Same here. Has anyone mastered sleeping when the baby sleeps during the day? I should but all I want to do is look at her 🥰

Due March 2023 - Thread 9
NM1819 · 20/03/2023 23:50

Well, after a few hours of contractions little miss was born just before 11pm. Was very quick, shes now feeding away. Born at the exact amount of weeks and days my son was born. Don't know her weight yet as she's feeding a lot. Can't believe she's actually here. Now to introduce her to her big brother in the morning!

Dreamingof3 · 21/03/2023 00:09

@ChristmasJumpers how can you not stare though 😍

Congratulations @NM1819 🎉

SleepySlumber · 21/03/2023 02:07

Ohhh these babies are sooooo cute! I actually can’t believe I have one in my belly! 😂Just doesn’t seem real at all.

Not sleeping tonight thanks to carpal tunnel and acid reflux 😭

NM1819 · 21/03/2023 02:56

Thanks @Dreamingof3. She's now asleep after feeding constantly till 2. I hadn't eaten much all day as felt off so she hadn't obviously gotten much from me! Can't sleep as just want to get home to DS.

Cats23 · 21/03/2023 03:19

Congratulations @Dreamingof3 and @Rainbowbaby23 - So sorry you had a hard time, sending you all the best for a speedy recovery!

Cats23 · 21/03/2023 03:21

How long does it take for breast milk to ' settle'?
Ive been feeding Baby Astrid for a week now ( takento it so well) but Im again lucky with milk but so full all the time its a bit uncomfy!

Deut28 · 21/03/2023 08:17

@Rainbowbaby23 that's such a tough start, you poor thing! I found the postnatal ward were quite quick to push formula top ups because it's the easiest/quickest way to get you discharged and free up space. They're short staffed and don't have time to give the breastfeeding support you actually need.

It's totally normal newborn behaviour to seem really hungry and cluster feed. It signals to your body that you've had a baby who needs feeding and will start to increase your milk supply over the next few days and weeks. Your colostrum is nutritionally complete and full of immune-boosting goodness for your baby. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You don't have to give a formula top up unless there's a compelling clinical need (like baby's blood sugars have dropped several times). In fact, doing so might delay or compromise your supply because your body isn't getting those signals to increase its supply.

I've found this Insta account from a NHS midwife and lactation consultant really useful. She's just had a baby too, so is living through those early days. There's lots there about the newborn days, establishing your supply, and even some advice about if you've had a major blood loss, which it sounds like you did. Hope it helps.

@Rainbowbaby23 And this Instagram Live on top ups in hospital might be helpful: www.instagram.com/tv/CeDngd7AV0q/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

@cat23 sounds like you're doing brilliantly! It can take six weeks for your milk supply to settle down. At this point your baby's stomach is still growing and your body is figuring out how much you need to make.

muminlndn · 21/03/2023 08:24

@Cats23 for me last time, it took about 6 weeks to stop getting 'rock boobs' and leaking loads at night 😅
If you're really confident with supply you can manage milk production a bit by only feeding on one side each feed or for a set period of time, e.g use the left for 2 hours, then switch to the right for the next 2 hours

Missy95 · 21/03/2023 08:31

Hi all. Congratulations on all the beautiful babies born last week and into this week! I hope you are all doing well, sorry to hear some of you had a tough time but hopefully things are looking up!

39+3 here, been having 'false labour' pains and symptoms for weeks now😩 its very frustrating when your body tricks you so much! Im soooo ready for our little baba to be here now and need to try not be so impatient. Booked in for a sweep on Thursday so really hoping to meet bubs by the weekend, but who knows!

1st world problems - ordered a new mattress and now reluctant to unpack when it arrives as worried waters might break on it 😂 xxx

TeddyBeans · 21/03/2023 09:13

@ChristmasJumpers I had a 2.5 hour nap yesterday with little miss sleeping in her cot at the end of the bed for a little bit longer. Given it's the first time in 3 weeks I've actually been able to nap when she napped, I don't know if I'd say I was successful 😂 but I felt bloody marvellous after!

@TeddyBeans I am very impressed! We've banished visitors for today so we can have a day just the three of us and hopefully some naps along the way.

Congratulations to all the news mummies recently, I have been terrible at keeping up!!

AK93 · 21/03/2023 10:22

Aw all these gorgeous babies ❤

congratulations @Rainbowbaby23 , I had been waiting for your announcement! Wishing you a good recovery with hopefully not too much pain!

