@havanamama I got my syringes on prime £4 came the next day and they are the ones they give you in hospital if you still want to do it

I was supposed to have a breastfeeding & colostrum consultation today, but they didn't ring me.

I don't really understand the point of colostrum collection before baby is born.

Why would I need to give baby syringes when I will have my breasts?
I get the idea of you have a premature baby, but my baby is going to be full term. 🤔

Moonicorn · 21/02/2023 18:16

Hi ladies, it’s me cuppasoupmonster, just done my now-and-then name change!

@havanamama harvesting colostrum is a great idea whether baby is term or early! If you have a CS, or blood loss, or need a repair in theatre, it means baby can feed without delay. If you’re exhausted (highly likely after a 12+ hour labour!) again, partner can give it to them. Loads of full term babies take a couple of days to learn to latch properly, so again, having a stash of colostrum means you won’t be hassled to formula feed by midwives. Honestly breastfeeding is so hit and miss, you can be absolutely committed to it but if the baby isn’t playing ball then you can’t ‘make’ it happen. So I would highly recommend bringing some with you just so you’re ready for whatever plays out.

Saltandpepperr · 21/02/2023 18:16

@havananana it's not just prem babies that can't feed I was taught.
It can benefit your baby if you can’t breastfeed right after birth. Sometimes they don't latch straight away, might need time away from you or even mums not being able to feed straight away. I've got 10 syringes so far in the freezer.

Saltandpepperr · 21/02/2023 18:23

I have been very greedy tonight I made a curry and then had loads of snacks also after and now I feel so sick and stuffed wish I never done that feel heavy as it is without the added food.

Perexi · 21/02/2023 19:21

Does anyone have any maternity leggings recs? I've lived in maternity jeans for months quite literally but realise I'm going to need some erm softer item's of clothes for coming home in and beginning of motherhood..... just want some black leggings non see through that I can wear with a jumper.

TeddyBeans · 21/02/2023 19:31

@Perexi I got mine from very this time round. Didn't want to pay extortionate amounts for 'plus size maternity clothes'. Would recommend getting a few sizes as I don't know if they're small to size or if I just got fatter quickly 🤣 I'm in a 22 at the moment and even they've split up the thigh seams. Pre pregnancy I was bordering 18-20. They do loads of sizes though and I've found them good for not being seethrough!

muminlndn · 21/02/2023 19:32

No specific recs, but unless all your tops/jumpers cover your bum it might be better to go with joggers as the massive maternity pads can look a bit nappy-like in leggings 😅

Marfs10 · 21/02/2023 19:33

@Perexi i bought some really comfy ones (and non see through!) from Sainsburys. I went the size up and they’re lovely and comfy, they’re the only thing I’ve worn for the last 3 weeks!

@havanamama harvested colostrum can also be really helpful for when you get home - if you’ve missed early feeding cues and baby has gotten themselves worked up, a little bit can just calm them down enough to get latched on for a full feed

Dreamingof3 · 21/02/2023 19:55

@Perexi I got mine from love leggings...more than I'd normally want to pay for leggings but I have found them good, nice and thick and decent sizing

Perexi · 21/02/2023 20:18

Erm had not even thought about that 😂 ffs all the glamour!

Maybe I'll get both! I think I'm still my normal size 14/16 I have been so far with jeans and tops at least will check out those brands thanks!

havananana · 21/02/2023 20:31

I swear by M&S yoga leggings, they keep you in whilst being very stretchy too

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 21/02/2023 20:31

@Perexi another one for love leggings, they’re a bit pricey but the quality matches the price tag!

Moonicorn · 21/02/2023 20:37

I did buy love leggings but they’re very expensive, the legs are narrow so they feel very tight and there’s no room for the arse! As in the distance between the groin and the start of the maternity band is really small if that makes sense. I also really dislike over the bump waistbands, they really dig in and feel like they’re dragging the bump down rather than supporting it. The best leggings I’ve found are Matalan non-maternity in 2 sizes bigger - nice thick waistband, under the bump and very stretchy.

allthingssparkly · 21/02/2023 20:37

Wow, the bump tightenings are really happening tonight 😳

I hope everyone is doing ok 🙏 not long now for some of us, hopefully 🤞

Sending lots of good luck wishes ✨️

Splashh · 21/02/2023 20:46

Got mine from love leggings too! They do awesome joggers over the bump and really stretchy/soft material..

Saltandpepperr · 21/02/2023 20:49

New look maternity leggings I've been wearing they feel amazing.

dmb91 · 21/02/2023 20:49

5 weeks until due date and people are asking what they can buy us 🤯 seems mad that people are waiting until now given they've had over 20 weeks notice!

I feel like we have already got everything we NEED, but any ideas for little bits we might not have thought about? Or little luxury items that we wouldn't buy ourselves?

Noodle20 · 21/02/2023 20:58

Another one for love leggings, the joggers are so comfy and stretchy!! I've got about 5 pairs I live in, worth every penny in my eyes

TeddyBeans · 21/02/2023 21:00

@allthingssparkly wish I was, little miss seems happy as Larry where she is at the moment 😮‍💨 just tightening or do you think it could lead to more??

@dmb91 love it when people do that! The thing that got my goat was the offers to buy things which never materialised (exMIL and the cot for example) a newborn photoshoot would be top of my list of luxury items. I have some gorgeous shots of DS at about 12 days old 🥰🥰🥰

allthingssparkly · 21/02/2023 21:18

I don't know @TeddyBeans they're so weird, kinda painful, kinda uncomfortable. I've never gone into spontaneous labour before so don't really know what to expect but when I stand up I literally feel like I need to run to the toilet 😳

Google tells me tightenings can be a sign of labour 🤷‍♀️

TeddyBeans · 21/02/2023 21:23

@allthingssparkly I've not done spontaneous labour either, so can't help with that one 😅 does sound like something might be happening though! Keep us updated!

I feel INSANE I’m only awake from a nap and now i am crying over not having a swimming pool in my living room like in my dream because I want to go for a swim😂😂😂

allthingssparkly · 21/02/2023 21:40

Will definitely keep you posted @TeddyBeans 😊😊

TeddyBeans · 21/02/2023 21:41

@Rainbowbaby23 aaah good old pregnancy dreams 🤣

Rainbowbaby23 · 21/02/2023 21:46

My baby’s dad is also stressing me out lol
he's been in a new relationship for a couple of months and wants to introduce the baby to her right away but I said I'm not comfortable with baby meeting either partners unless we’ve been in a long/stable relationship for maybe a year or so? I thought that was pretty standard and fair as I don’t want him to get attached to his multiple partners for them to not be there one day🙃
