@firsttimelondonmummy those are super cute pics, I had one a month or so ago and the cord and baby’s arms were in the way so the pictures were weird!

Zaalfruit · 22/03/2023 04:56

@firsttimelondonmummy those pics are fantastic !! So clear!!

My last growth scan is next week kinda sad won’t see her till she is born .

@BellaTheDarkOverlord please ignore the toxic behaviours of parents . I ignore my mil she is super toxic . Whilst I was at uni I got super big and unhealthy student lifestyle post uni I worked super hard and lost weight but it became unhealthy - obsessed , scale watching , where I was way to skinny and sickly . Got pregnant and mental health team really helped me with acceptance of my body changing and post partum I just put on a lot of weight. My mil triggered my Ed by constantly saying don’t you look big for someone breastfeeding - luckily my husband was the best and showered me with love and care but words are so toxic and this pregnancy I have tried to ignore her . Pregnancy and eating disorders are real - my toddler doesn’t eat or ever have an appetite and I wonder is it because when I was pregnant I struggled to eat because of the ED.

Anyone else work in the world of finance and feel like the tax season can place you into labour. I am so stressed - I woke up thinking about HMRC 😂😂😂

DrinkingAllTheGin · 22/03/2023 07:04

I have my 2nd GT test this morning. I'm already starving. How am I going to make it to nearly midday before I eat?!
I might head to the hospital a little ahead of my booked time to see if they will get me in early!

Kelvie103 · 22/03/2023 08:04

@firsttimelondonmummy aww those are some gorgeous pictures. So glad he's doing OK, he's such a little cutie! We're hoping to book one on Easter Sunday at 29 weeks as my parents are hopefully visiting then and I think my mum would be so excited to come too. I have to admit I was debating whether to do it as its quite expensive but seeing your pictures has made my mind up!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/03/2023 08:09

@Zaalfruit Thanks for kind words x Sorry you're having similar with MIL. My MIL has been lovely. She respects our boundaries which is great. DM on other hand if it's not her way, it's wrong. She then sulks if she doesn't get her own way. She looked after DD a bit for us as childcare when DD was about 1 and she'd lie about changing her and such. I've learned now and I stand up to her more. I'm in a better place now to not take the bullshit.

I get what you mean about finance! I was in that on my last pregnancy and would have loads going through my head. Now I work in emergency services and wake up panicking I haven't done something or how big my workload is 😅

firsttimelondonmummy · 22/03/2023 08:22

@dresslol thank you! 🥹
Little monkeys sometimes aren’t they!
He’s been great apart from his 20 week NHS anatomy scan which was a living nightmare.
Always the important ones….

Thanks @Zaalfruit 🥰
You could always book a private one 😉

@Kelvie103 thank youuu 😊
Ugh so expensive!
Not sure if it’s just London but ours are £220 a scan 😫

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/03/2023 08:26

@DrinkingAllTheGin Good luck for GT. Hopefully it'll go quick and you can eat! I'm off to consultant shortly.

@firsttimelondonmummy They cost around £80 here but it's West Yorkshire so pretty cheap for private. DH not fussed though. He says she'll look like an alien again 😂

firsttimelondonmummy · 22/03/2023 08:37

@BellaTheDarkOverlord I honestly can’t wait to move back up north for that exact reason.
We’ve moved out of central London now but when we found out I was pregnant we were paying £1700 a month for a mouldy poxy one bed in zone 3 😭
The north is the best for so many reasons but one huge one being affordable living.

OP posts:
Kelvie103 · 22/03/2023 09:06

Wow £220 is alot! OK mines quite cheap then haha. £89 for 30 mins and I'm in Essex. My brother lives in Central London and he always seems to be paying silly money for things compared to here.

firsttimelondonmummy · 22/03/2023 09:43

@Kelvie103 I’m convinced London is just a social experiment at this point 😭😂
You can get some for £80 at places like Window to the womb but my midwife said to go to a proper ultrasound clinic or not to bother as those places do more harm than good (so this is possibly why the price is elevated).
Tbf the private clinic have been better than the NHS.
When the NHS sonographer told me he might have club foot I called my private sonographer and she reassured me he 100% didn’t based on scans a couple of weeks before.
Low and behold NHS foetal medicine confirmed no club foot.
It’s also nice that she takes the time to walk us through all the different organs and gives his blood flow a thorough check over (we get about 30-45 minutes a scan) so all in all I can’t complain.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/03/2023 10:37

Just had consultant and they were happy for me to request csection. They said that at 36 weeks I'll go back for growth scan and they'll sign up the paperwork and give me a date. I mentioned hysterectomy and they said they'll make a note it's my preference during csection. They said my blood count has gone low on bloods so they're putting me on iron tablets starting now to keep count up. They checked her size and heartbeat and all good.

