the flu jab and Covid vaccine. She's a perfectly healthy 7.5 month old.

MissConductUS · 23/03/2023 20:11

It's given a bit later in the US (27 weeks) but universally recommended. Millions of American mums have had it with no safety signals.

Pregnant?

Talk to your OB or midwife about getting your whooping cough vaccine.

@VictoriaBlossom

The way clinical trials work is that ANYTHING that occurs to any participant, either in vaccine group or control group, is reported. So say for example someone was on a vaccine trial and got killed in a drive-by shooting, that will still be recorded as a death that occurred during the clinical trial even though there is no way it could have been caused by the vaccine. So all those conditions you list or not necessarily vaccine side effects.

I'd suggest anyone hesitant about getting the whooping cough vaccine during pregnancy has a look at the pinned post on the Light for Riley Facebook page.

VictoriaBlossom · 23/03/2023 20:37

@OrionNebula ok.
Literally gave my opinion and what I will be doing.
Unfortunately I have zero trust in big pharma after losing some of the closest people in my life due to vaccine damage.

That's fine, you are entitled to make that choice of course. I was just explaining for the benefit of others on this thread that the list of conditions you gave are not necessarily caused by the whooping cough vaccine just because they were observed and recorded during clinical trials.

Correlation does not equal causation, just because event B (bad health event) follows event A (vaccine) doesn't mean event A caused event B.

sugarspices · 23/03/2023 20:44

I've had the flu, covid & whooping cough vaccines with this pregnancy and the only side effect I felt was a slightly raised temp the day after my whooping cough vaccine. I had it at 22 weeks and didn't notice any baby movement changes. Had a 30 week growth scan today and everything looking bang on! X

Hi, had the whooping cough vaccine this pregnancy and last. DD1 is now a healthy happy3 year old. And I am 33 weeks along with a kicking baby now. A lot of my friends have been pregnant over the last few years no one has had any I’ll affects from this vaccine.

SillyOldBear3 · 25/03/2023 21:14

I've decided not to have it. I won't be having any vaccines when pregnant. I'm even trying to avoid drugs which are supposedly safe, like paracetamol. I'd rather not take any risks as I know if anything happened I would forever question it. Whooping cough is uncommon in the UK and I have no trust in pharmaceuticals post Covid.

BackOfTheMum5net · 25/03/2023 21:47

Pretty rare. At the time it was decided to offer pregnant women whooping cough vaccines, only 11 babies were dying each year of whooping cough in the UK.

Whatnow10 · 26/03/2023 08:12

I'm not going to have it. I just don't feel keen with all the extra ingredients and god knows what it contains. Haven't with any of my pregnancies.

VictoriaBlossom · 01/04/2023 11:44

@SillyOldBear3 I'm on your train. I too won't even take paracetamol. after reading the court case in America.... big, fat, no

SillyOldBear3 · 01/04/2023 14:30

@VictoriaBlossom I've not read that, but nothing surprises me any more! What's your stance on vaccinating baby? Have to admit I'm hesitant 😕 I had some reactions to childhood vaccines, and the amount they give to babies these days when their bodies are just so tiny.. really doesn't sit well with me. I have a LOT of reading to do this pregnancy....

Sallyh87 · 01/04/2023 14:52

Hi @VictoriaBlossom, what court case is that? I tried googling but couldn’t find one.

VictoriaBlossom · 01/04/2023 14:55

@SillyOldBear3 are we both on October babies?

I won't be vaccinating til I've done my reading, I'm currently reading a book called "am I allowed" it's British which I really like

I also steered away from the covid jab. So enjoying my clean blood lifestyle
