Useful if she moves to Scotland and obtains a GRC perhaps?

If my parents gave me a traditional male name I would assume that they really really wanted a son and did it out of spite, to sort of punish me for ruining their wish. It would cause me to feel majorly inadequate

It's not cool or edgy to give women male names. It's just stupid and cruel.

And the fact that you never see anyone giving boys traditional female names speaks a lot to the inherent mysoginy of it all. You're saying it's desirable for girls to present as and project a more male image, but never the other way around.

There's a ton of lovely unisex names to pick from. Ryan ain't one of them.

Reanne is a world snooker champion.

I think it's nice and sounds quite effeminate actually.

Can see it being one of those names that becomes unisex like hillary, lesley, toni etc.

@LaLuz7 has it:

I think this is a bit OTT.

There are girls named James, Lee,Riley, Noa, Blake, Elis, Dylan, Alex,Ashley, Toni, Terri etc

How can you assume what they will feel like?

It's their name they will just be used to it

I don’t have to assume what they will feel like as I am one of them.

It’s annoying to have a name that many people assume you’re male. Having letters addressed Dear Mr X.

Your random selection includes actual boy’s names such as James, non-gendered names such as Ashley or Riley that were originally surnames, and diminutives of women’s names such as Alexandra, Antonia.

It’s one thing to have a non-gendered name or diminutive, but a typical classical male name like James or Ryan - everyone will assume you’re male and you’ll have to correct them daily.

Saddling a child with a name that is difficult to spell, difficult to pronounce, causes gender confusion or any other variant of them always having to explain it is never a good idea, especially when there are so many hundreds of names to choose that cause any of these issues.

This.

It's cruel. I'd wonder why my parents did it to me if they gave me a boys name.

I know a man with a girls name and he is constantly making an effort to explain his name every time he meets someone new. He's in his 50s. It's sad when this is done to someone.

@Mirabai
Genuinely interested in your opinions on the below names for girls

Elis
Noa
Tyler
Taylor
Robyn
Sydney

Thanks is advance.

Mirabai · 31/01/2023 00:23

What do you want to know - whether I like them?

PMAmostofthetime · 31/01/2023 22:09

@Mirabai yes for a girl.

I have spoken to a few people with names that could be a male name and they have said it's not bothered them. If my baby is a girl I was considering a unisex name that is predominantly male so I would like your option on the names to help me make a decision x