TMI NOW. Got home and was constipated. After a bit of pushing/straining I had brown bleeding and yellow mucus from vagina. It was quite a big blob and can't find much info on this. I feel fine and dd2 is having a fight with my belly currently so she seems fine too in there. Not sure what to think. I've had this before when straining at constipation. Anyone have similar?

DrinkingAllTheGin · 22/03/2023 10:42

I'm no expert @BellaTheDarkOverlord but could it be your mucus plug? They do regrow, but might be worth a call to your midwife?

Sunandstars123 · 22/03/2023 10:52

Hello everyone :) I was wondering if you could advise on where to check the most comprehensive hospital bag list?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/03/2023 11:06

@DrinkingAllTheGin Just called maternity assessment unit. They said it could be mucus plug coming loose due to constipation straining. They've told me to keep an eye on it and look out for abdominal pain, tightenings, fluid loss, fresh red bleeding or further brown bleeding. They said if I get any of those call back and they'll get me in for a scan. They said it doesn't mean labour is imminent but keep an eye on it especially on her movements are the same. I'll just watch it today and see how it goes. They said the new iron tablets aren't going to help my constipation 😬

@Sunandstars123 I've used a mix of different baby sites from google for different lists to make mine up. Packed her bags now but need a couple more bits to add to it.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 22/03/2023 23:07

PSA. Sainsbury hasld 20% off baby clothes and accessories when I went in today.

PurBal · 23/03/2023 06:28

Sorry I’ve been AWOL, I’ve not been well and I wrote this and didn’t post. I’ll post the summer list that worked for us and then some explanation.

Summer clothing list

  • Short sleeve vests x10-15
  • Sleep suits x7-10
  • Hats x1-2 the soft baby hat type
  • Summer hat x1 we found this helpful for covering his neck in the sun
  • Outfits x2-3 I’m a fan of rompers and would would include them here.
  • Socks to go with the aforementioned outfits
  • Cardigan x1-2 we didn’t buy any small size, just 0-3 so they’d last longer but we didn’t really use these, see below on blankets.
  • Blankets/sleeping bag/pram suit: we didn’t use a sleeping bag or pram suit with DS when he was little, only blankets.

So it obvious depends on how often you’re doing laundry, but I’ll assume a couple of times a week. You can manage with fairly few items but it’s mostly about ensuring there’s enough for when they’ve sicked up for the 3rd time that morning. DS was not a sicky baby, and I probably would need more if he had been. Also everyone does things differently so it’s about what works for you: eg DS was in sleep suits / onesies most of the time even during the day, we’d get him “dressed up” when we went out but at home he wore what was convenient.
I suggest extra vests because in the heat DS didn’t always wear much but would pretty much always wear a vest. Also if there are any nappy explosions you don’t always need to change the entire outfit.

I wouldn’t buy too many outfits as these are what people most like to gift; some items never got worn, partly because my taste differs to the gift giver and partly because he was out of “up to one month” by 3 weeks. “Newborn” even quicker. My sister was gifted 30 sleep suits for her first born in 3-6 months, needless to say they didn’t get used.

For going out in the sun I was told to cover everything, so DS often wore sleep suits (without vests if it was very hot) and kept him in the shade too. He still got hot. DS was born in a heatwave and those first 2 weeks really stressed me out in terms of what to dress him in, I was constantly checking his chest. When we left the hospital, despite everything we read, he didn’t wear a hat nor was he covered in a blanket: just vest and sleep suit.

Blankets should be used “feet to foot” so feet of the baby at the foot of the cot/pram then tuck a blanket around them. You can Google it but it’s to do with safe sleep guidelines. We had light receiving blankets (aka large muslins) and thicker cotton blankets (including the cellular kind). The thing I preferred was that we could easily add or remove a layer, we could used them as a swaddle, they were versatile so if they got dirty I wasn’t panicking about laundering it quickly and I could use them as a breastfeeding cover. I even used them as a “playmat” (aka clean space) at peoples houses / the park.