@NM1819 congratulations!

Welcome @SleepySlumber & @Allthesmallthings90 we’ll probably be onto our next thread soon! Not too many of us left to go though!! Beginning to wonder if I will have a March or April baby! Lol

JB2021 · 21/03/2023 11:01

Just had my sweep (due date today).

Had sweep at midwife led standalone unit which is my preference for where to birth. They have 2 pools and I knew one wasn't working. Turns out both are out of us.

Totally thrown me now as I love the standalone birth centre as I've visited and it's calm BUT I'd like a pool/water birth. The hospital we haven't seen the labour ward, they do have pools but obviously not guaranteed of they are already in use. Plan to ring and see if are available for us as if they aren't working if helps make the decision easier.

Rose429 · 21/03/2023 11:43

@JB2021 @Allthesmallthings90 Happy due date! Let’s hope we’re having March babies and not April haha 😂

AK93 · 21/03/2023 11:43

@JB2021 how was it? I have my second attempt today!

I’d also really like the opportunity of using a pool even if only for a bit, so hoping something happens in next few days or I probably won’t get to if induced! Fingers crossed there may be one available when you want at the hospital Maybe can ask for warm water and flannels as something although obviously not the same! unless it’s hot water that’s the issue xx

JB2021 · 21/03/2023 11:47

@AK93 it wasn't as bad as I thought. 1cm dilated and cervix is soft so that's positive. I did feel the sweeping.

Rung hospital and their pools are working but they have 2 for whole city/county. The birth Centre much calmer, only low risk allowed there so now it's how much I want water vs a calming environment

AK93 · 21/03/2023 11:53

Oh that’s good, midwife couldn’t reach mine properly so not sure how hopeful to be today. She said it doesn’t mean nothing is happening just she couldn’t get close enough. Definitely not a comfortable procedure though! Didn’t realise my partner could see my face as they’d pulled curtain but he said he saw me wincing!

I think there’s two pools at my hospital (from what I’ve seen anyway) but yeah annoying you have to wait until the time to know if you can use one! A hard decision to make for you but think about the other things you may be able to do or have to make it more calm regardless whether hospital or birthing centre. I’m guessing if anything was to make you higher
risk while at birthing centre they might transfer you to hospital anyway so a good idea to think of things you think might help keep you calm or comfortable xx

JB2021 · 21/03/2023 12:04

@AK93 yes it's a tough one. I loved the birth Centre from my visit to open day in January. But we had a few extra scans in Feb that meant we might be high risk so wouldn't be able to go there so I didn't get my hopes up.

Moved back to low risk so decided in midwife birth Centre and today just thrown me, especially as its so close. So many people say how much water has helped them

I've got my own lavender spray, music playlist ready, it's just the water aspect plus the environment.

We had always planned to transfer to the birth Centre if I gave birth at the hospital but I think I'll be like, get me home, then if I struggle with breastfeeding I think I'll give up rather than persevering. If I'm at the birth Centre the help is there when I need it.

Oh dear - FTM issues! We knew one pool at birth Centre was out but not both. Husband says at least we know now rather than when we rock up in labour which is true but also makes more decisions whereas if we didn't know it would be tough!

Blocklynn · 21/03/2023 13:27

@JB2021 they were both out of order when I went into labour. Something about needing a new filter.
St Marys said to check with the hospital if they were allowing gas and air in the pool rooms as they weren’t sure. If that’s something you want.

JB2021 · 21/03/2023 13:35

@Blocklynn is that both at St Mary's? They are waiting for contractors to come to fix

St Mary's have gas and air whole time in one room and can use it for a bit of time in the other.

Rung LRI and they have 2 pools both working.

Just totally thrown me. I want St Mary's but want water!!!!

Blocklynn · 21/03/2023 13:49

@JB2021 yes sorry both pools at St Marys were out of order and that’s from over 2 weeks ago now.
Check LRI will get you have gas and air in the pool rooms.

I wish I had been able to have the pool, I think I relied too much on the gas and air, then didn’t want to move off the bed which didn’t help my labour.
Maybe I would have still had to transfer to LRI but 🤷‍♀️

JB2021 · 21/03/2023 14:14

@Blocklynn thanks. In a way I wish we hadn't found out until we were at St Mary's in labour cos then it's too late/tough. If they've been out for that long then hopefully it'll be sorted soon (wishful thinking). We were told my by GP midwife one wasn't working but that was for another reason.
