HELP WITH TEST POSITIVE OR FALSE DUE TO MEDICATION

Hi really hoping for replies as I’m freaking out
currently about 4 days late but had taken 2 microgynon pills (don’t take them regularly it’s due to me and my partner being on holiday and didn’t want a period) I kept feeling period like pains the bloating super bloating!!, back aches lower abdominal pain and just urghhh my reason for taking the 2 microgynon as I thought period was coming but my main symptom is huge warm swollen tingling boobs and the most sensitive nipples known to man!! No sickness or anything feel quite hungry at times (not usually me) so my partner suggested we get a test while we are on holiday anyway 🤦🏾‍♀️ after what feels like a MILLION tests later they are all positive!!!! However this is where it gets tricky I had taken 2 of my anti sickness pills due to a buggy ride (was awful bumpy and hadn’t done a test at the time) my anti sickness tablets are called Prochlorperazine 5mg and I took 2 that day which was Thursday that same day is when I done my test and was positive faint lines but positive so like anyone I ran out bought 10 more and out of all I only had 2 negatives I read online my medication can cause false positives now I’m soooooo in limbo as to wether it can be the medication I took (now Sunday) (stopped all medications since first positive )4 days ago could still be making false positives 😔 what are the chances does anyone know please please help all positives came up rather quickly and like mentioned the 2 I had negative were the covid like type with pipette

also I cannot get clear blue or digital out here!!! They are both different brands as you can see and test seems to be darker in the evening than first thing on a morning

I don't think they are all
Likely to be wrong. Especially as you've had symptoms.

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 07:52

I am really hoping they aren't. All wrong I feel like a crazy woman buying this many tests 😩

I would assume positive rather than negative. It doesn’t take much hCG at all to test positive. They are extremely sensitive these days.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 29/01/2023 07:54

Your med is an antihistamine. It won't give you a false positive preg test.

Catnary · 29/01/2023 07:56

Do you want a baby OP?

Bells3032 · 29/01/2023 07:57

Unless your medications contain hcg it won't create false positive. Which is basically only trigger shots for ivf.

Those tests are all clearly positive. You are far more likely to get a false negative than a false positive.
.
Hope that's the answer you wanted.

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 08:00

Hi sorry not sure if I can reply to you all individually new here lol yes me and my partner really excited just apprehensive incase these are false negatives as it does say online that my anti sickness medication can be used to treat anxiety and schizophrenia which can lead to a false positive

Are the lines darker today than they were on Thurs. If its the meds it would be lighter today

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 08:06

I am going to test again today as it's 10am so another venture to the pharmacy one last time I think (poor pharmacist think we've sold him out of tests) 🤦🏾‍♀️ and try and see again today did any of you find also that testing afternoon - evening was darker as my first morning ones aren't super bright like the internet leads you to believe

Good luck. It seems more likely than not that you are pregnant. It is what it is though- even if you had ten clear keys yelling “Pregnant!” at you, that doesn’t mean that it is a viable pregnancy- you’re not going to get any certainty till you have a 12 week scan…maybe better just to try to enjoy your trip.

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 11:02

Sorry your response seems a bit cold "it is what it is" is a slight bit insensitive to someone who is very worried and just came on here for some friendly kind advise!

And also as anyone in my position would love to enjoy there trip if only we could switch off our minds and a baby not be a huge life changing experience one I would be over the moon about

100% positive...
i took Prochlorperazine for weeks for severe morning sicknes doesnt give false readings and its safe for baby so wuldnt worry for that.
But id buy folic acid asap and maybe test in another week then ring doctors.

Sorry, my reply was supposed to be encouraging. If you would be happy to be pregnant then what is there to be worried about?

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 12:40

I am worried that the tests could be wrong that's what my post was about in soooo worried to get excited if the test result has been altered/interfered with by the medication I had taken 4 days ago the same day I got the positive result I would hate to get excited and have the huge disappointment for me and my partner

@J1290 thank you so so much for your reassurance I am feeling better now I just keep worrying it's not real and will be so so dishearten for me and my partner the medication instruction for the anti sickness doesn't mention a thing about pregnancy or testing it was only on Google so fingers crossed like you say it is all ok thank u so so much I feel at much ease :) still going to retest today x

Stop wasting money on tests. You've done. If it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck....

Very confused as to why the OP won't have any certainty before her 12 week scan...

By the looks of things you're pregnant OP! The likelihood of having a false positive caused by the medication is very slim & especially since you have only taken it twice. If you want to see how things are going I'd take a test tomorrow or the day after to see if it's getting darker. Best of luck & enjoy your trip!

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 14:45

@timetosave thank you so so much for your positive information I feel much much better Bear

Because generally until you have the 12 week scan it’s unwise to assume that a baby will be the result of the pregnancy. You might miscarry before then, or find out at the scan that you have had a MMC, or find the foetus has a medical condition incompatible with life. That’s why most people do not announce until after 12 weeks. My point being that you can still be pregnant and end up disappointed down the line, so even having a conclusive positive test only gets you so far. You have to deal with uncertainty right up until the baby is born, tbh, so it’s a bit pointless to worry about the potential disappointment of a positive test not being a 100% certainty.

timetosave · 29/01/2023 14:55

@Catnary having a positive 12 week scan does not mean you will have a baby at the end of your pregnancy, nor does having a baby in your arms after your healthy pregnancy mean you still won't lose them (I should know!). So it is completely out of your right to tell OP when/if she should be excited!

Sorry to bring that onto your thread @Rainbowglittersparkle , it's just completely up to you when you get excited & don't let others tell you otherwise.

I didn’t tell she not to get excited. I told her that there was no point in worrying about being disappointed if she gets excited and it doesn’t last. That is literally the opposite of telling her not to get excited.

timetosave · 29/01/2023 15:09

@Catnary that's absolutely not what you said, basically said there's no point in getting worried about the test being wrong as you could get to your 12 week scan & there still be something wrong? Which is saying you shouldn't relax & enjoy your pregnancy until you've had the 'certainty' of a positive 12 week scan. Read what you wrote.

Rainbowglittersparkle · 29/01/2023 17:09

@timetosave thank you very much again for your kind words and sorry for any heart ache you may have suffered

@Catnary it sounded to me like you were brushing off my worry when of course it's an extremely worrying time for any woman especially when I am this early I am abroad away from home comforts and family and GOOD sensitive tests and having had test interfering medication in my system all that said I had reason to worry as does any expecting mother I have a healthy 12 year old boy and remember the worry back then people saying it is what is it can seem quite cold

I know exactly what I wrote. I asked her if she was worried that the test was positive when she didn’t want a baby. She said she would be happy to be pregnant. I then asked what she was worried about. She said this:

I am worried that the tests could be wrong that's what my post was about in soooo worried to get excited if the test result has been altered/interfered with by the medication

I would hate to get excited and have the huge disappointment for me and my partner

I said that the tests showed she was indeed likely to be pregnant, and wished her good luck. However I then went in to say that in relation to desalting with what was worrying her - the source of which she had very clearly articulated- there was nothing that any test could do right now because the possibility of disappointment would still be there even if she had a load of conclusive positive tests. So no point worrying about that.

I won’t apologise for trying to use reason and logic to answer the question and offer perspective, but it appears this is clearly a situation where the only only acceptable answer was “Yeah I’m sure that’s a positive hun”.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy OP.
