Absolute no

Sales88 · 25/01/2023 20:29

Thank you all. I agree, it’s a boys name. I do think it’s a nice sounding name though. I think there are some female Ryan’s (mainly in the US) which is where the idea originally came from.
Such a difficult choice but ultimately will be grateful for a healthy child.

There was a female Ryan in my Primary School, everyone expected a boy and was surprised she was a girl, but after the initial surprise she was just 'Ryan'. If you don't mind people being surprised at the name initially then go for it.

SunSandAndLotsOfGin · 25/01/2023 20:31

No. I have a boys name and although I've grown to love it - I hated it throughout my childhood. I was teased about it all the time. Even now, even though I love it - it always causes confusion because people assume I'm a guy.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 25/01/2023 20:32

I like it!

The problem with that is its not the OP who will have to live with people being suprised at the name initially- its the little girl who has to deal with that forever

It's too boy gendered. Why sign them up for a lifetime of explaining and confusion?

This.
Why don’t you just go the whole hog and call her Bernard?

itsme432 · 25/01/2023 20:35

A family friends daughter is called Ryan.

I will admit, I thought she had a boy before I met her girl!

But it really suits her! And I don't think of it being a boys name now when I see her etc

drumroll · 25/01/2023 20:35

I really like it ! I know a girl called Rhian but is pronounced "Ryan". I thought it was Ree-ann but was corrected.

2chocolateoranges · 25/01/2023 20:37

I wouldn’t name my daughter Ryan.

though we have heard of a Ryann.

LadyRoughDiamond · 25/01/2023 20:59

As in Giggs?

No

ofwarren · 25/01/2023 21:03

Absolutely not

staciea31 · 25/01/2023 21:03

I actually love it for a girl hate it for a boy

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 25/01/2023 21:05

It sounds like you wanted a boy and are disappointed

Ryanne? At least it’s feminine

Busybusybusydoingnothing · 25/01/2023 21:06

How about Reine - not too different sounding. I personally love it.
Meaning Queen; Counsel
Reine is a gender-neutral name that derives from reine, the French word for queen, and ultimately from the Latin word regina of the same meaning.

Oddbutnotodd · 25/01/2023 21:07

Just no

Incacat2 · 25/01/2023 21:07

I think you could get away with Ryanne in this country. But really it's made up. Riley? Ryley? I'm thinking of Riley from the Next Step.

Mirabai · 25/01/2023 21:07

Rhiannon?

LaLuz7 · 25/01/2023 21:07

Only if you hate your baby girl and want to punish her before she's even born.

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 25/01/2023 21:08

Rayne.

Branleuse · 25/01/2023 21:08

Its a masculine name, so not sure the point of giving it to a girl. Its bad enough for a boy

NewNameFor2023 · 25/01/2023 21:10

I like it, even considered it myself but had boys and did’t like for them.

If I had a girl I would have called her Michael :)

sjxoxo · 25/01/2023 21:10

It’s a no from me.. it would make it seem like you wanted a boy imo x

Rainbowqueeen · 25/01/2023 21:11

No

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/01/2023 21:11

No.

It’s not a nice name anyway. Worse for a girl.
