@sally16 I decided not to, I actually surprised myself and was really brave and stood up for myself a lot! She did ask if I plan to be back before mat leave and I said ‘I don’t know, I hope so’ as I didn’t want to say no but the answer is a definite no 🙈 I now have to go in for a meeting once every 4 weeks though which seems a lot given I’m only part time so I might take someone to the next one and question if there’s a need for me to go in every month as well as a weekly phone call (on days I don’t even work)

sally16 · 31/01/2023 17:40

@BCxx if he questioning why you need to attend any meetings while signed off... surley that's a bit intrusive?

P1pk · 31/01/2023 18:54

@sprollie11 how you feeling now?

@BCxx glad you got through the day! Monthly meetings do sound excessive but think about it in a few days and rest now.

@Narwhal88 congrats on the scan! Test results ok?

Narwhal88 · 31/01/2023 19:46

@P1pk thank you! Yes all came back low risk thankfully.

To my fellow constipation sufferers - I chatted to a midwife pal in desperation earlier today. I've tried everyone's helpful suggestions and they all work for a day or two and then it comes back. Anyway she suggested good old wheetabix- well I don't know if it was a placebo effect but it worked within 15 mins. And it was a nice change for breakfast

BCxx · 31/01/2023 22:57

@overwork every time I read a post on this topic I comment to take weetabix. I had two for breakfast and two before bed the whole way through my last pregnancy and if I didn’t, I could tell! After my section I went mad on the weetabix and things went okay 🙈 I swear by it. A glass of fresh orange with it too

overwork · 31/01/2023 22:59

@BCxx I don't know how I missed your tip - I had a list of things people had mentioned on here to try out. That's me on the Wheetabix for the next few months too then!

BCxx · 31/01/2023 23:00

@sally16 @P1pk thank you both.. I will give it a few days and ask my union’s advice as it doesn’t really give me any breathing space to get better to have to speak to her every week and go in every month just to ‘keep in touch’. 🙄 I spent £500 on the private therapist as I was so desperate and feel like that’s just undoing the work I’m putting in

BCxx · 31/01/2023 23:01

@overwork the chocolate one is my favourite! Avoid the minis though, you end up with a bowl full and it’s veryyy easy to overdo it 😳

ChloeN · 31/01/2023 23:02

@BCxx @overwork i need to try them but the thought of it being mushy makes me feel sick🥲 the midwife told me orange juice but that’s done nothing

overwork · 31/01/2023 23:05

Ah. Maybe have one with with yoghurt? I don't think that would go as mushy. I thought you meant your midwife had suggested to have your Wheetabix with orange juice which sounded foul!

ChloeN · 31/01/2023 23:07

@overwork orange juice on the side luckily 🤣 I did think about trying bran flakes instead if not?! Don’t know if that counts 😂😂

overwork · 31/01/2023 23:22

@ChloeN I'm sure they're just as good. You've also reminded me that my gran used to eat wheetabix like toast with butter and jam. Never appealed to me but definitely not mushy!

jjeanii · 01/02/2023 01:43

I'm going to get some weetabix today and try a bowl in the morning and at night for my snack and I'll get back to you in a few days or maybe a week to tell if it's made any difference. I'm really struggling with constipation it's really uncomfortable and my main symptom apart from breathlessness when I do too much.

sprollie11 · 01/02/2023 04:30

@P1pk so much better thank you! I managed to eat some crumpets and cereal and snoozed loads. Going to gauge how I feel in the morning about whether I go in. I wonder if i picked up a tummy bug rather than morning sickness x

Amme18 · 01/02/2023 08:28

I think I need to get on the weetabix! I’ve not put any weight on but feel SO uncomfortable and bloated. Orange juice does seem to be helping but it’s not quite enough. And I'm living on carbs so could probably do with the weetabix 🤣

sally16 · 01/02/2023 09:43

Scan today at 1:30! So nervous!! I've no idea why 😂 I've already seen baby a few times but this time it feels official 😂

ChloeN · 01/02/2023 09:56

@sally16 good luck☺️ I’m sure everything will be perfect xx

P1pk · 01/02/2023 11:45

@sally16 good luck! I've seen baby a few times but I find I get nervous before every appt and I will defo be nervous before my official scan on Monday! Just glad it's at 9.20am so I'm not nervous all day!

For anyone who may be celiac like me we can't have weetabix, but an alternative is nutri-brex which is available at sainsburys, asda and on ocado!

@sprollie11 how you feeling now? I've had days where I've just felt like crap and didn't want to get out of bed! I just tell myself it's my body way of telling me to rest, don't worry about it

DesertSnow · 01/02/2023 14:06

Yes on the constipation front. I have bran flakes most days, and I've also heard about adding in blueberries and chia seeds so have been giving that a go as well, but no success.

Let us know how you get on @sally16!

DesertSnow · 01/02/2023 14:09

Does anyone else feel pressure from their families/friends about the baby's gender? I've had several members from both mine and DH's family tell me 'I want it to be a boy' or 'I want it to be a girl'. They probably don't mean it to be, but it's pretty annoying and when it inevitably disappoints some of them, I know I'll feel like I've let people down (which I know is stupid!) It just feels like unnecessary pressure!

Marmaladebear · 01/02/2023 14:22

Good luck today @sally16! 💕

Hope you're feeling better @sprollie11 ♥️ I've called in sick a couple of times this pregnancy - massively regret not doing this with my previous pregnancy (actually impacted my appraisal because I got some bad feedback from days when I pushed on and worked when I should have called in sick because people said things weren't up to my usual standard!)

@DesertSnow that feels unfair for people to put that sort of pressure on you! I sometimes think people just speak just to talk and don't realise the impact it can have. It's one of the reasons we didn't share what we planned to call my son last time round until he was born and named - people are so free with their opinions and almost think of babies as hypothetical until they're born!

sally16 · 01/02/2023 14:58

Thanks everyone it went really well! Got a crap scan photo though 🙄 sonographer said baby had a very round head so I'm going girl 😅

Don't need growth scans so far because IM NOT FAT ENOUGH THIS TIME WOOO 😂🤣

buttercupbee · 01/02/2023 15:04

So interesting to hear about the weetabix/orange juice recommendations. I’ve not suffered with constipation at all so far but I have weetabix and a glass of orange juice for breakfast every morning so maybe that’s why!
