@AnnieApple123 I completely agree with you about house messes increasing stress. I've noticed a big difference when the house starts to slip into messy chaos and I know dw does too, we both get stressed by it. We moved 8 months ago and have only just got to grips with some rooms, mostly because of trying to decorate around everything and then I was quite ill in the first trimester which ground most things to a halt.

I keep thinking I'm getting brain fog because my memory is worse than usual, a lot of the time I feel like I'm forgetting something but I can never remember what it is and I frequently walk into rooms and I've completely forgotten what I was going in for. Also things I know how to do or meals I used to know like the back of my hand, I'm fumbling through it as if I've never done it or made it before.

newmummie · 23/03/2023 20:04

What would you all describe round ligament pain as? Past few hours Ive had an intense pain in my tummy and back it's moving from the front to the back and really painful - I've experienced this pain before and went to A&E when I was 11 weeks, they told me 100% round ligament pain, I have it tonight and it's just so painful, I want it to go ASAP

Rowanandremy · 23/03/2023 20:30

I hope this works and there’s our scan picture - if not I’ve no clue 😂

@BCxx Ha yes, I did rather think that a boy at nearly 22 weeks gestation would have made himself known at some point given all the angles they have to check 😂 But my DH said 'what if he just has a really small todger?' 🙄 Yeah, we're not going to say we're looking for confirmation of gender at the private scan, and just say we have no idea. I'm just so surprised if it is a girl! DH is one of three boys and his wider family is all boys. And I just always thought it would be a boy - though I know that's not scientific 😅

Rowanandremy · 23/03/2023 20:33

@newmummie I get pulling pain if I stand or move too quickly, usually at the side or across my stomach. Sometimes it feels quite deep and intense and nothing really seems to help it. Not sure if that’s round ligament pain but I’ve only recently started to have more of it so
planning on asking the midwife next week. Sorry I’m not much help

BCxx · 23/03/2023 21:00

@Rowanandremy that’s exactly what I’ve had since quite early on.. it catches me by surprise if I stand up quickly, I quite often have to stop and lean forwards to catch my breath til it goes away. I have no idea whether that’s it or not

BCxx · 23/03/2023 21:02

Omg that is it! Had no idea what I was feeling for all these weeks

‘Round ligament pain can feel like a sharp, pulling pain or dull ache on one or both sides of the lower belly, hips or groin area.’

AnnieApple123 · 23/03/2023 21:42

@Createcomet I’ve had friends say the same about working part-time. They end up doing far more than their contracted hours as emails come in on their days off that they still need to respond to, etc. So difficult and frustrating.

@BMK My issues with being a SAHM are the isolation, lack of adult conversation (thank goodness for mumsnet!), lack of mental stimulation plus lack of identity and independence. I really can understand why some of those women in the 50s ended up going crazy.

AnnieApple123 · 23/03/2023 21:52

@BCxx My day has been similar. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been nesting, yet it will surely all need doing again before July/August!

OP posts:
Rowanandremy · 23/03/2023 22:00

@BCxx so it is round ligament pain! Guess I don’t need to mention it to the midwife next week 😂 I got it a little bit in the early stages and then ages without and now it’s quite frequent. I wasn’t like this with my first pregnancy so don’t know if the ligaments are just a bit keen because they’ve been through this before or what 😂 I double over with it too, it used to scare my wife witless but she’s a bit more used to it happening now that she asks if it’s the same thing I’m always getting.

BCxx · 23/03/2023 22:18

@Rowanandremy definitely! Well I’m glad it’s actually a thing and not just something weird happening to me. Mine is always both sides and deep in my groin.. I described it at the start as feeling like it was coming from my ovaries. It’s obviously the spasm that causes the sudden shock and feeling like I can’t just stand up normally and ignore it. I didn’t have it first time either

BCxx · 23/03/2023 22:22

@AnnieApple123 oh I’m sure it will. I just think it will be way easier to keep on top of if I have less stuff. I was getting so fed up of going through my wardrobe feeling like nothing fit me so I’ve just put the whole lot in vacuum bags in the cupboard and left the things I can actually wear so tomorrow I’ll be able to open my wardrobe and easily get something to wear. I think I’m going to get a cleaning company in late July to do a big deep clean as I probably won’t manage much by then and would rather start the newborn phase on a clean slate if my husband is going to try and keep on top of it himself a while

Rowanandremy · 23/03/2023 22:36

@BCxx how interesting we didn’t get it with our first pregnancies but it’s very present now. I’d heard of it before but had no clue it could be as sharp and painful. I’m the first trimester it felt like it was mostly groin going towards my hips but now it’s very much across my stomach. I have it a lot when I go from sitting to standing, even when I try to be really careful - it doesn’t seem to make much difference. I wonder if it’ll be something that happens the whole way through?

