I'm on baby number 2 and re slings, would recommend trying some out at your local sling library (usually run by local mums with lots of slings you can try with dolls if you are expecting, or with baby if you have had yours). Slings can be so different, and what suits one person in terms of comfort may not suit another. I ended up buying one which I'd not heard of before over some of the more well known brands as I just found it far more comfy.

ireneadler101 · 19/03/2023 15:46

I've also found this site where you can rent a carrier to try them out - might be worth considering?

@firsttimelondonmummy I like the houndstooth print best, saw it in Brockwell Park earlier in the year and it looked very cool

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/03/2023 17:09

@dresslol It does look very stylish!
I was thinking it’d go better with his wardrobe too given I’ve gone for a lot of beige.
It’s just so hard to make a final decision 😂

@firsttimelondonmummy so I have a really boring carrier as I got with my last pregnancy however my friend has this one and it’s stunning . The price is high but it’s so nice …

Our friend is giving us her wrap she never used with baby's then getting an ergo baby omni 360 for when they're a little bit older (although can be used from newborn) mainly for using to take the dog for a walk!

Zaalfruit · 19/03/2023 20:00

@C1umsyGiraffe I have the baby omni - me and sils have all used it over it the last three years between 5 babies and it’s amazing and durable and Washable !! You will love it

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/03/2023 20:09

@Zaalfruit that one is actually half the price of the two I narrowed it down too 😩🫠
We LOVED all the beige ones but decided they were a bit impractical incase of baby sick/ rear and explosions 😂

@Zaalfruit that's so good to hear, thanks! Going to buy it soon 😆

Funfamilytimes · 20/03/2023 07:48

Can I just ask a… possibly silly… question??

What do you do with your other child/ren when you go into Labour??? My mum is going to have my daughter but she’s going on holiday and back in my 39th week. Very nervous it’s all going to happen before that! Haah

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 20/03/2023 08:11

@Funfamilytimes We're playing ours by ear. My parents would have her as they live on next street and could get her to school and back. However they are going away for 10 days in my 37-38th week so we're just going to have to see. My PILs would definitely love her but they live 30 minutes away and getting her to school would be a nightmare each day. DD is very particular about going to school and not being late ever, bless her. My parents said they would just take her out of school and pretend she's sick which I massively don't agree on as that'd stress DD out. She has a week off school from 29th May which probably would be more ideal as she could sleepover at PILs then.

I'm discussing ELCS on Wednesday with my consultant so I'm hoping I get a rough date I can plan for. Hospital is 5 minutes from school so worst case DH will go collect DD and take her.

Kladebs · 20/03/2023 08:20

@Funfamilytimes the younger 2 will probably go to their Dad's unless it's a middle of the night rush. He only lives a few doors up and he's self employed, so finds it easier to switch some jobs around.
14 Yr old will stay at home with my eldest who'll be pretty much 20 by then.

Kladebs · 20/03/2023 08:22

The twins treated me to a hospital visit yesterday. Reduced movements from twin B.
Hooked me up to the monitors and picked them both up and seemed to sound good, but they're getting me in for an emergency scan today just to be sure I assume.
Sat waiting for a phone call on when, which I hate. Hoping I get enough notice to get the buses there and not fork out for a taxi 😂

I'm always amazed that you can tell which twin is kicking! My little one moves in so many different places, but I suppose he's got more space to move around! Really hope all goes well with the scan. I hate the waiting too! Got an NHS scan booked for 34 weeks due to anxiety, but could do with one sooner!

Also, how long did it take people to test negative for covid after getting a positive? I'm a week on and still getting very strong positive. I wonder if because I'm pregnant it takes longer to clear.

Kladebs · 20/03/2023 16:34

Hospital eventually rang, nothing left for today, so having scan tomorrow during the wait on my gtt.
She said it was a growth scan and a check over babies so at least I know what they're doing it for now.
I thought I knew which twin was which, but this has proved I don't 😂 midwives yesterday guessed that she's moved up to snuggle her brother, so the left side of my bump should feel empty, which it does.

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/03/2023 17:02

@Kladebs we were in yesterday too for fluid leakage and reduced movement.
Luckily all ok also.
Said they will call me if anything flags on bloods or swabs as they take a couple days.
No scan offered but we have a private one booked in London tomorrow anyway 🤞🏼

Kladebs · 20/03/2023 17:34

@firsttimelondonmummy hope scan goes well. Tbh, I think they're only scanning me because it's twins. I have a routine growth scan booked for next week anyway, so it just puts me a bit more on edge being booked for another x

AstroH · 20/03/2023 19:06

@pippabg I tested positive Wednesday lunchtime and negative Saturday afternoon but in hindsight I think I probably had it from the Sunday, I just thought it was a bad cold. It all feels a bit scary doesn’t it, but I’ve had lots of reassuring stories about women who had covid and then their babies were totally fine.

C1umsyGiraffe · 20/03/2023 19:39

Hope everyone's okay! Hope your scan goes well tomorrow @firsttimelondonmummy

A couple of weeks ago my MIL text with a photo of a second hand pram of eBay (which I have no object to) and asked if we wanted it! Obviously this is incredibly generous and we are so grateful for the offer but I have done hours and hours looking at prams and was so looking forward to trying them out! I said that I'd have a look at reviews etc and get back to her. DH just got off the phone with them and they've brought it anyway!

Am I being completely unreasonable to be annoyed? Feeling like I've been robbed of the experience :( if I say I don't like it I look like a bitch but if I take it anyway feel like I'd resent them for it :( hope that makes sense and I've articulated myself okay!

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/03/2023 20:01

@C1umsyGiraffe you aren’t being unreasonable at all.
Let me tell you she’s lucky it’s not me because it would be going straight back 😂
Pram shopping was so special (me and my mum did it together and her and my dad then let me pick then kindly purchased).
Prams are so specific these days (city vs hybrid, one kid vs multiple, travel packs etc) it’s important to get exactly what you want.
I’d just explain this to your DH and tell him you’d like the experience and to pick the perfect pram for you and baby.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 20/03/2023 20:02

@C1umsyGiraffe A pram to keep at their house when they babysit in a year or so maybe? I'd feel same way. I spent ages looking at changing bags and my dm got a second hand one for me and surprised me with it. I'm not being ungrateful but it's way too small and not practical. She tried to control getting pram too and yesterday trying to stop me having a hysterectomy on my birth plan. She is panicking I'll get fat she says if I have hysterectomy even though I told her it's on my options list to save my life worst case.

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/03/2023 20:02

@Kladebs you too 🥰
Thanks @C1umsyGiraffe for the well wishes also 🥰

OP posts:
Belami · 20/03/2023 20:03

@C1umsyGiraffe that makes complete sense lovely ♥️

I'm sure they were just trying to be helpful, maybe they had a limited time to snap it up or something but I would feel the exact same.

If I were you I'd happily accept it but still try out prams and get another if you can afford/you like something better. They can always keep that one at theirs if they are going to look after baby sometimes. Or that one might be better for newborn and you may want to get something else for when they're a toddler etc. You could still have the whole experience but with a different pram.

Xxx

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/03/2023 20:26

@BellaTheDarkOverlord @C1umsyGiraffe for the exact reasons you’ve both listed I’ve asked all family and friends to donate to a children’s charity rather than buying us any gifts.
Stops any awkward disappointment/ upset if we don’t like them/ don’t want to use them/ put baby in them.
I’ve got the worst poker face and I don’t want to upset anyone.