A word on muslins, standard size is 60x60. But I preferred 70x70 (Muslinz brand) and I would recommend. I also had some 100x100 given to me and I bought large 120x120, having a range of sizes sounds silly but I found it really helpful.

PurBal · 23/03/2023 06:35

@firsttimelondonmummy i think you got a good price on your scan, I second making sure it’s performed by a specialist. I think mine, in the SW, was £300 with my first.
@Sunandstars123 I posted my hospital bag list up thread, not sure which page.
@C1umsyGiraffe I know I’m late to the party but sorry to hear about the pram: it definitely should have been your choice. It’s hard to be gracious whilst also thinking “I’d never have chosen this”; my mum did the same but with smaller items. Namely a change bag I’ve only ever used as an overnight bag when visiting her and even then I hate it.

Leaf86 · 23/03/2023 11:36

Thank you for the list @PurBal
Stupid question, but would you buy all the clothes sizes in 0-3 or do you need the same number in newborn too? Struggling to decide how much to buy in newborn size and how much to buy in 0-3 as have no idea how big baby will be. At the scans, he was measuring about a week ahead but bump is now measuring a week behind so who knows.

Sorry to everyone struggling with toxic or overly enthusiastic/controlling mothers / MILs. I sympathise! My own mother is very controlling and is subtly but deliberately trying to squeeze my partner out in her conversations about the baby, which has caused a lot of upset. My MIL means very well and is super excited but is buying a LOT and is also telling us what to do very frequently (down to which laundry detergent to use) and I am struggling a bit between the two of them!!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 23/03/2023 13:08

@Leaf86 I've got a pack of each size in baby's hospital bag. I've gone for 1month/newborn size which I think is below 7lb and a pack of 0-3 which is slightly bigger. I've got bodysuits, sleepsuits, nappies for each weight just in case. I've only got minimum packs of the smaller size though as no point getting loads if she comes out massive. Dd1 was 6lb and fit in the tiny baby size. Nappies I've got a pack size 0 and a pack size 1 in baby's bag. I want to get some footless sleepsuits like rompers in case we have a heatwave again. I've heard they are good for summer. I'll put some of those in the hospital bag too.

I spent this morning in maternity assessment unit as I woke up to more brown bleeding. They said everything looks fine inside, cervix closed still so they don't know where the bleeding has come from. They said however I have blood in urine so they are expecting infection so put me on antibiotics for a week. One thing that came out of this 4.5hr assessment was how DH reacted to waiting in hospital. I know now to add to dh's hospital bag the following - flask of hot tea, his phone charger, snacks for him, tablets for his back pain sitting in chair so long, and a colouring book so he doesn't get bored 😂It was like a trial run!

C1umsyGiraffe · 23/03/2023 13:35

Sorry you've been there this morning @BellaTheDarkOverlord but glad everything's okay! Haha, that's a good way to think of it! DH had appendicitis last year and was a last minute trip to A&E and no bed for 6 hours or so, so he's determined to pack a hospital bag (for me at least) very early just in case! He also doesn't do well with waiting at hospital 😂

C1umsyGiraffe · 23/03/2023 13:37

Just had my 28 week appointment (27 weeks today) as I had to have the anti-D injection, has anyone else had this? Didn't realise how much it would hurt! No other side effects though so happy with that!

She measured bump for the first time and I'm slight bigger than expected apparently so she's referred me for a growth scan. Can't help but think it's because I'm eating absolute rubbish all the time and worried about its affect on baby now! Anyone else in for a growth scan?

positivethoughts1 · 23/03/2023 13:42

@C1umsyGiraffe I'm having my anti D injection on 5th April, apparently it has to be done x amount of time after your 28 week bloods which I'm having on Monday? Ohh no, did it really hurt? Xx

PurBal · 23/03/2023 13:42

@Leaf86 I bought “up to one month” for vests and a handful of sleep suits. Then other items (like the cardigan ) I only bought 0-3. I only took up to one month to the hospital but sizes vary from brand so worth checking weight. DC1 was 8lb13.

C1umsyGiraffe · 23/03/2023 13:43

Mine have an anti-D clinic so they could only do it on a specific day! It did unfortunately, but only while the injection was happening, after that it was absolutely fine! My other arm aches more from the whooping cough vaccine!