BMK · 23/03/2023 23:06

@BCxx @Rowanandremy that's exactly what I also have for weeks now,and in previous pregnancies; but didn't know what it was or the term . I really get it when get up too quickly and indeed also have to stop to recover for a few seconds before thinking of moving again!
@AnnieApple123 I totally understand: I couldn't do it. I have tried but felt like I was wasting away mentally with no stimulation or adult conversation/mental challenge! I am very academic and always in my head though so I think that's particularly why I was so unsuited to staying at home. I was so jealous of my OH getting to go to work and literally a day anywhere-even shopping- was like a joy and exciting versus the daily grind which actually got to me a lot. But then I'm also a perfectionist so the baby mess and child mess around house slso drove me mad, particularly when couldn't keep on top of it and the exhaustion of trying to ! Just felt like a zombie and wreck. So I have overdone the work and regret that as missed a lot and then went the opposite and hated that,so now am in the middle. Much better but not to say it again but an Au pair has been the lifesaver!**school would likely do similar magic when that kicks in. I really think you need to cater for you too. If that's how you're feeling, you can't really be happy SAH? Have you anything you'd really love to be doing?
I have my 21 wk scan tm so really hoping thry say it's a girl; I am convinced it is but have equally been convinced and wrong both last times!
I am currently sitting on couch with fire and candles lit and cat curled in beside me with the wind howling and rain lashing outside, and it's so lovely and peaceful!!

Shinea · 24/03/2023 06:45

Have you l all feeling movements? I m 18 weeks pregnant and no movements yet also bit of cramping on my side and down there.
I m bit stressed about these :(

marleyandme · 24/03/2023 07:04

@Shinea yes I'm over 20 weeks now and feel movements pretty much everyday but they only started around 18 weeks for me. This is my first so I didn't know what to expect and I felt them first when I got into bed at night and stayed quiet to try and feel them. They started as tiny flutters or gas bubbles almost. I didn't feel them everyday either, it's only been in the last week they've been getting stronger and more regular. You're still early at 18 weeks as they say it can take up to 24 weeks so try not to worry too much yet!

CityKity · 24/03/2023 11:06

21 week scan done! All good with baby, aside from being wriggly and keeping its hand over its face a lot.
We decided to not find out the gender which is exciting BUT we’re both pretty sure it’s a boy. We had a 2nd yr medical student in the room with us and when they told us to look away DH heard her say ‘I think I know what it is’ , which he thinks you would only say if you saw boy parts. What do you guys think? I’m really annoyed he heard that because otherwise we’d be blissfully ignorant/surprised but I feel like the surprise we were hoping for is slight ruined. I don’t actually mind the gender either way, but it’s the ruined surprise and feeling like we almost definitely know. DH has even slipped and called the baby ‘he’ as I think that’s imbedded in his mind now.
Anyway, delighted and relieved that everything else was looking good.

@BMK I hope your scan goes well today!

newmummie · 24/03/2023 12:16

I have my 20 week scan today! I literally can't sit still with excitement to find out the gender, I have serious butterflies, I just hope there's no issues and baby has legs open for us to see, I'm soooo excited 🥹🥹🥹

CityKity · 24/03/2023 12:48

Good luck to you too @newmummie , I knew there was a bunch of us getting scanned today!

AnnieApple123 · 24/03/2023 12:58

@CityKity I’d feel exactly the same way about the surprise being ruined. As you say, it’s the surprise element that matters not the gender itself. Honestly though I think the student could equally well have said that about a girl.

All the best to everyone having scans today. xxx

OP posts:
BCxx · 24/03/2023 12:58

@CityKity glad the scan went well! The sonographer showed us ours was a girl by showing us the three lines that are there instead of ‘boy bits’.. I didn’t ever see once last time that my son was a boy, even after knowing. I don’t think her saying she thinks she knows has given it away, it could just as easily be the three lines she’s seen rather than anything else

BCxx · 24/03/2023 13:00

Aww good luck @newmummie so exciting to see what else we have in the group! 💖💙

AnnieApple123 · 24/03/2023 13:00

@Shinea This is my second baby and I wasn’t completely certain of movement until just before 20 weeks. Please don’t worry. As @marleyandme says, up to 24 weeks is considered normal.

OP posts:
BCxx · 24/03/2023 13:03

@Shinea i really wouldn’t worry, keep an eye on the pains if they’re getting bad but I think it’s normal to have pains on and off, it could be something other than baby. I’m 18 (almost 19) weeks and have been feeling baby for the last 2 weeks I’d say but only because it’s my second and I know what it feels like. They’re still small kicks and not like proper ones through my skin yet. I’ve noticed some days like yesterday I’ve gone most of the day with none though but other days I notice it a few times at least. I don’t think I properly noticed it until nearer 20 weeks last time and even after that he went quiet again for a while then maybe 22/23 weeks was when the obvious kicks started regularly

AnnieApple123 · 24/03/2023 13:16

@BMK We sound similar as I’m also very academic and perfectionist. Very unexpectedly it’s partly been working with my obstetrician and psychologist which has triggered my recent feelings of wasting my education. They are both women who are highly accomplished in their fields, have published widely in addition to their clinical work, etc. Although in fairness both are significantly older than I am and their children are now grown-up.

The reality for me is that I will continue to be a SAHM for the foreseeable future for a number of practical reasons. I think the key lies in finding other ways to maintain sanity like keeping up with hobbies and interests, spending time with friends. The worst bit was when I just had one young baby who pretty much just fed and napped all day and Covid massively compounded the isolation. It’s got better as DS has got older, become verbal and is capable of doing so much more.
