@JJM13 so so sorry 😔 sending you a massive hug. I hope the next steps don't drag on too long for you.

Alexandra07 · 05/03/2023 21:33

@JJM13 no need to take any decisions now. Give yourself time to heal. I am 41 and Pg, there are a lot of couples older than you that have healthy babies. Take care! x

SnookyPook · 05/03/2023 21:34

@JoanneV check out Online4Baby. We bought a travel system from there in a bundle with several other useful items (highchair etc) for a decent price. The downside is as it's online you obviously can't try stuff out. I was lucky that my sister had the same one and I tried it out with my niece while I was pregnant. There is so much out there, it can get a bit overwhelming. We had Joie stuff and it certainly wasn't as pretty as some that my friends had but it got us around and worked fine etc. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Improbablecat · 05/03/2023 22:06

Hi folks, I hope it's OK to join this thread.

I'm 8+3 with my second, had a private scan as we weren't sure at all about dates, I hadn't actually had a period after coming off the pill!

I have terrible HG, I had it with my first until week 20 but am feeling worse than that time round. On Cyclizine 3x daily which means I can function at work but I'm wiped out. Anyone else struggling with this just now? 😫

I see some of you are in Glasgow waves we're nearby too

JJM13 · 05/03/2023 20:44

I’ve had strong pregnancy symptoms including nausea heartbeat at 6 weeks on nhs scan to rule out ectopic today on private scan at 8 weeks which i booked before i had the 6 week one. No heartbeat . MMC awaiting an appointment to talk about what’s next . I was told good heartbeat and nausea miscarriage risk was well down and yet it’s happened anyway 😓

So sorry what you are going through. I am going through the same right now. Just waiting for it to be done. Popping to epu in the morning.

PrimarilyParented · 05/03/2023 22:31

@JoanneV I bought a second hand bugaboo pram for £60 off eBay (local collection) then sold the covers (beige and not to my taste) for £30 and bough covers in the colours I like. It’s amazing and I love it and have kept it.

fwiw I never connected a car seat to the pram. It’s bad for the baby to be in a car seat for extended periods anyway (I think 45 mins is the maximum recommended when they’re little and leaving them to sleep in car seats indoors is risky and has caused SIDS in some cases). given that I live rurally anyway I figured it would never be less than 45 minutes my baby would be in the car seat even if I was only doing a 10 minute supermarket shop.

instead I have a revolving car seat that lasts from birth to age 4 and is amazing for saving your back as it turns to you to place the baby in and then you twist it back into position. Cost about £200 on Amazon but lasted until my tall first born was 3.5 and he could technically go in it now based on weight he’s just too leggy for it.

Baby1023 · 05/03/2023 22:39

@JJM13 so sorry to hear you news 💔 thinking of you x x x

mariamari · 05/03/2023 23:25

@JJM13 @Happyhappy39soon40 sending love & strength to you. So sorry to hear your news. Big big hugs xxxx

JoanneV · 06/03/2023 02:38

Thanks for everyone's opinions on travel systems. Think I will go separate. I think when you're FTM you just want to make sure you're getting everything and that's why travel systems seem simpler but after hearing everyones experiences I don't think I'd use the car seat to buggy feature at all really. Will defo get the Joie 360, seems to be the favourite and looks good, isn't too expensive either which is great. I'll keep an eye for second hand buggies in good nick I can buy a new cover or for any deals on new ones I can get my hands on. Bit of an overthinker so I've been reading all about cosleeping, breastfeeding, cloth nappies and elimination communication. So much stuff to get your head around never mind the whole pregnancy, labour and birth.

And of course insomnia striking again.

AlongcameLainey · 06/03/2023 05:46

Joie 360 is amazing. I wouldn’t use any other car seat now.

my insomnia seems to have eased just vivid dreams now.

I woke up in a panic today over the size of the baby - my first DD was unexpectedly 9ib11oz and someone said your babies get bigger each time so now I’m in a stress over it 😅

Ss32 · 06/03/2023 06:18

I was adamant when I was pregnant with my first that I wouldn’t use the car seat on the pram and then baby came and screamed every single time she was in the bassinet (possibly a bit reflux-y but she was also very nosey!). After a couple of weeks of screamy walks, I tried the car seat and she was as happy as Larry so, from then on, I could only use the car seat on the pram!

Alexandra07 · 06/03/2023 06:56

@JoanneV just in case you haven't thought about it, even if you don't want to clip the carseat on the pram, you may don't want to wake up the baby when sleeping in the car seat. I found it very useful to be able to put DD in carseat at home, while still inside, and calm her down, and then clip the carseat on the isofix, then if sleeping just bring her in and let her sleep a bit longer. You don't wake up sleeping babies! It's true as mentioned before that when they are small they shouldn't be long in carseats.

There are some very good Facebook groups about rear facing carseats which are safer even for older children. The comment I remember for Joie 360 was that the child will outgrow it because of the height first, it fits children with small torso height compared to some others in the market. Worth checking this if both you and your partner are tall.

Mamabear345 · 06/03/2023 08:38

We used the Doona (car seat with wheels) as our car seat and it was amazing! Worth every penny, and will be buying it again for this baby too. The wheels for getting it in and out of the car, running errands, nipping into shops etc just made life so easy. And, if you like to travel it was amazing for that too.
Then we used the Silvercross wave for longer walks/ going places so DD could be in the bassinet.

BabyG2loading · 06/03/2023 09:02

@JJM13 and @Happyhappy39soon40 - I am so so sorry for your losses - it’s such a hard time when you get that news. Thinking of you both xx

VictoriaBlossom · 06/03/2023 09:16

@Mamabear345 I have my heart set on a Doona. I have an Audi a1 as my daily car as I'm still waiting for my new car to arrive, of which I've now decided I am going to sell it as I've lost the excitement for it. Plus I'll make some money selling it as I paid for it 2 years ago.

My A1 is really tiny and when I saw the doona I thought it looked amazing. Is it not really really heavy though? Boyfriend wasn't as impressed as me, and he was like do you realise how heavy babies are in car seats

@AlongcameLainey My first was 8lb 15oz. My second was 7lb 13.5oz which was a surprise as I thought I was looking at a 9lber at least. Might be the same for you.

Is anyone not having an early scan?

HistoryFanatic · 06/03/2023 10:48

Personally I wouldn't pay much for the pram because by the time the child is one you will buy a cheap fold down stroller like a silver cross pop which is easier to carry etc.

cruciverbalista · 06/03/2023 11:22

@HistoryFanatic no plans for an early scan here. Just need to try to keep the anxiety at bay for the next 3 weeks!

Jealousofchiliheeler · 06/03/2023 11:49

@JJM13 and @Happyhappy39soon40 so sorry to hear about your losses. Hope you are doing ok given the circumstances.

blebbleb · 06/03/2023 12:05

@HistoryFanatic I wouldn't bother with an early scan if it's a first pregnancy and not high risk. I'm having one after 8 weeks at my EPU this time, but only because I had a missed miscarriage in December. I wouldn't want to pay £80 for one myself but I can see why some people like them. I didn't have one when I was pregnant with my son.

HistoryFanatic · 06/03/2023 12:10

@blebbleb I am not bothering as don't have the money. I did have early scans with my first two but they were IVF. This is a little surprise. Just curious how many are not. The weeks feel so long though!

@cruciverbalista Five weeks roughly here. ☹️

SillyOldBear3 · 06/03/2023 12:47

Scared myself yesterday. Had the tiniest bit of a pink tinge to my discharge when I wiped. Thought I'd take a quick cheapie to reassure myself and the line was much fainter than it had been.. obviously I panicked.. did lots of Googling.. I'd heard of the hook effect so tried diluting my pee with 50% water and lo and behold, a very strong line again! So just a note to say don't test beyond 7 weeks!!! Anyone else experienced the hook effect?

No sign of spotting today so praying everything is OK. I have my booking in app tomorrow afternoon, I'll be 7 weeks 6 days.

LaVitesse2022 · 06/03/2023 13:11

I'd be really interested in hearing from parents who haven't got a car - which type of travel system did you use? I don't need a car seat but I might get one that is easy to fix to most cars for when travelling abroad and to/from airport on a taxi. I'm really keen to rely as much as possible on a sling, but realise that a pram might be useful in some cases.

BeaKind · 06/03/2023 14:00

So sorry to hear of your news @JJM13 abd @Happyhappy39soon40 😢

@HistoryFanatic I have no plans for an early scan yet! However, I am absolutely dying to tell my mum though and really would love to at Easter. Last time it was so easy hiding it as it was lockdown. Now every time I see her I want to blurt it out!

I ovulated 2 weeks later than I should have (pcos) so IF NHS go by my last period they might end up scanning me early (maybe around 9/10 weeks) Is it naughty if I don’t correct them? 🙈😬 I’d just love a scan before Easter! I wonder if then they would do another scan or just leave it there til 20 weeks? 🤔

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 06/03/2023 14:21

@BeaKind I had my booking in appointment with my midwife on Friday last week and I told her I'm actually a week behind because I ovulated late but she said no matter what they go by my last period to date me. It means I'll get my 12 week scan a week early but then the next one will still be 20 weeks- hope that makes sense
